Tteokbokki
Gina N.

Man oh man do I have mixed feelings about this place. It does give off authentic vibes; however I couldn't help but feel the food was not fresh and not good. I ordered the Spicy Calamari Kimbap, to which the workers passed me a box that had been sitting out. Whenever I went to pick up a piece with my chopsticks, the pieces would break and crumble apart from how soggy it was. Which to me, speaks to how long it had been sitting out. The kimchi that came with our meal, was so darn SALTY. It tasted like straight fish sauce and the kimchi was not fermented in the slightest. The Tteobokki was also EXTREMELY SALTY, the Spicy Pork Belly Dupap was also EXTREMELY SALTY. I was honestly gobsmacked. I thought to myself, how could the chef not realize how salty the food is? Is no one tasting the food? I stuck to the Calamari Kimpap and Dumplings since they were the only dishes that were not over done on the salt. My partner finished the rest of the food bc he felt bad and didn't want to say anything. after the meal, he and I ended up chugging my water bottle when we got back into our car. Seeing as this place was highly rated, it was definitely a let down. However, there's lots of room for improvement. If the food was less salty, it would automatically be so much better. I hope to see some changes the next time around.

The food came out quickly. The flavors were delicious (5-star)The pork belly was sliced up, so that was bite-size each order that we had of the bibimbap the Bulgogi and the pork belly was on its own separate bowl on a bed of rice. The bibimbap sauce came in a squirt bottle, which made it easy to be able to add more as you desired. The dishes came with a tiny man of kimchi. You could buy more kimchi, but wasn't something that we did. The Entrance this location doesn't face the road so you have to enter in like you're going towards the crawfish restaurant or next to the McDonald's The parking lot can be a little bit tight as it shares it with the other retail stores and the McDonald's behind it and other restaurants/ shops on the other side. The staff was friendly and smiling, although we did have an issue with the kiosk. The owner came out and was able to help us, and unfortunately, we had to go order from the person standing at the main terminal. Really enjoyed the atmosphere as they had K-pop playing in the background and also the overall vibe felt like a Korean convenience store. Would recommend and look forward to going back.

Definitely a must try. Will certainly order again. Ordered via phone for pickup. Customer service via phone was friendly and helpful. Pickup was quick, and food was ready in the timeframe quoted on the phone. The food was delicious. Flavors did not disappoint. Personally I would have like a bit more meat in the Bibimbap, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it was an enjoyable meal. Inside there are a few seated area, and it was clean. Located in a shopping complex, so parking is convenient. Looking forward to trying other options on the menu.

Spicy Pork Belly Kimbap Tteok-Bok-Ki

Walked in service was very friendly chatted a bit with us as we were waiting on our to-go order. The aesthetic was super cute and clean they even have some board games and Korean snacks there, very chill atmosphere. Our food: The Spicy Pork Belly Kimbap was fire. Not as spicy as I expected but very good I gave it a 8.5/10 and a 9 if you eat it with the side of kimchi that comes with it. The Tebbokki was amazing 10/10. Super spicy and the perfect amount of sweetness. We will be coming back :)

Food was exceptional. We got the Vegetable and bulgogi kimbap and well as the bulgogi dupbap. Very clean store and the employees were very quick and nice.

This restaurant is a small little place with an open kitchen concept. There are few tables available for indoor seating, but most of their food is grab-and-go anyways. I got the bulgogi kimbap which was alright--I do wish it was spicy and it only tasted sweet. I also tried the spicy pork belly kimbap which was much better. It had a greater flavor profile and the spice was just right. We also tried the kimchi fried rice, which was good and the rice was almost creamy in texture. The egg was nicely fried and crispy. Our orders came with complimentary kimchi--which I wish was cold. My favorite part of our order was the red bean fish waffle. It was super hot and crispy and the filling was smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. The owners Kim and Jay are so helpful and sweet, will be returning!

Spicy pork belly dupbap ($13) Lots of pork!

