Breakfast review! So happy we found this spot. A lot of the places making our way down from West Yellowstone were closed. The lady that sat us and took our order was very nice and had great customer service. Started out with drinks, coffee was solid. We ordered; breakfast platter, Denver omelette, French toast plate, and an order of single pancake and extra bacon. I personally had the French toast plate. It was pretty good, but definitely needed to add syrup. I usually have more of a cinnamoney French toast. The biscuit that came with the Denver omelette was delicious. Had a lot of space and actually pretty good for large parties. Bathrooms are super clean and they have baby changing station. read more

This latest "benefit of the doubt" moment was their worst yet. California counts votes faster, the waitress screwed up the order, and, when the order got corrected, half the food was inedible. No apology, no decent explanation, no tip. Until next year (not), we'll avoid this dive like an empty pool. read more

The good news was that this place was open and they serve food. The bad news is that they were open and they serve food. First off, the place is not very inviting, everything is painted bright white, the walls are covered with animal heads and fish, as a hunter I don't have a problem with that but it's just weird. Now to the food, my wife's enchilada was probably out of a box and came out cold, it was also covered in a strange brown gravy type sauce. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, it was ok. Basically something I would have cooked back in my college days at 2am after a night at the bar. The bun was probably from a bag of Wonder buns, it had a single tomato and was drenched in Franks hot sauce. The upside of the entire experience was that the tortilla chips were probably homemade and hot, however the salsa came in a tiny bowl with hardly any salsa. I will say that the server was nice but that's about it. Ashton has very limited options and this location is perfect but it's so bad would not recommend. read more

I feel bad saying this, but this meal was one of the worst my family has had. To the point where we have compared it to anything wrong on this trip, and the meal still ranks worse. It's now a running joke in my family... I'll start with the good - the waitress was friendly and trying her best although her letting us know some things when we ordered would have pushed us to different choices, which may have made the experience better. I was really looking for steak, and they had an 8 ounce ribeye on the menu for $22. I told the waitress that I wanted it medium rare and more on the rare side if possible. She made no comment to that. The steak came out and it was no more than a half inch thick and a good quarter of it was fat & gristle. I have seen the same steak sold at the dollar tree store for - a dollar. It was cooked well done, as only a steak that thin could be cooked. When I asked about the doneness of the steak, the waitress told me that the chef believes that eating rare meat is not healthy for you. I kid you not... I managed to get through the well done piece of meat by cutting off all the fat and gristle and drowning it in A1 sauce. A comment from the waitress when I ordered that the meat could not be cooked anything other than well done would have been helpful for me to make a different choice on the menu. The salad it came with had old browning lettuce and dry cucumbers. Next, my son had the carne asada. The meat was very dry. It was advertised on the menu as coming with guacamole. When it arrived with none, my son asked the waitress and was told that they have not had guacamole for a while now, but just haven't taken it off the menu. Again, a note about that when we were ordering would've made a difference as we could've chosen something else. My husband had a burrito and the sauce over the top tasted like brown gravy with some taco seasoning added. It was pretty gross. My daughter had tacos with just beef and cheese. Hard to screw that up, and they managed not to. We would definitely not be back, although it seems options are limited in this area. At least we will have something to chuckle about with our first Yellowstone vacation meal. read more

Very friendly waitress, the french toast was really good. Soft and cooked well. The sausage patty was crisp on the outside but soft inside, had a nice seasoning to it. Stopped in for breakfast - said they were ending breakfast service as they only had one hash brown left and was almost out of bacon. You walk in and no hostess station just tables which a fair amount was dirty with dishes still on them. Had to walk to the far back before running into One waitress and one cook. Did not feel welcoming. Friends had said this was where they stopped when they traveled through so we stopped - however we didn't eat and ended up leaving. read more

Amazing service even though they were short staffed and very busy. The server's "Spidey senses" were tingling that we needed more coffee as he made sure our mugs were never empty. We ordered 3 steak and 1 order of finger steaks. The finger steaks were over cooked, very crunchy and dry 1 steak was ordered as just seared on each side. They did not have a clue how to do that. The steak came medium well Next 2 steaks were ordered as medium rare. They came out medium well done. Salads came with the meals. We got 3 things of just lettuce. And then was stomach sick with the runs that night. When I called all I got was Sorry. Stopped here for breakfast before hubby went fishing. We were welcomed and seated right away. Good customer service and the food was good. The biscuits and gravy were flavorful and my egg was good just right. They serve a good cup of coffee too. After fishing, it was lunchtime so we came back (not a lot of choices in town)! Staying in Ashton for 4 nights as we explore Yellowstone. There seems to be 2 main restaurants in town. El Rincon and Trails Inn. By far Trails Inn has the more modern, clean, and welcoming dining room. Went for breakfast. Friendly waitress. Recommended the Country (chicken) Fried Steak. This is my breakfast go to anyway and I always like to try elsewhere. I found it bland, under seasoned, and over cooked. Geared toward the older white american so less salt, less pepper, less cream, less butter, etc. I would suggest you to try another item if you are looking for well seasoned, crispy, juicy, well smoothered, fried steak. read more

