I was so excited I traveled 1500 miles and I was going to go to Hobby bench. When we get there my seven-year-old wife needed to go to the bathroom, the woman at the counter told her oh no you couldn't go here then we have to let everybody. So she center down the road. I went over into the RC section, and wanted to go get some parts close up so I asked to step the one step behind the counter to look at the parts. Oh no you can't do that if you start if I let you behind I have to let everybody behind and then the stealing starts. in the day and age of no customer service. This place Has none. If you need to buy hobby supplies I guess the only now is to buy them online since Hobby bench doesn't give a damn about customer service. This store seems to have more of toys & hobbies men/boys go for...more for the hobbyist, rather than the crafter the bigger hobby stores cater to. In spite of that & the smaller scale, everything was well organized, easy to find, better priced than their larger competitors & they had a few art supply aisles in the back, which is what we were looking for. read more

I shop here often (hundreds of purchases/visits) but I only go here when I'm in a pinch or I don't want to wait for an online purchase to arrive. Like some of the reviews have stated, the customer service is hit or miss. If they know/recognize you, you'll be ok. But I think this is pretty much status quo for most brick and mortar hobby shops around here. For the most part, If you know what you're looking for and understand exactly what you need, this is a great store to find what you need (read: know your part numbers). They are a brick and mortar Tower/Horizon Hobbies. They will order anything you want as long as Hobbico/Tower/Horizon carries it. Not having a bathroom is a minus too. I understand that they can do what they like, but most places, even small little Duncan's on Greenway, allow you to use their bathroom. Their prices are not competitive. Duncan's is cheaper on most things, but their selection makes it hard not to go there. You will ALWAYS get a better deal online if you have the time. Their return policy is tough. If the packaging has the smallest of defects after purchasing, they won't let you return it. Even if that's the way you bought it from them (this has happened to me). If I could do 3.5 stars I would, but they are definitely not a 4. Customer service issues and item price are my biggest complaints. Kind of a bad vibe when you walk in....two old ladies that seem to guard the front counter area and refuse bathroom service to my 5 year old girl but they of course will go back and sit THEIR geriatric @ss on the toilet.. We had to go next door to subway even after paying for overpriced toys. The RC airplane guys are great and it has a stellar selection of models to build but again......The train guys are cool too. but.....do not have have the store with stuffed animals, dolls horses and girlee stuff and then refuse to let a 5 year old use your bathroom. TERRIBLE business decision. BTW...thank you to the kind people at subway for allowing my little girl to use the facilities. THEY....are actually in business. We bought sandwiches there to patronize them. Do NOT patronize these people until they can the two counter guards. If you have a family...be sure and ask them if your kid can use the restroom as a matter of quality control and then TEAR IN to those two old bats as a matter of principle. read more

My son bought a remote control car online and immediately broke it. Since it was under warranty, we sent it to the manufacturer for repair. They fixed it, but it took MONTHS. He got it back and immediately broke it again. We sent it back to the manufacturer, and they sat on it for MONTHS. When they did send it back, it was out of warranty. He immediately broke it yet AGAIN. We couldn't send it back to the manufacturer so it sat in his closet for over a year, a sad testament against the 'unbreakable' and 'manufacturer's warranty' claimed when we bought his RC car. Recently, my wife took my son and the broken car down to Hobby Bench. She did have the owner's manual, which made things easier. The guy in the back diagnosed the issue right away. He told my wife which part to purchase. After purchase, the part was installed right on the spot. As in IMMEDIATELY! It's been a week or two since then. My son has been having a real blast with his RC car. I know it's just a matter of time before he breaks it again. But I know that when that happens, we can take it down to Hobby Bench to fix it. No expensive shipping. No waiting MONTHS for the car to ship there and back. My hats off to Hobby Bench for taking care of my wife and son, and fixing the issue so quickly! read more

My son and I went to pick up a few parts for our Traxxes Nitro car and truck. WOW! There personal attention was really great along with helpful knowledge. I ended up buying a new stadium truck as well and I went online in front of them to check their price. To my amazement, it was within literally a few dollars with others. CUSTOMERS BEWARE On, or about, Saturday, March 20, 2017, I ventured into Hobby Bench #5 (NE Corner 43rd Ave and Bell Rd). Being disabled, I was on my motorized scooter (about 3 miles from home). A great selection of products, as everyone describes. I found a product on display that I had not heard of. It was a combination hardware/software device in a conveniently sized box. The product was a quadcopter controller with associated software. This product allowed a user to experience the quadcopter learning experience using the controller and ones personal computer. What a neat idea. All crashes would be forgotten, lol. I asked an employ to get me on of the boxed product from a stack of many. In short order, I had paid $141.05 (VISA). Later, that evening, I settled down to see what I had. The first thing I noticed was that a considerable effort had been made to make it appear that the box had never been opened. After REOPENING the box, a cursory examination of the hardware (did not remove or dislodge same) revealed substantial evidence of human handling. The next morning, Sunday, March 21, 2017, I prepared a printed page describing the above adventure to assist me explaining my problem to HB #5. The print out also indicated my willingness to exchange the product for a fresh one plus a $10 purchase allowance for my trouble. The print out also asked (if the exchange + $10 was not possible.) for a CC Refund. Even though there were at least 5 employees (they gathered as if they wanted to watch a show), the "spokesman" told me no one there was authorized to do either option (exchange or refund). I would have to leave my phone number, and at sometime in the future, when the "West Coast Manager" came to town, the "Manager" would call me and talk turkey. Then I made a big mistake. I left my phone number, the unwanted product, the sales slip, and original bag on the counter, told the group I would deal with them through the BofA, wheeled around and left the store. I went directly to the BofA located nearby. The BofA representative listened to my story and told me to wait 2 weeks or so and if the matter was not resolved to start proceedings through the BofA Fraud Department. I waited more than 30 days without contact or refund from HB #5. I initiated a claim with BofA. My "Claim" has been resolved by BofA. They were UNABLE to secure a refund for my failed purchase. Below is the BofA "reason" for the failed refund. ________________________________________________________________________ "- We're unable to intervene in situations where merchandise was abandoned at the merchant's place of business. Please contact the merchant directly to obtain a credit slip or to work through another possible resolution. Without a valid credit slip, we're unable to assist you further." ______________________________________________________________ Well, it's not worth $140 for me to ever have contact with that place. Their selection of models is fantastic. The internet is a bit less expensive, but sometimes I want to browse in an isle, and I'll gladly pay a bit more for that opportunity. Plus, there's the added bonus that I can go home and start building instead of waiting on shipping. They even have tons of Gundam models that are a blast to build. Staff generally keep to themselves unless asked a question, but everyone I've encountered has been very friendly and helpful. read more

