The spot has a fantastic mountain retreat vibe,rustic yet inviting, with a great outdoor bar and a charming town setting that makes you want to linger. The coffee bar is a standout: huge selection, top-notch equipment, and a steady stream of locals grabbing coffees, smoothies, and pastries. The pastries looked incredible (though I didn't try one myself), and my wife raved about her coffee,it was fantastic. I'd happily return just for those. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the ambiance. My hamburger and my wife's patty melt both had fresh veggies, soft bread, and surprisingly flavorful meat, but the patties were overcooked and extremely dry. Neither the burger bun nor the patty melt bread was toasted (not even lightly), which made a big difference especially for a patty melt, where that grilled texture is key. A little toasting would go a long way toward improving things. Overall, this place shines as a coffee and pastry spot (clearly what most people come for). For a full meal, it needs some tweaks. I'd go back for coffee/pastries, but probably not for burgers right now unless I customize my order. Service was very friendly however it took longer than expected. I was in the area for a wedding and stopped by this café for breakfast. It's a small, cozy spot located at the Miner Camp, just a 2-minute walk from our campsite. I ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, and added pancakes for an extra $4. Everything was tasty and hit the spot. So glad we stopped I had an amazing PB Mocha , the country breakfast burrito was HUGE and split it and still couldn't finish. My friends and I were in town for a wedding and stayed in Foresthill. We weren't sure where to go for breakfast and came across The Happy Mouth. We were so glad to come in here! The vibe is definitely welcoming and casual - which is exactly what we were looking for. We each got to peruse the menu, which was pretty extensive, and everyone found something they liked. Most of us opted for breakfast but a couple people in our group wanted more lunch. The food and beverages we ordered came out quick and the servings were hearty! Great place to grab breakfast or lunch... just don't expect fast service. The Happy Mouth is the former "Mega's Cafe" and I have been going here for years. Ownership changed around mid August 2024. So, if you've visited prior to this- I suggest you check them out again! I think they kept most of the good and improved the things that needed improvement. A majority of the menu is the same, with some items added and some removed. For example, there used to be a "smothered" breakfast burrito that is no longer on the menu. They have expanded the drink selections significantly and have a bunch of different "Red Bull Infused" drinks. I've heard these are very good... but energy drinks aren't my thing anymore. This is definitely still a small town place. You walk in and you can smell the food cooking because the ventilation has never been very good. You'll smell like the food after you visit even if you get your order to go. Depending on what you order, expect to wait 10-20 minutes for your food. They don't do fast food, they do good food as fast as they can. I think the old owners used to have this posted. Overall, serving times have definitely improved. When I would visit the place before the new owners, there would be times I'd have to wait over 40 minutes! I've since been a few times and it's never taken over 20. They also used to serve everything in styrofoam containers (even if you didn't order to go) which I always through was weird and uneconomical. They now will serve food in trays and sometimes paper plates. They now use clear plastic containers for to go orders. I think it's a better option than styrofoam. The place really is very good! My go-to is always the country breakfast burrito. It has all the breakfast meats along with cheese, potatoes, and gravy. It's served with salsa (probably Pace or something similar) and sour cream. It is HUGE and for $12 also a great value. I've never been able to eat the whole thing so I usually just eat half and save the other half for the next day. It's very tasty and I think they switched the potatoes because the last one I got I noticed had red skinned potatoes... which made it even better. Do yourself a favor and try this burrito if you haven't... I'm sure you'll enjoy. I will also get a burger occasionally. I like the Wildfire Spicy burger because it comes with green chilis and spicy mayo. The burger is always cooked medium well and is very juicy (never dry), even though I believe the patties are previously frozen. I do like the new potato buns they use opposed to the old sesame buns when it was Mega's that were somewhat dry. I ordered with potato salad which was ok. The baked goods are all phenomenal. They are made from scratch and always fresh. Thank you Happy Mouth for having good food at a decent price! You definitely make my mouth (and my wallet) happy! read more

Service at counter was not friendly. The difference in how they treated us and the kindness and friendly they show to obvious "regulars" was pronounced. The oatmeal ordered was cold, dry on top and a congealed mass below that. The coffee was good but I added non dairy creamer to the coffee that curdled and ruined the coffee. When I brought that to the attention of the counter there was no ownership or apology but they did make me a new coffee at my request. scrable eggs were not whipped with whites clearly showing apart from the yolks. I come up to foresthill all the time, I was surprised to see an espresso shop up there. I can't speak on the food because I haven't ate there. But the coffee is really good. Mind you this is a small town and usually only one person working so be patient and mindful when going in. I hope things pick up for them it's a great spot. read more

My wife and I stopped at The Happy Mouth as we passed through Foresthill on our way to the mountains. We are glad we did! The young ladies who served us were pleasant, friendly, and very helpful. The interior is quite cute but the food and coffee drinks are awful. The Spanish omelette looked like it was deep fried. The capuchino was the worst I have ever had, pretty much just a cup of hot milk, no foam, and the sweetened vanilla flavored almond milk made this undrinkable, I threw it away. Not sure about some of the cranky pants reviews on here, but I thought this little place was really good. The breakfast burrito I had was enormous and full of savory morsels. Half was plenty and I took the rest home for another meal. The pricing was reasonable, the iced tea fresh and the service at the front counter was quick and friendly. As far as them asking you to shut the door behind you...if that irritates you then make your way back down the hill to the concrete jungle. Small town businesses might not be your thing. read more

