Overall amazing park ambiance and great service! Really enjoyed the space inside and the park area. Strawberry flavor tasted very fresh not artificial with the milk. Matcha could've been sweeter for my taste but it was good. Less one star because no bathrooms indoors. The ports potties closed and had to go to the park bathrooms and they were traumatizingly dirty. Not the cafes fault but know that it's limited options.
This place was nice. I love the large park/field in front of the café. There's plenty of space to enjoy. My husband got a turmeric latte and loved it. I ordered an americano and it was really good. We also ordered 2 cookies, one oatmeal and one chocolate and they were perfect. I loved the vibe inside and the staff was super friendly.
The Hidden Cafe is the perfect spot to grab coffee and a snack and study, meet up with friends, take your dog out, make art, chill etc! Pretty much any scenario fits this cafe. The food is not only delicious but also there are many vegan and gluten free options. Local restaurants often host pop ups here as well. The service is friendly and fast. Inside looks like a home library in a fairy forest and outside is a majestic park with a creek the drip offer before 12 is like 3-4 dollars, which let's be honest where can you really find that in the bay anymore? Every drink I've had here is made to perfection as well. A local favorite
My friend and I stopped in and ordered a hot matcha latte and a cappuccino and both drinks were honestly spot-on. Everything tasted creamy, smooth, and most importantly not overly sweet. The matcha had a clean, mellow flavor and the cappuccino had that perfect balanced richness. What really elevates this place is the location. It sits right next to a large park, and the whole area has such a vibrant, feel-good energy. People were lounging outside, sipping coffee, and just soaking in the day, it made the whole visit feel extra cozy and lively at the same time. Inside the café has a serious charm. There's a massive bookshelf filled with books (huge bonus points for including kids' storybooks too), which gives the space a warm, community feel. Service was quick and efficient even though the place was buzzing. Fair warning: it's clearly a favorite among students but somehow it still works with the vibe rather than against it.
Dreamy cute café with books, shells, old curios, and dried flower as decoration. I was able to get seating on a stool looking out the window at the park. It was a rainy day and quite the vibe. The 5 stars are all for the decor. There is also outdoor seating and the entire park when the weather is nice. My coffee drink was good and reasonably priced for the era and area. I ordered a lemon bar which looked fabulous with thin slices of lemon. The lemon curd top was tart and tasty, though the high price and crust were a little disappointing. I would not order it again. Ordered drinks can be served at the to-go window or inside. Keep an ear out and an eye on your drink order, as the park access makes it easy for drinks to walk away. Do note there is limited indoor seating, and it is tight to navigate.
I needed to be in Berkeley for an event in the evening, so I decided to come up and work from this cafe earlier in the day. I chose this spot since it was further from campus and figured it'd be easier to snag a seat. There were a few seats open when I arrived on a Thursday around 2:30 PM. The wi-fi is also good (I had to take an impromptu Zoom meeting and didn't have any issues). I decided to order the Kokuto Latte, which was delicious and not overwhelmingly sweet. I also got a Magic Purple Square, which contains ube and coconut, but it was quite dry and not really my preferred pastry. The aesthetics of this cafe is nice and it's located next to a park, so there's plenty of outdoor space. I would come again next time I'm looking for a cafe in Berkeley!
The Hidden Cafe hides on the park-side of a grey-siding and red-brick building a block south of University Ave. The line can get long, but there was no line at noon on a Tuesday (Oct 2025). They have a small tasty selection of baked goods that changes frequently, often including great coffee cake and sticky buns, creative bars and brownies, and some savories including savory scones. On the weekends they host guest chefs! We had their delicious coffee, and chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies. We love their fresh baked goods and the well-made coffee with the right grind and right amount of extraction, for a non-acid non-sour non-bitter brew. We had our first "dirty" chai, tea with espresso. It's a good / interesting flavor. I'm more a coffee person :-) They have handful of outdoor tables for around 12, and a bright homey indoors with seating for around 16. We had a sweet relaxed time watching people picnic and play in the greenspace out front. Then we took a short stroll south past a cute bubbling creek to the fun playground at Strawberry Creek Park. The Hidden Cafe is a quiet treasure with plenty of free street-parking.
Small and very popular cafe especially on a sunny weekend. BTW no restroom here but walk further into the park and two public restrooms are available. Enjoyed a Paloma and a cookie. Definitely limited seating inside but bring a blanket or some folding chairs for Strawberry Creek park right outside (the grass/ ground was damp).
This coffee shop looks like something out of a Studio Ghibli film. It's so quaint and adorable and it's definitely someplace I'd love to curl up with a good book! I visited on a weekend and there were many families and people walking dogs in the little park area right outside. Only downside is that it gets very crowded and there are limited seats available, so we had to take our drinks to-go. Would come back again!
Super cute cafe with outdoor and indoor seating and a park with lots of doggies running around. They do have a bathroom but you need a key and it's on the other side of the building. Cheddar scone - moist and flavorful Choc chip cookie - a stunner. Crisp edges and chewy center; this is amazing. Hojicha latte - not a ton of flavor, would not order again.
This place is so cute! I love how this place is tucked away in a brick building next to the park. The vibes here are immaculate. I came here with a couple of friends around 4pm in the afternoon on Sunday. There is small parking lot by the park but when I went it was full so I had to circle around a bit to find street parking. The service was friendly and efficient. You place your order inside and then wait for your order outside where you can pick up your drink from a pickup counter. There were some indoor seating options and I saw some people doing work on laptops inside. I ordered the Kokuto latte and one of my friends got an iced matcha latte. My kokuto latte was smooth and had a pleasant sweetness from the Okinawan brown sugar. I tried some of my friend's iced matcha latte and it tasted average. It was a bit clumpy and the matcha taste was present but not too strong. The highlight is definitely the cafe's proximity to the huge green space from the park. My friends and I sat down on grass and soaked up the sun. It was a perfect way to end an afternoon out.
Cute little hidden spot in #berkeley. Had the chai latte and Palermo. Both had great flavor, with the chai being a little stronger than I anticipated. The venue is very laid back and is a good spot to hang out and listen to nothing but nature (since there's a small field in front). read more