Okay. Been going into the Hobby Bench prior to Christmas with our 3 year old son to look and Thomas trains. Ended up purchasing well over $300 worth of trains for our boy. Prices are way higher than the internet but I like to support local businesses whenever possible. While in the store, I spoke to the RC Helicopter guys and talked my wife into buying a $109 RC helicopter for Christmas. Sure thing, it was under the tree and I loved it. All is well. About the middle of January I told my Wife I was ready to graduate to a new, bigger , helicopter and picked one out at Hobby Bench. She approved and we purchased the next model at around $160 on a Sunday. I had one of the guys (Matt) tune it up for me and set the trim. I took it home and immediately found it would just lose power and drop after 5-10 seconds. Took it back on Tuesday and was told no exchanges or refunds but they would look at it. Another guy messed with it for a full 30 minutes and finally got it to work. Took it home and the same thing occurred. The transmitter will not stay tuned to the helicopter. My Wife took it back again and explained that it was still not working. This time they spent 45 minutes with the unit and said they replaced something in the unit. Guess what, still does not work. Yesterday my Wife took it back again and all hell broke loose. Matt was there and treated my Wife with complete disrespect and right off the bat said it had to be Operator error. He did not even attempt to fly the unit. Things escalated and my Wife made quite a scene. Even before that, she tried to get the owners name and Matt told her that "that is not going to happen". Matt even went as far as to ask my three year old son if "this is how she is going to raise you". Why Matt thought he should or could talk to my son is beyond me. My Wife believes that since she is young and Hispanic, Matt was dismissive of her from the very start of the conversation. What should have happened is that Hobby Bench should have swapped out the defective unit on the first visit and dealt with the manufacturer themselves. I will take things in hand my self and never enter another Hobby Bench and I suggest all to do the same. read more

Came here and dropped a fair amount of money for my budget. I tried to return something which was the least expensive item on my receipt and was successful. They initially did not seem too flustered processing the refund. But on closer inspection, apparently I had moved an adjustable part "out of factory" conditions. The part itself was not damaged and was even returned in the original package with all materials. Another guy who helped me find this specific part a week ago told me I could return them so long as they could be resold. Long story short, I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong or ripped them off in some way. I was well within their return policy, but I just got the distinct feeling they did not want to help me. I probably will go back, but only if I have no alternative which is not likely with online retailers. Again, they processed the return, but not without putting me through the ringer about how it was work to have to reset a part which is made to be adjustable extremely easily! read more

As an amateur pilot (RC of course) this is our go to place. My son and I have a bunch of flying toys that we bought from Hobby Bench. I would say the only issue I have is the staff could be friendlier. They are helpful and answer the questions we have but there is a lack of any positiveness in anyone who works there. Its like they are all given a large dose of Xanax before work. I mean would it kill you to smile? Like I said, they help when asked but they seem almost annoyed to help you...other than that the selection is huge, they have everything you need for hobbies of all sorts. read more

Pretty egregious lack of customer service. I drove out to this location because they said on the phone they had a large gundam collection. I got there 10 minutes to close. My daughter had to use the restroom and they said I needed to take her to the nearest 99 cent store and that they wouldn't let me back in after I left. So I could not purchase the model I had selected and had to take her to pee at the dollar store and go home. This was my first time ever patronizing this store. Nice work read more

Great store to shop at with really nice informative staff. My only issue is they don't stock paints from Mr Color, Humbrol or Aqueous. Very few cross-reference to other US manufacture paints. These are used in a lot of model kits from overseas. I had to go online to Ebay and Amazon to pay double, triple what would have cost for a can of spray paint in a store. read more

The staff at the back counter of this Hobby Bench is very knowledgeable but my dad purchased an RC helicopter recently and immediately had issues with it. When he took it back to see if they knew what the problem was, my dad was told that the warranty is void once it's taken out of the box. Having a warranty seems like a joke this way. My dad was told to send the helicopter into the manufacturer. It's very unfortunate as this wasn't our first pick for a RC shop to buy the helicopter from and gave it a second shot and still aren't impressed. The last time we went there, it was robbed at gunpoint while we were inside with other customers. read more
