I like burgers -- I like them traditional style, smashed, and with various accoutrements. The State has all of that covered. The restaurant is in a cool historic building and they've preserved some of that history while adding updates to give the place a nice and trendy feel. The staff were friendly and super helpful. You order on a piece of paper by selecting the patty type and size, the bun type and a boat load of sauces, toppings and other fixins. Reminds me of the old school way of ordering an MTO at Sheetz (for anyone that gets that reference). Beyond the burger we tried a milk shake, the fresh cut fries and onion rings. This week the chef had a woodfired pizza oven. Keep in mind, cider is the focus here. So, my husband's old fashioned was made with cider. Hearing this, I asked for my cider on the side rather than in my cosmo. We learned that the owner's background is movie set design and that she worked on movies like Harry Potter, so the decor was a combination of old industrial plant and haunted house. The bar had "potions" with smoke oozing out. There were also skeletons and skulls throughout the restaurant along with spooky photos that changed from normal to scary. She even allowed us to explore the different back rooms one of which she called the "swamp room." The pizza was good, and we enjoyed listening to the live music which wasn't overwhelmingly loud. For our main courses, I ordered the Southwest chicken salad with balsamic vinaigrette instead of their Sriracha ranch and my wife ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza. Again, our meals came out relatively quickly and my Southwest chicken salad was extremely well presented! All of the flavors came together and complemented each other in my salad!
