A great venue to watch a PSU Football game! I was attending a conference at the Penn Stater and visited Legends a couple times during my stay. The Penn State decor with the Alma Matter written on the walls around the room was cool! Legends has an extensive beer selection including multiple draughts and many bottled varieties. This is one of my favorite places to get dinner when I am in State College. I almost hesitate to share because one of the things I love is that it's not busy and it is so perfectly charmingly pennstate. Penn stater conference center you'll find them on the lowest level. All the food is good but the Pittsburgh steak salad is truly a legend! It is served with a white balsamic and chimichurri sauce. I've had it a bunch of times and it's always great. Well what can I say, this place turned out to be awesome. It's inside the hotel, but worth going. I got chicken tortilla soup to start and that was good. Then I got the Ruben sandwich with a salad and that sandwich was off the chain! (Ie. very good). Even though not the best I've had, surprised to get that taste in this town, so gets the points! The portion was A good size too and filled me up. Seems like the burger has good reviews and will be back to try it for sure. Had a nice quiet atmosphere during lunch and a small bar. Fresh bun, half pound of yummy medium well burger, nice thick bacon, and delicious grilled onions. Had the appetizer of fried potato skins, stuffed with pulled pork, and bacon. Listen, people are kind here. Wine is the worst I ever had, they don't mention brands but need to move to branded names. It's all bad red/white. So I switched to cosmo/ gin & tonic. Tonic was flat. Worst drinks I've ever had . Food ok, nothing notable. read more

Very hidden gem. We loved the burgers and fries. The fries we like beer battered. Not sure if they were but they sure were tasty. My one disappointment was a special ketchup that was on the menu. They need to get the recipe for it because apparently it was a past employee's recipe and she took it with her. read more

Sadly we walked out. Met at the door by an incredibly rude server who said "it will be a while for me to get to you". There are 10 people tops in the restaurant. We are the only people (2 of us) waiting. We get it. Staffing it tough but rudeness is controllable. We would have waited, waited for slow food and service and tipped at 30% because we have a daughter in restaurants and we get it. But I won't pay for rudeness and a ruined lunch with my husband. The same server tossed two menus on a table without even bothering to tell us that it was for us and told a new arriving person that she could tell us to go there, we said no thanks and left. Legends is located on the ground floor of the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. First, don't come here if you are looking for a QUICK meal. While the servers are nice and helpful, service here is not fast by any standard. Legends has a Tavern/Sports Bar look with heavy emphasis on Penn State decor and decoration. Has full bar and several tables, along with a pool table. Be aware that without an adult of a certain age, anyone under 21 is not allowed in Legends. Menu comprises of Tavern food such as burgers, chicken fingers, sandwiches, and other items along those lines. Several burgers are served on pretzel buns that are tasty. French Fries are served in large portions that are hard to finish. Legends is a little stingy with Ketchup, I wish they would just keep a bottle at the table. Nice place to eat...just not if you are in a hurry. 2017 update: It's been reported that the pool table has been removed. read more

Was there for a small group lunch for a retiring co-worker, 6 of us. Two of us ordered the Penn Stater Burger, medium. What we got was certainly not medium, was a bit past well done. So dry we needed a sip of water between bites. That kind of thing wouldn't surprise me at McDonalds but I don't know how you plate something like that at a place like this. Wasn't crazy busy, wasn't slow, waitress was great, everything else except two cardboard burgers, but you knwo for those two of us that's the main course. read more

We ate dinner here because we were staying in the hotel prior to admitted student day. The food was okay but the noise level was so loud we could barely carry on a conversation. Didn't try the food (though the food at the adjacent Gardens restaurant was pretty good.) Stopped in for a single cocktail. Had a scotch and soda. Allegedly contained Cutty Sark but I couldn't taste any. The soda had a slight golden tinge, so there may have been some in there for color. Price was marginally reasonable at $4.75. I just wanted a single drink (which I'm not entirely sure I actually got), but if you wanted to get a buzz on, it'd take some serious time & money given how watered down the drink was. Surly bartender. Lots of artwork dedicated to a pedophile-enabler I seem to have heard of. Love the hotel, but Legends will be a pass for me next time. Pretty good as hotel bars go. Staff a little slow, and they tend to pour the drinks really generously (my martini had way too much vodka). BUT the spread sampler was an incredible value, very generous and the tomato tempenade quite delish. And they Carry creamery ice cream, so I didn't miss out on this must have Penn State traditions. read more

