It was my first time at the Hamilton. I came with a big group of 9 celebrating a birthday. They took us to a table at the corner of the restaurant that felt super private and cozy. The restaurant is huge and so many different areas and tables and also a huge bar area. Our service was great, we had many waiters attending us and brought our drinks and food out really fast and took plates in between as well. Everyone loved their meals, their menu has a wide selection and variety of food. I got the shrimp tempura bento and left my plate clean because of how good it was. The only thing I wish they had was a bigger selection of cocktails. I tried two drinks, birds the word and a spritz cocktail and they were just too sour for me but if you like sour maybe you would like them!
4 1/2 Stars. We ended up here at the bar on a Friday night. I recommend making reservations for a table since this is a sister restaurant of the Old Ebbitt's Grill restaurant chain. The restaurant is massive and is popular for locals and tourist. There is no table service for the high-top tables at the bar, so you need to place your orders at the bar and they'll bring your beverages and entrees to your table. We started off with shrimp tempura and caterpillar rolls, Angus cheeseburger sliders, grilled octopus, ragu Americana and rigatoni. For dessert we indulged in coconut mousse and cherry blossom dessert. All the food was solid, and I was impressed with the rolls and tender octopus, which I could cut with a fork. Our server was on point & friendly, and the interior decor and atmosphere is really upbeat. I recommend the Hamilton, but book your reservations in advance.
Made brunch reservations and were promptly seated on our time in a very comfortable booth seating. It was pleasant sunny day in DC, and Marcus, our server was quick to welcome us and take down our order. Booth setup was fantastic, noise levels on the lower end, and sunny! Our order included Cream of Crab Soup ($10.99), Zucchini & Basil Frittata ($19.99), Shrimp & Gritts ($24.99), Kids Pizza, and a side of Truffle-Rosemary Fries ($9.99). Food was in-line with expectations and the Frittata was excellent and based on Marcus' recommendation. The Truffle Fries were fresh and tasty too! Food arrives within 15-mins of placing the order and we felt the menu was priced well. Overall, we had an excellent experience and were glad we chose this place for brunch on our final day in DC! Will visit again and will recommend to friends and family for its excellent food and service, and a great location!
Literally incredible. The Hamilton is iconic in DC and I can definitely see why. It's a huge and elegant dining space right outside of The White House. We sat the wood paneled bar for some cocktails and bites and I have never felt classier! I started with a fig spritz which was perfectly refreshing. Charcuterie was such a good choice. They have a variety of a la carte meats and cheeses. We tried prosciutto and goat and both were so good and came with a variety of cute accompaniments. My sandwich absolutely stole the show. A turkey BLT on the most delicious everything ciabatta roll with pimento cheese spread. Literally all of my favorite things on one sandwich. Perfection! For an incredible brunch in DC this is truly a must.
I ordered the Hamilton Caesar salad with steak and it was one of the best Caesar salads I ever had. The cocktail special made with Hakuto Japanese gin was really good and I anticipated it would land on the sweeter side so I ordered a pot of earl Gray tea to balance it out. I ordered the sashimi Hamilton Platter selection; this being the first time I ordered late night sushi in a setting more reminiscent of a dimly lit steak house so I had to look a bit closer at the sashimi to see the quality but it was really great. I found this great late night dining destination through Yelp. One thing I would change (if I could) would be to have the restaurant ask the squad or patrol car outside that had its blue and red lights flashing the entire time illuminating the entire dining hall for the duration of my entire meal to possibly park thirty feet away. It was clear that in DC every .75 miles at night there's a patrol car posted to just keep watch. There was no reason for the flashing to be the first and foremost thing I remember about this restaurant. The squad car can move 35 feet and not have this room feel like it's in an actor crime scene.
I was wowed by this place on my last night in D.C. People in my group who were also staying at the nearby JW Marriott kept raving about this place, so I opted to check it out for dinner and drinks. The food was phenomenal, fresh, and I had one of the best Cesar salads I have ever tasted. You could tell the dressing was just prepared and the freshness of the greens were on point. The jumbo lump crabcake was worth the price for a splurge and sitting at the bar was a treat watching Dan, one of the expert bar tenders, work his craft. I had a sparkling Rose' and a French Martinis, expertly crafted and shaken to perfection. The volume and vibe of the afterwork D.C. crowd was kind of refreshing after a long day on foot at the Capitol. I will surely return, next time I am in the area, as the menu is extensive and inviting.
The Hamilton was a good place to have a quick late lunch, and we were able to get in without a reservation (other places nearby were packed with an hour wait time). The service was very nice, and the ambiance was classic. They do have cool booths with lots of privacy. The food was a bit of a disappointing. Everything was very average, and not worth a price tag. Tons of other places nearby but, of course, you would need to plan ahead and make a reservation if you have something particular in mind.
This is just your average American restaurant. I've been to their sister restaurants like Clyde's and Old Ebbiets. I prefer those over the Hamilton personally because the service is better. The restaurant itself is very pretty, bright, spacious, white table clothes and on the chiller side. Some folks kept their winter coats on. We started with the calamari which was a huge portion and perfectly cooked. The wedge salad was perfect for two to split but it needed more blue cheese dressing. The burger and fries was juicy and perfectly cooked. Fries were served hot. Steak was perfectly cooked. Mac and cheese was more of pasta and Alfredo than true cheesy mac and cheese. I'd skip it. Overall it's a solid B+ American restaurant. We will be back to the other sister restaurants for happy hour.
Outstanding restaurant with the most delicious and one of the most affordable burgers around. The service was fantastic especially during the height of rush hour, the ambiance was historic but also modern at the same time and I really appreciated all of the staff for not rushing us after we finished eating despite how crowded it was.
Came in on a Monday at 4pm, the bars area were popping. My kids chose this restaurant because its called Hamilton, aka Alexander Hamilton. We were seated right away. The sushi is legit here , Japanese rice, good quality sashimi, even better, 2-5pm is 5$ off sushi rolls. Cheeseburgers was so juicy, cooked to medium rare, as asked. I have to say, this restaurant food is good. Our Waiter was so attentive and the restaurant is very nice, high ends looking. So many seatings , bars or booths, give a very nice vibe. I saw sign of live entertainments stage, would definitely come and see
The ambiance, service, and food were all great. The place was jumping at 5pm on a Wednesday. Looks like a happy hour haunt for local workers. From the warm welcome upon arriving, to the short 2-3 minute wait for our 5PM reservation, to the quick seating by our server, we had a great time. Our server Santi(ago) was attentive, helpful, available and friendly. My group was there for a quick dinner before a show at The Warner Theater. The entire Hamilton's team was committed to getting us served and out on time. We had the steak frittes, salmon, crab soup, calamari and delightful dessert. All were served hot and tasty. The salmon was a little bland, but they brought out a sauce that added a bang to it. Anyway, all in all Hamilton is tops! Go!
I recently dined at The Hamilton with my sister, and it was a delightful experience! Located conveniently near the White House, this restaurant boasts a diverse menu that caters to a variety of tastes. While The Hamilton is known for its crab cakes, I opted for the district wings, which were absolutely delicious. They came with an incredible mumbo sauce that had just the right balance of flavor and crispness. My sister did indulge in the crab cakes as well as the Italian Wedding soup, and she was quite pleased with her choices as well. I also tried the crispy shrimp salad, which was fantastic. The flavors were vibrant, and while I couldn't finish the whole thing, I took it back to my hotel room. Even as leftovers, it was a treat I couldn't wait to dive into! The wine selection was excellent, and I enjoyed two glasses that complemented our meals beautifully. The service was attentive and friendly, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Hamilton for lunch or dinner. The combination of great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and top-notch service makes it a must-visit spot in DC. I believe it's associated with another restaurant nearby, which adds to its charm. Th only reason I didn't give a five is because the host sat a group before us even though he said we were next. He seemed biased . . . I didn't like that.

