The catfish was great - I loved the seasoning and the crispiness of the batter. There was a good amount of fish too - my combo has two catfish filets and a mountain of fries. Personally I prefer fries a little longer than an inch or two but hey, they still tasted great. I was not a fan of the grilled shrimp. They were grilled nicely and not dry at all. But the seasoning was not to my liking. Maybe it was old bay-like but not sure. I would go back but would pick a different location that maybe feels a little safer. I had encountered a man in his late 20s or early 30s in the restaurant that made me a little uneasy. The guy who took my order was in the back and it was just this other guy and me up front. What could improve? Well first of all it would be nice to be open during the open hours....the hours listed on your door AND online! When I called, there was no response. Really just for take out, but for the location it's understandable. The garlic bread was not as great as it could have been and making their own tartare sauce would really change the game but overall a pleasant lunch. If you're looking for a quick meal of excellent fried cod, The Captain's Table does the job. I've had it twice now. The fish tastes fresh, the batter is perfect and nicely crispy. I recommend either ordering it up fresh in the store or arriving early if you order online. I ordered online the second time and it seems the order was prepared well before the time indicated when I ordered. Consequently, the fish wasn't quite as crispy by the time I brought it home as it was on the first visit. Be sure to ask for extra tartar sauce if that is your thing as they don't give you much and the packets are very small. The prices are quite reasonable compared to similar restaurants, but quality was right up there with nicer seafood restaurants. Order was right but the lady behind the counter was mad I made her late closing. She was literally throwing my food in the bag. I had to ask for utensils as my wife and I were in a hotel. Got plastic knife and fork. No napkins and to top it off she was in such a hurry she rushed me out and didn't give me the 2 drinks I ordered and paid for. Seafood was ok but overly salty. Grilled shrimp was cooked in some type of hot sauce. Fries were ok but salty. Hush puppies were good. Bottom Line not the worst seafood meal I've eaten but near the bottom especially with the bad attitude and poor customer service, especially given what I paid for it. Went here for the Yelp event and when I tell I was blown away! Everything was freshly prepared and came out in 15 minutes. I got the fried catfish seafood combo with collard greens and I paid for an extra side of Mac n cheese. Everything was seasoned correctly and the addition of tartar sauce for the catfish was great. The Mac n cheese was extra cheesy and actually stuck to the macaroni and I can tell the greens were seasoned with some type of meat simmering in with them. They also had a koolaid which definitely let me know this place was legit. This was definitely a treat, you would judge me to know how I fast I ate everything but a great experience and how could I forget - excellent prices for the amount of food you get! Nothing but incredible things to say about this place! It's usually empty and quiet, with a kind woman at the front desk who's always polite. She's the only person I've ever seen working there, to be honest, LOL. We've ordered carryout at least 10 times since we moved to the area. It's definitely the best fried catfish I've tasted from any carryout place so far. It's perfectly fried every time, light, airy, and with great seasoning. Their lemon pepper tastes identical to Captain Jay's, which I thought was unique to their brand. Maybe there's a captain connection, LOL. Their fries are battered and taste great, and their wings are great, too. My only complaint so far is that I wish their greens weren't diced like coleslaw. But the flavor is still miles above what most carryout greens taste like. Most people know greens, macaroni, etc., will never taste as great as homemade when you order out, but even their macaroni was better than most carryout places. Kool-aid is always a great balance of sweetness! It's definitely our favorite go-to local spot. read more

This is my second official Yelp elite event. The Captain's Table in Westland is in a little run down strip mall but once inside it's a clean tastefully decorated place great for carry out or there are a few tables if you want to eat inside. I'm gonna suggest getting it to go because the bathroom is currently out of order. I got the small seafood combo basket with 3 pieces of walleye and fries. My combo also came with a drink. My husband came with me and he ordered a chicken sammy and their banana pudding. The 3 pieces of fish were quite large and had a nice flavorful breading on them. Deep fried and piping hot! Not greasy at all. I enjoyed the walleye (minus some bones) but I'm a tarter sauce lover and unfortunately my tarter came in a to go squeeze packet (gross). The fries were not hot, kind of bland and hard. I ate a few of them. My husband liked his sandwich and the banana pudding. I didn't try his sandwich but I took a bite of the pudding and I thought it was horrible. The worst fake banana flavor I've ever had. Almost as bad as a banana flavored now and later. I probably won't be back but that's only because it isn't close to my house and I don't eat too much deep fried food. If I was in the area and wanting a fish fry, I'd probably try it again. I was on my way to my usual place wheni was told to try this place. Guy there was really helpful with everything. Right away the inside smells amazing. I went with the walleye with collard greens as well. This place is so good that I'm willing to drive out of my way to come back, as my usual place is right down the street from where I live. The portions are awesome for an amazing price. I am already thinking of what to get next time. Oh as for the sides, collard greens are great and those fries are so good also. Took under 15mins as the guy said but as sit waiting I noticed the phone was ringing off the hook meaning others customers have found this hidden gem too which is good cause it a good change the food is good but I won't know til I take my first bite. Ok as I said I'm sitting in my truck eating like as though I was hungry cause the food was just that good. I also noticed around me in the parking lot they get a lot of door dash and Uber eats pick ups orders. The chicken wings smelt like he had someone's after church grandma frying it smells amazing and taste even better. Oh also I got a drink ( lemonade & fries ) with my order at no additional cost. The drink was cold and refreshing the fries were nice and hot just like the wings and the shrimp was nice and meaty. So it's a good chance I will return to try the fish. I had a hankering for some fish. After searching for a place, I decided to come here. I placed an online order for two large orders of Cod fish which set me back $23. When I arrived the inside of the restaurant was tidy with a simple decor. This is mainly a takeout restaurant although there are two tables for dining in. I went up to the counter to pick-up my takeout. I was given my order and the man went immediately back into the kitchen. I opened the the bag and there was only one box with two pieces of fish. Huh ? I looked at my email to verify my order. A couple mins later another man came to the counter and I showed him what I was given. He said let me check your order. When he came back, he said give me five mins and I will cook the rest of your order. While I waited for the remainder of my order, I dined on the two pieces of fish. I will say the fish was decent. I detected which I believe was MSG that gave it a savory taste. Perhaps, I'm incorrect. I just wanted to bring this to someone's attention that might be MSG intolerant. After 10 mins, I received the rest of my order. Eight pieces of fish in total. Not too bad of a price for fish especially considering today's seafood prices. Will I go back ? Probably not. Found this quite by accident but my future visits will be planned!! I am a fish and chips snob and have experience quite the range of offerings over years and this ranks near the top. The crispy, perfectly cooked breading of the cod was amazing. I would have liked to seen malt vinegar and ketchup at the tables of the modestly appointed dining room. The hospitality and engagement by whom I assume was the owner behind the counter assured me the focus was on the food preparation and that was satisfying to me.
