What a most wonderful brunch at the Greenbriar Inn! The location is lovely and we had chosen to sit on the "sun porch." There was no sun today, but it was still a pleasant place to be, because one could enjoy the view and the in-floor heating. The restaurant was full, but we had no problem holding a conversation. It was nice to see that our company ranged from very old people using walkers, to families with children, to young single friends and couples. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and loving the food. The waitstaff was plentiful so that everything moved fast if necessary, but one never felt rushed. Our waitress was knowledgeable about all of the menu items and gave good advice. She was very attentive, but didn't hover and never interrupted our conversations to check " if we were happy." Excellent service! of course all of that, while delightful, is icing on the cake. The real question is if the food is good. It's delicious! Flavorful and subtle. My companion and i both had the oysters Rockefeller to start. They were perfect. Subtle flavoring where one could still taste the lightly cooked tender oyster. id like to eat those every day. That light touch combined with a deep flavor profile was also evident in my shatchuka and my companion's butter poached crab eggs Benedict. The menu was varied; there were lots of other selections that were tempting. i would go back to the Greenbriar any time, and highly recommend it. read more

The outside seating is beautiful and the wine list is amazing. But the food is subpar and overpriced. We went with a large group and everyone was disappointed with the food. If I go back, it'll be to order a glass of wine and enjoy the gardens, u cannot imagine eating there again. read more

I feel bad saying this but I want to be honest. The food was pretty good, but the server was maximum stressed out and clearly had way too many tables. We asked a few questions about the food and it felt like she had never even eaten there before and did not have time to really answer anyway. Overall it was ok, but it would have been so much better with a more experienced server who wasn't so stressed out. Maybe give your wait staff fewer tables, the food tastes better when there is not stress put into it and when you're spending 200 plus dollars on brunch, you kind of expect a better experience. I may give it another try at some point but please get a few more servers don't be cheap! read more

Went to a wedding here. It looks very nice, lovely views and outdoor appearance and for this they charge a lot. However the food portions were tiny. Small piece of meat served with a tiny piece of brocolli. How much more would it cost to add a potato or a bit more vegetable?! However the worst part of the Green Briar experience was the SMELL. The entire garden area (where the wedding took place) smelled very strongly of raw sewage. My guess is their septic system and leach field is old and malfunctioning. It really was a disgusting detriment to the wedding and I feel bad for whoever paid $$$$ for the wedding. read more

Oh Greenbriar, your best days are so very far behind you. You are a tired space, poorly trained crew churning out food for those who have lost their sense of taste. The Greenbriar is a Colorado icon that has fallen into disrepair. The interior is visibly in shambles and desperately in need of a total remodel. Some of the upholstery is ripped/cracked in the booths and nearly all the dining chairs wobble. The flooring is sticky from years of spills and the space is dark, not light and airy. The food has always been mediocre but like the tired decor, the kitchen is clearly tired as well. Coffee is tepid, food is sitting in the window too long and the spice rack must have quit because everything is bland. To the owners, stop resting on your laurels and bring back a refreshed, great breakfast place that can establish new traditions. read more

