A modern restaurant and wine bar located in the restaurant district near the Saint Stephen's Greens. They do take walk-ins but I reserved a table. Walked into the restaurant at around 17:30 and found the waitress chatting with kitchen staff. All tables were available and I was quickly seated. Environment: Wall and ceiling decor as well as table set-up were more classic/Georgian, but seats and cushions had modern vibe. Ample lighting. Music is a bit too loud for me. Service: generally friendly and attentive. Both my waitress and the bar man (?) came to ask about my feelings of the restaurant and the dishes. Drink: Old-Fashioned with Teeling single malt. Standard. A bit on the bitter side. Starter: grilled quail, quail egg, mushroom, and sauces. I was going for the scallop when I browsed the online menu, but apparently they added this dish so I tried it. Three pieces of quail meat (two breast, one tiny leg) was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy with a vibrant and nutty flavor. Mushroom and two types of sauces (sweet & savory) lifted the dish by adding that wild, outdoor vibe, bringing that forestry feeling to the mouth Entree: venison loin, venison croquette, mushroom, samphire, celery, and black pudding. Another surprising dish as it replaced the pork belly on the online menu, but a pleasant surprise again. Venison grilled to pink (medium rare), slightly charred on the outside, buttery, tender, with that beefy but less fatty bite. Mushrooms, puree, and sauces again did their job well. Another higlight of the dish is the samphire, adding a refreshing, crunchy, and briney seaside taste, adding more complexity to the dish. Croquette tasted good as well. The black pudding is a bit redundant; I am not sure if it is also made of venison ingredients. But overall, a well-thought-out dish. Dessert: Hazelnut and fig parfait, yogurt ice cream, chocolate mousse. Consistent, not too sweet, contrasting and interesting tastes from all ingredients. Overall: 4-4.5 stars. When it comes to the food alone, the place was perfect for me tonight. A meticulously designed menu,creative dishes, not-so-common ingredients, all the garnishes doing their job right, consistent in quality. However, given this is a fine dining restaurant, I would like to lift the threshold and address a few service issues. First, the online menu could be updated more frequently to reflect latest changes. Second, I hope there is a dedicated receptionist at the front so that the waitress need not worry about greeting and leading customers and sending dishes at the same time (I've seen her busy pacing around all night). Third, the music could be toned down, and new selections of music should be considered; given the overall decor, I'd rather have more classical background music than pop and electronic music. read more

My my. I will choose and type words, but I am at a loss for them. This experience was transformative. Hands down one of the best meals I've ever had in Dublin. In all honesty I had not intended to go to Bang on this evening, but the spot I wanted to go to up the road was closed for holiday. So, I walked up the road and gave Bang a shot. I'm so so glad that I did. I started with some Kelly Gigas oysters and they were so bright and fresh it was incredible. Then scallops with foie gras, asparagus, lime and rice crackers. Super good. Finishing with their stone bass, cheddar dauphin, fennel and buttermilk sauce with mussels Every new bite caused me to pause, place the fork down and live in that moment. Then we both got the parmesan gnocchi and ended with espresso martinis. Our favorite was the gnocchi which had a soft pillowy texture and some sweetness from the pears. We had such a great meal here, I'm still thinking about it a week later back in California. Every dish was so lovely, but what I can't stop thinking about is the brown Guiness bread! I love making my own soda bread and this recipe was so good. Texture was toothy and the crust was a bit crunchy with a hint of sweet to it. Along with the smoked butter. YUMMY! I had the filet and my husband had the gnocchi. Cocktails were absolutely delicious and the wines by the glass were great to pair (when I'm with someone who isn't drinking). Speaking of which, my non-drinking hubby loved his seedlip N/A G&T). Even better, the service was friendly and efficient. Very nice restaurant, multiple stories. We were at the top floor with a nice view. Service is efficiently, friendly and knowledgeable. As were in a party, had a 3 course fixed meal - each course was flavorful and unique. I had the carrot salad ... the baby carrots were roasted wonderfully, bringing out its sweet flavor. Fork tender. The lamb was also fork tender, rich, succulent and so, so, so good. The potatoes were whipped to a creamy perfection (though I tend to like rustic, lumpy mashed potatoes). There was a good amount of butter and cream, which made it sumptuous. There were a handful of wonderful, sweet, plump peas. The dessert was a strawberry and vanilla custard which was delightful - light, creamy, playful presentation. We made the reservation several months ago and I still felt the great level of service like I did when I first came to this restaurant 5 years ago. Was looking for places to eat i Dublin, this restaurant had an great atmosphere and staff. Originally got the Cod (picture) but switched with someone at the table to the Risotto. GET THE COD. The cod had amazing flavor and melted in your mouth. The risotto was ok, it was pretty under seasoned, had to ask for salt and that made it a tiny bit better. The drinks are great as well! read more