Definitely a Hidden Cafe! I love the view inside. They have a whole free grass area to have a picnic, there's a few benches to have a coffee date, etc. there's a park down the way with public bathrooms that were clean! Staff was really nice and not to mention they have vegan pastries! Definitely will be back! read more

Ambiance: hands-down the best cafe in Berkeley. Super small and quaint inside with a cozy nook wall and huge windows that let light spill in from the park outside. And the park outside. Absolutely adorable and you can spend so much time romanticizing your life out of these windows. There is also always a bubble machine running that adds to the whimsical ambiance in the place. Be warned though it can get a bit packed sometimes. Food: a huge variety of tasty drinks and snacks. Hidden Cafe never disappoints. read more

There's definitely no irony in the name because I kept passing by this spot since I easily get lost if I stray just one block away from University Avenue. It's quite a nice setting, an old furniture factory building refurbished into a design center on the edge of the narrow Strawberry Creek Park, clearly a favorite spot for the baby stroller crowd. I came upon it just as a large indecisive group of chatty locals converged upon the order counter and monopolized the friendly server... For about fifteen minutes! Hello? Well, at least they gave me more than enough time to review the full salad and taco menu they were offering that day. By the time I got to order, I was so lured by their baked goods that I bought a Chocolate Chip & Chopped Walnut Cookie freshly made next door at Phoenix Pastificio (photo: http://bit.ly/2PuVOrK). Of course it was delicious and it was also gone in record time. For my actual meal, I first ordered the Chekhovian named $3 Three Sisters Taco which was anchored by grilled summer squash. It was placed on top of cumin seed hummus, sautéed onions, and black pepper sweet corn (photo: http://bit.ly/36holbe). It was a flavorful combination of flavors. My main order was the $11.11 Strawberry Leaf Salad with frisée lettuce mixed with pearled farro, fresh cut strawberries, shards of mozzarella, and crushed almonds, all of it drizzled with a vanilla bean grapeseed balsamic vinaigrette (photo: http://bit.ly/2PrCPys). It was deliciously fresh. Such a Berkeley kind of meal in a kinda pastoral setting. OK, it's a little patch of green. Close enough. Such a cute coffee shop! I love the vibes but it is on the smaller side and fills up easily with students who are studying. But I met up with a friend and ordered a hot Okinawa brown sugar latte with oat milk and loved it! I usually order iced drinks and accidentally ordered it hot but it was the perfect temp for me (as I didn't need to wait for it to cool down for me to drink it) the employee was friendly and overall I enjoyed my time here. I also got this pastry but I wasn't sure what it was called. It was a flat bread with pesto, tomatoes, jam and feta cheese. I would definitely come back :) read more

