Felt like we were coming over to a family member's house for a meal like we do every Sunday. We ordered the breakfast burrito (eggs were super soft and each bite was evenly distributed between all the fillings), lake Finnon omelette (lots of sweet savory ham), and the fluffiest buttermilk pancake. We also got a warm cup of coffee, refreshing lake Finnon sunrise, and a fried doughnut (doughnut was the perfect amount of sweet and crunch). We also loved the sweet fruits and potatoes which were fried to a nice crisp with soft interior. Place is super clean and quaint. We will definitely stop by every time we are in the area. The service was extremely friendly and you can tell that everyone was excited to make something great. It was a good sandwich but needed some extra crunch, like apple/pear slices if not adding a patty. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and he absolutely loved it. The sauce had an orange tang that worked really well. The French fries were super salty and hot and fresh and we really enjoyed our meal. The views outside were great! Inside was clean but the real views are outside.

It's always refreshing to find a place with both great coffee and even better customer service. If you're passing through the area or live nearby, I definitely recommend stopping in. Calling it a trail is a bit of a stretch. There were a lot of food options, but I just wasn't really feeling any of them. It was all burgers and hotdogs and I think there was a BBQ place. We went inside a pastry shop that looked pretty dang good though. There was a store with a lot of Christmas themed decor and they had frozen chicken pot pies. I would've loved to have brought one home, but unfortunately this was not our last stop of the day and I had no way to keep it cold in the car. I did really enjoy the area where all the vendors were set up. I got the cutest pair of fall leaf earrings for five dollars that were handmade and some really tasty spicy cheese, crunchy corn snack. I wouldn't be opposed to returning, but I'm not in any rush too. Lots of places in Apple Hill to check out.

I have to say that a big part of this review as well was just how hellishly hot the restaurant was, if this is normally what you keep your thermostat to, y'all gotta be trying to really bring the island summer inside... I think I wetted my chair with sweat. But let's talk food, coconut shrimp were fine but just seemed like the normal run of the mill frozen bag, the bummer was the sauce, sauce for coconut shrimp to me should always be orange based, this was straight up a bottle of Mae Ploy Sweet Chili in a ramekin. The Crispy Sweet and Tangy beef, had an good texture but the flavor itself was really boring, again funny enough appeared to have Mae Ploy Sweet Chili dumped on top, it's really easy to make these sauces in house and make them unique. I was not able to taste the tacos, but my fried was NOT a fan, said the sauce was way off of what a fish taco should be and the fish was not blacked, that much was clear. Blackened means black y'all, crank up the heat and lay on the spice. Last thing was the Chicken Karrage, again ok texture, crunchy chicken but also chewy. The bummer was no sauce, whatsoever. Chicken Karrage has a specific sauce you would think it comes with, if not that the something unique. best we could do was the sauce from other our dishes, and soy. Come on again y'all, put some love into your menu. Little Sriracha Aoli would have made us happy there.

So if you like those Raiders of the Lost Ark vibes, then you would like sitting next to the mine for sure. It's roped off but you can hear the water dripping and it is naturally cool. The structure was originally built as a hotel in 1853 and has been well preserved. I ordered their Smith Flat House salad ($10) and the Jambalaya Risotto ($34) which consisted of Cajun-marinated prawns, lobster meat, Andouille sausage, grilled sweet corn with saffron chicken risotto. Definitely had a bit of a kick to it, the risotto was done well. My pet peeve is mushy risotto, it needs to have a slight bite to it which this one had thankfully. Love the fact that this place serves up local wines -- I couldn't recall the wine I had and they do not have their wine menu on their website. If you have the opportunity to visit, I'd recommend a glass of red from Starfield (winery up the road).