This place is massive! The restaurant sprawls across 3 different rooms plus a bar upstairs and a performance stage downstairs. I came for dinner solo on a Friday night. Service was a pinch slow but my server was really nice, it was just wildly busy! The crab cake was amazing but $28 for one order felt steep! The wings with the mambo sauce were just ok.. The sauce was the best part. The mixed greens salad with steak added was just ok too. The steak was cold and tough. Overall, 3.5/5 for decent service and that yummy crab cake. I really wish the Hamilton were better. It has so many aspects of what I want, it is open late at night, it has sushi and an extensive menu of many things that I enjoy, and it has quite the cocktail list. Overall, the service of Hamilton, he is really quite good, everyone wants to help you, everyone does a pretty good job, but they seem overwhelmed. The entirety of the Hamilton is actually quite overwhelming, if you don't go during happy hour times the prices seem too high. If you go late at night, there's a bunch of people there that just do not make for the best vibe. I will probably continue to come back to the Hamilton because if you need sushi at midnight. This is a great place to do it, especially if you want to Manhattan or other cocktails go with it. However, this is not the place that I want to go on a date or with my team at work. This is a place that will never be seen as excellent because it is nothing more than mediocre, consistently every time. Come after 10 PM, eat yourself some sushi, and have a nice cocktail. You won't feel good about yourself, but you also won't feel bad about yourself. read more

