We are truly disappointed. We ordered the brisket and it came out more like ribs. Meaning, there was more fat than meat. I saw that the brisket received rave reviews, but I will never order it from here again. I will post the strips of fat that I had to cut off of the pieces they gave me. My husband had to cut all the fat off of his too. The burgers my kids ordered looked great, as did the pulled chicken and pulled pork. Food took a good 25 minutes to get to us from when we ordered it. Burger came out way over cooked and fries were cold. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, but there food just sucked! We complained about the fries and were hit with a nice, "I'm sorry we're just really busy". Good restaurant overall. We've been going here since it opened. We've had more good experiences than bad ones, fortunately. But once in a while we leave feeling disappointed with the service and preparation of the food. However, recently we've been having really good experiences! They seem to have upped their game in the last few months specifically. I love Grandma Rosie's Mac and cheese. It's a nice comfort food for when I'm not feeling up to cooking any for myself! If I could rate less, I would. This is based on two separate visits: One in the old location and one in the current location. Each as bad as the other. From the first visit: There is an old Army cadence that goes, "A biscuit rolled off the table and killed a friend of mine!" The hyperbole is only in the army's marching cadence, as the biscuits that night could have been lethal for their rock-like texture. Inedible. From the second visit: I ordered Fish and Chips. Frying oil, with a side of shoe string fry strips and over-done indigestion inducing fish chew toys. My brother ordered the fajita wrap, and once again the over indulgence in oil/grease was copiously present. Summary: If you have a great dental plan and absolutely no regard for your cardiovascular/liver health, good news! The Hickory is the place for you! If gallstones and clogged arteries don't factor well with your life plan, maybe go grab a tuna packet from the supermarket across the street. You'll save money, and enjoy it more. Expect to wait for a table. We have been there a number of times, and usually go for the brisket. Usually it's fantastic, and other times is just okay. Great food and atmosphere. it seems like everything on the menu is good. I've been here a few times. I had the blue cheese burger the first time and tree big S burger the last time. the food is great, I tasted my wife's pulled pork and wished I got that instead. our waiter was great. it did take a lobg time to get our food and didn't appreciate tgw extra $2 to upgrade to 4 onion rings on a $10.50 meal that came with fries. another member of our dinner party upgraded to the wedge fries for $2 also, and received half the portion of his wife's fries that were included in her meal. overall a great place to eat. but I won't be getting the onion rings or wedge fries again. read more

Came here with a group for my sisters birthday tonight. Every one was so friendly and nice from the moment we walked in. The food itself was pretty dang good and was priced fairly for how much you got. The lemonades as well as their huckleberry cheesecake are amazing! Everyone at the table loved what they got! The thing that really made the whole night extra great was our waiter!! I wish I could remember his name so I could give him credit (it might have been TJ but I could seriously be making that up in my head). He was amazing though! He made sure everyone's drinks were full, their food was perfect, and he just had a great personality all around! He even brought me a spoon for the strawberries in my drink just because! We have given a good faith effort to support our local restaurant but the experience here has not been good. The length of time to receive food is poor or when the the food arrives it is poorly prepared. We have tried 3 times, the average wait time once an order has been placed is 40 minutes with the longest time being just over an hour. This past time the baked potato was served under some (still raw in the middle). About 20 minutes into the experience the lights in our section of the restaurant went out, they were unable to get them back on, the restaurant was not overly busy and when we asked about relocating the response was we are unable to move you. So we attempted to eat by phone light. I do not encourage you to eat here. read more

This was my second time eating here. Decided to give them a second chance after lackluster service on our first visit. I now regret that decision. The restaurant was very busy most likely because it was back-to-school weekend. However, the start of school is nothing new for Rexburg and shouldn't be for this restaurant either. The ribs had more fat than meat, the trout had no seasoning, the turkey was dry, and the mac & cheese was curdled! We didn't get any biscuits. When asked, our server said they were out. However, a table of 10 who was seated after us received biscuits with their meals. Our server said she would comp one of our drinks but didn't do so until we asked about it after we got our check. I am usually not the type to complain about little things like this, but this set me over the edge. I got a shake, blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream. I got the small size, but got it in this little cup. When I asked about the size, I was told it was the correct size even though it was only 8 oz. I paid $7.41 for this little cup. I don't understand why this place hasn't gotten better reviews. We hit it directly after the eclipse and they were slammed. All things considered, we were very pleased. The chili was extremely salty. The sandwich was acceptable and the fries were tolerable. They came out colder and mushier than normal. The sweet potatoes fries were 2 dollars extra and lemonades almost 4 dollars which kind of killed the experience. Just not worth it especially since it took so long to get our food. It was just my friend and I and a couple of other small tables. Nevertheless, it still took 45 min to get our food once it was ordered. Disappointing is all I can say. I was looking forward to a nice steak dinner, something hard to come by in Rexburg. To be fair the New York Strip was cooked to a nice medium rare. It was seasoned well...now if only it, and the rest of the meal, had not been stone cold...if we hadn't had to wait over an hour for it....if the appetizer would have come out BEFORE the meal and had it been hot...To say I was underwhelmed would be a big understatement.
