I pushed my husband to take me here during our trip to Ireland because it honestly looked like the place to be given the crowd inside and out. Thankfully, we were able to grab a table for two without a wait. The service was god awful and truly tainted our experience. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant with tables surrounding us. One of the tables next to us hosted a fairly big party of more than 8 people and it was a complete circus. They kept bumping into our table and leaning on chairs in front of our table that gave us a great view of their butts. Honestly, our servers couldn't even access our table from that side because the walkway was always blocked. In tandem to that, the servers were fairly rude and inattentive. They weren't happy to answer any of our questions and honestly didn't make any effort to make our experience positive. On the other hand, the food was tasty. We ordered a Charcuterie Board, a pizza, and a bottle of wine to share between the two of us. The Charcuterie Board was diverse and such a treat to mix and match and try all the different combinations of flavors. The pizza had pear and goat cheese and tasted light and savory. The wine was a sangiovese from Italy and paired nicely with our selection. Overall, tasty food and a pretty ambiance but sketchy service. read more

Wasn't convinced by the service here to begin with but things went worse when a thief came in and stole my fiancé's phone. Didn't finish my wine and we ended up giving the food we had ordered away. I accept a thief coming in cannot be helped by the staff but unfortunately it just completely soured the experience. That was the experience we had to pay for. I would not return. read more

Fantastic wines and delicious food, reasonable prices. My wife and I crave charcuterie boards that are full of cured authentic meats. Three of us shared The deluxe board , Chicken liver pate in the center, various olives , Gherkins and caramelized onions cheese selection we loved everything on this fantastic board . The risotto of the day was the best we had ever had ever . We all agreed 5 stars on food- service- wine - location and price. So we were in Dublin 3 times over the last three years. Lovely wine bar with 100 offerings of wine by the glass! With pubs surrounding us on every block, half block, and corner, well, a wine bar is a welcome sight! And, this one meets my expectations! The ambiance is so nice -- rich and intimate. Love the cozy tables for two and four! But, especially love that this spot is also a very cool spot for girlfriends to gather after office hours, over a lunch break, on the weekend, before and/or after shopping, on the way home, before dinner, after dinner - okay, you get the message. This is a very popular wine bar in the city. There is always someone in there whatever the time of day. But it is especially busy in the evenings and at night time with people sitting out enjoying their wine. The range of wines is fantastic, they also have several menus depending on the time of day. I got a meaty Australia shiraz which weighed my tongue down with it's layers of blackberries and cherries. There was two of us so we divided the Irish cheese platter, it worked out at about 6 euro each, you can get larger platters but we just wanted to nibble. If you want to go out for a drink but don't want to deal with a boozy pub, then come here. In the long run it works out cheaper then downing pints and finishing it off with greasy chips. Yum!! The deluxe meat and cheese platter is divine! So is the bread and dips! So is the wine! And the desserts ... my husband loves the pate .. you get where I am going with this? There is no better way to spend an evening by snacking your way through 2 bottles of amazing french reds. If I could, I'd eat and drink here every weekend! But alas, you'd have to roll me in and out of the place. Service is good, but can be a bit slow sometimes. There's only a few staff, but in fairness, its only a small place. Olesya's is a nice change from the snacky places around Exchequer Street. It's probably one of the best wine bars you'll find this side of the river. It's got really nice platters of antipasti type nibbles to have with your lovely wine. The wine list is extensive and the staff really know their stuff. They're very friendly and happy to help with tips and advice. If you want something more than just a glass of vino and some nibbles, they also have hearty meat and pasta dishes. read more

Went in here yesterday and was hoping for the same experience we had the last time however the service was appalling. If you have a busy place please get more than two staff in the place to serve your customers. To make matters worse they insisted on serving us corked wine....I am sorry if you don't know your wines you need to learn the difference between corked wine and wine that needs to breathe.....decanting corked wine does not make it better. This one is off my list I am afraid. I don't mind paying good money for good wine (like we did in this instance) and have done so for years but serving corked wine is simply not on for what is supposed to be a wine bar. read more