The overall experience at this restaurant I rate 5/5! My family and I visited for a graduation and everyone treated us with ample amounts of kindness. The restaurant itself has a beautiful modern woody feel that was pretty and spacious so you don't feel like you are too close to other tables. The mussels which i unfortunately didn't picture was absolutely delicious as well the following foods I pictured. If you are in the area, give it a try!! read more

Greedy Server Destroyed My Trust in American Restaurants I've traveled to the state several times, and I've always loved how friendly, warm, and thoughtful American restaurant staff are. That's why I always tip 20% or above -- I typically hand the server cash, ask them to take the agreed tip, and give me the remaining change. This has always worked out perfectly, until yesterday. On January 31, my daughter and I had a brunch at The Hamilton in Washington, D.C. The New York strip steak was excellent, and our server was so nice that we decided to come back for dinner and even make it our regular spot during our trip. The dinner check came to $115.46. I gave the server $200 cash and clearly asked him to apply a 22% tip (the highest standard) and give me the change. My total with tip should have been roughly $141, leaving $59 in change. Instead, he only returned $21 to me -- no explanation, no apology, nothing. I didn't realize the error until we got back to the Marriott. This incident has completely broken my trust. I will no longer hand over large bills and rely on servers to handle the tip and change honestly. From now on, I will only get my change first, then tip separately, just like most natives. The greedy server ruined the faith I had in American dining service for years. read more

We found The Hamilton while scrambling for a last-minute dinner alternative--and I'm glad we did. Located just a short walk from the White House, it's in a prime spot with plenty of nearby dining options, but this one stood out for its massive interior and unique vibe. The building is huge, with multiple dining areas and a layout that feels like it just keeps going. We were seated in the main dining room, tucked away in the far back, which gave us a good view of the space and its quirky bird-themed decor--a fun touch that added character. To start, I ordered the cream of crab soup and an Old Fashioned. The soup was a standout--rich, creamy, and generously loaded with crab. For my main, I went with sushi, and honestly, it was my favorite part of the meal--fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. I also tried a steak, which was just okay. I feel bad saying that because I don't want to sound like a steak snob, but it just didn't do it for me. We wrapped things up by splitting a cookies and cream milkshake, which was pretty good--sweet, nostalgic, and a nice way to end the meal. The service was friendly, though our server did disappear for a bit longer than expected at times. The place was busy, and the crowd was a mix--no clear dress code, which made for an interesting blend of casual and dressed-up diners. My bride surprised me with tickets to yhe Hamilton, Wiskey Washed. The event consisted of different food service providers as well as a number of Borbon, and scotch providers. We had tickets that allowed for early entry. In addition to food there were other providers of cigars, non alcoholic beverages. Turned out to be a great venue with great conversation which created an environment a positive ambiance. The food varied in quality and taste, but generally good. read more

Always like The Hamilton. I have usually either come for lunch or eaten in the lower level during a concert. But tonight, a friend and I had dinner (reservation recommended). The place was pretty crowded by about 6pm. Our booth was near the sushi bar and felt a little isolated. But our server was great. He highly recommended the seafood stew we were considering, and it was really tasty - chock full of shrimp, scallops, & fish in a really flavorful tomato broth scented with tarragon. YUM! We got a bread plate appetizer that was too much food - but still very good. The cheese-stuffed bread was a fave-- dipped in the seafood broth: WOAH! I had a nice Pasa Robles Cabernet and my friend got the Zin blend (mine was better). A nice night. We'll be back. Big fan of the fish tacos at lunch and sushi anytime is fab. read more