Went in on a lunch time on a weekday, a little busy, you can either order from the kiosk right when you walk in on the left or order up front with the cashier! I spent $33 not Including tip Service was super nice and they greet you from behind this glass panels where they cook so you may not see them but everything smells so good! The spicy pork dupbap: absolutely delicious and spicy not overwhelming spicy, I would have added a fried egg! My only complaint which isn't much is that there isn't enough rice, there's a ton of meat and psh I'll never complain about that Kimbap: I ate most of the shrimp and wow made to order absolutely phenomenal. Crispy, flavorful, refreshing, something you can eat and not feel super bloated after but feel full! For $10 amazing lunch in this economy and you're supporting a small business Restroom is one stall for whoever needs it and it's clean! I am really surprised on how amazing this food was I will 100000% come back and support this small business sure it's in a weird spot in spring next to a sports bar but do not miss out. This place is just freaking delicious

I just found out about the new vegetarian / vegan menu options today, and I am absolutely thrilled. Tofu bibimbap is one of my favorite dishes, and this one is DELICIOUS!! The perfect amount of spicy. A++, 10/10. Will absolutely be back for more!!

We had a great turnout for our monthly lunchtime meetup of friends and I think everyone enjoyed…read moretheir food at A Taste of Korea over in Atascocita. It's a small "mom & pop" restaurant with the owners taking orders, cooking everything up, and delivering hot food from the kitchen. Our group of 13 ordered a mix of their menu offerings; I had the pan fried dumplings, which was a healthy portion of 10 and can be a great sharing appetizer. Then I had the Jajangmyeon, which is fermented black beans with pork, vegetables and udon style noodles and my wife had the shrimp tempura lunch box entree which was a great assortment. Our friends got various hearty soups as well as the super heated hot stone bowl to keep us all warm on a cold day. Several of our friends tried different hearty soups, one had the hot stone bowl entree and the food was sizzling in the super hot bowl. As I said, this is a classic "mom & pop" restaurant where the owners greet you and get you a table, then they take orders, cook the food in their kitchen and bring it all out to the table! They were always checking to see if we needed drink refills or anything else to go with our lunch. I am so glad we tried this place and will be back as they have so many interesting things we want to try on future visits! Before leaving, I used the restroom and it was spotless as was the kitchen as I walked by and thanked the owner chef. The restaurant is on 1960 at Timber Forest and has plenty of parking in the well lighted parking lot.

I did notice it wasn't as spicy as I am used to so I asked for more of the hot pepper paste. The paste itself is what wasn't super hot but it was still good. Food was also served quickly so I appreciate that. I also ordered a dish to go. The black bean noodles were slightly less flavorful than what we are used to but they were still good. The main drawback though is they did not give any side dishes for the to go item which is interesting. You don't pay less for it and I'm not sure why it wasn't included. I've never had Korean takeout where they did not include any side dishes on a to go order. All in all, the first visit was more a 3.5 but out of good faith, we will call it a 4 star. They did seem to cater to many regulars so it's possible the dishes are toned down for locals? Not sure though. Again, food was good but as someone who is part Korean, the dishes were not as flavorful as I am used to. I would likely eat here again but not sure this would really satisfy the craving for Korean dishes specifically.

Service was excellent and there were not many customers at the time. I remember we had plenty of meat to eat and they came out pretty fast. The buffet line was filled with freshly made dishes. The Pringle flavor is not overly sweet and has a balanced cheese flavor which is very addicting!! The Yangyeom flavor was the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, and had a nice garlic kick to it. I would recommend asking for the sauce on the side if you're taking it home!! I still enjoyed the wings 100%, but they were a bit soggy. That is 100% on us as we didn't account for the extended period of time to get home due to traffic. Every piece of chicken was super juicy and cooked thoroughly!!! Now the heavy hitter on the menu was the bulgogi fries. The fries were super crispy despite being smothered in bulgogi, kimchi, and sauces. These are possibly the BEST loaded fries I've ever had. The kimchi on these fries was one of the best I've had. It wasn't overly salted, had a perfect crunch, and had a nice spicy kick to it. Overall the bulgogi, kimchi, crispy fries, and the sauces are the perfect combination for that Korean American fusion dish!!! The restaurant itself is pretty small, but they do have a seating area!! When we ordered it was only Mr. Park in the kitchen so please be mindful of that. You'll have to wait a few minutes as each order is made fresh to order and it takes time to cook these items. If you don't want to wait I recommend calling ahead and ordering so that the food will be ready when you arrive. The parking area is also a bit limited so be mindful of that as well!!! Overall I'm so happy there is a great Korean fried chicken spot here in magnolia and I don't have to drive out to Houston or Katy!!!!

