Delicious food, you have to try the Banoffee Pie. Really nice workers, very prompt. Shout out to Sorcha (sorry if I'm spelling your name wrong girl), very kind and helpful. Quiet, clean, really cute interior.

While driving west we spotted the Red Horse Tavern and decided to give it a try. The menu was limited, but the Caribbean Jerk Salmon caught our eye and we were not disappointed! The salmon was excellent, the bed of sticky rice was wonderful, but the corn salad that was doused on the plate didn't seem to fit in with the other flavors. The service was excellent and the ambiance was fine too. I would have given 5 start but the corn salad, in my humble opinion, detracted from the other flavors.

Inside this tasty establishment is a family friendly dinning area separate from tavern. Food is amazing, fresh and homemade pie to die for! Staff are friendly, accommodating and timely. Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

Food quality is excellent! Good enough to outweigh the loud shabby dining room, and small portions. I basically bought 2 entrees to get full but both were excellent. I would have liked to know the quinoa with broccoli that came with my salmon, was dressed in a spicy oil though. The beet and arugula salad with added shrimp was excellent too.

    Pretzel board- superb!

Went last night for the first time in a while. Just after the dinner crowd left. We were disappointed that they were out of the braised beef, ribs, and that hadn't been mentioned when they handed us the menus. Brisket grilled cheese sandwich was good, and the pretzel board was excellent as was the banaoffee pie. On the downside, the waitress was okay, but not very personable. It was mid-thirties outside but freezing inside the dining room. I like it cool, but I had a sweatshirt on and was almost uncomfortable. It was sad to see that the damaged ceiling tiles that were there are the last time we were there had still not been replaced. I will come back - I really want to try the braised beef ribs - but it would be nice to see them have a bit of climate control, fix the damage ceiling, and raise the level of hospitality to that of the food itself.

We were attending Thon and wanted a nice birthday dinner. I had reservations for 6pm and got seated immediately. I would have loved a table near the fireplace but I didn't know to ask. The red horse tavern looks like a historic old building with an entrance for the tavern and an entrance for the restaurant. We had excellent, attentive service and started with the Korean barbecue ribs. It had a kick to the flavor and was accompanied by a slaw. It was delicious. Our entrees were the salmon and pork chop. Both were so good especially my green beans with shallots. To end this amazing meal was the highlight. Red Horse Tavern is known for their pies and they didn't disappoint. We had a banoffee and peanut butter slice. Both were generously sized and phenomenal. We can't wait to go back during our next trip to Penn State.

Great friendly restaurant. The quality of food was excellent. We had the Harvest bowl and Brisket sandwich, both delicious and made with fresh quality ingredients. Sandwich came with homemade chips which were thick cut and crispy. Seems like a popular place as it began to fill up right after we arrived.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night and we loved this place! They have a great draft list for beer! We split the pretzel bread appetizer, then I had the French dip sandwich and it was INCREDIBLE. My wife had the mushroom ravioli, my sister had the squash tacos, and my mother in law had the harvest bowl. Everyone said their food was great. The server was attentive, nice, and efficient! The environment was relaxed and the restaurant was busy but it was not loud. We finished with the banoffee pie and it was pretty good! We would definitely come back.

Awesome service! The French dip was great and husband had the Reuben and gave it a thumbs up. Worth the stop ! Good happy hour too .

Was visiting State College for a wedding and did not want to go to a chain restaurant for dinner. Searched Yelp and found the Red Horse Tavern. Waitress was very friendly, food was delicious, and came out in a timely manner. After the three hour drive and missing lunch, we were a tad bit hungry. For starters, we shared steak chimichurri tacos, street corn, and fiery chili garlic shrimp. They were all delicious. Next, I had the Harvest Bowl, my daughter had the Pittsburgh Black and Blue salad, and my grandson had the Carribean jerk salmon. Portions were the perfect size, and prices were fair. With the credit card companies charging ridiculous service charges these days, they do list on your receipt, the cash price, and the credit price, which is standard practice. If I happen to take another trip back to State College, we will definitely visit again. It started to get busy after we were seated, so I would suggest reservations, especially if it's a PSU game day.

The food here is amazing!!! If I lived anywhere nearby, this would be my "Cheers" and they would have to chase me off. We did not go to the bar, just the restaurant side. It was super comfortable, and Tara (our server) was the best!!! They had my wine, my strawberry salad with added grilled shrimp was perfect, hubs had the perfectly cooked and sauced pork chop (not overdone...and with an excellent sauce). The matcha pie was to die for (even for the hubs, who doesn't like desserts). The dining area is comfortable, not pretentious. If you are ever in the area, EAT HERE!!! Relax and enjoy!

If you were to tell me this restaurant existed and served this kind of food in the State College…read morearea, I wouldn't believe. I'd have to see and taste myself. But it's true. It does exist and it's even better than how one might imagine based on the menu. We were warmly welcomed and sat right away despite being a little early. We were at a table that was kind of awkwardly blocking a doorway and my friend had to keep moving when people went through. No big deal. Maybe just not the best spot for a table (maybe turn it sideways). Our server was amazing. So friendly and knowledgeable. Drinks - I had a grapefruit spritz mocktail and my friend had a red that he really liked. To start, we had the charcuterie and the tartare. Both excellent. The tartare was so fresh and light with a little pop of spice. I had the trout and my friend had the short rib gnocchi. I was so jealous of his glutinous gnocchi but the trout was excellent. I'm not a bean person but the beans were so flavorful I could not help but to eat them. And then there was dessert. The affogato was perfect. There were a few ice cream flavors to choose from and we selected butterscotch. Highly recommend. The semifreddo. Don't let the garlic scare you. It blends well with the rich chocolate and the bright, juicy pomegranate. Try it! It's like nothing I've ever tasted before. Our server let us know they have brunch which will definitely be happening in the near future. Overall, the most perfect dinner from start to finish.