I visited The Hamilton to see Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute band. It was a very nice venue -- looks like just a tiny restaurant bar when you first walk in but then you go downstairs and it's huge with a dance floor, and lots of tables on the lower level and an upper level with high top tables and seating that wraps around the balcony with a wooden ledge you can use as a table if you are dining or if you just want to set your drink down and watch the show. The bar area upstairs had high tops on a first come first served basis. You didn't have to pay extra for a table. Of course, when you are watching a high energy Led Zeppelin tribute you won't be sitting long. I had a blast dancing in front of the stage with a diverse group of people all appreciating the music. I definitely recommend The Hamilton as a music venue. And Kashmir, is a great tribute band. Recommend them too! read more
Went to The Hamilton Live for the first time to see Bill Frisell, and I'm already planning my next visit. Getting there from 395 was super easy, and while parking in D.C. is always a gamble, there's a garage across the street and decent street parking if you arrive early. I found a spot two blocks away. I had never visited, so I made the mistake of walking through the WHOLE restaurant to get to the venue area rather than just using the side entrance. The venue is downstairs and It totally gave off speakeasy vibes, which I loved. We had bar seats but grabbed an open table and ordered food. I had the margherita pizza...delicious. Although, I do wish they had more vegetarian options. Drinks were solid! I tried the house rum punch and really enjoyed it. Prices are definitely on the higher side, but that's just D.C. The venue itself is intimate and well set up. Great sound, cozy vibe, and even if you're not right up front, you can see everything clearly...and there are TVs throughout if needed. One tiny thing: if the artist is soft-spoken or playing something quiet, the bar's dishwasher might kick on, which is loud if you're nearby. It only lasts a few minutes but was noticeable. Overall, this place is a gem. Highly recommend it for live music, and I'll definitely be back! read more

I always make it a point to stop by The Hamilton when in DC. We were able to walk right in, but at times it can be busy, so a reservation might be worth it. They have both American food and sushi (both are delicious). We had delicious cocktails, and the bartender even made me an amaretto margarita. read more

There is so much going on here. We went on a Monday evening and it was packed so a reservation is a must. They were able to accommodate our large group and the service was fantastic with great recommendations by the staff. The food was all great with a massive variety on the menu. The fall market salad was a wonderful balance of greens and sweet fruit. The broccolini was wonderfully seasoned and the cranberry cake was a refreshingly delicious way to top of the meal. The Hamilton is a total vibe! i had my mind set on taking my food to go but i wish i would've stayed. the bar area is old school in the best way possible. the staff were super friendly and checked on me multiple times. these wings tho, hands down some of the best i've EVER had. not just in the city but anywhere! they had the perfect crunch to them without being over battered. they were seasoned perfectly and cooked perfect because they were still juicy on the inside. then you dip it in their house made mumbo sauce and it's a WRAP! the chocolate bread pudding was absolutely decadent! the cherries cut through the sweetness and the ice cream brought it all together. next time i'm in the city im definitely going to dine in and explore their menu a bit more but will definitely be having their wings again. read more

We had the best server George here at The Hamilton. George knew everything about the entire menu and we did need a lot of help pairing entrees and various wines as this menu is packed with all sorts of great combinations. I suggest the newer 'wicked tuna sushi roll' and the 'cherry blossom roll' then salmon sashimi. Pair this with a beautiful SavBlanc fromNew Zealand and you are set. September 12, 2024 - First time experience at The Hamilton was beyond our greatest expectations. We were gifted tickets to see Keep Flying, Ballyhoo, and The Mad Caddies. We were shocked at how fancy & upscale the concert venue was for an alternative, reggae, punk, & ska music band. The food was so so. The white wine & sushi I ordered were good yet not spectacular especially for their price. It was nice to order food at our table in front of the stage for the concert. Pitchers of water & glasses were available at our table - a nice touch. It was a very unforgettable night in DC I will cherish forever. read more
My husband surprised me with a date day, and we came here for lunch, when we arrived they said it would be a 40 min wait. So we waited and found seats at the bar and got a drink. We were talking and realized that 40 mins had passed so my husband went to the front and they said 5 more mins. This was annoying because he had more plans for us water and it was time sensitive. If we would have known we would be waiting an extra 40 mins before we were seated we would have ordered at the bar. That being said, the food was really good and I would love t come back, but I would like a realistic wait time. read more

