    Morrel Risotto Special

It's no secret, my husband and I love to eat. As the wife of a chef, we absolutely hunt for local restaurants, wherever we go, to celebrate local talent and local ingredients. A recommendation from a long time local (thank you Paul) led us to this magnificent gem in Bend. We sat on the patio, or garden oasis, if you will. Surrounded by an edible garden, which happens to be used in many dishes. Hannah was the perfect server with a smile. Great tips on wine and insights to the menu. Scallops? The answer is yes. Some of the best we've ever had. Ever! We ordered the Red Pepper and Poblano soup (a little spicy just like me)... scrapped the bowl clean. My husband got the beet salad... it was unique and the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. Let's talk dinner. The Morrell with Risotto, we know it's seasonal, so grab it while you can! Insanely good. The salmon was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth delicious. I can't eat risotto, so they graciously added some beautiful garden candy, I mean carrots. Lemon Creme Brûlée - no words. Cold creamy, perfectly crackable and swoon worthy. Wine, cocktails, they have it all. If you haven't, you should!!! Thank you for the 6/5 star experience.

This place is so incredibly underrated, we absolutely love it here! I think the salmon is the best in Bend. We've always experienced great and friendly service.

My husband and I were in Bend, Oregon in September for our wedding anniversary. We wanted to dine somewhere special and I found this place on Yelp. I went ahead a made a reservation. They serve French American cuisine. Easy to find and there is a nearby parking garage so parking is a breeze. We walked in and this restaurant is decorated so beautifully. It had a very nice, relaxing vibe. Very dark, but cozy. Had it been a bit warmer, I would have much rather sat outside on their gorgeous patio. We were seated quickly inside and we perused the menu. I decided on the King Prawn and Shiitake Risotto while my husband selected the Jaeger Schnitzel. We both enjoyed a glass of wine with dinner and I also loved my Caesars salad as it tasted so fresh. I really enjoyed my dish. I always love mushrooms in my risotto and the King Prawns were so tasty. Unfortunately, my husband did not enjoy his dish as much and he is a huge fan of German food. Our dessert was tasty and they indicated that all desserts are made in house. Service was good but not outstanding. They seemed to be a bit short staffed. This problem seems to be the norm everywhere now when you dine out.

3.5 STARS, TECHNICALLY, BUT THE HALF ISN'T AN OPTION. We dined here after my daughter and her (then fiancé) eloped. I had higher hopes. There were some things that we ordered that were really good, some that were mediocre, and some that were just meh. We were a party of 8, so there was a wide variety of tastes at the table - and I think for the most part everyone were pleased. I eat out A LOT, and I can safely say that I'm not sure I'd come back. The interior is well done, it's the right amount of dim and not super loud, which was nice. The service was good. I think I just had higher expectations when it came to the food. I ordered the schnitzel, which I ended up giving to my (new) son-in-law, because his wife (my daughter) stole his pasta (Truffle radiatory). She ordered the browned butter lobster risotto (they must have just waved the browned butter over the top of this gummy rice dish - and no way was the tiny bit of lobster fresh), which is what I ended up with (because I'm THAT mom) and - wow. let's just say I could have made this better at home. Others in the party had the filet mignon, the crispy skin chicken and the Mediterranean pasta - the chicken looked anything but crispy. We did not order dessert, because there was wedding cake to be had! The best I can say here is that it wasn't completely terrible.... but it also wasn't completely good. A decent meal at best.

Took my wife for an evening out and thought I would give Jackelope another shot. Was greeted quickly and sat at a nice table. After reviewing the menu we decided on some sea scallops as an appetizer they were cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. The wife had wild mushroom pasta awhile I ordered the steak au poivre (tres major). Wife loved the pasta it was very rich and flavorful. The steak was tender cooked just right at medium rare and delicious. Looking forward to going back when the bone marrow appetizer is available.

Good food. Very small restaurant, did not realize it would be that type of atmosphere. The menu is fairly small as well, minimal options. I got the pasta which was good. A little pricy for what it was. Service wasn't great and good took a long time even though we ate of 5:30.

Located on Lava Street in downtown Bend, around the corner from the Oxford Hotel and across from the DoubleTree. White table cloth dining with New American cuisine of steaks, elk, bison, fresh seafood. The entrance was unique and seemed to take you into an adventure. Inside it was a dark, serene, nicely decorated dining room filled with diners. Dined in with a party of five. Hostess and waitress were nice and accommodating with requests. Ordered: Appetizers to share: * Roasted marrow bone w/Bacon and caramelized onion jam, garlic confit, and toasted crostini - very good! * Baked Brie w/local Honey, dates, apricots, dried cranberries, and toasted almonds & grilled crostini. Who doesn't like Brie! Salad: * Caesar salad - Romaine, parmesan, and garlic croutons, with a Lemon-Anchovy and Egg Dressing, topped w/shaved Parmesan Cheese. It was plain but I liked it. Entrees ordered in the group: * Vegetarian pasta - Brown butter sage pappardelle, with a miso truffle and white wine sauce, sweet peas, asparagus, and Shiitake mushroom topped with toasted walnuts and parmesan breadcrumbs. * Seared duck breast - with a balsamic and black cherry sauce, Arugula, creamy Goat cheese polenta, with a bacon and green bean sauté. * Pan-roasted elk - creamy mascarpone Polenta, crispy Pancetta Brussel sprouts, & sweet garlic. Topped with a Blackberry and Pomegranate Bordelaise sauce. Not my entree but tried a bite and it was really good. * Filet mignon - Pan-seared prime cut Filet Mignon, Topped with French Compound Butter, Malibu Carrots, and Yukon gold garlic & parmesan smash. * NY Bison - Local sourced Bison from Pine Mountain Ranch Bend, Oregon. Soaked in duck fat for four days, grilled and served with garlic cream parmesan potatoes, cipollini onions, sautéed asparagus, with a roasted shallot and thyme sauce. We all liked our entrees and thought all was flavorful and tasty. I can only speak specifically for my bison entree which was tender, flavorful w/nice accompaniments. One star off for a mistake in one of the entrees (they apologized and prepared the desired entree) and though the food was great we didn't realize until the end of dinner that most of our entrees were lukewarm (except the corrected entree). We were all having a good time! I've seen more than one review here about lukewarm entrees. If food can be this good then it would only be better if they can improve on this point. I would definitely return to try the other entrees like Halibut cheek, King salmon, or any of their pastas. And house-made desserts like flourless chocolate cake, apple Tarte Tatin, pots de crème.

