The Ivy Dublin is a large, beautifully designed restaurant, and it definitely makes a strong first impression. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite match the setting. The space was so loud that it was genuinely difficult to hear anyone at our own table, which took away from the overall meal. Food-wise, it was a mixed bag. The fish and chips were average, and three of the four portions at our table had a surprising number of bones. Accompanying the fish, the mushy peas didn't have much flavor, though the chips themselves were decent. The blackened cod tasted more like it had been marinated in a soy glaze than actually blackened, but the flavor was still good -- just not much else to the dish. The burger was massive and cooked to a standard medium (for anyone visiting from outside Ireland, that's typical). Service was the biggest miss. It took an extremely long time to get drinks, and even longer for entrées to arrive. Between the noise level, the slow pacing, and the uneven food, I don't think I'd return. read more

This place is trendy and loud, however the food was delicious. The staff will check in your coat while you dine which I loved. If you have to wait for a table you can get a drink at the bar and they'll grab you when your table is ready. Everything we tried was well seasoned. We left with a full belly. I ordered the Social Menu for $65.00 which included a glass of sparkling wine, an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. It was worth it and I ate everything. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. Refined but comforting. Thoughtful but not overcomplicated. You can tell there's real care behind the menu -- classic European influences blended with quality Irish ingredients, executed perfectly. But what truly made this lunch exceptional was Roberto. Roberto, who is Portuguese, made us feel completely at home from the very first interaction. Warm, attentive, natural -- never forced. He read the table perfectly, offered thoughtful recommendations, and elevated the entire experience with his energy and professionalism. We've dined in many places, but this level of service stands out anywhere in the world. And then he went even further. He personally introduced us and walked us over to the new Asian restaurant they've just opened, making sure we were properly welcomed there as well. That kind of pride and hospitality is rare. Because of him, we're going back tonight to experience it. The Ivy delivered incredible food and a beautiful setting. Roberto delivered an experience we won't forget. The Ivy Dawson Street, Dublin's first international brasserie from The Ivy Collection, is a visual masterpiece. Located just south of Trinity College, this establishment is bright and stylish that can only be described as an explosion of color. The rainbow definitely threw up here. Ha! During our visit, we began with the Tuna Sashimi Tacos. The tuna was exceptionally fresh and vibrant--probably the brightest tuna I've ever seen. Each bite was a melt-in-your-mouth bite. For the main course, we chose the Monkfish and Prawn Curry. This dish featured Keralan curry with jasmine rice, shaved coconut, coriander, and sweet potato crisps. Delish. I came here because another restaurant that my friend recommended was way too full and they suggested this one. Thank goodness they did because not only was it a great place to eat (the place was packed) but the service was really good for Dublin as the waitress kept checking in on me. I ordered the fish and chips, which I know, how typical, but they had the best presentation of fish of chips in Dublin that I personally experienced, and everything tasted amazing as well. I agree with other reviewers that the order of strengths of the Ivy are, decor/ surroundings, service and food, in that order. I was there with a group, and we'd placed our orders in advance of our trip. There was definitely some miscommunications around this, and so our group leader had to go through the entire list with the servers to ensure folks got what they ordered. Even with that, people were served erratically -- some folks at a table got their food before others, some tables got served before other tables. The appetizers were good; I had the burrata over tomato salad. Then I ordered steak medium well; it came back medium to medium rare, and I had to ask to have it cooked more, which they took care of. The meat was fine, nothing to rave about. Dessert was mediocre -- we had an apple tart with a scoop of ice cream. Took a bite or two of the tart, but didn't feel it was good enough to finish. I've read reviews from others who raved about the Ivy, but there wasn't enough positives around my meal or what my friends had for me to consider returning. read more

