Great burgers, they have awesome 1/2 lb burgers, they also do a 1 lb burger and a 2lb burger. Does not serve liquor or beer New York steak was pretty good and cooked as ordered. Mac and cheese was awesome as a side. The honey badger burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had. 1/2lb burger with pulled pork, pastrami, lettuce, tomato, and onions. Comes with a tangy bbq sauce that has a hint of mustard, and is fantastic. read more

We had a really good experience here ! Great atmosphere , great food , great service ! We got the brisket sandwich with fries , the New York strip steak with Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries . We also had lemonade and diet Dr Pepper . Yum ! All of the food was great ! We would both agreed the brisket was A++! And the fries were perfect . The drinks come in a fun mug , and I loved the taste of the soda . I will say - we were pretty excited about the shakes ... but next time we would pass on those. Especially for the price , but even then ... the flavors were just kinda blah .(strawberry , huckleberry and a peanut butter pie shake .) Overall - would definitely recommend! read more

My husband and I went here for the first time tonight. Both of us got Honey Badger Burger. It comes with 1/2 pound beef patty, beef pastrami, bacon, and pulled pork! It also comes with hand-cut fries. Sooo yummy! The portion is really generous, I couldn't even finish half of the burger. read more

The Hickory - Honey Badger Burger. Half pound beef patty, beef pastrami, bacon, and pulled pork! - Barbeque Near Me - Rexburg, Idaho

Everybody has some bias or frame of reference, so let me explain ours. We are a North Carolina couple who love Carolina style pulled pork. We won't comment about sauces, because that's like talking about politics or religion where we come from. Everybody has their preferences and won't budge despite the evidence. Wait, I digress. My wife loves pulled pork, but is not a huge steak fan. I personally love a great prime rib. My job requires me to travel all over the U.S., so I have eaten prime rib from coast to coast and north to south. With our love of pulled pork, I have built several pit smokers and we routinely smoke pulled pork, brisket, and chicken, but I have never tried smoking prime rib. Now for the review of The Hickory in Rexburg, Idaho. Tonight we stayed in Rexburg after a 13-hour drive. Starving, we checked into our hotel and got online to find dinner that we could bring back to our hotel. As soon as we found the Hickory, we knew where we were headed. I phoned in and placed the order. The staff was super friendly. The only negative was the background noise and her COVID mask made it hard for my hearing aids to understand everything she said. She was very patient and our order was perfectly correct. When we arrived at the Hickory to pick up our food, I was surprised. Many BBQ joints are small and not fancy. Not the Hickory. The place was well lit, clean, larger than expected and my stomach growled with anticipation as soon as I smelled the air coming from within. The ambiance seemed very nice for a family night out or a couples date. The food was ready and again the staff was awesome. I had mentioned on the phone that we were in a hotel and would need utensils. They told me to simply ask when I picked up the food. Well I had forgotten by the time I got over there. Just before I walked out, a hostess ran up and asked if I was the one who was staying in a hotel. I said yes and she immediately handed me the utensils I had forgotten to ask for. Back at the hotel our stomachs were doing backflips of anticipation as we made our way to the room. The food was AWESOME! My wife says my pulled pork is the best in the world, but she is expected to say such things. After mine though, she says the Hickory is a great runner up. The pork was full of flavor and moist. Score one for the Hickory. As for my Prime Rib, I took one bite, which my plastic fork had no problem tearing away, dipped it in their Au Jus and as soon as the tasty morsel hit my tongue, I fell to my knees and started chanting, "I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy...". Seriously it was the best prime rib I have eaten anywhere in the U.S. The horseradish sauce left something to be desired, as it was not as strong as I typically like, but the Au Jus was something to behold. It was not the normal brown meat dripping style. It certainly had the meat dripping, but it clung to the meat like no other Au Jus and had a hint of mustard taste. It complemented the meat so synergistically that I would love the recipe. If you're ever in Rexburg Idaho, you should eat at the Hickory! read more

Horrible service, the waitresses there are always in a bad mood and treat you like crap. I used to always order the cranberry salad and I would always have a problem with it, uncooked chicken, sometimes they would put no pecans, sometimes they wouldn't give me the dressing I ordered, and they will never put it in a bag with napkins and a fork like it should be (I would always get it to go), never going back, its really sad cause it's the only place in Rexburg where they have the cranberry salad. read more

To my surprise this place turned out to be outstanding. Their Cowboy beison burger was cooked to perfection and their veraity of lemonade mix was awesome. Definetly looking forward to coming back to this place when I m back in town. read more