Cute coffee shop vibes on point!!!! Went on a Saturday morning coffee date with some friends and decided to take a nice walk through Strawberry creek to The Hidden Cafe. We emerged from the park and was greeted with so many cute doggos on the lawn, bubbles in the air from the bubble machine, and just great vibes before even stepping foot inside! It was my first time here and I was pleasantly surprised to find such cute, boho-chic decor, sunny window laden seating areas inside, plant & dried flower heaven. I ordered the matcha & strawberry latte, and my friends got chai lattes. Friendly service, tasty drinks served in eco-conscious containers/ rainbow straws, and a pleasant ambiance. This is the perfect spot in Berkeley to pick up some caffeine and bites and mingle with friends. read more

We wanted to enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee so we stopped by the Hidden Cafe. We were greeted by a bubble machine cranking out a tremendous out of bubbles. A few tables are setup up next the the grass park and the combination of soft music made this a very relaxing time. Oh the coffee was fabulous as was the chocolate chip coffee. Cutest little cafe next to Strawberry Creek Park. The ambience is vintage and boho, with handmade dry flower decor and lots of green plants. There was outdoors seating. The drinks menu was interesting, seasonal choices listed in addition to standard coffee and tea options. I had a delicious strawberry steamer that was foamy and just sweet and fragrant enough. There is a selection of pastries though not too big. The quiche they warmed up for me tasted homemade with fresh ingredients and love. Simple, satisfying comfort food. The place was so cozy I can see myself come back here often. It's just like a friend's living room, welcoming, relaxing, offering great coffee and snacks. read more

An aesthetic cafe with a beautiful outside seating area and large grassy picnic area! My girlfriend and another couple met up here on a Saturday afternoon for some small bites, drinks, and a good time. The line around 12:30PM wasn't too long, so we proceeded to get in line and order some drinks as well as food. The drinks were on point. We ordered multiple drinks, which ranged from Chai Latte to Americanos to Hojicha Latte. All of them were made expertly and very delicious. Also, the service was very fast for our drinks and they came out quickly, before our food. The food seems to be seasonal and changes depending on the day you go. We ordered an egg, cheese, and chorizo breakfast sandwich on an English muffin, as well as a chorizo hot dog which came topped with some chimichurri, and served with potato salad and red onions. The food was alright - both the breakfast sandwich and hot dog were pretty good, but nothing to have a second thought about. The chorizo was not as flavorful and spicy as traditional chorizo, and potato salad and red onions on the side didn't serve as substantial sides to the hot dog. The price wasn't cheap for the food either, and also it took a lot longer (probably like 10-15 extra minutes) for the food to come out. One exception to the food however was the soft serve! The ice cream here was on point! It was a lighter vanilla ice cream served in a cone - not your traditional creamy and milky vanilla ice cream. It had almost a slight coconut flavor to it, but downing it was really easy and perfect on the bright sunny day. Plus, someone serves it to you almost immediately which is awesome as well. Ultimately, if you're looking for a nice cafe to relax at or catch up with some friends then this is definitely a great spot to do so in Berkeley. I would say the area is really nice and the drink options are great - the food is so-so and probably not worth it, so either eat beforehand/afterwards or bring some picnic snacks to chow down on! I know that I'll definitely be back to picnic and have some drinks with some friends if I'm in the area! read more
This place is SO cute! It's a small cafe right next to a park so there's plenty of people hanging out with their coffees along the grass, dogs running around or kids playing in the bubble machine. They even have extra blankets for you to borrow to sit on the grass with in case you forgot your own. There's limited seating and a couple tables outside usually with people working at them. The atmosphere here is so friendly and the overall atmosphere here is wonderful. They just started selling soft serve ice cream cones and I loved this on a warm summer day :) I will definitely be coming back!!! read more

This must be one of my favorite coffee shops of all time. Absolutely beautifully hidden location, big green lawn to bring dogs, lots of outdoor space to bring friends. The coffee is excellent and I love the little touches of mismatched mugs and antique furniture and books. read more

