Delicious chicken salad. Made fresh with chicken cooked on site. It was served with a bag if Husman's potatoe chips. My husband ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders with French fries. He said it was delicious. He pointed out the fries were served hot, tasted good and he ate them all. A dinner roll was served with the tenders. The house brewed sweet tea was perfect. Pepsi was good too. This is a clean little resturant. It has been around for years and years. Employees are friendly. You order at a counter and pay then go sit in a booth. Soooo. I'm in town visiting family and thought I'd find some fried chicken. Luckily this place was pretty close so I thought I'd give it a go. I got the chicken tenders meal with potato salad. Chocolate pie, a hamburger, and against my ancestors wishes some "chicken gumbo" Just gonna get it out of the way and tell you not to get the chicken gumbo. I don't know what possesses people to insult my creole and cajun people by calling their renditions by sacred names, but no. No. This was at most, chicken with rice. Had more broth then anything else. Not spicy in the slightest. No. Call it by its true name, not what can be "popular" The chicken tenders were alright. Run of the meal regular battered tenders. Nothing special. Bbq sauce that came with it was sweet, so a bit weird? The burger was delicious. The meat juicy, the veggies pretty fresh. This was the highlight of my meal. The pie was eh. Well I am a little disappointed with Hitching Post after going there today (Saturday Dec 19). I got a chicken Brest filet sandwich. Paid $4.75 right! Use to get a true chicken breast but this time I got two tenders. No big deal right? Wrong.... a tender can be purchased for $1.15 so them two would be $2.30. That means my bun, 5 pickles & some lettuce with Mayo cost me $2.45!!! Sounds about right. NOT. There will be a day when I go there & order 3 tenders. While those are cooking I will ask how much a bun will cost me & will buy it. I'll then ask for some pickles & a pack of mayonnaise. I have been craving fried chicken for weeks and after a day of canoeing my husband took me to this local spot. I am so glad he did, the food here is amazing. When we walked in it we were happily greeted and told about the different menu options. I couldn't say enough nice things about the women behind the counter, she was friendly. I ordered the 3 piece chicken it came with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The Chicken was nicely seasoned and crispy. The mashed potatoes and cole slaw weren't bad but nothing too special. When you go here you definitely go for the chicken. I wish they had Mac and cheese or other types of side dishes. Before you leave don't forget to order some pie or a brownie to go. But they will refill your drink at the table. I stopped again for breakfast. Had two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. It's right up there with Village Inn but served on plastic plates. Eggs were cooked as ordered; over medium. Anyone who knows how to cook them over medium is a good cook. Both meals were very good and I recommend it. Great down home food with very down to earth prices. You really can't go wrong with a $5 breakfast with goetta, eggs and toast. I had a brief chat with the daughter of the original founder and she was friendly and informed me about the history of the 'Post. Essentially there used to be a number of Hitching Posts and this one is the original that still uses the fried chicken family recipe. They have a really cool hand dryer in the bathroom that has a funky blue light on it. Cool. The outdoor sign advertised a 100 piece chicken wing order for $100. You order a burger, you get a burger. Does it blow your mind? No. Does it scratch that itch? Totally! Definitely a diner vibe going here, though there is no counter to sit at. I've never been for breakfast, though people seem to dig it. Order at the counter, they'll bring out your food to your table. This place is a no frills, family owned/operated place that has great fried chicken, other solid entrees and sides. There are a lot of choices for sides and desserts. I was stuffed and couldn't finish my 2 piece dinner which came with 2 sides and a roll, and the chicken was atomically hot so I had to start with my sides while the chicken cooled enough to eat! So I got my banana cream pie (yummy!) to go along with some chicken for lunch the next day. The chicken doesn't stay crispy but it was still tasty cold. Finally decided to try Hitching Post after living right down the street for almost a year now and it was delicious! The (Kellogg) location is small, but we went around 2pm on a Sunday and it wasn't overly crowded. You order your food at the counter and they bring it out when it's ready. Our food came out in no time hot, fresh, and exactly as ordered. My husband and I got 2 piece fried chicken baskets with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. The breading on the chicken was SO GOOD. Crispy and full of flavor. The chicken itself was nice and juicy. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was very good as well. The mac n cheese was different in a good way. It also comes with a sweet and soft dinner roll. Just so good. As if we weren't already full and satisfied, we split a piece of chocolate cream pie and oh my-- YUM. I'm picky about chocolate cream pie so I had to try it and will definitely crave it all the time. The service was great too! Super friendly, and even though the workers aren't "waiters" per se, they come and check on you and get you refills while you're eating. There was a lot on the menu I'm looking forward to trying, so we will definitely be back! read more

I was surprised to see that their menu was so big, I had expected them to only have chicken and sides. After reading some of the reviews we decided to get a 4 piece chicken meal (Leg, Breast, Thigh, Wing) and fish and chips. The chicken also came with mashed potatoes, cole slaw and a roll. Value wise you cannot beat the prices. Everything was hot and freshly cooked. The chicken was crispy on the outside and so juicy on the inside! I wasn't a huge fan of the mashed potatoes (maybe it was the chicken gravy) It was a little too buttery/goopey. The fish was really good as well. The meal came with 3 large piece and fries. God I love this place. The chicken is leagues above fast food fried chicken (cough cough KFC), and it's so much more affordable than that place anyway, why does anyone even go there? I will be honest, I don't eat meat anymore, and haven't had the chicken in quite some time, but I will go with my boyfriend and he goes crazy for the stuff. I always get a fish sandwich and it is out of this world. It's one of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had, which always surprises me. They also have great homemade desserts. Whenever a place prides itself on being "World's Best", then you best take notice. So when I first passed by it, I was understandably intrigued. Eventually, my lust for fried chicken started to get the better of me, so on one fateful day off, I decided to go and check it out. Walking up to the counter, I placed my order and took my seat. A surprisingly short amount of time later, my two pieces of dark meat fried chicken, mashed potato and gravy, coleslaw and a roll were in front of me on a black Styrofoam plate. I took a few testing pokes at the drumstick, to check for crispiness. This has been a large deal for me. There's only two things I really want from my fried chicken, super crispy skin and juiciness (I feel I don't have to mention flavor-I shouldn't have to, right??). Having passed my test (though just barely as it seemed some grease had pooled and had made the undersides of the chicken soggy) I bit into the leg. It was very hot in temperature, a good sign. Not a Niagra Falls of juice, but it was far from dry. And there was definitely a crisp factor. But how was the flavor? Honestly, one thought raced through my mind; KFC. I honest to God swore they used a KFC recipe for their chicken. Is the Colonel weeping in his grave? Is that what they use to brine their meat? Don't mistake me when I say KFC and thing I mean it's bad. It's not. It's several orders of magnitude better. But if the chicken didn't remind me of that place just below us here in Cincy, then the mash would. It wasn't bad, but they weren't great either. They were that familiar not cloudy but every so slightly gummy mortar drenched in chicken gravy. Again, they weren't bad. Just not great either. The real winner for the sides was the coleslaw. That was something short of revelatory. Not overly moist, very creamy with just a hint of vinegar twang. It was a tremendous accompaniment to the chicken. Will I go back? Yes. I am very tempted to try out more on their menu, and for their price, it's easy to do that. Best fried chicken in the world? I think not. Best fried chicken in the area? Perhaps, but I hope not. Stopped by here after seeing all the Yelp reviews and noticed it on the way home. Location is great because it's right off Kellogg. Fiance and I got plates with Coleslaw, bread, and fries for sides. The chicken itself is freaking awesome, but everything else was meh. I think next time I'll just order a bucket to bring home. It's not actually THAT cheap for a full plate with sides, but you definitely get a bang for your buck with the buckets of chicken. Interior is super retro; it screams "old school america," and I think that's pretty cool. Although there aren't many tables or room, service is pretty quick.