I had a deal voucher for Bang on Merrion Row waiting to be used so decided it was the perfect time for some decent food and wine! The deal was €60 and gave 3 courses for 2 people plus a pichet of wine - bargain! Merrion Row is home to quite a few gems, such as the highly acclaimed Etto.... and I had heard all good comments regarding Bang over the years so had high hopes! Being such a lovely day, the front windows were opened out to let some sun and air filter through the modern upstairs dining area. There is also a downstairs area but I didn't even have a peek down there to get an idea of what it's like! We were on a set menu for the deal, with 3 options for each course. Starters of a soup, salmon or chicken dish, mains of fish, chicken or veggie option and desserts of 2 sweets or a cheese - the perfect menu for us but it was however lacking in any red meat if you were so inclined. I never usually go for the soup... mainly because I make it so much at home and try to have something totally different when I'm eating out. But it was the veggie option and really sounded good so we both chose the White Asparagus Soup for our starter.... and let's just say it kicked ass on my home-made veggie soup! It was gorgeously creamy and sprinkled with toasted almonds and a drizzle of olive oil. For mains we went for the Goat's Cued Gnudi and the Free Range Chicken. If, like me, you had never heard of Gnudi before ... it's a type of gnocchi made from cheese and a little bit of flour. They were light, fluffy and creamy and paired well with the chosen veg. The chicken dish went down well and I did try a little of the potato pave - divine! Although not really required, we ordered a portion of triple cooked chips to share... absolutely fabulous, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside! We took a small break before ordering dessert and decided to forgo the cheese and share the two sweet options. I'm all about the chocolate so didn't think I'd be too enamoured with the Blueberry Posset but I was very pleasantly surprised! Not too sweet and the granola gave a nice bit of texture and crunch. But the star of the show was the Dark Chocolate Bar. Layered up and presented like a stick of KitKat, the presentation was fantastic. And the taste didn't disappoint either, nice and rich and again the crisp layer offering some more texture. With the malt ice cream and the hazlenut, it did manage to defeat me (which doesn't often happen!) and I left some on the plate knowing I'd be wishing for it later that evening. It was definitely one of my most favourite desserts! We left impressed with our meal at Bang, it's the perfect spot for a special meal - and by all accounts keep an eye out on the deals for a bargain! read more

We were greated and looked after very well here. The staff were so nice it is like having your friend tell you all the amazing things on the menu. I got the duck which was a bit tough but served with lovely tender carrots and veg. My boyfriend got the chicken and it was a huge portion! You can here other people's beside you conversations. It's not that I want to hear what are they talking about, but they are right beside you! Can you imagine in a place like this a two person table one feet away from a cash register and right on the walkthrough of the restaurant? I couldn't believe they actually asked us to sit there even restaurant was almost empty. Food. We had tasting menu, which means you get more dishes, but in lesser portions. We tried five courses of which two were bellow mediocre and would never have anything like that ordered again anywhere. Soup was fantastic. Desert was mediocre, tasted way way better ones I'm my life. Main course was meh... Meat was slow cooked and was lovely, but my tongue said no to red wine and guinness sauce. So bitter. Service wasn't best as well. We say one thing, and they then say that we said something slightly different. Even table was booked in in advance with specific menu choice we were asked by two different waiters, what are we having. Having searched high and low for a tasting menu on a Sunday in Dublin city, it seemed Bang was the only place open that did one. Am I the only person that goes out on a Sunday evening? Anyways, Holy day issues aside Bang was a welcoming restaurant on a cold November evening. As we had eaten our weight in Peanuts beforehand at the Shelbourne bar across the road we decided to go for the 5 course tasting menu (€69 pp) instead of the 8. That decision soon turned into panic though when the first 3 courses that came out were absolutely tiny. Should we order more bread or go back to the Shelbourne for more peanuts??? Just as we were deciding course no 4, the main course came out ...and phew it was normal sized! As for the food itself, nice is all I can really say about it. Yes nice is such a boring word. Everything was very pretty and looked the part but taste wise it was fine but definitely lacking a wow factor which I guess I have come to expect from tasting menus. The staff were fantastic however and real credit to the restaurant. I would come back just to be served by them again. read more