The service was top notch Kevin our waiter was perfect, he explained exactly what us first timers needed to know (we opted for the BBQ vs Hot Pot) and gave excellent amount of service without interrupting too often, but without ignoring. And now my favorite part the food.... We ordered the following for our meat selections: Prime Beef Brisket, Spicy Beef Bulgogi, Garlic Chicken, Pork Belly, Cumin Lamb and Garlic Shrimp. For veggies: Shiitake mushrooms, Mung Bean Sprouts, Onions, Bamboo Shoots, Eggplant, Zucchini and we topped it off with a pineapple drink. My friend said the veal and the pork belly were both delicious, I don't eat either so my review is based on everything else. OMG the flavors were so packed into the meats they needed nothing else. The spicy beef bulgogi was by far my absolute favorite (I polished off two full servings myself) the spice profile was so perfect that it enhanced the beef without masking the natural flavor and the use a good quality beef as well so any toughness is due to your own over cooking which still didn't happen. The shrimp and chicken came in tied for second place for flavor bomb, I'm pretty sure they marinate this stuff for days for it to taste so full of flavor! There is also a fully stocked "Sauce Bar" with so many different kinds of sauces and additions. The inside is very large, but not loud and they have a full bar for those who wish to sit there. It is eclectic, decorated in an Asian pop culture theme with [sometimes promiscuous lol] music videos playing on a big projector screen. And, it is honestly loud (booths are in rather close proximity to one another and there's constant clatter & commotion from the table action). We had a few issues - the grill didn't stay hot (either malfunctioning or low on fuel), there weren't any hot buffet options (like other locations offer), and a few menu items were unavailable (ran out) - but we enjoyed our meal, nonetheless. Even with a few missing offerings, there is plenty of variety - meats, seafood, vegetables, soups, noodles & rice. The sauce bar has many condiments & dips; you can play mad scientist with your seasonings/marinade. And, there was a cold buffet that offered kimchi and a few fruits. They also had a long list of beverages that included boozy cocktails and exotic smoothies or teas. Kevin was an outstanding server - extremely attentive & superbly patient (bless his heart for accommodating our rowdy and very needy group of newbies lol). He was assisted by a hard working team of table runners and busters who kept us stockpiled and refilled. The crew made sure things were never amiss. Some tips for first-timers: -The AYCE pricing is applied to the whole table, so you have to make a group decision if you want to do bbq or hotpot or both ($5 add on). -Holidays and weekends are priced for Dinner all day. -They don't take reservations, so there may be a wait (especially if you have a large group). -It is booth seating throughout, with a max of 6 people per booth. -You have a 2 hour time limit (which seems like a lot, but you do have to wait for meat to cook on the grill). And their other menu items are fire as well! We went on a Sunday late evening. We had a 9 pm airport pickup at IAH so it was a perfect opportunity to grab a spectacular dinner and make the 30+ minute drive out to IAH totally worth it. Parking lot wasn't too full so that wasn't an issue. While the neighborhood ain't River Oaks luxury, it ain't too scary either. We kept it simple - ordered a whole duck and Bamboo House Special Noodle with Beef. This place ain't cheap but the food is worth every penny. It was very busy that evening so it's not a well-kept secret but also proves that eventually, Houstonians will figure out where the good food is. The duck was near perfect. They serve the duck with the pancakes (as opposed to the buns like at Arco) which is my preference. The soup that comes with it was also extremely flavorful. And the house special noodles with beef - oh my. I swear it's just one really long noodle so you may be frustrated trying to divvy up the family style bowl, but the labor is worth it. So good... The waitress was super friendly and upbeat and the restaurant is older but well maintained. You can see where the food is being prepared/cooked and you can see ducks being cooked/warmed behind a glass window. The duck was absolutely spectacular with the perfect seasoned and tender meat accompanied by well rendered crispy skin. I love how the pancakes are paper thin and pair well with the scrumptious duck and other toppings. They also provide sugar and plum sauce as additional toppings which I thought was interesting but not my cup of tea. The duck soup was extremely flavorful and full bodied and went well with the duck. The noodles were also amazing with likely hand pulled noodles served with an abundance of tender beef and vegetables with a little Sichuan kick. I was intrigued by a strawberry chicken dish that I saw on the menu and I plan to try it the time. My diagnosis: hands down the best Peking duck in the greater Houston area!