Give this place a miss. We were here at the weekend and it was bad. My wife ordered fish. Our waiter asked if she had any allergies, she said she had a shellfish allergy. The waiter told her she could not have the fish then!!! because they cook the shellfish and the fish in the same oil and there may be cross contamination. We have NEVER heard of this before. Every other restaurant in Ireland is able to serve these safely but not The Ivy!. I got a lamb shepherd's pie. No taste of lamb off it whatsoever. I also got a cocktail and it came with a dirty beermat on top of my glass. This was to keep the smoke in the glass till it was removed at the table. I've been to The Ivy in Dublin three times now( I've only been here 4 days) and I keep coming back for the Apple Tart Fine--I seriously can't get enough of it! The steak was a surprise when it arrived in a smoky glass dome, and the broccoli with lemon, salt, and pepper was simple but really good. One of the biggest standouts, though, was the truffle fries. They were perfectly crispy and topped with truffle cheese--absolutely delicious, even though I'm not usually a french fry person. But, once again, that Apple Tart Fine is the real star. The breakfast tables started to fill up pretty quick after we had gotten there. This is definitely the kind of spot where you should always make a reservation. Anyways, our server was efficient and on top of things - our drinks were always filled and food came out quick. She was a little hard to snag at the end to get our check but like I said they did start to get busy. It was breakfast so I passed on a cocktail and had the shakerato which was the most fantastic vanilla espresso chilled in a martini glass. I could have drank 5 of those, that drink is one of the best coffee non alcohol drinks I've ever tried. But if your craving an AM cocktail the table next to us had bloody Mary's that looked out of this world. The food for breakfast was more a 4/5. I had simple scrambled eggs on toast and a side of sausage. The breakfast sausage had a good kick of spice and were tasty. The scrambled eggs were a little overdone for my taste but presentation was beautiful. I really want to come back for lunch/dinner as that's a good looking menu. The ivy might be a tad overrated in the food department but I'm a sucker for a fancy drink and a beautiful aesthetic. Beautiful for a girls brunch or cool enough for a date night. The service here was pretty good. However, if your dining here you're definitely going for the atmosphere and ambience, not the food. Our waitress was super nice. We had made reservations ahead of time which I definitely recommend if you're going to try this place as it seemed impossible to go to last minute. The service was quick, just the food was very average. It's a little pricier so I wouldn't come back again unless the food was amazing but I will say the entire interior was beautifully decorated. I've been here twice now. Both times, good food and great service. However, I'm afraid that will be my last time going. As someone who has mild lactose intolerance I didn't disclose any allergies because I was distracted. And I ordered a desert not reading it properly. When it arrived with the ice cream on top I asked the waiter very politely if it could be taken off and apologized for not saying something sooner. He said he would see what he could do and I thanked him and said if he couldn't it was no problem. The matre d then comes over to me and begins giving out about how it's my fault that they shouldn't have to bring me a new one because I didn't disclose an allergy (I had already apologized profusely to the waiter) and gets angry with me. As someone who works in hospitality never in a million years would I ever be borderline yelling at a customer. I am severely disappointed with the customer service and I believe that person needs to understand you cannot speak to customers paying hundreds in the demeaning and condescending tone she was speaking in. Once it was our turn in line, I greeted her warmly as we were so very excited to have a beautiful dinner on our last night in Ireland. How sweet! I'll just take my thrown steak, thanks! Honestly, me and my fiancé felt targeted. From beginning to end. Which was it? Homophobia, the fact that we're American or because I am of color (only only in the restaurant)? I'm an incredibly kind soul and very forgiving/dismissive to ignorance. Opulence at every turn. My full Irish was perfect and my companion's pancakes were deemed excellent too. My latte wasn't hot enough but that's a common enough problem. The Ivy restaurant has been the buzz of Dublin for the last while. Since opening I had heard great things about it so was surprised when we were able to get a table the day before. We arrived to a smiley welcome where they took our coats and hung them up for us. This was a great start! We were then sat at the table but then ignored by the waiters and waitresses walking by our table for 10 minutes before we were offered water. The waiters/waitresses attitudes were abysmal and the food wasn't much better. They do a menu where it is two courses for 19.95, this menu has three starter options and four mains options. I got roasted chicken breast with olive oil mashed potato and bourguinon sauce. It was a very plain dinner. The potatoes didn't have much flavour and the chicken was fine. It felt a bit like a microwaved dinner put out on the plate with a bit of greenery thrown on the top for decoration. My friend's dinners they said were just ok. One got cod goujons and the other got the steak. The steak looked like a big portion. I wouldn't be rushing back in a hurry. There are definitely better places around Dawson Street to eat. read more

