Giving it two stars because the food was at least tasty for what it was. The service and kitchen speed are absolutely atrocious. I don't know what was going on back there, but the servers barely made rounds to our table, didn't even ask us if we wanted coffee, and when we asked one server to check on our food. All she said was "it would be out soon" and we heard that for the next 10 minutes each time we asked. The restaurant itself seemed pretty clean although the bathrooms definitely could use renovation. You can just tell that either they have so much business they don't care much about service or they're just not quite sure how to dial everything in to balance the front of house and kitchen delivery. If I have any specific suggestions to offer: tell your customers upfront about your kitchen wait times. Nobody wants to wait an hour for breakfast food. Make sure to follow up with your customers and ask them if they want anything else to drink besides water it seems like a really easy way to make extra money. read more

Stopped in with my husband and son on Saturday morning and had breakfast. The food was delicious across the board. I ordered half of #43 omelette ( Jalapenos, Mushrooms, Onions & Jack Cheese ) with hash browns, which was perfect, and my son really enjoyed his mini stack of pancakes. My husband is picky about his corned beef hash, but he loved it here. He said they prepared it exactly the way he likes it with his over-easy eggs. The service was excellent, too. Our server was very friendly and made sure to check on us throughout the meal to see if we needed anything else. It's a great local gem in Auburn for a casual breakfast. Highly recommend. read more

Decent Old Time breakfast joint. Vinyl seated booths, wood paneling and a 60's vibe to the menu are kinda charming. Friendly & quick service, served up a Ham and Cheddar omelette and an over eggs breakfast for the little woman. The requested well done hashbrowns were medium at best. This place and the food is older than "old skool". It's a throwback to the early 1960's. I do know, I was 13 years old when the Beatles landed in New York (1964) to play on the Ed Sullivan TV show. Back to this here restaurant. It's funky in a non-threatening way. The vinyl seats in the booths are torn to $#i+. The bath rooms look like they haven't been scrubbed in decades. The wall board above the men's room sink is crumbling. The floor in front of the toilet is sticky with dried urine. Okay you get the picture. The owner and the service staff are welcoming and friendly. The dining room was 3/4 full at 10:30am. Obviously all of them were Auburn locals as the service folks were addressing every one of them by first name. The offerings are all the diner food choices you will find at most places that are also locked into a menu from 60 years ago. My loco moco ($18.95) was merely okay. I spend 8 weeks / year on Kauai and O'ahu. I've eaten 100's of loco moco meals. The one here is did not send me into a rapture. Frankly, it as pretty mediocre. I eat at a lot of mom n' pops restaurants. Expensive ones, cheap ones, trendy ones, urban ones, out in the boonies ones. Have had some amazing meals. Many forgettable ones. I hope to forget my experience here soon. I love Auburn. Will endeavor to visit other places that offer brunch. I suggest that you do as well. This was such a lovely spot - I loved the old school diner feel, and the staff were warm and inviting. Our server (named Leana I believe) was incredibly kind and accomodating, and made the dining experience pleasant. I loved their little trivia game on the wall. Local, "mom and pop" restaurants, are among my favorite places to enjoy great food, particularly my favorite diner cuisine... and especially breakfast. In the small Sierra Nevada foothill town of Auburn, a great place to enjoy a wonderful breakfast, or lunch, is Edelweiss Restaurant, which is a favorite place for the locals to "hang," and enjoy a great meal. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the quaint decor that could easily be described as "country." The dining room is friendly, comfortable and truly "old school," like the restaurant. The kitchen isn't exactly open, but I took a peek through an open door and saw Sammy chatting with the talented chef. Note the "old school" order wheel which relays orders to the kitchen, as orders are taken on a note pad. The menu offers countless varieties of omelettes - over 40 and counting - along with your breakfast favorites, burgers, sandwiches and delicious diner cuisine "comfort food." From the "Breakfast" section of the menu, I went with "Ham Steak and Eggs," with hash browns as my side of choice, along with sourdough toast. My breakfast also included a small cup of homemade berry jelly, along with a bottle of Sammy's homemade hot sauce. More on the hot sauce later... The showcase of this delicious breakfast was the slab of ham, and honestly, it was one of the most delicious slabs of ham that I can remember enjoying. The large ham steak was probably around 6 ounces or so, thick, but not "too thick," deliciously flavorful, and simply fork tender. The serrated knife was simply window dressing, as I cut this tender ham steak into small bites by simply using my fork. The attractive grill marks added to the stunning presentation and the delicious taste. I have never met a potato on the planet that I didn't love, and it's always a difficult choice - hash browns or country potatoes - but most of the time, hash browns win out, as I simply adore the crispy "crunch" on the outside as you bite into them, and the tender, white juiciness on the inside. I wasn't disappointed in my hash browns, as they were fried to a perfect, crunch golden brown on the outside, and tender and juicy inside. The hash browns were simply perfect! I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, and they arrived exactly as ordered. Speaking of eggs, what goes better with eggs than a couple slices of buttered sourdough toast? Sourdough toast is my de facto standard, and that's where I went today. Included with the toast was a small cup of berry jam, that Sammy pointed out was homemade from scratch. I'm not a fan of jam, jelly, syrup or anything sweet, but I simply couldn't resist enjoying it with a slab of toast; I saved the other slab to wipe my plate clean. The jam was sweet, but simply delicious, with robust flavor, which made those little pre-packaged tubs of jam pale in comparison. It has been YEARS since I've eaten jam, and I enjoyed every bite! A squeeze bottle of ketchup, along with a squeeze bottle of Sammy's made-from-scratch hot sauce was brought to my table. Forget the ketchup... it was hot sauce time! I squeezed a bit of it on my eggs, took a bite, and it was simply delicious! To my taste buds, the "heat" was on the mild side, but the flavor was simply delicious. I really can't describe the flavor, except it was a wonderful blend of tomato, chili peppers and seasoning. I applied it liberally to my eggs and hash browns and savored every bite! Such a delicious breakfast! My server, Sammy, is as friendly as it gets and the chef has talent. I truly enjoyed my breakfast, and it started out my Monday morning with a flavorful BANG! I cannot say enough good things about the breakfast I enjoyed at Edelweiss Restaurant, located on High St. at the eastern end of downtown Auburn, CA. My wife and I stopped by Edelweiss on High Street in Auburn on August 31, 2025 at about 11:30 a.m. for a late breakfast. When we arrived, all tables were occupied so they put our name on the wait list with one couple ahead of us. About 10 minutes later, they seated us and promptly brought menus and waters. After sipping water for 20 minutes, our waitress still had not stopped by our table to take our order. We could see they were busy, so we tried to be patient, but it seemed much too long to wait. I asked the lady that seated us, if she knew if it would be much longer before they took our order and she said she would check on it. About 5 minutes later our waitress finally arrived and took our order. Unfortunately, it took another 30 minutes before our food arrived, so the overall it took a whole hour from being seated to being served. Fortunately, that is the only negative thing I have to say about this place. The eggs benedict were perfectly cooked with the yolks running when sliced, and the ham had a delicious flavor and was tender. The hollandaise sauce was also superb and the hash browns were nicely browned and tasty. My wife said the Western Omelet was delicious and the serving size was very generous, Prices were reasonable, especially considering the size and quality of the meal. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and left a generous tip, even though there was such a long wait. We decided the staff and chef performed admirably and that the delay was unavoidable based on the size of the facility, volume of customers and available staff. Overall, an excellent meal. If you don't have a lot of time, it's best to visit when they are not as busy. We went on a Sunday, so that's likely a busy day. Great food, good prices, pleasant atmosphere. read more