I brought my mum here for a boozy lunch a couple of weeks ago on sunny Saturday afternoon. As always Oleysa is consistent, we had marinated olives and the Fusion Plate to share from the platters menu, gorgeous meat, amazing cheese all served with bread, redcurrants, dried apricots and honey... delicious and plenty to nibble on as we sat in the open window and watched the world go by...... I go here for the wine and not the food generally but the food has never disappointed me any time I've been. I had a glass of the NZ Sauv Blanc which I've had before and it is gorgeous adn refreshing, along with the Albarino I think they're some of my favourites in here... my mum had the Tempranillo and wow, it was well rounded, dark and delicious... but it was a sunny day and nothing would do me apart from cold cold white wine... I'll be back for the Tempranillo when the weather gets colder for a cosy hour or 2 with friends on a dark evening.... an yes from me for Oleysa every time!!! read more

I thought it was about time I sang the praises of one of my favourite chill out spots. Oleysa's Wine bar was an accidental find for S_ which we reserve for special chill out occasions. First let me say it is not a cheap night out. However with 400+ wines to choose from, and food to match the best of the wines, cheap and cheerful is not the objective. The Maitre'D is cheerful and obliging, and after only one visit, recognised us a couple of months later when we made our second visit, even down to remembering what wines we had selected on our previous visit. He knows his wines and obviously is passionate about the grape. For food, we have indulged in the Deluxe Platter which consists of a generous and varied (for 2) mix of cheeses, cured meats, pate, terrine, olives, dips and their freshly baked bread. In particular I would single out the pate for mention, it is one of the best I have ever been fortunate enough to taste. The pesto is excellent (and I am not normally a pesto fan) as are the other dips. The wine selection is daunting, but if you have any favourites you are likely to find them there, and if not, the staff will quickly point you to a suitable replacement. In fact I have discovered what has become one of my new favourite Appellations (Gigondas) on recommendation from the afore-mentioned Maitre'D. On a couple of occasions we have rounded off the evening with a complimentary port (not every time please note) which was also far beyond most ports I have sampled. Like I said at the start, if you're looking for cheap and cheerful then this is not it. However, if you have the cash to spare, and are looking for a relaxing and taste filled evening, they don't come much better than Oleysa's. read more

Walked by this little place upteem times and thought to myself "next time I WILL go in". Well I did and it was worth the wait. Although it was very busy, they were able to squeeze myself and my friend in for a quick platter. How does a server forget to put in an entree order? When the server clearly is not interested in working New Years Eve. Amateur night indeed! We weren't even offered the special NYE menu until we asked for it, strange considering all the reserved tables (including us). It took over 10 minutes to pick out a wine bottle, due to confusion over its location and availability. (For such a vast wine list, you'd think the servers would be more familiar with it.) In that time, we got olives and a cheese plate, and a moment later, my husband received his pasta special. The duck risotto never came - in fact, our server forgot to order it entirely, as he left at 9 pm, excited to be done for the night. We were still waiting for him to tell us what the cheeses were... So I had olives, bread and cheese for NYE. This place is adequate for a quick bite in the local neighborhood, not a destination in itself. read more

