We had just run Sabino Canyon and were looking for a late (7:30p) casual dinner. With The Hills open until 9p it was a match, albeit with some big shoes to fill ala the beloved Commoner. We started with the Brussels Sprouts and commended the chef on the novel far eastern twist, but the soy sauce was too much and likely dampened any crispness. She got the Impala burger and I got the sausage n 'shroom pizza. For those familiar with The Monica, their pizzas are virtual twins - which is a good thing - excellent crust/dough and "Monica" paper underneath as a sweet nod to the sister venue. My lone complaint about the pizza was that both end pieces of the oval were basically void of any toppings... something that should have been resolved the previous two weeks during their soft opening. The Impala burger was terrific but we would get it next time with the sugary bbq sauce on the side. We loved the 70/30 beef/mushroom blend of the patty too. We also tried the Tamarindo Cooler but I customized it with "very light" agave syrup and no ice. They nailed the tweaks but... we could barely taste tamarind... nothing like the delicious taste of a southside agua fresca and not worth $8.50. Service by Santi was very gracious. And parking is easy. We like that they maintained all of the same indoor and outdoor seating layout as the Commoner, and opted for the quieter (and less air conditioned) patio on this beautiful May evening. We decided to give this new place a try since we live nearby. It was Mother's Day and, surprisingly, it wasn't too busy. The host greeted us warmly and seated us at a high-top table facing the bar. She also mentioned that mothers would receive a free pastry and a flower for Mother's Day, but later when I asked about it, they told me they had already run out, a bit of a bummer... Our waiter was attentive, took our orders promptly, and made good recommendations. However, the wait for the food was about 32 minutes even though the restaurant wasn't busy. At one point, our waiter came by and said he was going to check on our food, which was appreciated because we were definitely getting hungry by then. We ordered the Catalina Chicken and the Far East Noodle Bowl with teriyaki chicken. Both dishes were flavorful, well cooked, and very enjoyable. I also ordered the Tamarindo Cooler, but unfortunately it was extremely sweet and tasted artificial. I could barely drink half of it, so I think the recipe could use some improvement. Another downside was the number of flies around our table and food. The restaurant keeps the patio windows open into the bar area, which may be contributing to the issue. Overall, the food was good and the prices are reasonable for the area, but there are definitely a few things that could improve the experience. read more

I've been to the hills soft opening 3 times . Dustin asked me respectfully please wait to review earlier , but gave the ok to write a Yelp review, I did. I first tried the steak & frites entree with a New York strip with chimichuri topping ( liked ) on top the steak which had been sliced and presented on sweet potato fries ( like) ; it was tasty . Last Friday & today came back for their Friday only fish & chips" two large pieces of tender Walleye lightly breaded served on bed of fries with Cole slaw & their tartar sauce. The breading on the fish is very light which for me adds to the enjoyment of the large portions of tender walleye .Both times with fish consistently good that's why I returned . Trust me it's a winner & could even be split to try something else . The menu includes salads , sandwiches , pasta , steak , burgers , personal pizzas & more . Loads of drinks with Wednesdays half off bottles of wine . The former commoner space has been totally renovated with a cool vibe w old stereo tv console as the entry station along with old porcelain gas store set up with the hills merch . There's a private brick dining room in back east side . Great Mountain View's from the n dining room area , bar pub area including tall passed seating & stool by bar , with full long porch set up with tables even a outdoor sofa area with a couple rocking chairs all on west side . I was so happy to see Isabel at the bar who works at El Charro Ventana across the street . Sitting at the bar met a new cool bar crew Laylani ,Jose, Sarah, with Marquis from downtown charro steak with super service thank you . I'm sure the hills will be a hit , it's already popular! I can't believe what a great job they are doing while still in the soft opening phase. Seriously, wow! Best ahi tuna nachos ever! Wonderful margaritas, spicy fried chicken sandwich, the GOAT pizzetta, all of it spot on. They could have brought our appetizer out more quickly but that will surely work itself out soon. The space is as nice as it was before, not a fan of the new barstools though- SO thrilled to have them in the neighborhood! We used to go to Commoner 2-3 times a month, but with the Hills having longer hours, I have a feeling we can increase that number! read more