Had some friends in from Houston and wanted to treat them to an ultra delicious dinner in a fine dining restaurant. Naturally we took them here as the ambiance, service and food are all over the top. Don Adam was our waiter and he provided excellent service. We selected the Wagyu Flat Iron Steak, Grilled Colorado Filet O' Beef and 2 orders of Scallops. All were done to perfection. The wine list is also superb so it was very easy to pair to the wide variety of our order. I loved this place! One of my top five meals of all time. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The duck entree could not have been cooked more perfectly with a delicious crispy skin, and the scallops were like butter. First time having Oysters Rockefeller and just wow! Server Matt was super friendly and attentive, no complaints about service. The restaurant itself was clean and cozy but not outdated. Would love to sit outside next time. Not a single complaint! I had my wedding at the Greenbriar in September and had a wonderful experience from planning to the big day! The team was very easy to work with from planning to executing a wonderful dinner and bar service for 150+ people. GBI hosts a really nice tasting event that gives you a chance to try many of the menu options. We were able to choose from their extensive menu for hors d'oeuvres, dinner courses, and desserts, all of which far exceeded our expectations. GBI has an excellent pastry chef and the carrot wedding cake was a favorite! The ceremony venue is tucked in the back of the property with a great view of the foothills in the background was, and has easy access to both patios for cocktail hour. We were very impressed with how the staff and management team made the whole experience special for our guests with exceptional service throughout the night. It was very apparent that the staff has a lot of experience working together at GBI, compared to most wedding venues that throw a team of vendors together for the evening. Service was amazing. Sat inside by the fire and the ambiance was so warming and comfortable. The trout warm dip was out of this world. Served with pita bread, veggies, and pickled asparagus. Also served with artichoke dip. So yummy! Crab Benedict (I did not get, but I tried) it was too fishy for me. Veggie omelet with goat cheese was delicious and creamy. Deviled eggs were good as well. 8 family members decided to make a brunch reservation for a Christmas Celebration when my Dad was visiting from out of town. Our waiter was really the only drawback from the experience. Before we even had a chance to dive into the menu, our waiter said the strangest thing. He said to me and my boyfriend "If you guys are going to need separate checks, you all need to stay where you're seated now and not change at all". I was like ""WTF??" I was very offended. I've worked in the restaurant business for over 40 years and if you can't figure out a way to indicate by each order who is with who, you are in the wrong business!!!! I do this on the daily for parties of 20 +.. often when people are sitting at different tables, no less. Just a really tacky way to begin a very special Family gathering !! Our waiter had very poor knowledge of the food (had no idea if the bagel was toasted for the bagel/lox appetizer- I mean come on.. that's pretty basic), didn't bring a steak knife for the Steak and Eggs or syrup for the French Toast. We had to wait several minutes before I could flag down a busser and ask for these items as well as salt and pepper. The food was very tasty which might be the reason for a return visit. Lastly, I asked for a box to take home what I didn't eat and when he grabbed my dish from in front of me, I quickly told him I preferred to pack it up myself. I had to repeat myself 3 times before he would return my plate to me. As if I was speaking a foreign language. Honestly, just a waiter who may be more successful in comedy as all he did was throw out one liners and jokes that didn't land. Just a very odd experience!! read more

Beautiful setting, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and great food this is a lovely special occasion spot and I don't know why it took us so long to get here. My husband and I went for the anniversary of our engagement and will most definitely return. While there were several salads and appetizers that looked delicious in the menu, we wanted to be hungry for our dinner so we reluctantly only had main courses. Knowing it was an anniversary, the waiter brought us a glass of champagne to toast the special day and of course I didn't say no to the bread (olive is my favorite). I ordered scallops and shrimp over risotto and my husband got the Beef Wellington. They were both hot, fresh and delicious!!! We had a glass of wine to go with it and the evening was divine. Greenbriar was a place for celebrations. Our last experience did not meet the standards previously experienced. 1) Waited at the host station for five minutes and then went into the bar to ask for service. 2) Half of our group arrived early. They ordered drinks and were served. The server asked if we were ready to order then started to leave. I had to call after her to order drinks for the rest of us. 3) Dinner was served to everyone except me. I waited TEN minutes, then flagged our server down. She apologized for not serving me. Ten minutes later, she came back to tell me it would be out shortly. (I suspect the order was never submitted to the kitchen). 4) We had 3 people who ordered iced tea or lemonade. We finished the first round. Even though our server walked by several times, we had to literally reach out and flag her to request refills. 5) In the restroom, right next to the sign stating "Employees must wash hands," there was an empty soap dispenser. No offer to discount my meal, offer free dessert or anything a normal establishment would provide. Sad, sad.. read more

We hadn't been to the Greenbriar in awhile and had been many times over the years. I guess when we hadn't been for awhile and COVID we sort of let it fall off our radar. It was absolutely fabulous. Everything we had was 5 star food. My wife said it was the best escargot she ever had and that was just one of the appetizers. The oysters were incredibly fresh. The bartender was great and talented as well. The mains were just as good! The atmosphere was just as good and dessert was just as good. We will be returning sooner than later. It was our 37th anniversary. I admit it was expensive but It is one of those places where it was absolutely worth every penny. It's rare to find a place like that anymore. I'd highly recommend anyone give it a try and I'm sure you'll agree. My wife had filet and I had lamb duo for mains and they so perfect they needed no extra seasoning. You won't find that outside of world class restaurants especially French. read more