This was the BEST French Dip sandwich I have ever had... The meat was tender & juicy, very lean and flavorful; roll was toasted, fresh & warm. The au-jus was PERFECT!!! It wasn't too salty or watery, just full body & delicious flavor. I had their deluxe version with sautéed mushrooms & grilled onions. My wife had the regular version. We both really enjoyed our lunch, which also included a salad too!! Family owned restaurant with great service, friendly staff and an old school atmosphere. My mushroom and Swiss omelet was fluffy and tasty. So much food and we needed to walk around a little before getting back in our car. We were able to park right in front of the restaurant by luck (there was a single spot open) but there are plenty of parking alongside the street, and there's a parking lot right next to the restaurant as well, which we didn't see until later. read more

My husband and I were in Auburn for the weekend and stopped into Edelweiss or lunch. I am so happy we did - what a total gem! They had a nice menu offering breakfast, lunch and housemade desserts (the cherry cobbler was divine). We enjoyed our meal so much, we came back for breakfast the next morning before heading home. Just discovered snapdragon recently and oh my gosh they have the best scones I've ever had. My latte was great too, so this will definitely be what I might go to places. This is one of those small town diners that has all the ingredients of feeling like family when you come in. Stopped in for a bite to eat with a couple of friends late morning. Fast and friendly service. The people here are really nice and helpful suggesting specials and guiding us through the menu items. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and a salad, and one ordered an omelette and the other a BLT. I am always leery of ordering an omlette as most places overcook it on the outside. Not here. Super attentive service. I've only had the chicken fried steak and eggs here but man is it good. Possibly the best I've ever had. The eggs were perfectly runny and the hash browns were made to perfection. Huge potions - you could easily split one of these meals between two people. It's a small place - I can imagine it gets crowded and there are probably lines on weekends and holidays. I went at 6:30 AM and had no problem getting a seat. That little hole in the wall in Auburn is the best for breakfast... I was taking there several several years ago from my boyfriend that I was with for 15 years. We were going on a motorcycle ride and I'm introduced there... People were nice. The food was fabulous and we had a very nice ride and I have been taking several of my other boyfriends that I've been with and my family up there. We loved this place for breakfast in Auburn! We ate breakfast there for all but one day and that was because it was closed. Service was always great, believe her name is Sammy. Had omelettes a couple of times and one of the breakfast specials the other times. Everything we had was fabulous and we enjoyed them all. Omelettes were great, eggs cooked over medium perfectly, and when asking for bacon or hash browns crispy, they were spot on. This is the first time visiting Auburn and eating here. Ususally just driving by to/from Tahoe or Reno. We'll make it a point going forward to stop by more often for breakfast or even lunch. Definitely recommended!! read more

We were patrons on 5/16/25, we walked in and we were seated right away by a very nice, tall lady with grey hair. Right behind us, was a man picking up a to go order and was helped by Velvet. The owner (don't know first name) Haddid, yelled at her for not seating us...we were already seated and Haddid did not see any of this. Haddid proceeded to yell at Velvet over this, everyone could hear. Later during our breakfast, Haddid proceeded to scream at Velvet over something different. When I say scream, I am not over exaggerating. VERY unprofessional and disgusting behavior as an owner. We will NOT be back. Poor Velvet had to clock out and leave, I'm sure she was told to. The look on her face of embarrassment made me feel for her. I will be contacting the BBB, over this. I don't feel as an owner of an establishment, that this is ever okay. After Velvet left, Haddid proceeded to talk to everyone about the situation, VERY unprofessional. Who would want to work in such a hostile work environment?? I've done customer service for many years, and have NEVER treated a team member the way Haddid did today. My heart goes out to that poor waitress and others that work there. Disgusting behavior and not the way to run a business. Will NOT be back again. The omelette we ordered was rubbery, obviously was made ahead of time and refrigerated, then heated back up. read more