This is a great neighborhood restaurant. Perfect combination of food, ambiance, and service. I have already had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. If you are a resident in the area, or after a hike in Sabino Canyon, or a tourist in the area, this is where locals hang out. The ambiance is trendy and friendly but very busy! Our waitress Isa was attentive and informative which was good because they were out of several things and it took awhile to get the food. We had Catalina chicken and margarita pizza. Both were very tasty. It was our anniversary and a free dessert would have been nice but those days are gone! read more

For a soft opening they did a fantastic job. The cocktails were great. The food was tasty and delicious. My favorites of the night was the noodle bowl and the ahi nachos. Atmosphere was comfortable, not too stuffy. Loved that they kept the music at a reasonable level. Staff was wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. Will be back again soon. read more

This is a new restaurant opening up as, hopefully, a local, comfortable spot near us. we went for dinner for mother's day. My wife had the Spicey Chicken Sandwich and a glass of Chardonnay. I have the Freebird Chicken & Fries and an IPA. Positives were (i) good ambiance, (ii) manageable noise level, (iii) decent service, (iv) good food (basically, elevated bar food), (v) reasonable price (just under $50 before tax and tip), (vI) our server had a trainee shadowing her, a very good thing to do (and overall, the waitstaff and hostess staff were very young, eager and friendly, plus they looked sharp - white shirts/blouses with black pants), (vii) we were not given big glasses of water to start or asked if we wanted water (which is like gold in the Arizona desert and mostly goes to waste when served to diners), and (viii) 100% unexpectedly, 25% discount on food (not drinks) because it is in a "soft opening" phase. That was really nice as a gesture (we don't care about the financial impact). No real negatives and we'd happily go back again. read more

A welcome addition to the neighborhood is what I have to say about The Hills. We happened by and had brunch at their soft opening. The avocado toast was presented nicely on a wood board. O had a basic bacon and eggs with Barrio bread sourdough toast and it hit the spot after a nice hike over at Sabino. The coffee was really good and the decor is fun and relaxed. Some Linda Rondstadt photos graced the walls and why not , she's a Tucson treasure. The prices were quite fair and the service was attentive. I have a really good feeling about this place. I wish I had some photos so you'll just have to go and see the cool vintage TV set at the entry way and the rocking chairs out front. Can't wait to try dinner there. read more

We made a reservation several days before we went to dine there yesterday. We arrived a little early and the young lady at the front desk said the table was still occupied and pointed it out to us. We said we just wanted to let her know that we were here. After a few minutes she came out to let us know that the people had left and it would be ready in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes past we went inside and checked on our table. It was cleaned up, but not set up yet. We stood waiting next to our reserved table, when different young lady came and said we could not have it because a lot of people were coming in. we asked what that had to do with our reservation and she offered us a small table with 2 wicker chairs which looked like decorations close to the toilets. We declined and told her that we would like to have the table that we were told was reserved for us and she declined. We then told here that we did not feel welcome anymore and we would. Leave and go to eat elsewhere. I have no idea what that was all about. We were dressed nice and our money is just as good as other peoples. Our credit rating is in the 800. I will never step foot again in that place and I will let all of my friends know about the really awful treatment we received. read more

Had a late lunch at the bar. I had the Impala Burger. i really enjoy that they take a responsible and unique approach to the house blended burger by adding Shitake Mushrooms in. The Billionaire bacon was amazing and paired well with the sauce. The Charro Margarita was perfectly balanced. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive. I'm very glad there is finally another great place in the neighborhood to eat in addition to Charro Cafe. I will defiantly be here a couple of times a week. read more

We took a chance on a brand new restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day and were pleasantly impressed. The location, interior decor , and the vibe, is awesome. The food, menu, and service were phenomenal! All of the staff were very welcoming, and polite. Our server was very knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. We can't say enough good about our experience. There were 3 in my party. We each had a different entree and we were all happy with the food and service. I had the Catalina Chicken which was chicken cutlets with pasta, fried arugala, lemons and capers. I am not a fan of arugala but it wasn't bad and the rest was delicious. It did not come with bread but I ordered a side of focaccia bread. My dinner partners had sandwiches which came with fries. This is a new restaurant and they are in the soft opening and everything was 25% off. I believe their opening is Mother's Day. Also the ambiance is nice and it is had the base of Catalina foothills.