Although Legends is a little out of the way, the food and drinks are exceptional. The two main bartenders there, Abby and Nik, are very attentive and hilarious to be around. My go to entrees are the Pretzel chicken with honey mustard sauce and Potato crusted Salmon in a champagne sauce. Another reviewer mentioned that no one under the age of 21 was allowed--that's not exactly true. Went there twice. Once for dinner and 2nd time for takeout because I could not eat my dinner. Dinner. Ordered the mushroom ravioli but was told it was too early for entrees. It was 4:30 @ And entrees began at 5. It was alittle confused since they gave me the entree menu. Oh well. I order a grilled chicken Ceasar salad and a soup. Soup was ok just needed a bit of salt and pepper. Got the salad and after 3 or 4 bites I felt really sick to my stomach. I'm not sure it was the chicken or dressing. I think it was the dressing it had an odd taste. I looked at the menu again never one to give up so I figured I would like dessert. A chocolate waffle with ice cream. So when the waitress came back and removed my salad plate she tossed my check at me never asking if my meal was ok. Obviously it wasn't and did I want anything else. I paid and left. I gave her the minimum tip of 15% since I was still hungry around 9pm I went back to get takeout I ordered the smothered nachos. No meat just the basic beans,cheese and guacamole. I ordered from the bar and all went fine. Bartender was friendly enough and food came out ok. Not the best but did solve my hunger problem. I don't think I will return. Zero stars for dinner. 2 to 3 for takeout food. Bartender was actually pretty good and I would score higher. read more

Disappointing. You should get the shuttle and head downtown for dinner or drinks. Service is extremely poor. It took 45 minutes to get a menu. The manager is clueless and should be replaced. Food ended up better than expected. But service left a sour taste in the mouth. There is a clear gender bias in treatment of staff and customers. Sooo after a 3 hour drive to penn state I didn't feel like venturing out so I decided to eat at the Legends pub. The decor lets you know that your are in Nittany Lion country. The staff was very very friendly. I ordered the gluten free crab and corn cakes for 11.50. I wasn't happy with the portions the cakes were the size of silver dollars so to me not a good value. For a hotel bar this place is great. They have a large beer selection both on draft and bottle. The food is good/ up scale bar food. The service at the bar is good cannot comment on table service as i have never sat at a table. I ate here with a co-worker recently and was not really impressed with the menu or the quality of the food. For a school with a world renound culinary, food science, and hospitality program, legends definitely falls short in many areas. If you're staying at the hotel you can eat at legends but I wouldnt really expect to be blown away. The bar area is very nice and probably alright to have a few drinks at after a long day of work/meetings/seminars or on gameday, but I'd venture elsewhere for dinner. When I dined here I had their wings ($9) that were apparently grilled, then fried. This gives them a pretty unique texture that was more chewy than crispy. For my money I'd prefer just traditional fried chickenwings...why mess with something that works? As far as portion is concerned, your ($9) will get you one pound of wings (which apparently is exactly 8). Like much of the fare on the menu, I thought this was pretty pricey. I also had a side of fries which were tasty, but obviously nothing fresh, definately frozen. Overall, we were not impressed with legends. The design/decoration is extremely tacky and the food definitely will not be your most memorable experience in happy valley. Our waitress was extremely attentive and polite, but that's wasn't enough to save it. There are plenty of fine restaraunts downtown and just outside the state college area that are worth visiting over Legends. read more

I stayed at the Penn Stater for a week and frequented legends often. The food was good the service was great. I met a very cool bartender (Abby Joy) who made my stay even better. Great place to hang and great staff. Not a big hangout for the college kids so it is more of an adult crowd. read more
