We had a horrible experience with the service. My friend made a reservation on Saturday she spoke with both a hostess and a manager and secured a reservation for Sunday. I called Sunday morning to add one more person, and suddenly they couldn't find our reservation anywhere. After some time, the hostess made a new reservation but told us it would be a tight fit.We all arrived on time. The hostess then said it would be a 25-minute wait and kept repeating that she had told me it wasn't guaranteed. She never told me that ;what she said was that it would be tight, but that because we had kids in our group, it would be fine.When I asked for the manager, she came briefly, said she would look into it, and then disappeared . she never returned, not even after we were finally seated. She sent the poor hostess back to deal with everything. The hostess told us she couldn't do anything and that we could either wait 30 minutes or go somewhere else. I asked for the manager again, and she still never came back.The hostess mentioned they would offer us some appetizers for the miscommunication, but we never received anything, and the manager never checked back in. This is not my first time here. We go often because the owner is always nice and we love the food, and enjoy both of his restaurants. I'm only sharing this because I know he cares a lot about the customer experience, and I believe the manager needs additional training on how to properly handle service issues. I have been thinking about trying the Hideout for awhile and we finally went over the weekend. My nephew and his girlfriend took four of us there for dinner. We booked reservations in advance. We got there a few minutes early, they seated us quickly, took our drink orders and then our meal order. They were very efficient and attentive. They checked on us periodically and kept our glasses filled. I'm not too sure if we missed out on the pre-meal bread. My brother thought he saw others were served bread. My wife thought it is a new trend that you need to ask for bread. We'll not quite sure if they serve bread there. My brother and I tried the Honey Fried Chicken (which is boneless) with mashed potatoes and kale. We both thought the fried chicken was excellent, tender, crunchy, good flavor, fried just right and generous portion sizes. The mash potatoes were creamy with small pieces of potato and tasty. The kale had dried cranberries and a few other ingredients that blended well together. My wife, sister-in-law and nephew had the seafood stew. They thought the seafood was fresh, good sized serving and the broth was so good they soaked up the extra broth at the end with the bread with pesto that came with the order. My nephew's girlfriend said the chicken pot pie had great ingredients, nice crust on top and no crust on the bottom. A lot of other restaurants use a pie crust on the bottom in addition to the pie crust top which ends up overwhelming the pie with crust. The pie has several different vegetables, just a crust top, chunks of chicken and a nice cream/broth that creates an excellent chicken pot pie. We loved the food, good service and healthy serving sizes so you don't walk away hungry. We will definitely be back so I can try the chicken pot pie and the braised pork shoulder. read more

Could have been a little juicier, but it was fine considering it was white meat. Loved eating brunch here! It has beautiful outside dining and a brunch menu until 3pm and everything looked incredible. We were seated right away and the waitress was very attentive. The only issue I had with eating outside was that there were these white cotton leaves all over the air sometimes landing on the table so I recommend eating inside for this reason. On to the food: I had a breakfast burrito and I gotta say it was really well put together. Avocado and yogurt added a freshness to it and the bacon was a great choice of meat. I'm a fan of the red tortilla as well as the orange salsa it came with that added a kick of spice. My only con would be that I prefer hashbrowns over country potatoes in a breakfast burrito and that the country potatoes could've had more seasoning but beside that, incredible meal! read more