Bang wins the title of my favourite restaurant in Dublin! I've dined here twice: just before the holidays last December with six of my family members visiting from the states, and last month with one of my friends celebrating the end of the academic year. On both occasions the service was impeccable and the food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The drinks, including the espresso martini, were scrumptious as well! Bang's menu presented quite a variety of choices: the venison, salmon, chicken and risotto were all delicious. I could probably live solely off a diet of the "Cured Clare Island Salmon, Tartar, Black Sesame Puree, Kimchi Cucumber, Local Radish, Frozen Horseradish" and the "Jerusalem Artichoke Risotto with Crispy Hens Egg, Artichoke Crisps, Truffle Oil" dishes. I'd have to add in a side of the truffled honey that's served with the cheese board, of course! On my most recent visit, I redeemed a deal I purchased online for the 5-course tasting menu. When we arrived, my friend and I decided to splurge for the wine pairings for each course as well. As anticipated, the dishes were presented beautifully and the wine pairings carefully matched the flavours of each dish. Our awesome waiter even threw in a creative shot to accompany our desert. Well worth the splurge! There's a special place in my heart, and stomach, for Bang, and I can't wait to go back...soon! read more

I had lunch at Bang on a fairly busy Saturday. The menu really is inventive. The restaurant seems to be having the same Covid related staffing issues that other establishments are experiencing. That said, they could not have been nicer and did a very good job under the circumstances. The food is great, the atmosphere for an outdoor place is also good. Tourists can hop on free WiFi from the BOI branch next door to Bang and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food they turn out. This place won't disappoint. read more

I have to agree with the other reviews when I express my undying love for Bang. It's really really good. I've been here on a date and for my xmas work do, and I really enjoyed it both times. The service is excellent, the décor is lovely, the atmosphere is great and most importantly, the food is top notch. For starters I like the scallops and for mains is a toss up between the steak and the bangers and mash. Surprisingly, the bangers and mash is one of the cheapest dishes on the menu, but in my opinion it's one of the best. The guys who run it are really nice too - very accommodating and I have always found them very friendly. read more

Even the bread given before the starter is fantastic! I went with the duck breast with baby new potatoes, each bite heavenly. The duck wasn't fatty in the slightest which is usually a big issue. My husband and I split the fresh oyster appetizer - the oysters were so fresh and briny, served with a slice of lemon that added even more to the dish. Some of the best oysters we've ever had. We went for the four course tasting menu, and bless them we were the difficult table. For once I wasn't the only person with food allergy restrictions. Overall the food was fine and the menu worked out as quite good value, although the booze was overpriced in a way you might expect. Checking in with your yelp app gives you a free glass of prosecco, which was particularly nice, and I topped that up with a beautiful raspberry bellini, which I think was over 10 euro. The food was good quality but nothing really spectacular. I'm giving them an extra star because when it turned out that the two starter options I liked on the menu had pepper (allergic!) in them and I told them it was fine, I wouldn't have the starter, the chef made a special dish for me. I got the gnocchi which was pan fried for some reason, but rather blackened than fried, 4 -5 pieces max. All extras were charged on top of menu price in a kind of sneaky way, e.g. water for table. We were asked to leave with a bottle of wine still unfinished on table. Price per person 95 euro. Absolute rip off. Left with a very bad taste in my mouth. Will never go here again. Atmosphere was not nice. Staff not nice, vine super snobby but nothing to even get excited about. I know places you can get a 3 course Michelin meal for less money and way nicer ambiance. read more