So much trouble that my men got hangry... naturally they called mom for assistance. Yelp led me to RBC, so I called to see if they could accommodate a last minute reservation. JoJo answered the phone and we laughed about how motherhood is never-ending (in a good way) and she managed to slot them into an immediate table. By the time they arrived, she had bread on the table and made them feel like VIPs (thank you lady!) Garrett came over as they were perusing the wine list and helped with selection (thank you sir!) & chatted with them for a good while. All three of them said it was the best meal they had on the trip, and my hubby told me this morning that he thinks it was the best restaurant he's ever been to & the most perfectly cooked steak! High praise indeed. They also shared (and loved) the escargot, salad with blue cheese, popovers, squid ink linguini, and the mixed grill. A lovely family-style experience. I was jealous from afar! Hubby has promised to take me back the next time we're in Bend (DMB?) and I am inordinately excited! Thanks again guys, you really turned their night around.

Our server was not personable at all, which was a bit uncomfortable at times. Inside is very chic and it felt like the right setting for an intimate birthday dinner. We started our meal with the hush puppies, and we each ordered a steak and side. I opted for the hangar steak while my partner went with the Kansas City, both of these cuts were new to us. The hangar steak was nice and tender with a meaty flavor. It was delicately topped with finishing salt and each bite was decadent. For our starter and sides, we both raved about the hush puppies and corn ribs - so creative! We'd skip the papas bravas next time - nothing special. I also ordered the cowboy butter but honestly the steak was plenty flavorful on its own. No enhancements needed. Overall, I'm glad that we got a unique steakhouse experience. RBC will nickle and dime you for everything on the table, which is understandable for the quality, but the service is so lackluster and stall. No birthday acknowledgement at the end either.

I'd avoided this place somewhat because the menu looks non-traditional and a bit scary. If you feel that way, get past it. Then below that you have shared starters (pork collar lettuce wraps amazing!) , then salad/soup if you want (the gazpacho was simply amazing and Steve's description made it even better). The bread, oh my god, the bread. Some Spanish or Portguese flat fried round bread with tallow on it -- you don't need the butter, trust me. In fact, perversely, that was the only issue with the meal. We ate too much bread. Next time, I'd eat half a roll each and bring the rest home. The steaks were simply superb, the crust amazing, the cooking temperatures perfect. I used both Steve and ChatGPT to help me pick mine (the Eye of Rib). The hangar, the bavette, and even the filet (not my fav) were all great as well. But I liked my pick the best. No room for dessert, none whatsoever, but they gave us a free madeline which was yummy as well. A++, best restaurant in Bend, can't believe how long it too me to come here. Then she had the entire kitchen staff come out and laugh at us for sharing (ok, she didn't, but that would have been classic). I enjoyed my time in Bend and this place would be on my list for a repeat visit if I'm ever here again. Loved it!

Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

They were simple and well-made and relatively strong. Very cute little location seating wasn't an issue, even though we didn't make reservation reservations ahead of time Just overall a very solid little spot, we got some sliders and some other little sides and everything was put together well and price right. Definitely acquired a place so probably good. We didn't bring the kids.

I had a ball! (Actually, quite a few :)…read more Quite a few years ago, I was on a motorcycle trip coming into Bend, and I saw their sign that said "mountain oysters." I had always wanted to try them, so I stopped in, and I've loved them ever since. They have the texture of chicken gizzards, and have kind of a liver-y taste, but not nearly as strong. It's hard to describe the flavor other than they are very good. I was passing through Bend, so I had to stop in again. This is a very down-to-earth place. Nothing fancy at all. They left the food speak for itself. My server was. Kenzie, and she was very friendly and helpful. They are more than just a steakhouse, they have a very large, varied menu The mountain oysters are normally an appetizer, but I had them as a full meal. I also had a side order of the coleslaw. To drink, I had a fruity lemonade. I don't remember what it was, but I do remember that it was very good, the fruit played well with the lemonade, and it was not too sweet. The mountain oysters were delicious, pounded thin, and not over breaded. They came with two dipping sauces, a Housemade barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño mustard. I loved the barbecue sauce, it was just a little bit sweet, and a little bit tangy. The jalapeño mustard, also very good, reminded me of a Dijon, and you could just taste the jalapeños. They didn't overpower the mustard. The coleslaw was also very good, it was not overdressed, and I'm not sure what the dressing was, but it was savory and just a little bit tangy. I took my dessert with me to go. I had the MarionBerry bread pudding. It was moist, and a little bit sweet, but not too sweet. It was an excellent bread pudding, and of course I forgot to take a photo. They were generous with the berries, and they really played against the bread pudding so well. It came with a caramel sauce which was very good, but I preferred the bread pudding without the caramel sauce, because I felt that the caramel sauce clashed with the berries a bit. For all I got, the price was very reasonable, and they do offer a military/veterans discount. I will be back the next time. I'm in town. Thanks