Dinners at the original Hideout location were always delicious. Tonight's dinner, however, at the new location, was not good. All four entrees were a disaster. The meat entrees that were supposed to be medium were overcooked and dry --- difficult to cut with a knife. Accompanying salad had a bottle dressing flavor and croutons tasting like they were from a plastic bag pulled off the shelf at Safeway. The shrimp pasta was tasteless. Service was okay. Loving the new location! We're enjoying the chicken panini and the Lafayette salad with salmon. Very generous fillet, perfectly done. Crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. I personally don't go out of my way to sit down & write Yelp reviews but I felt like this establishment is definitely worth my time to talk about. Our server was welcoming & had great hospitality so I was already comfortable when my boyfriend & I were given these cute little menus & waters on the spot. At first, I was a little intimidated by the prices because the shrimp & grits that caught my eye was $27.95. But when I received the entree & had my first bite, all of my doubt immediately vanished. Just... wow. The flavor was immaculate & I was worried the chorizo was going to be too much for me but everything from the roasted tomatoes to the parmesan grits balanced out so nicely. I was having an extremely difficult week but having brunch here was a great way to relieve a lot of that stress. The cozy ambiance during a rainy day played a big part in that as well. Our house was very tentative and paid attention to he constantly checked upon us to make sure we had enough water and refilled my iced tea whenever it was empty. The place was very nice. Indoor is dim with lights coming from sconces @ the bar top. Food comes quick, and very delicious. Haven't had a bad experience @ the Hideout. This is one of favorite breakfast spots in the Bay Area. Decided to come on a Saturday morning around 10am and there was no wait. They have indoor seating and outdoor seating but we opted in for outdoor since it was warm outside. They have 2 indoor areas. One was the main room and they also had a book room type room on the side. I recommend checking out the book room if looking to sit inside. We ordered The Full Plate 10/10 -eggs, bread, side and meat Bacon Benedict 10/10 Both these dishes were very good. I highly recommend their country potatoes since it is really flavorful. The service was also really great and super friendly. Parking was also not too bad but did notice when we left that the parking lot was full. It was a warm and beautiful day and so the hubby and I decided to get some brunch. We sat at the bar to avoid 30 mins wait. One of our go to neighborhood restaurant-bars! I stop by here frequently for drinks and often for diner. Great appetizers: Hummus & Pitas and Mussels & Clams. Go to mains: The Chop, Honey Fried Chicken and Porchetta & Polenta. The appetizers are very tasty and pair nicely with their mixed cocktails. The mains are hearty on days where you need something extra. I find the sides to be extremely delicious and not just an after thought to the featured proteins. The waffle sandwich is a must! It's country fried steak, cheddar, egg, between two waffles with sausage gravy. Let me tell you it is DELICIOUS! My favorite part is the sausage gravy. Ordering it i thought it was going to be too heavy and i wouldn't be able to finish it all but i actually thought the portion size was perfect. It also comes with a side. I got the tots but didn't finish them all. Keep it mind it does get pretty packed on the weekends at brunch time. We waited about 30 minutes. Well worth the wait in my opinion! The steak was supposed to be medium-well but was served medium-rare instead. I believe this is the most expensive entree on the menu? So, higher expectations. I made a reservation for My wife's birthday and inadvertently made it for the wrong day. We arrived at what I thought was the allotted time and was abruptly advised I had the wrong date. I the. Asked if we could still get a table and the hostess(young female) rudely said no and they were not taking walk-ins. I advised her that this was a special occasion and we would be willing to wait- she again rudely just said no. Another woman walked by and asked what was the issue and the hostess said that she could not give us a table. The other woman looked at the computer and found a table for us immediately. The rest of the evening was excellent and we appreciated the excellent and kind service. When leaving there was a young man talking to the hostess and he very kindly said thanks and have a good evening. The young lady just glared at us. I get that not all are accepting of people of different life choices (we are gay) but the first and last person you encounter in such a lovely establishment should be a positive person who makes some modicum of an effort to be friendly. The ambiance was nice, it was jam packed and we didn't have a reservation but we were able to be seated right away at a high table nearby. The food (because that's why we were there right?!) yum, yum, yum!!! There were 4 of us and we each got something different, I got the pulled pork silog, my hubby had the shrimp and grits, my friends got the bacon Benedict and the smoked salmon Benedict! Everything was flavored to perfection, came out hot and there were no substitutions needed. When you can go to a restaurant and not have to sub something out, I call that a WIN! Also, let me not forget the drinks! They have a full bar and a pretty nice wine list. I didn't get wine today (shocker, I know!) but on my next visit (lunch or dinner), I'll definitely indulge! What's up with the ridiculous stools at the high top tables!? The seat depth is short (and I'm not a tall person), so you constantly slide forward and the stretcher where you rest your feet is slick and curved so your feet slide off. I had to wrap my legs around the legs of the stool to keep lock myself in place. Hideout, please rethink these stools. Even our server said everyone hates them. lol. Food was very good. We enjoyed the Blodsy Mary's, the Brioche French Toast, and the Florentine Benedict. My only complaint about the food was that my Benedict wasn't hot. Granted, it was topped with tomato and avocado, but the egg, the sauce, and the sautéed spinach were all room temp, too. We thought the restaurant opened at 10 so we got here at 9:45am on a Sunday but appeared that the restaurant was already opened since 8am. We didn't have to wait long ~5 mins. Smoke salmon Benedict - the amount of salmon was very generous. egg were poached perfectly. Side salad was very good and made my wife wanted to order a salad next time. Shrimp and grits - very flavorful but different than traditional southern grits, this came with heavy roasted tomatoes. Don't get this if you're not a fan of tomatoes. Pulled pork silog - pork was juicy and tender but the rice was very disappointing. No garlic taste whatever so didn't expect undercooked brown rice. Hotcakes and Ube hot cakes - ok. Both pancakes were kinda hard to cut into, like bouncy cake texture... Besides the pancakes, we'll be back to try other items and would recommend this restaurant. read more

I hadn't been here for about 5 years so was surprised about the new location. This new location is set in a plaza with many other good shops/restaurants as well. Since the wife was on her lunch hour, we got the The Hideout Burger + Fries w/ Parmesan, the WaffleSandwich, and a Watermelon Wheat Beer on tap. I'm a sucker for burgers and have had my fair share in ordering and cooking them myself. With the Hideout Burger, I was extremely disappointed. The burger was cooked to how I ordered it (medium), but it was still very dry. I remember from the menu that it was ground chuck, so I'm assuming that they just didn't add enough fat to the mix that they were using to it just didn't have enough juice on the meat (think like using 93% beef, 7% fat). Aside from the sunny side egg (that happened to erupt before even touching the burger), I couldn't pick up any sauce/butter on the brioche buns. After eating half the burger and switching with my wife, the WaffleSandwich was okay. The gravy and countryfried steak made was a good combination and trying it with a hint of syrup was a combination of different tastes that I enjoyed. I saved the top waffle to eat just by itself, again, was very disappointed. I know they probably make these waffles in house, but the inside of the waffle felt like one of those waffles you pull out of the freezer that are pre-made and you don't heat thoroughly enough so it has a this cold, mushy interior. The saving grace to the meal was the fries + sweet potato fries. A little over-salted, but I didn't mind too much. read more

Recently opened in a new location in Lafayette Circle - across the parking lot where Tutu's is. Went for lunch and had the steak salad which had a fresh variety of greens with some kale and other veggies. My friend had the rigatoni and cheese. She found the hand cut noodles a little on the large side and would have preferred slightly smaller cut noodles for ease of eating but otherwise an excellent tasty variety of cheeses and finished the whole dish with ease. Looking forward to the mocktail and non alcoholic options on their extensive wine and beer menu as the waiter wasn't prepared to suggest anything for us.