For Rexburg, this is a tasty restaurant. One of the best places you can eat in the town. Portion sizes are good, ambiance is set well. Overall I give it a 4 out of 5. It's nice to have a decent choice finally! read more

Delicious! I wish I took photos, but it looked so good I dived in & totally forgot half way through. We ordered a kids Mac & Cheese for my son & it was DELICIOUS. He refused to eat it because it wasn't kraft Mac & Cheese lol but he enjoyed his French fries. My husband and I ordered the Mac & Cheese bites for an appetizer 10/10! We also got a loaded baked potato with brisket. WOW is all I have to say. The brisket was Caramelized & they weren't shy about giving you meat. So damn good! I ordered the Philly cheese Steak with a side of Au Jus with coleslaw. Best Philly Cheese Steak I've ever had. Hands down. Definitely going back! read more

I'm from Houston Texas where brisquet is the national food. The brisquet at the Hickory is far better than anything I've had in Texas. We're talking about the salt lick and all the holes in the wall in Austin TX. I can't believe how incredibly amazing this restaurant is. I've come here several times now and can't get enough. Ribs. Chicken, Turkey, and shakes that are smooth as silk. This is a must stop on your way to yellowstone or just an evening out for the family. read more

The sweet potato fries with the songs as well as their ribs really do fall off the bone

We ordered the fish & chips. Waitress left us with our drinks, & entertained herself with designing the board introducing special of the day. After 25 min. Our waitress returned to inform us that we have a new cook, he made a mistake & cooked chicken strips instead of fish, so it would be a little while longer...& it was. At last our fish & raw chips arrived. Yes, raw, white fries...still cold in the middle just the way nobody likes them. Our waitress never returned to check on us until she brought our bill, but on the other hand the board was well decorated. read more

My experience at the Hickory was amazing! Our server was Emilee and she treated us with so much kindness and made our meal very memorable. She is also very cute! read more

The Hickory website says they strive to have the best service in town and this could not be more true! Not only were they eager to serve us even though we walked in right before closing time, but then went above and beyond to give us a great experience while we were there. My husband kept joking with our effervescent young waitress about wanting a beer, which of course is not available in Rexburg. She went to the kitchen and then, like a mad scientist, created a specialty soda concoction that looked just like the real thing with a label attached that read "BEER", and we all had a good laugh! To top it off the BBQ we ordered was top notch! We will be back again and again! read more

Really yummy! We had to wait for a while for the food, longer than I thought but when it came out it was so yummy! If you like bbq it's a must! read more

We love The Hickory. The menu has a ton of variety. We especially love the ribeyes with their special seasoning. Great food with a great ambience read more

My husband and I were kinda bummed when their menu dropped a lot of our favorite meals, as well as the prices going up, but it's still one of the better places in Rexburg. It can be really crowded so check times before you go on google and expect to spend more money than in other places, but you do get a good amount of food for what you pay. read more

The only thing you can count on here is inconsistency! Been several times over the years and have yet to have an order correct. Every once in a while the food tastes really good and that is what keeps us trying. There is no consistency on quality or what actually ends up served. Maybe that should be how they market themselves. "Order what you 'think' you want and we'll decide what you actually get." If you like to gamble with your money and time, this is the place for you. If not I would recommend that you find somewhere else. read more

Food is pretty good, but the service is not the best. It takes FOREVER for the food to come out and we had burgers. The onion rings were not good but the sweet potato fries were excellent. I had the brisky business burger and it was great. Food seems to be hit or miss with some meals being excellent and others pretty poor. Not sure that I'll go again, but this is more to do with the service than the food. read more

Absolutely love this place. When visitors come into town, this is one of the few places in Rexburg I'm not embarrassed to take them. Servers are always happy and prompt, food portions are large, great selection, and about what you'd expect as far as price goes. Sometimes they get a little slow around lunch time, but what restaurant doesn't? I love the giant jars that they use as glasses. At most restaurants, I'm waiting on my drink to be refilled. Here, you never need more than one. read more

The Mac n Cheese is so good that you can almost eat it as the entree!!! The staff were helpful and friendly!!! The 1/2 pound burger with brisket was awesome as well!!! I will be back!!! Thank you!!!! read more

We love The Hickory! The food is tasty, the staff is super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is fun. We usually get the pulled pork sandwiches which we highly recommend. The strawberry lemonade is awesome. The fries are fantastic and the coleslaw is as good as homemade. The mac and cheese is dry but still tasty, just not creamy at all. This last week I ordered the prime rib. Great flavor, but it was dry even though I ordered medium-rare. There was a lot of fat that I easily just cut off, but for some reason, the meat was still on the dry side. The au jus fixed that. The flavor was really fantastic. The Hickory is definitely one of our favorite places to eat in Rexburg and my whole family highly recommends it. read more