Update. 2-28-24 Figured we would try again ( bad idea) The food has gotten progressively worse and they are more exspensive. Avocado toast was ordered.... And the avocado used is canned guacamole spread‍ Patrick is not there but another lady. The employees are extremely friendly. I believe the problems with this place come from the owners/management. Guacamole spread is the cheapest possible thing you could have put to make avocado toast. Needless to say they are skimping and charging more. On the way back from getting our Christmas tree my parents saw a sign for this place that said "Breakfast all day, everyday" which is a complete lie. We walk in and we get rude looks and they said "we close at 2, (it was 1:55) which we did not know that being that the door was unlocked and there was no sign posted with the hours. The lady at the register asked the cook if we could order and he said "they have 4 minutes to do it." We were already feeling the pressure but decided to give it a try since my 4 year old was hungry. We quickly ordered, 2 breakfast burritos, a patty melt, and BLT. The cook then said "what the f*** is this" being that we ordered 4 items. We sat down and waited about 15 minutes for the food and once we got it we were disappointed. The BLT came with no fries, nothing. Just the sand which for $10, the patty melt was almost too burnt to eat and was small for again $10! The only good things were the breakfast burritos because they were large so it felt like I was getting more bang for my buck. Overall the food was bearable it was the rude customer service that we had. Another group left and the girl from the register was on her phone walking over to clean it and was telling whoever on the phone that "these people left a big ass mess." Wonderful customer service and yummy food. We stopped in here with a fairly large & very hungry group after a wedding rehearsal. There is a wide selection of made to order coffee and tea as well as a variety of breakfast, salad, and sandwich options. I selected the berry tea (iced) and the mandarin salad with hopes to beat the heat! The mandarin salad: romain greens with feta, red onion, mandarins, grilled chicken and a poppyseed dressing. It was VERY good and super refreshing. My total for the iced tea and salad with added chicken was $12- very reasonable. The staff was really sweet and everything was made to order. Here's my beef: I ordered a half dozen breakfast sandwiches to take back to a bridal party as they were getting ready that morning. When I asked to have them cut in half the counter girl said there was a $1.50 split charge per sandwich. I said "no, that charge would be expected if I wanted double plates / takeout containers, etc. I just want a knife pressed through the sandwich." She went back and talked to the owner who confirmed YES, he was going to charge me an extra $9 to cut the croissants in half! WOW. Way to run a business there, buddy. I was craving breakfast but I wanted to wait til the crowds had died down since it was a Saturday. I strolled in there at 1pm (Their hours online say they close at 2pm). I noticed their open sign wasn't on but their door was unlocked. When I went inside, they said they were closed early for deep cleaning. If you're going to do that, then lock your door and post a sign, preferably one that's customer service oriented and friendly. According to locals I spoke to, this cafe does this frequently. Then you should really change your hours. Crummy customer service to do that! Apparently you people want to lose business. That's okay I can probably make a better breakfast then they can anyway. I went here this past weekend, the weekend of Western states. The event kind of overwhelms the town. I was excited there was somewhere I could get something decent to eat. Yes the line was long, but all the staff I encountered were pleasant. Everyone was doing their best. While I waited at sat at a table near the kitchen, the kitchen is tiny and the two people in there were working their butts off. they also had indoor plumbing which was a huge bonus, after a long day it was nice to wash your hands and not just use Purel. The customer's also could have been considerate to make things go faster. If you are ordering for a group, for pete's sake use one card to pay and don't break it up into multiple transactions. My group was happy with their food. My suggestion to the cafe owners would be to pair down the menu, just have a few selections during the Western States weekend, and make it items that are easy to prepare so you can get the items out faster. I also appreciated the fact they weren't price gouging and their green iced tea was delicous. read more

This cafe is the perfect lunch stop. The staff are very friendly, and the food is amazing. I ordered the Ciabatta Pesto Chicken sandwich. The sandwich is served hot. The pesto mayo was out of this world. I'm not a huge mayo person, and this stuff tastes nothing like it. To me it just tasted like normal pesto sauce. The chicken was good, and the cheese was gooey and yummy. The best part though is the Ciabatta bread. It was hot, soft, and tasted so good. The women running the café were super sweet. This café is also where we learned about Hell Hole reservoir, so if you're interested in going on an adventure, I would check that out as well. read more

The country breakfast burrito is great, it used to be 7.50 which was worth the price, however they have raised their prices and I think the burrito is 9.50 now.. still not bad because they usually make it pretty big and taste great.. the smoothies aren't worth the price they're like 5 bucks and it's just syrup and blended ice.. they could at least blend up some frozen fruit.. Definitely need to hire somebody to clean and decorate the interior and exterior of the building, not a place you'd like to sit down and eat, it's just plain dusty everywhere.. get it to go! read more