We used to love this place. You used to be able to count on delicious food and awesome service. That's just not the case anymore. We've been underwhelmed a few times lately but thought that we'd try again for my husband's birthday. Dinner was pretty good but as with everything else the prices are through the roof. Up about 40%. A tiny mocktail with fruit & soda water (no alcohol) is $14/glass even at Happy Hour. We were shocked when the bill arrived. Service is also downgraded. Our waitress knew we needed to leave by 6:30 so she was "timing" our meal accordingly. The place was empty at 5:30-6:30 on a Sat, so it wasn't too busy. For some reason she had the bread delivered with dinner and not beforehand. Huh? Then between finishing dinner and getting birthday desert it was a solid 25-30 minute wait. Not because dessert was being made, still not busy with patrons, but because she was literally just talking to the neighbor table for 10-15 minutes about their trip to Rome so we couldn't get the order in. What?! I've never experienced this kind of poor service at a nice restaurant before. We wound up leaving much later than was ok and we were ultimately late to our next stop. Definitely underwhelming and disappointing. Unfortunately we won't be back. read more

By the kitchen door a waitstaff was seen drying off his neck with a white table napkin. Why should any customer need to see that? Go to the bathroom. Very surprised to see customers wearing shorts. We actually expected more from what we thought would be an upscale restaurant/dining, but sadly we were all very dissapointed in the overall experience. Absolutely the most wasted money I have spent in years. They accepted our 4:00 pm reservation and we we promptly seated. Sadly, multiple food items were out and those that were there were cold and dried out. The French Toast was rock hard and could not be eaten. The prime rib was inedible and the lamb was totally gone. Cheese blintzes were hard and could not cut with a knife. Every table around us was complaining and very unhappy! Ambiance: excellent - very cozy and clean. Reminded me of an old mill In. In New England. Service: excellent. Our waiter was very personable and attentive. The hostess was super friendly and showed us a picture with ghosts in it! Food: terrible. I honestly am not a food snob, but I know a savory and well prepared meal when I taste it. This food tasted like Chef Boyardee. We started with the raclette. The cheese which is supposed to be a bold gruyere tasted like macaroni and cheese powdered mix and was just as thin. My husband ordered the salmon that was a top risotto. The risotto tasted like it came out of a can and had zero flavor. The salmon was over cooked. I had the beef Wellington and it tasted dry and the reduction glaze was overly salty like it was pure soy sauce, almost inedible. My husband took me here for a birthday dinner. We had a lot of anticipation having heard so many great things, but I am very disappointed and feel like we spent too much money on an experience that didn't launch because the food was so unremarkable. It is a super busy week with CU graduation and Mother's Day to get ready for, so the wait times may be a little longer for the food, but the atmosphere and service 100% make up for it. This place used to be a world class establishment. It appears the times have changed. We just had the "5 course" fixed price Valentine's Day dinner and were deeply disappointed at almost every turn. -Calling this a five course meal was extremely ambitious. Course 1 was a half ounce bite of puff pastry with a tiny piece of smoked salmon. It was not good and tasted like it had been sitting on a counter for hours. Second course was okay - mediocre salads and soups and whatnot. Third course was a BITE of sorbet. -Portion sizes even for the second and forth courses were light. We were two thirty year olds and two seventy year olds who eat light. Everyone was hungry when we left. -Vegetarian version was tasty but about half the size of everything else - which as previously stated was already small. -They never told us when we booked that they were going to hit us with a fixed price, limited option scam. We were hoping for the old classics - beef Wellington, bananas foster. No go on rip-off night. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point. Had not been to Greenbier in a LONG time but went frequently in !970-80"s....that's not a typo...its that old. and so am I. Read some criticize its age but I think the place is cool. Tiny funky bar...awesome sunroom where we had brunch on a sunny December Sunday. Christmas decoration very nice. Servers were very NEAT and in NEAT uniform and very attentive, but not too much. Spicy Bloody Mary good and at $12 a real bargain. I had traditional eggs Benedict....among the very best ever.... came with nice plate of fresh greens in tangy but very lite vinergarete. Spouse had veggie omelet which came with house made biscuit. She gave both an A. And the prices were very reasonable.....both entrees, bloody and a hot teat $55usd....a bargain in today's restaurant world. Great food at great prices in a very cool location North of Boulder. I'm late in writing about Thanksgiving at the Greenbriar. This is a review and a warning: Don't Go. It took me a while to write because 1) I really don't like writing a bad review, and 2) I thought by now I could laugh about the experience. (I can't). Also prompting this late review is the fact that I cooked a turkey dinner over New Year's weekend, and while I am not a great cook, it came out much, much better than the dinner at the Greenbriar. Oh how I wished I had cooked for my guests that day! I had three guests for dinner on Thanksgiving day. One specifically questioned a buffet, but I assured her that the Greenbriar was a fine dining experience. The buffet would be clean and well-maintained. Sadly, this was just not the case. There were shrimp floating in the cocktail sauce and bowls of salad were near empty among other things. The serving spoons that the general public used to scoop and serve themselves were absolutely disgusting to the touch. Although we are not big eaters, we did visit the buffet tables for various courses, yet the plates piled up on our relatively small table. Additionally, you get to use the same silverware over and over from salad to main course to desert. The silverware itself appears as old as the historic Greenbriar building. Water glasses were rarely filled. The restaurant was out of the bottles of wine we desired. The waiter evidently didn't know, and there was no indication on the menu and no suggestion of a suitable replacement by the person who delivered the bad news. We could have used that wine to cope with the coughing diners literally inches from the back of our chairs. Yep, there wasn't much room to move around. And those diners! It was the Country Buffet crowd for sure, some who appeared to have just returned from a night of clubbing. It was hella expensive, and I love an occasional splurge, but this felt like downright theft. I still am thinking about what good use those funds may have been put toward. What I'm really kicking myself over was leaving a 20% tip for the waiter who did little to nothing. It was a nod to showing up on the holiday, but damn, I wish I had that part to do over again. Now it's been a few years since dining at the Greenbriar on a regular day, but I recall the service being exemplary. Not so much anymore. And yes, I know it's tough to get people, but maybe think about closing for the holiday. Perhaps the Greenbriar can allocate some of their ample Thanksgiving day earnings to patching up the muddy parking lot and driveway. For those of us who did dress up, we did not appreciate getting our heals stuck in the muck. read more

