I just had a dress altered slightly (the fit was fine, but the cleavage area just had a piece of mesh instead of a full coverage bodice all the way across; my mom and I bought a piece of fabric to match and brought it down to see what could be done with it. She did a beautiful job taking apart that bit of the bodice, adding a layer of the fabric between the two layers of mesh and resewing it, all for a very reasonable price. He's super dry and English is his second language, so I can completely see him pointing to the comforters as a way of answering the question "do you clean comforters?".
