My family and I went for brunch on Sunday and we loved the Great Commoner. We were greeted by the hostess and our table was waiting for us. Our server Moejo was super nice and super patient with our party of 11 people. Since we were so many people, we were able to try many dishes. The Shakshuka was delicious. Just enough spices and eggs perfectly runny. The Kale salad was a perfect mix with the almonds and quinoa and loved the sumac dressing. The Labneh platter had all sorts of rolled labneh and sides with it. We had got the Belgian waffles for the table and they were thick and golden with the perfect crisp. For our own meals we had the breakfast burrito that was stuffed to the max, the new fresh garden wrap; super fresh and a perfect veggie option, the short rib hash; very tender short rib and full of flavor, the mushroom French omelet that was better than France; light and fluffy and full of mushrooms, the makanek sausage hash; wow this was tasty and loved the sausage, and of course we had to try the pancakes that came pilled up high with ice cream; another great dish. If you love lattes, this is the place to get some of the best lattes with unique flavors. I had 3 lattes and could have had more. The first was a perfect blend of espresso and milk. The second was a lavender honey bee latte; super cute and delicious even served with a honey spoon. The owner made me a strawberry latte, wow I wish I could have one now!!. All the syrups are made on house and you can tell. Come here for good, fresh homemade food made from scratch. Can't wait to go back for brunch and can't wait for the dinner menu!! Must try place. Stunning place with great food, coffee and desserts! We met for bunch and had a great time. The staff was very kind and helpful. They were patient with us as we tried picked from all the yummy options. The food was great! I had the salmon toast. The smoked salmon was fresh and all the toppings were crisp and delicious. I had an iced pistachio latte that was a great balance of sweet and strong coffee flavor. We shared the brown sugar pancakes with a blueberry compote on top. They were fluffy and the brown sugar butter was great on top! The location is beautifully decorated from top to bottom. There's a coffee bar and regular seating to pick from. Sooo good! My husband & I went this morning for breakfast (early Fri AM) so we were greeted & seated immediately. I had the breakfast sandwich on croissant & he had the shrimp & grits! Both were delicious. Next time I would get the sundried tomato aioli on the side (my preference) My husband says the grits are one of the BEST he's ever had. We have to go back to St Petersburg FL & retry some grits & then he can properly "rate them" lol! We forgot to take pictures!‍ We have yet to try any baked goods/sweet treats....maybe next time. Mmm....fresh croissants and a beautiful assortment of pastries. I haven't tried the entrees here yet, but the pastry counter would make a French patisserie envious. It's seriously impressive. Dozens of buttery, delectable croissants in over a dozen flavors. The first bite took me right back to a memory of eating a fresh raspberry croissant and walking through a little French city on the border with Switzerland. On my first trip, I tried the raspberry, apple and brie croissant. On the second, I tried the chocolate raspberry croissant. Both were delicious. Of the two, I preferred the former. I also shared a couple of pastries - one was called lemonade berry I believe and had a lemon curd or custard surrounded by a delicious and sticky meringue. I didn't think another pastry could beat that one as I love citrus flavors. The second pastry was the pistachio eclair - a beautiful pastry filled with intensely pistachio-flavored and colored cream topped with fresh raspberries. Inside the eclair was a hidden layer of a cookie like crispy section at the bottom. The whole pastry was delicious and flavorful and somewhat of a surprise. I loved this one too and still can't decide which I liked better of the two. I can't wait to try more. The Great Commoner is definitely an asset to the community and I will be coming back for more on a regular basis. I've already recommended it as a "must try" to family, friends and coworkers. Besides the food, the atmosphere is a refreshing combination of old and modern. There are very pleasant spaces to sit and enjoy the cafe. There's even a side room with a conference table that would be great for a casual team meeting. Service was delightful as well. read more

First timer here. 20 minute drive, 30 for my girlfriend, and worth it. We made a reservation. Girlfriend was running late so I was day but no one greeted me until a minute after she arrived. I went to this place about three weeks ago and had a good experience inside with the server helpful and polite. Also, it was a great place to catch up with friends. However, when driving home I got food poisoning from the item I was served. My relatives even said that the food had an odor to it which was surprising because I had a good experience about 2 years ago. Came here for brunch for the first time recently and it was pretty good! The service was good for how busy they were and the waiter was really nice. It's a cute, decently sized place with a lot of good menu options. I got the shakshuka and it was good but for the price, I feel like it should have came with two eggs not just one, especially because there was a lot of the sauce, so I think the egg to sauce ratio was a little off. Had a small intimate wedding ceremony/ reception in the glass dining room area. Excellent service, food was exceptional. Came here a few months ago and it was a fantastic experience with fantastic food. Wanted to stop in for a brunch with my partner and it seems the food quality has gone down. The syrup had a gross coagulated film on top and my orange juice glass was basically only half full. For a $5 only half a glass is ridiculous. On top of all this, during the middle of the meal, a worker got yelled at by an older man (maybe the manager?) it was extremely unprofessional and disruptive to my meal. My family trio likes try out new restaurants when we're out and about in the area. Checking on yelp, this one had an interesting menu and was close to where we were, so we decided to try it. The building is so cool and the decor inside is great. That's where the positives end. Our server was unhelpful and unfriendly and seemed annoyed that she had to be there. I chalked it up to possibly a bad day and decided to give grace. She took our order; my son ordered blueberry pancakes with bacon and a coffee, my husband ordered an omelet and coffee, and I ordered the shakshuka and coffee. My son's pancakes arrived before anything else and tasted slightly rubbery -- almost like they were made by mistake and then used for our table. So my son sat there with pancakes and nothing else. When the server returned with the rest of our items, about ten minutes later, possibly a little longer, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the pancakes and asked if he could get fresh ones. Server whipped the plate so fast and turned on her heel and never asked if we needed anything. So we sat with our food, my son at least had his bacon (which was greasy and sort of undercooked) and my husband needed the hot sauce for his omelet, for which he asked when he ordered. We waited for fresh pancakes. When server brought my son's food, my husband asked for the hot sauce and more coffee and I asked for more napkins. Would have asked when she dropped off our food, but she wheeled away so quickly that none of us had the chance to. Having worked in the restaurant industry all through college, I know not to "run" the server. She returned with our items, basically slammed them down, and left. Never inquired about our food, didn't ask if we needed anything else (we didn't), and was in general beyond rude. The food was subpar. The bacon was gross; my son never ate it. My shakshuka was okay. My husband's omelet was sort of overcooked and the hash veggies were undercooked. We didn't eat so much. And we had to flag down the server for our bill. Never cleaned off the table, never offered us boxes for our food that was left uneaten nor asked if there was an issue with the amount of food left. We arrived at 11:30 a.m.; there were a decent number of diners, but nothing that would be considered a "rush." I did use the restroom at one point and while it was beautifully decorated, it was dirty. My advice is to spend less effort on the ambiance and find people who care and take some time to refine the food. Oh, the coffee was spectacular! So maybe I should give another star read more

