This place is good for the aesthetics. The cafe is beautiful, with a nice, spacious interior, and a large, beautiful exterior with ample seating. There are two large restrooms and some seating out front on the curb as well. The food and drinks look nice, are plated well, and the baristas are very talented at latte art. However, the coffee was not great. I wanted to like it, but the espresso was very watery and almost imperceptible. I get that a cappuccino would be milky, but it just wasn't good. They get bagels from a local restaurant (Boichik Bagels), and it was fine. I honestly don't think it's worth the price though. I really wanted to like this place. It's very well designed and they have good branding, aside from the AI matcha sign, which looked pretty unappetizing. The workers are very efficient and nice, so I was hoping the food and drinks would match the quality. I think this is a good place to go and take pictures or for events, but if you're going for the food or coffee, there's much better cafes around. read more

Beautiful, great vibe, delicious coffee... stay far away from the food. The cheese on my croissant sandwich was moldy--which I discovered after I took a bite. I spit out the bite and saw the mold. I took the plate back to the counter and showed the cashier the mold. He apologized profusely, took the plate and walked away. I stood there and waited a minute, but no one came back to talk to me. I wouldn't have eaten anything else, but I would have appreciated at least the offer of a refund. I took one bite, which I ended up not even eating. The cashier was very nice about it, however the barista standing next to him looked at me like I just ran over his foot with my car. At any rate, great for coffee and the ambiance is wonderful. Adore this place and the vibe! The aesthetics, the tranquility in the atmosphere is awesome. Not just that, any questions i had about wanting to host a party here was answered thoroughly. Or hosting any event because of how beautiful the patio is. Let's get to the food, I came here with just my son and myself. So i splurged a bit with the avocado toast, added lox, and an egg. When i bit into it, the flavors of the creaminess of the runny egg over the lox and avocado was heavenly! I also got a latte and it was soooo yummy, the espresso was perfect, it was strong enough to my liking that i didn't have to go back and ask for an extra shot of espresso on the side. I always drive by Cafenated but never stopped by. I finally had the chance and I'm glad I did. I'm trying to less caffeine these days so to hear that they had a decaf chai latte I was so excited! It was so delicious, I had it with oat milk and nothing else and it was perfect. I will definitely come back to try some of their food, looks like they have brunch and dinner. The pastries also looked delicious if that's something you like. I didn't see any vegan and/or gluten free options for pastries, unless I missed it. The staff was very nice, always with a smile. The coffee spot was pretty big with some tables inside to sit at. It's easy to find since it's on the corner of Ashby and College Ave in Berkeley. Cafenated has an incredible ambiance as a place to study! Both the indoor seating area and the outdoor patio are very beautiful, especially on a sunny day. If you want to get some work done here, come early or you may have to wait for a table. I really would not recommend eating brunch here. It was a limited menu and they've taken a lot of menu items off (like the pork belly sandwich). A lot of the food did not feel fresh or made to order. The chicken and waffles plate did not feel like the chicken tenders were freshly battered and fried. I'm only giving this high of a rating because the cafe is so big and beautiful and the staff were friendly. Don't be fooled by the simplistic exterior of this coffee shop; there is a large beautiful oasis garden in the back. Off the main road, the serenity of the Cafenated Coffee is welcoming. Great roasts and the coffee here is excellent. Not bitter, creamy, full body and satisfying. I ordered the croissant to enjoy with my coffee, and simply stated, didn't. It was not buttery and flaky, rather more like bread shaped into a croissant. I asked to have it warmed up, hoping to make it more palatable, and it was not. I popped in here to grab a coffee and do some work and will certainly be back! I came on a Wednesday afternoon and the cafe was busy, but I was still able to quickly find a seat. The staff were welcoming and friendly and my salted caramel cappuccino came out promptly and was delicious! Cafenated Coffee Company is a great venue. Pleasant to hang out in, both inside and more gloriously in the garden in back. Strictly from a place to be, it's actually one of the nicest spots along the Gourmet Ghetto. The service is good as well. Although regularly doing brisk business, the staff here are efficient and friendly. Compared to the often extended wait times at other cafes in North Berkeley, CCC is a testament to its conscientious staff and management. The coffee? Now that's complicated. Their prices are on the highish side. And the product is mixed. Sometimes, an excellent brew is the result (my preferences run to cortados, but I have had their lattes and macchiatos as well). Sometimes, the result has been problematic enough that I have had to ask that they remake my order. The very inconsistency of the end results leaves me wondering. Lastly, I am not keen on the billing. My complaint, by the way, is not just CCC exclusive, but they are an extreme example of a growing trend. The have all sorts of add-ons to your bill (including, improbably, a charge for to-go orders!). Yesterday's six dollar latte, for example, came to 15% more than the sticker price. Like so many cafes and coffee shops, they use a Square billing system. Not only does it suggest tips starting at 20%, but these are tips that are bill inclusive. Tips should be based on pretax, pre-surcharge costs, not on all the extra costs of taxes and various surcharges added in. The decision on whether to base these tip suggestions pretax or bill inclusive rests specifically with the owner. And let me be clear: this is not a swipe at hard-working employees--they are not seeing all of that tip that you're giving (always leave cash tips, if you can). The owner--and indeed all owners who do this--is trying to make his/her/their parsimony look like a virtue. I would gently suggest he/she/they take a look in the mirror. So, alas, CCC gets three stars. And that is a generous three stars at that. read more

Came here for a post hike brunch and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Salad and the flavor was incredible. The chicken was perfectly cooked and pared well with the fresh mixed greens. The Oatmilk Chai was incredibly flavorful, loved it. The people in my party liked their food as well. The mocha tasted like cheap chocolate with no coffee flavor at all. Everything is overpriced and absolutely not worth it. This restaurant shows no effort in making good food or coffee. It's rare that my husband and I feel upset after a meal, but this one was truly bad. There are plenty of great cafés in Berkeley, so please save your money and your stomach for somewhere else. I came here for lunch for the first time with a friend today. While the food and drinks I ordered were great (the breakfast board and a oat milk chai latte with espresso), I was incredibly disappointed by the overstepping of the man who took my order. I am visibly very pregnant and after I placed my order, the gentleman asked "out of concern" if I should be drinking caffeine and told me "his wife didn't risk it". I was taken aback and responded kindly, providing him with the current medical guidelines because I felt I was being asked to justify or change my order. I hope that going forward the staff can be trained to avoid commenting their thoughts and opinions on customers' bodies and orders. One of my favorite coffee shops in Berkeley! This was my second time coming to Cafenated Coffee Co. and decided to try a new drink. I had a hot white mocha with oatmilk and it was really good. My boyfriend had a hot vanilla latte and he enjoyed his drink as well. We visited early on a Friday morning and it was quite packed inside. They also have plenty of outdoor seating in the back which would be nice on a warm day. Service was great and drinks came out pretty fast! The "Spicy" Chicken and Waffles was not good. The waffles were disgustingly sweet. The chicken is not spicy and the breading had a strange texture. Only good thing on the plate is the fruit. I've always liked this place so it's really just constructive criticism. The service is good, and I remember having this dish in the past at the College Ave location and not having any complaints. The coffee and food is also really good, a little on the more expensive size but they always have great service and the energy! The outdoor seating is so beautiful, it feels like working in a garden. Got the omelette and side of potatoes. Super bland and very expensive. The server in back patio was not very attentive and just friendly enough.
