The appetizer was delivered with the meal. My wife's request for water was repeated. Around here, the lack of service folks is normal , some places do with it better than others. I suspect, with ongoing inflation , keeping labor costs low is a need. Would I go again? Probably yes ,but it may be a while. Oh yeah, and you can have a conversation without a lot of shouting. If they can get the service act together a fourth star might be possible.

We also are fans of the Detroit style pizza we were first introduced to at Whitman Brewing in Saratoga. Korner Bar & Grill is closer to our home, and it would be more convenient if their pizza was equally as good. Arriving on a Saturday around 6 PM it was apparent that they are already popular after being open for only about one week. None of the tables were available and only 4 seats at the very long bar were vacant. We chose two bar seats that were the furthest from the dining room where a fellow was entertaining with his guitar and singing. These seats were close to the entrance with an occasional cold draft as people arrived and left. We chose these seats because the noise level was unbearable everywhere else. I actually turned my hearing aids off to tolerate the noise level. Our server at the bar was friendly and welcoming. She quickly served us water and provided us with a "cheat sheet" of the available beverages. There is no written food menu. Numerous QR code cards are posted asking you to use your phone to read the food menu. A soda ($3.50) for my wife and a 20 oz. draft Modelo ($7.50) for me were quickly served. Most impressive was how quickly the kitchen served our apps. 5 minutes! Yes, FIVE MINUTES! Crinkle Cut Fries ($6) and Uber Cheese Stixs ($13). I've never had fries from Nathans so I can't attest whether these compare fairly as implied by the menu. But I grew up on crinkle cut fries that my Mom made, and hers were better. My wife thought that many of these fries seemed like they were dehydrated. The menu says that the Uber Cheese Stixs are house made with 5 types of cheeses and a corn flake breading. The breading was nice and crispy and the cheese inside was soft to almost runny. The best part IMO was the melba sauce. Our two 8-inch square (6 pieces each) pizzas were delivered in a very reasonable 15 minutes. My wife went with the weekly special Shrimp Scampi ($17). I choose the basic cheese pizza with San Marzano tomatoes ($12) and added three toppings (sausage, mushrooms, & peppers) for $7 more. Both of our pizzas were flavorful and were actually more flavorful the second day - although less crispy, of course. Just like I've never been to Nathans for fries, I've never had pizza in Detroit. If I'm comparing Detroit Style pizza in Colonie with Detroit Style pizza in Saratoga Springs, I would prefer Saratoga. While KB&G has an airy dough, I think Whitman's is slightly lighter and airier. Both have nice crispy cheese edges, but KB&G edge is oilier. Somebody let me know what days/times are the slowest. I'd like to return.

We did not, but she said that was fine. We were seated in the back which was pretty dimly lit. Ambiance. I usually gauge a pie's taste by a plain pie, but I saw they had cupped pepperoni so we had to order a pepperoni pie because I don't know of any other place near us that has cupped pepperoni. We also got the meatballs for an appetizer. For drinks, plain water. Extra water was brought to us in a bottle that was chilled... no ice. Very nice touch. More water that way. The water tasted really clean too. Special mention needs to go to the bartender/waitress who held down the fort all by herself maintaining the bar area and serving out the food to table customers as they were coming out. One group came after us and then another group of six were seated across from us. I don't know about the first group, but the group of six had reservations. We got the meatballs, which come with three as an appetizer. We each took one and my wife asked me, "So, what do you think?" I thought there were really good meatballs. A lot of times they're really dense and the meat tastes weird. These were soft, moist, and very flavorful. We even were eating the sauce out of the bowl afterwards. Really good sauce, full of tomato chunks, not sweet, and not acidy either. It was just perfectly tasty. The group of six with reservations, who got seated AFTER us, got their pizza first. I told my wife that it pays to have reservations. We were cool with that. We know for next time. We got our pie soon afterwards and had to take pictures. It did look really good. The pepperonis were about the size of nickels, perfectly cupped. The crust had the char that I always look for. This looked really promising. We both grabbed a slice, folded it and took a bite of heaven. The bottom crust is thin and crunchy. The sauce and cheese tasted fresh and not plasticky like some cheeses can be. The pepperonis added a nice flavor kick to everything else going on. I then went for the gold. My teeth sank into crust the crunch reverberating throughout my skull. Wow!!! This crust was light, airy, and crunchy. This pie was firing nitro on all cylinders!!! I was so blown away. Even my wife said, "I never saw you enjoy a pizza so much. It was like you were back in NYC." If that isn't an endorsement for Marisa's, I don't know what is. We took half the pie home because I wanted to same some for tomorrow's lunch. We finished the meal with a shared slice of NY Cheesecake. Not as creamy as NJ Diner cheesecake, but definitely hit the marks for a good NY Cheesecake.