What can I say? Wow!! I was blown away by the most simple dish. I had a crab cake and fries. So yummy!! The crab cake was excellent with just the right amount of Old Bay Seasoning. The fries were nice and crispy. You won't be disappointed if you eat there. read more

Came here for lunch on a Thursday and it wasn't busy. My server was very friendly, attentive and made a couple of recommendations for me. I got the Branzino and a side of crab fried rice. Food was delicious! Minus one star because the person in the front kept asking me to sit at the bar when i wanted to sit at a table because i was solo dining. If you think "sushi" and "Hamilton" don't belong in the same sentence, you haven't been to happy hour here. The rolls are fresh, inventive, and somehow way too good for the price. One moment you're at a polished downtown restaurant, the next you're elbow-deep in a spicy tuna roll. Pair it with a cocktail, and suddenly you're rethinking every other happy hour in town. read more
Me and The Get Fresh Crew (my niece and nephew, lol) always enjoy dining out for the holidays. Thanksgiving 2024 we decided on The Hamilton for an early dinner. My nephew and I started off with Angus cheeseburger sliders as an appetizer. [sooooo good!] I opted for the Thanksgiving entreé which included sliced turkey (light, dark meat), turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, sausage-sage stuffing, cranberry sauce, and green beans. Last week, a friend and I visited The Hamilton for Happy Hour. While it wasn't my friend's first time there, it was my first experience dining at the restaurant. The place is quite large, featuring several different seating areas. We chose a table towards the back, which was nice since the front area was packed. Initially, Kate was our server, and she was fantastic--very attentive and helpful in assisting us with our roll selections. Once Kate's shift ended, we were served by Erin. Erin was pleasant, but she wasn't as attentive as Kate had been. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls, and I also tried the cream of crab soup. The soup arrived first. It had a good flavor, but I found it a bit bland for my taste; however, it was full of crab, which I really enjoyed. The sushi rolls were decent, but I've definitely had better before. Each of us ordered three rolls: my friend had the Tsunami, Crunchy Tuna, and Rainbow rolls, while I chose the Caterpillar, Firecracker, and King Toro rolls. Our favorites were the Rainbow and King Toro rolls. If you're unsure about what to eat, The Hamilton offers a wide selection of options to choose from. read more

Found this place while trying to scramble for a different dinner idea than what was already planned. Located near the White House, there are several options like this to eat. Very large building and interior with several seating options and surroundings. We were sat in the far room where the main dining room is. To start I ordered the cream of crab soup and an old fashioned. The soup was very good- creamy, and there was plenty of crab in the soup. I ended up caving and ordering the recommended Osso Buco, adding carrots and mashed potatoes. The meat was good - but the mashed potatoes came out cold. Our waiter took an extended period of time to replace them almost to the point where when they were replaced I had finished eating. As dessert we split a cookies and cream shake. Would like to come back and get a better entree, everything else was solid. read more

Came on a Monday night and the restaurant was very busy and crowded. I was able to get a table and was sat quickly. The service throughout wasn't too bad, but the drinks didn't come to the table until well after the food. While we didn't see the server too often, he was polite. The restaurant feels upscale and the menu would lead one to believe it is, but the service was lacking as everything felt rushed. The scallops were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the meal. read more

I don't think they have a particular size limit, just call in advance to block the space.

I had to order my Sushi upstairs. They have a seperate menu for the theater. This may have changed. I have not been in the theater in a couple of years. I would def call and check.

I've been there and did not see pizza on the menu. Just visited the website menu - no pizza.
Happy hour deals are only on sushi, no drinks specials?
They do have a 720 ml bottle of sake for $25 during happy hour as opposed to $30. It's a nice sake that pairs well with their sushi!
Where is a good place to park and is it validated?
You can pay to park on the street or pay to park in a garage. They do not validate parking. There is no free parking.

Dress code is smart casual.
How do people dress for night time concerts on the weekend?
I eat at The Hamilton all the time but I've only been to two shows there. I've seen people in everything from casual to dressy. Definitely not black tie unless they have another event before or after the concert.
Is this place ok for kids? I will be traveling with my 9-year-old daughter and I don't want to be THAT person with a kid in a grown-up establishment...
I see kids there all of the time! It shouldn't be a problem.