When we got there, we got a Happy Birthday by the front staff on arrival, and that was that. Our server never once acknowledged the occasion. I'm in a wheelchair and they had a good way to get in which I have trouble with so many older restaurants with it! You have better make reservations because it's hard to get in. We always look so forward to a dinner at The Greenbriar and it has always been a "must go" when we come to Boulder. However, last night was a sad & huge disappointment! For the first time in 30 plus years, the service was inept, the food was not up to par and it just wasn't worth the $650.00 (for 7) price tag. Nothing came in any kind of standard order. An appetizer came out with an entree for two guests, then 40 minutes later the remaining meals randomly came out....barely warm. Although the server apologized for the service & disorganization and the manager came out to view the raw salmon on a salad, which should have been comped, but all that was offered was a free dessert. No thanks...we didn't want to wait to see how long that would take. I hope they can figure things out & I hope I can bring myself to go back, but it was simply a sad event for all of us. read more

I've driven by so many times, I was excited to finally give it a try for Denver Restaurant Week. I love everything about the character of the building and location, and the history. The outdoor patio looks lovely for warmer weather, and I can immediately understand why it's popular for weddings. The food was about what I expected: delicious, upscale, solid but nothing overly adventurous. I had the duck, which was flavorful and tender. The pork belly appetizer was a great blend of tastes. The wine list is dizzying. We brought our son and didn't expect a kids menu; I appreciated their approach of having the bar menu do double duty. My only gripe was the speed. I don't want to feel hurried along, but it was a bit too slow: the prix fixe dinner took over 2.5 hours from seating to paying. It was over 15 minutes before our server came to introduce herself; by that time, we thought better about ordering a cocktail and figured we'd better go ahead with the full meal order instead -- glad we did. It took so long after ordering to get our appetizers that I was sure they'd been forgotten and the main would arrive first, but no, it was that slow. read more

Brunch at the Greenbriar is like none other. The grounds and the restaurant are magical. The food and service was over the top. We started out with the basket of breakfast breads, a nice assortment of muffins and croissants which were freshly baked and warm out of the oven. The soup of the day was savory and delicious to the last drop. But, the best part for me was the Seared Skuna Bay salmon. It was served on a puree of celery root and green apple, which I savored for the rest of the day. Kudos to the staff at the Greenbriar for a wonderful experience in every way!