Local town meeting of 10-12 unofficially designated Idaho working men resolve issues ranging from the new highway around the town, the 1893 game warden's mileage reimbursement, to Dave the jackass who keeps his gun in his saddle bag! I just had a Denver omelette that was cold ( like the contents were just out of the refrigerator with unmelted cheese), and the WORST hash browns I've ever had in my life (some tasteless mush on the side of the plate). This is, in my opinion, the best full service restaurant between West Yellowstone and Rexburg. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Typical American Food. All the traditional breakfast options. They have an excellent variety of sandwich options for lunch in addition to burgers, soup, and salad. These are also available at dinner in addition to their dinner menu. The sides are excellent and include an awesome twice baked potato. They serve Coke products. The restaurant is spacious and has both quiet spots for a couple as well as tables for large groups. The local owners have really done a great job. The prices are really affordable. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

We had breakfast there three times when we were visiting Yellowstone. Excellent food, excellent coffee, very friendly service! We had the chicken fried steak and eggs, the fried pork and eggs, pancakes and bacon and eggs, French toast and sausage and eggs, biscuits and gravy and eggs. Everything was delicious! It is a very relaxing environment, so plan on spending a little time there, at least 30 minutes or so. We also enjoyed the ambience. Clean bathrooms too. read more

We brought 26 people to eat here after our son's wedding (yes, we called in advance to let them know our plans). Everything was awesome a d beyond our expectations! The staff was incredibly accommodating and attentive. The food was not only delicious but served so quickly I was amazed - with that size group, you typically plan to wait for a while. I don't know anywhere better for twice-baked potatoes...and the fries...oh my goodness...they are heavenly!!! The chicken fried steak is plate sized and thick and, again, so tasty! The Husky Burger was a favorite and there's nothing petite about the petite steak. The daily special of ribeye was another mouthwatering fan favorite! To top it off, the cheesecake was a delightful and flavorsome way to finish the meal. The bride's grandfather let me know that of all the wedding dinners he's been to, this was the most delicious! Then the owners went even more above & beyond and presented the happy couple with a gift card to come back for another visit. I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Trails Inn. I'm sure most people wouldn't think of this gem as a wedding feast spot, but I know 26 people who would recommend it for exactly that! Bravo Trails Inn! read more

My husband and I stopped here in the morning on our way to West Yellowstone. We were really craving a good, hearty breakfast. Trails Inn seemed to be the most convenient and timely option for us, so we gave it a shot. Immediately upon entry we were greeted by a bustling and friendly waitress who wasted no second to make sure to say hello and get seated. The restaurant's interior matched the surrounding wilderness' exterior with a rustic, bright, clean, inviting and nostalgic aesthetic. When we sat, we were given a two glasses of water, pitcher, and asked if we'd like coffee. The service was cheery and quick! Top kudos to the staff. The menu had an appropriate array of options much of which you'd expect from a diner out West. We kept our eyes on breakfast; ultimately I went with the steak and eggs. We didn't wait long for our food and when the waitress set my food down at the table my eyes widen and a verbal exclamation of Whoa! escaped my mind to my mouth. My 6-foot husband outstretched his palm next to my small continent sized steak for comparison. Wowza! Big Sky, Big Steak I suppose. Unfortunately, this is where the highs became lows. Despite the amazing service, memorable ambiance and stunning proportion sizes, the food itself was really awful. I first decided to satiate my inner carnivore and tear apart the small cow on my plate, but it was like cutting through rope and cord. Fatty, chewy, and bland this steak took a couple minutes just to carve out a first bit. After a few more attempts just to make some headway with my steak, I moved onto to my second plate with some hope and optimism. Nope. The toast was dry and cold. Something akin more toward to a cracker. The hashbrowns tasted like they were out of a frozen food aisle bag and haphazardly heated in a microwave. The eggs were alright, nothing special but no complaints.m--certainly nothing of redemptive quality. Between the two of us, our meal was around $40, including the 10% surcharge for the coronavirus. We were very satisfied with everything expect the food, which is the main staple needed for all day sustainability. Overall, I wouldn't call this place a regret but certainly wouldn't stop for breakfast again. They also had a dinner menu, which perhaps is their bread-and-butter. read more

We went for breakfast, and the portions were enormous! Snappy service, rustic atmosphere, more than reasonable prices. Main highlight was the "side" cinnamon roll. It's as big as the dinner plate. Soft, hot, with cream cheese icing gushing down the sides and out the middle. Absolutely incredible. Also notable was the chicken fried steak. Very tasty, plenty of sausage gravy on top. But be warned---the steak is bigger than the plate, as big as the state of Idaho. Easily shareable. I'll be coming back soon for another one of those cinnamon rolls! read more

Not even worthy of one star, it was a mess from start to finish. The coffee was cold, the food was cold and just was not good. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which is supposed to come with two eggs, hashbrowns and your choice of breakfast meat. I ordered scrambled eggs with my meal and they were overcooked and brown, so I sent them back. As a replacement, I asked for sunnyside up. They brought back only one egg, but I let it go. When I went to pay, my total was 19 and some change. I questioned that since the special was 10.99, plus I ordered a coffee as well. They wouldn't give me a receipt, but rang it up again to show me the cost. Well, that total came up to $14.14, so I questioned why I just paid over 19 dollars. Turns out that I was charged extra for the egg that was supposed to be part of the special and God only knows what else I was charged for since NO RECEIPT. Finally got my money back, and it just seemed like they were not happy about having to do so even though they were at fault. That's what happens when you have a child waiting tables. I kid you not, he couldn't have been more than 12-13 years old. Pretty sure that shouldn't be happening. Big disappointment. read more
