And on those hot summer days, my wife and I would stop in with our son Jonathan before heading off to watch Lincoln play Nevada City. So, yes... I have a little emotional investment in this place. And, of course, my family gave the milkshakes their official seal of approval--which, in my household, is basically a Michelin star. The menu has plenty of good options, there's outdoor seating, and the staff is genuinely working hard. They're multitasking like their lives depend on it, so every once in a while you may need to repeat your order. But honestly, I'd rather see people working hard and trying to take care of everyone than standing around looking bored. Parking can be a bit challenging, too. Consider it part of the dining experience--your appetizer is finding a parking space. So why only four stars? The wait. We waited about 20 minutes for our food. It wasn't terrible, but when you're hungry enough to start considering whether ketchup packets are technically a meal, 20 minutes feels like a lifetime. That said, the food was really good, the staff was friendly, and there's a genuine sense that people are working hard to make this place successful. Bottom line: Great burgers, excellent milkshakes, a solid menu, friendly people, and a little nostalgia thrown in for free. I'd absolutely recommend giving this place a try. Stopped in, the deli counter is in the back left of the gas station. Everyone at the gas station was friendly btw. That's always assuring, especially as a woman traveling alone. I'm an herbivore. Black bean burger was a solid option but I was in the mood for a sandwich. I asked if I could trouble them for a toasted veggie sandwich. They delivered! I didn't catch the woman's name behind the grill, but she was very willing and accommodating. She didn't slap together a boring "lettuce tomato cheese onion" dry veggie sandwich. She put in some work for me and really doctored it up. Toasted it with cheese how I like, avocado, sautéed veggies, the whole nine! Now ~that~ is a veggie sandwich. I really appreciated it. Now, the son Edward has taken over and the menu has been changed to feature sushi, in little old Georgetown. Edward has been making sushi for years previously at Beerwerks, has now taken that experience to running his own place. We've been there a couple times now, and Edward is great. I've been to Japan a couple times, and I casually said I miss traditional Japanese Nigiri (they put wasabi in the rice). Edward said, I can't make for most people cause it's too much, but if you want it I can make it! NO WAY! I said, can it be on the Georgetown Distillery "secret menu"?? He laughed and said sure, just ask. Emilie wanted a roll, but with soy wrap instead of seaweed. Edward said Hmm...I've never made this particular roll in soy, so I'm not sure how it will come out...but I'm up to the challenge. That's how you do it! He set the expectation level, and she said DO IT! Well...it came out perfectly. I've had miso soup, edemame, several nigiri sushi and Emilie has had the coconut curry and "the" roll. All very good.