More than a Clatter, yet less than a Boom. Went on a Friday evening for a pre-theatre dinner. This is 21 Euro for 2 courses between 1730 and 1900. The serving staff were very polite, well attired, attentive, and professional. It was a good start and I was quite impressed. They had sufficient smiles, yet did not hover, and were quick to accommodate. We should expect good service at any price range, so I happily report this element was appropriately satisfied. My starter was a cheese board, consisting of Bellingham Blue, Ardrahan, Mount Callan, crackers, honey truffle, almonds, and grapes. It carried an additional 3 Euro tariff. My main was kettle aged steak, with french fries and a bearnaise sauce that carried an additional 7 Euro tariff. It is very irritating to have an early bird or pre-theatre menu, with a supposed "package" deal, only to have it littered with supplemental costs. I think that is deviously insulting and incredibly tacky. Also, consider this, there were four main choices. Two of the four carried supplemental charges. I think that's ridiculous. My meal above, for instance, was to be 21 Euro. But with the supplemental charges, it was 31. My meal itself was nice. The cheeseboard was massive and the selection was good. I was unable to finish it, for fear of not having room for dinner. I really enjoyed it and could of munched on that all evening. The kettle aged steak was also nice. I had it medium rare and it was sufficiently pink inside. It was easy to cut and melted nice in my mouth. My only complaint was the outside was a bit over-salted, but the inside was perfectly cooked. In sum, not the best steak I have ever had, but definitely not the worst. Oddly enough, with my main, I was expecting steak-like thick-cut chips, but what I received was a small bowl full of thin-cut chips that were deep-fat fried, much like you'd get at a chipper or McDonalds. It was an odd compliment to such a nice steak. I'd of preferred the roasted potato that came with the salmon. My date of the evening ordered arancini as a starter, of which I sampled and was absolutely gorgeous. Her main was salmon and spuds, which was rich and tasty. It may seem overly harsh, but at 67 Euro for two on a quick pre-theatre dinner, my expectations were reasonably high. That said, I'm still giving 3 stars. The service was perfect and food was nice, but not quite worth the price (when you consider the sides and supplemental charges). read more

There are two levels; however, I liked the street level space as it's brighter and a nice layout. As for the eats: try the artichoke risotto with egg - fabulous! An excellent experience here for a recent ladies get together. We availed of the pre-theatre menu, it was delicious and mighty good value. 24.95 EUR for two courses 29.95 EUR for three courses I opted for the salmon starter and the beef main course. Both were fantastic. The portion sizes are not huge, but the food is rich, so it does fill you up. I recommend you take the bread when its offered. And a side or two if you really need filling up. The wine, chosen by my sister, was excellent. She was able to sample one or two before deciding, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff were all excellent, very attentive and polite. Always had a smile on if you passed them on the stairs. Over all it worked out at 35 EUR per person when you included sides and coffees. This of course did not include the wine. We shivered our way through two average courses (SUCH a draft in that building). I had a very tasteless burrata salad, complete with three rocket leaves! For the main I had another average-tasting hake. We hoped to warm up with a coffee afterwards. After 30 minutes with no coffee in sight, we decided to cancel these. She simply apologised. It seemed like a mix of cheese whiz and mayonnaise. The greens were limited and tasteless and some of the tomatoes were not ripe. I had the gnocchi, which was bland. The cheese on it was freshly grated but there was really no taste, seasonings, or spices. There's a green sauce that comes with it that also added no taste. And there was some strange wilted lettuce underneath that also added nothing to the dish. The vanilla custard had some interesting flavors, but you're thrown off by tasteless gelatinous layers with another layer of nuts? All in all, I would not return. read more
