I had always wondered about this place but didn't bring myself to go in until a couple weeks ago. I went in with my kid brother, an indecisive lad who wanted to try five + more flavors until he was sure he had made the right decision...or maybe he just wanted to keep trying all the flavors, they were that good! He tried chocolate, mandarin chocolate, banana, green tea and the 1020 before finally settling for Banana and Green Tea, which he prompted mixed together to create his own flavor (there is really no accounting for taste with a lot of kids). I tried the mandarin orange and horchata and picked the my favorite, Praline Pecan (a solid choice) and the horchata, great flavor which had the immediate effect of having Vampire Weekend play in my head. As everyone else has said the ice cream served here is from Marianne's in Santa Cruz and, while I'm sure I would love to go out there, I'm pretty happy that A Plus is only a couple minutes away on foot. read more

We go here all the time (usually once a week) Everyone that works here are so approachable and pleasant. The ice cream is to die for- i been hooked on their coffee chip ice cream and cant find anything that compares.. ANYWHERE! This place was amazing! GREAT customer service (thanks, Janisse & Donna!) and the ice cream flavors were blow-your-mind fantastic!!! I'm thankful we came at a lull in the traffic so we could try many flavors. If you like ice cream, they've got your flavor! The "1020" is crazy good, pumpkin, cardamom pistachio, banana black cherry, butter pecan, bubble gum, Oreo, lychee, green tea, horchata...soooo many flavors! AND, what is beyond unbelievable, is the price! Just $1.50 for a small cone! A small co e of unbelievably great Marianne's ice cream! Cheaper than in Santa Cruz and you don't have to drive far to get the flavor! Don't let the exterior fool you (they are also a post office and water store); this is the place to come!!! This is the place for the best ice cream. If you want rich, creamy, and fatty frozen treat in Marina, just go to A Plus! I frequently enjoy two kids scoops in a cup; one being 10/20 and another raspberry sherbet. It only costs me three dollars I think. Forget fat free frozen yogurt at Mayo or Pink Berry. I love going here for ice cream! Normally when I'm in Santa Cruz, I go to the actual Marianne's Ice Cream shop. However, since I'm in Monterey for school, this place is a great substitute when I'm craving good ice cream. The workers there are always friendly. They'll let you sample almost anything if you're curious of the new flavors they put out. Hands down, my most favorite has to be their Green Leaf Tea flavor. It doesn't taste like the really sweet artificial green tea flavor, instead it's not too sweet but perfectly lives up to green tea flavor that I expected. The price isn't bad for quality ice cream and their portions are usually very generous! read more

Awesome store that triples as ice cream shop, water store, and mail box rental! Would never think this little store tucked away into a shopping center would have all this. Me and and my girlfriend came in for the Marriane's ice cream and it turned out to be one of the best ice cream we ever had. I was craving some ice cream after spicy D'anna thai food so I turned to yelp and A Plus popped up. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I pulled up to water dispensers and P.O. boxes, but boy was I one happy camper when I walked in and saw that they not only served ice cream, but MARIANNE'S ice cream!! Everything about this place is great. The ice cream and pie is served with a great hometown vibe. They have the nicest staff, everyone welcomes you with smiles. Their services are really good! Whenever I go, they welcome you with a smile and let you try every ice cream you want. Also, the price is not that pricy compare to if you were go to get at Baskin Robins or other super market for several flavors. However, it's the fact that sometimes they close little early which makes me disappointed because I was craving for an ice cream but they were closed several times. Also, they have a place to eat your ice cream even though it's like 4 tables, it's never full. The one thing I don't like about is that their green tea doesn't taste like the one that I like but it's okay because other ice cream tastes better :) read more

Wow! Their ice creams are delicious!! I really didn't need or want ice cream since it was almost 9pm and cold. But the flavor choices excited me! Had lavender and black cherry and they were amazing. Tried green tea as well and it tastes as it should! (Not like store bought!!). Husband and daughter had Oreo cookie (and don't remember other flavors) it had real cookie chunks and couldn't stop saying how good it was. Sometimes you have to look harder to find what's worth it. I believe that almost everyone that isn't lactose intolerant has an affinity for ice cream. This little jewel of a shop has the sort of mom and pop operation you rarely see anymore. Apparently they are part of Marianne's ice cream, a homemade brew from right here in the central coast (Santa Cruz). The store features a fresh water service, is a post office and of course... The ice cream. I just tried their pistachio nut ice cream. For a huge scoop, about $2 I just went into a daydream while consuming this delicious delicacy. Right when I tasted it I knew it was an original flavor because the ice cream actually had a buttery fresh flavor to it. If you're ever in this area, it's hidden in the corner. We are the sample masters and we came into this hidden ice-cream place. As soon as we walked in through the door we were greeted by a nice welcome from the cute girls working behind the register. They were so kind in being okay with us sampling every flavor they had which was a decent variety. We only tried 3 different flavors and the experience was enough to give this place 5 stars. When I heard about this place, I wanted to test and see if it really was that great. And OH it was! Ice cream and hot dogs in one place. My two favorites things! In result: Don't expect too much. I love this place and every time I go I seem to find something new to explore. I started going here as a place to pick up a 5-gallon jug for my newly acquired dispenser. Once I picked one of those up for $15 I now had a place to get the jug cleaned and filled with the very high quality water! While you're waiting on the refill, there's a plethora of ice creams to try. My fave is the 1020 which another reviewer listed as vanilla ice cream with bits of oreo, and some other stuff. A Plus carries a solid 20 or so of Marianne's flavors and are solely responsible for my latest addiction to ice cream! I don't know much about water, but their ice cream is amazing. It's the same stuff you can get at Marianne's in Santa Cruz (which is also amazing). They rotate flavors, with about 15-20 at any given time, and they're really nice about letting you sample. I've never tried a bad flavor. They have a mix: some of the flavors are traditional ones, others are strange and delicious combinations. I usually go for the latter. read more

I only wish I would have found this place sooner! I lived in marina for over a year before a co worker told me about this hole in the wall ice cream shop! And to imagine all the trips I wasted to get mediocre expensive baskin robins ice cream. This place has everything, basic favors, odd flavored, and fruit sorbets. My personal favorite is the Kahlua crunch, with the coffee chocolate chip at a close second. My only downfall is who serves you. 95% of the time its a very nice lady or younger guy. The other 5% it's a lady with an attitude. You can't win them all I guess. Regardless, Kaluah crunch in a waffle cone on a sunny day in marina can't be beat. read more