What could possibly go wrong while going to a wine bar? If you'd say 'nothing' you would probably be right... One star for the location. I loooove Exchequer street. So many cool places, not too crowded. The place is facing The Ukiyo restaurant, which I adore as well. One star for the place. You can walk through it, big enough to not be stepped on, small enough to not get lost. I sat by the window and watched people walk by. I really enjoy a fresh beverage as a one stop point during my shopping session. One star for the people. Everyone is very friendly and you don't need to wait too much to get your drink. I went to Olesya twice in the space of two weeks. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff very attentive and kind. I ordered a Rioja and was very good, what disappointed me both times were two things: the food and the bill. The first time I had dinner and I ordered the Sea Bass which was quite plain in taste and far from memorable. My friend had the tiger prawns and we had two glasses of wine. We paid 65 euro... Well... not the best value dinner in town for sure. The second time I went there I was invited for an aperitif and we ordered a mixed platter of meats and cheese. I went there with a really open mind, the environment is very nice and I really wanted to give them another chance, but the meats were so dry that we left most of them on the board. I was quite disappointed by the food and the price once more!!! I still gave them 3 stars because is a truly lovely and warm place, the service is very good and the wine also. But to be worth the money they should do better with food! People who like to go around wine bars don't mind to pay a bit more, a good glass of wine give you a priceless pleasure after all, but need to be accompanied with excellent food also to make you fully enjoy that pleasure and not to end in severe frustration... Olesya's is a true haven for those with a taste for fine wine. I sometimes like to pretend that I'm one of those sophisticated socialites who can blindfolded taste whether the sip comes from Italy or France. Sadly, the only thing I have in common with the wine experts is my love for wine, and cheese, and enjoying both in a laid-back atmosphere. That's why I occasionally treat myself to an early-evening glass at Olesya's, which in my view is one of the best wine-bars in the centre. After carefully examining the long wine-list, I usually end up asking the waiter: "What would you recommend?". Up until now, I've never been disappointed by the choice. Really laid back, sophisticated atmosphere. It was a warm day, and the front windows were open, making it very bright and airy. Our group had the deluxe platter: a selection of meats, sausages, cheeses, olives, pesto, and pate. The bread baskets (which are extras), had a mix of breads and crackers. Two days ago, we decided to eat out in some posh place to celebrate the 18 months of our engagement anniversary. The place we ended up in was Olesya's wine bar. I noticed this place many time when walking in the city centre but never took time to explore it. Our choice of wine for the evening was Simonsig Cabernet Sauvignon; it has (as it is often the case with Cabernet Sauvignon) a very strong character, a typical description being "spicy, vanilla, and mocha flavours with a hint of pencil shavings". But it's not the excellent wine that charmed me out of my mind at "Olesya's", after all, it is a wine bar, so they are supposed to have good wines. What amazed me was the food. The starters we had were fresh bread with a selection of dips for Tim, and a bean cassoulet for me. The cassoulet (old French recipe with duck and several types of sausage) was just perfect. Pesto and pate that came with the bread were really tender, with the most unique and definite taste. For the main course we both had risotto, and it was the best risotto I've had in my life. Usually, I eat quite fast. With this risotto, I was eating it as slow as possibly, enjoying every second it spent next to my taste buds. That was one of the moments when you know for sure that great food can bring you as much pleasure as great sex does. By the moment when we were offered a dessert, we were full, so we took a rosemary cheesecake to share. It came with a scoop of really good ice cream. Usually, I am not crazy about cheesecakes, but I should say that this one was really good. Again, probably the best cheesecake I've ever had. For a long while, the Georgian restaurant Nikala was my favourite place to eat out in Dublin. When it closed down this summer, I was really upset. Now, I think I found my new favourite. It's more pricey, so I would not be able to come here as often, but I am sure I'll come there again and again! read more

However, the food How can you make beetroot tasteless?The goats cheese was dry and could have been Philadelphia or stiffly whipped cream. The vegetarian platter was also devoid of taste and I suspect used only the cheapest ingredients. We were left sitting with dishes in front of us for 45 minutes after we'd finished eating and couldn't get the waiter's attention even though the place wasn't full. We won't be back read more

Went here for a couple of glasses of wine to rest after a busy day of sightseeing. The decor was nice with a good layout and sufficient space. Quite an extensive wine list (quite important considering). There were a fair few bottles at average Dublin prices, so that was a pleasant surprise. Ordered some bread and olives, which came about 10mins apart and 5-10mins after our wine! The waiter was grumpy and lazy, spooky what would have otherwise been a nice rest for our feet! Wow, being an adopted Northsider, I was naive enough to think that Olesya's Wine bar was my secret, when I discovered it a few weeks ago on one of my infrequent trips over the Liffey! Had a rendevous with an arty friend of mine, visiting from Florence. As it was a Monday, and early lunchtime, it was not busy, just my friend and I, and two business gents, clearly relishing their lunch. Our cheese platter was delicious and adequate for us, he had a glass of Chianti, what else, (next time I'll check out the year) and I had mineral water, as this arty stuff needs me absolutely sober, I tell you!!! I really enjoyed just reading the wine menu - something else, and next time I shall sample some of it. The staff are polite, attentive and efficient, I would say they have it down to a fine art. Their service, manner and attitude are exceptional. I notice that they have wine tasting evenings, which are very reasonably priced, and I think that they would be worth trying also. We came in early afternoon and groups came in and kept up a quiet conversation, everyone seemed comfortable and satiated.