So glad my husband and I got to visit this place recently. The hidden cafe is a little piece of heaven in the Berkeley residence area. There was a little gallery of items outside where people could look and buy stuff. The actual cafe was very happening and filled to the brim with people. They have teas and coffees, and of course pastries and cakes. Service was friendly and attentive, decor was charming and we loved the outdoor seating area and the park nearby. Such a versatile place with so many instagram worthy shots. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Cutest coffee place I have found in Berkeley. Been on the hunt for a place that gives me Korean/Japanese cafe vibes and this place does it for me. Love the open windows and outdoor seating. Came on cod pop up Thursday and it was so worth it, will definitely be coming back. Got there right at 11 when they were starting up the fryers and my husband and I shared a small fish and chips with a side of chowder and Earl Gray iced tea. Everything was perfectly fried and the chowder was full of fish and had great hunks of bread and some roe on top. It was the perfect amount of food. We took a stroll around the little park while they were preparing the food and sat at a little table on the patio. We also popped next door to the homemade pasta place and got some dinner for later. read more

This is a cozy spot with a great location in Strawberry Creek Park! Very family and pet-friendly, we ordered a matcha latte, mocha, and a couple bagels from their Sunday pop-up menu. Staff were very friendly and super helpful in customizing a bagel with all vegan toppings for my friend. They had several blankets out front to borrow and picnic on the grass if you didn't want to sit inside or at one of the tables outside. We picked up our drinks from their window and shortly after, staff brought our bagels out to us on the lawn. Would recommend for good location, delicious food, and great ambience and community! read more
Kind employees and owner, wonderful ambiance, bit pricey, nice nearby greenery. I came here on recommendation last week and it didn't disappoint! The cafe is tucked away near a local park with limited indoor and outdoor seating available in addition to the grass. I ordered an 8oz cashmere chai and it tasted great. This place was SO cute! Went here on a Wednesday morning around 10am to get some work done. There was not a lot of seating available but at 10am we were able to grab a couple of seats. There was a lot of natural light and even bubbles blowing outside :') It was right near Strawberry Creek Park and there was seating outdoors today. I'll definitely be coming back here to do work in the future! read more

Found this place during covid and was bummed when they stopped serving tacos. However, I came here this Sunday and had the best bagels! I got the Miami vice bagel with Lox. I also get the rose latte here, this was a drink they used to offer but is no longer on their menu. I am a little confused about why menus got changed, however as long as my rose latte is made I'm going to keep coming back. It's a very much community feel :) read more

This hidden gem in Downtown Berkeley, hence the name The Hidden Cafe, is so delightful! After kayaking at the Berkeley marina, a friend of mine suggested coming here and I was so excited! I finally had the opportunity to come after having it bookmarked for so long. The cafe is operating as outdoor dining with ample seating because there's a lovely large patch of grass in front of it where you can grab your drink and picnic with friends. I came near the end of their hours for a weekend and ordered a mocha, only to learn they ran out of chocolate that hour. This led me to try something EVEN BETTER: their kokuto latte. I've never been a latte person but THIS LATTE made me one. The barista explained to me that kokuto is a black sugar from Okinawa, Japan that makes coffee taste caramel-y and delicious. And he was so right! This latte was so rich and just the right balance of sweet, coffee, and smooth. Although the latte was smaller than I expected, it was perfect for the breezy weather and I cherished every sip even more. I cannot wait to come back to try their rotating menu of foods and to have this latte again! read more

A very cool hip place. i love the vibe and all the greenery in the cafe and outside. I met the owner Asako and she was really sweet! She put out freshly baked cookies and I got the yummy banana bread. I also got an almond milk mocha made by barista Kelvin and it tasted really great & I got some cool latte art in my cup. He mentioned that the chocolate syrup in the mocha is house made as well as all the other syrups they use! I will be back with my family to hangout outside the cafe and to try the food. Also if you like bubbles this is the place for you! read more

Is it spacious inside? Looking for a good place to study.
The cafe itself is very small inside, but there are some extra tables/seating areas outside the cafe. I personally prefer to be inside where I have access to a full size table and outlets, so I wouldn't recommend as a study spot.
What's parking like?
Street parking nearby, you might find better luck off Allston way & walk through Strawberry creek park to get there :)