Really wanted to eat here, but unfortunately my father is disabled and there is no handicap parking in the street or near the restaurant, and the handicap parking in the structure is too far for him to walk. Yes, there are solutions, but overall business should take disabled people into consideration. There's parking across the street but none of it is handicap reserved. Had to turn around and find something else to eat. This is structural ableism and extremely hostile infrastructure in the area. read more

Is few things could been better but not related to the food or service. I do wish a place that was this large has more restrooms for guests; the line got quite long at the one bathroom and I was afraid to lose my spot in line to go check the other bathroom. It would also be great if they had more room for guests that are waiting for tables to stand or sit; it's so busy that we were constantly in the way. They should add a kids meal; I have two kids under 9 and not having an option of a smaller meal for kids (and paying full price for meals they couldn't finish or does not heat up well wasn't great) is an experience that can be improved. Now, the food.... Delish! The shrimp and grits were some of the best I've had and I love that they had so many food/coffee options. My entire family loved our meal. read more

I had an appointment nearby and was hungry for breakfast when my appointment was over, so I looked to Yelp for advice on where to go. I decided to give this place a try. I ordered 3 eggs sunny side up, cubed potatoes, sourdough toast, and two sausage patties. Plus coffee + cream. The breakfast portion was huge. I have a good appetite and even I couldn't eat it all. The food quality was really good. The potatoes had a unique flavor (I can't quite place it) and they were yummy. The environment is bright and cheery with tons of natural lighting. And my server was great. My bill for my meal + coffee + tip was over $20, so this is not your inexpensive breakfast joint. But I wasn't disappointed to pay it either. I'll stop back in next time I'm in the area to try/sample other menu items. read more

First let me start with the atmosphere and ambiance fit for a fine dinning experience. With, New ownership the menu has seen quite delicate growth. For example the Strawberry French Toast, a soft and sweet breakfast added to the menu with the graham cracker topping to add a slight crunch. Also the innovative drink menu that changes periodically so you can always find a twist in the beverage you desire. The service and ownership are very attentive and very responsive to resolve any issues that may occur. At first with the change of management I saw a slight dip and service. I love this place. Coffee is amazing. I had the pistachio coffee. A little sweet but really good. If you don't like Arabic seasonings ask them to put on the side or to not put on food. I was so hungry because I didn't eat anything all day long and I decided to eat that sandwich because usually I like it. it tasted so bad , The toast was so soft the salmon was so warm and I felt in general so bad while I was eating it but I waited forever for the waitress so I had to at least eat something because I was so hungry so I only ate half of it. I paid $15 for it and I left. I got sick two hours later, stomach ache and diarrhea ! , mind you I never had anything since yesterday other than that sandwich and now it's 12 PM of the next day and I still feel sick. Such a great brunch spot! The ambiance is warm and definitely hitting the IG vibes. The staff were very efficient and welcoming. We were able to reserve the back area for a large party for a post-wedding brunch. It worked out perfectly. The food was delicious as well. I ordered the waffles and salmon toast. Decided to try this place yesterday and from the moment i walked in i was greeted by the hostess. Table did not take long for set up. Our waiter Mohamed was very upbeat and accommodating to all our menu requests. The food was excellent very nice sized portions and very tasty. This place is a 2.5. It is really beautiful and inviting. They had gorgeous live music playing and created a fun ambience. It was practically empty, perhaps they have one or two other tables with guests when we arrived. They were also out of most of their pastries. We got one mocha. It was artfully presented and extremely delicious, but tiny and extremely pricey. We also got one tiramisu which was about four small bites worth of dessert and cost $8.00! Even more expensive restaurants either charge less or give a huge portion. This was the tiniest strip for the largest price. It was okay, but not a mind blowing dessert. More of a taste for each person. They told us to sit anywhere we liked since the place was practically empty but then told us we could not sit where we wanted because it was reserved. I am not sure why, no one else was there and no one else arrived during out entire stay. There are so many places on this strip that offer coffee and desserts. While their large macaron look enticing, I am not sure if it would be worth coming back and trying them. Plenty of other places offer macaron in the area. read more