Darn. We were looking forward to a nice experience with our family. Plenty of table space yet to took a very very long time to get seated. Poorly trained staff and not enough staff. Sandwich was very dry (turkey). THe bbq sandwich was watered down and the full rack of baby back ribs was dry. Not one server could manage a smile. They were overwhelmed and again UNDER trained We did have a bbq pizza appetizer and it was tasty. Probably because we were so hungry. The food took a very long time to arrive and it was pretty much slapped on the table and the staff hit the road. Sad experience. . read more

Wow!!!! Is the first word that comes to mind. Loved everything that came to the table. The ribs are perfection.

What has happened? I've been eating at The Hickory for years. I mean YEARS and it was always our go-to date night. A few months ago, we got a bad meal there but decided that it was a fluke and tonight we tried it again. My hamburger was so well-done that the meat was extremely dry and charred. It was just disgusting but of course, I didn't ask them to redo it because I don't like to cause problems. And the new soggy steak fries do not help! Remember when the Hickory served the amazing hot and fresh hand-cut fries in a basket? Sigh. Me too. There has been a big decline in quality recently and I think it's so sad. The service was OK, but my biggest disappointment was the nasty burger and the soggy fries. read more

Been coming to The Hickory since they opened and for the most part I've been quite happy with my experiences. However, on my first visit to their new location I had three negative experiences. The first is that a "new policy" has them bring the fries of your meal out as an appetizer so they're fresh. This had me scratching my head, but whatever. The next is that a bottle of jalapeño ranch exploded because the lid wasn't securely on. Literally Ranch all over my arms, shirt, pants, the table, and even the floor behind me. Without so much as an apology the waitress laughed and said that it happens at least once a day. Finally, after all this we asked to speak with the manager. We were told, "the owner is too busy to come over, but you'll get some extra fries when your burger comes out." Then we proceeded to see the manager walking around picking up stray straw wrappers. I hope they change the weird fry policy and I hope the manager realizes that 90 seconds with a slightly upset customer is worth the the time spent. Definitely not my best restaurant experience, but it might be my worst. At least the food was good. Ending note: by the time I finished writing the my waitress informed us that the fry policy is now dead. That didn't take long and it earned back a star. read more

Great food. Great service. Not too expensive but not inexpensive either. Great date spot.

I've eaten here nearly 20 times while living here in Rexburg, both at their old location and current location. The best thing they had going for them was their Cheerwine soda, but they haven't offered this for some time now. I usually go here when friends push for it, but I don't get the hype. The meat is typically overcooked/dry, the mac and cheese is nearly flavorless, and the only things that I'd order again are fried. The intern meal is a good deal, so I usually go with that. The barbecue is pretty subpar for a restaurant named "The Hickory." If you're looking for good barbecue in Rexburg I would recommend Blisters over The Hickory any day. read more

Service was excellent. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Food was good. We had a couple hiccups with our order but the waitress resolved them quickly. The homemade fries are great and the combinations you can get in a burger is made them really tasty. read more

We are truly disappointed. We ordered the brisket and it came out more like ribs. Meaning, there was more fat than meat. I saw that the brisket received rave reviews, but I will never order it from here again. I will post the strips of fat that I had to cut off of the pieces they gave me. My husband had to cut all the fat off of his too. The burgers my kids ordered looked great, as did the pulled chicken and pulled pork. As soon as the cook finds a good supplier for their meat, then maybe I will try the brisket again. But until then, no way. read more

It was good. We came for the burgers and got the honey badger. It came with pastrami and pulled pork on top. It was good but seemed a little too sweet for a burger. Mac and cheese was plain and bland. We loved our waitress though. It seemed a little too overpriced for what we got. But overall the service is what made it good. read more

This was my first time eating here. Overall the staff was friendly and the food was quite good. However, had the ribeye and it just didn't have the seasonings that I was expecting ‍. If I could go back and do it over again I would order a burger, they looked delicious and were decently priced! All in all if you are passing through Rexburg and you want to go to a sit down restaurant rather than fast food I would recommend this place. read more

Had it tonight!! It was our servers first night and she was totally sweet. I had the quarter pounder which was really nicely done. The sweet potato fries are really good! And their fries in general are yum. I think that the food is really good for the price. The desserts are really good but some are for the extreme sweet tooth. Cute tho! read more