The Ivy is like the Cheesecake Factory of Europe. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing; your guess is as good as mine. We ate dinner at The Ivy one night in Dublin and found that overall the food was average with a higher than average price. The food was good, delivered very quickly, and our order was correct. Just nothing about the food really stuck out as incredible or above average. Considering all of the great restaurants in Dublin, after dinner at The Ivy I felt like I should have went somewhere else. The interior design of The Ivy is very earthy and natural with lots, and I do mean lots, of plants. The staff were polite and professional, and they offered to hold our coats during dinner; I thought this was a nice gesture. They have a good sales tactic that works quite well, and you don't even mind. It occurs when you check in, your table isn't ready so they offer you to wait at the bar for 10-15 minutes until your table is ready. You go to the bar and order a drink, and then within minutes of your drink being delivered, your table is ready! While waiting for our drinks at the bar, I observed this tactic over and over again. Their desserts are well above average and the delivery was impressive. Not only were the desserts visually impressive (lots of fire at your table to finish the desserts), but they also tasted wonderfully. read more

There's a great atmosphere and buzz around the place and the decor is bright and vibrant. It really is a nice place to be. You ever dream about those fancy dining places, where everything from the décor to the ambiance screams rich and upscale? Where you are able to have a Cinderalla at the ball moment or a Pretty woman transformation moment. I kid you know this place gave me all these vibes and more. As a child the only grandmother I knew was a non-blood related family friend who was Irish yet raised in England. She would tell stories over a cup of nice hot tea and sweet and would promise one day she would take me for a high tea. Years passed, and she passed as well, and we never had the chance to get high tea together, but I knew it was a must if I ever made it out to Ireland. Sure, as luck would have it we were on a walking shopping frenzy and this place was on my to do list to have high tea at. We decided to research and see how far it was from where we already were, and it was about a 10 min cab ride. I made sure that we could get there before tea time ended and we got there in record time. The only thing I did not check was that reservations are required! Just my luck made it all the way out to Ireland and I wouldn't be able to have High Tea here, the thought was too much to bare for me. We were greeted right away by two lovely hosts who were so lovely and helpful. When they heard that we did not have a reservation they told us to wait a moment and that they would see if there was availability. As we patiently waited for the answer I caught a glimpse of the décor. It was so magical and beautiful. It felt like an elegant mansion and everyone was dressed so nicely, and the atmosphere was the perfect mood for a high tea. As the hostess came back they informed us that they had availability and that someone cancelled their reservation! Luck hmm I think I have a high tea angel in heaven looking out. We decided on the high tea with champagne, and come on if you're here you might as well go big or go home am I right? The champagne was delicious an the sandwiches and handpicked desserts were amazing. Everything from the display of the food, champagne and tea it was a moment I will cherish and never forget. Not only were we treated first class as soon as we walked in, but the service was top notch. If you are ever in Ireland, you must stop at the Ivy for brunch. I know it's The Ivy. Really, I do. That's why I was there. I wanted peace and quiet while I worked on one of my client's accounts that is coming to Dublin to perform. But that should not be necessary to explain to get a table to work on my laptop as I have high tea? Should it? Because that's exactly what happened But, when I come in at 11:45, I am not going to be seated at the bar when I specifically asked for a small table so that I can work in peace. Now, the maitre'd,John, at the front door insisted that there was nowhere for me to sit for two hours and I had to let him know that a couple of hours in English is two hours, not more. Is it customary that I tell the person seating me what I will be eating before he agrees to seat me? Because in New York, that is not necessary. He then insisted that I had to order food too, or else he could not sit me. All I wanted was drinks since I had just eaten. But I agreed to buy soup and a drink and then order in an hour because I had JUST EATEN before I came there. The Ivy was empty when I walked in, aside for three tables. When he insisted that he could not seat me, I asked to speak to the manager, who came over and sat me down, and under duress made me agree to leave in two hours. Now, here it is, not even an hour later, and he is over here trying to hand me the bill? Is it possibly because I am the only black person in this establishment and they are not used to seeing anyone with money in here that is not white? Because what does it look like when I am flanked on both sides of me by white people that have barely ordered anything either, and I am not even given the option to order anything now? Another waiter asked me if I wanted anything, pressuring me, so I made the decision to leave THEN. But then Jimmy, the manager, came over and asked me AGAIN, drawing my ire. I don't need to be asked twice in 30 seconds if I want to order. He gave me the bill, I handed my card to him in HIS hand, but when I reached out my hand to get my card in return, he flung it on the table instead of respectfully placing it back in my hand. I went to him at the cash point and told him that what he did was rude, unacceptable, and would never be accepted in New York or any other city for that matter. I will never come here again, and will let everyone I work for know that The Ivy in Dublin is NOT the place to go because the operation is shady, borderline racist, and an affront to how they are everywhere else in the world.
