Purchased a groupon to this place a couple of months prior to visiting Detroit. So glad I did! Located in a prominent area of Detroit, free parking is located across the street at a parking structure (at least on a Tues night). Not very busy upon arrival as we had a late dinner. Service was prompt and our servers were very friendly. Started off with the spring rolls (veggie & fried). Ordered 3 sushi rolls for myself and my friend ordered the meatball ramen (which he asked for not spicy and claimed it was still spicy). Sushi was good but I didn't feel it was the freshest. I should be very thankful this place was open on Christmas Day but however very disappointed with the service. They are extremely slow and it wasn't that busy. I really want to give this place ALL five stars BUT there was ONE major drawback I hope they work on. The service! We were reviewing the menu and catching up as a group when we first got there. And instantly we were approached for our order. However, we weren't ready, then we were approached several more times by different people asking us to order. I'm not sure if they didn't coordinate, if they just wanted us out or what the issue was. We needed up ordering several things to try on the menu but the service never improved. The food is good. Annoyed that they have Soba on the menu but it's not soba noodles in actuality. Seems like all the Dearborn places think that Soba is any noodle they choose except Soba. Soba is buckwheat and the noodle has a distinct flavor vs what noodle they used in the soba dish I ordered (noodle was white and that's a sign of it not being soba is most cases too) and the waiters didn't know what soba was even made out of. I enjoyed several days of dining at various Arab restaurants on Michigan Ave, but visited Blue Fish to change it up. The restaurant accommodates a good number of people, even during prime dinner time. The menu offers a great variety including sushi, ramen, and standard Asian grill items. Ordering with several family members allowed us to try items from most menu categories. The highlights for me were the Beef Bao from the dim sum menu as well as several of the sushi rolls. The Creamy Chicken Ramen taste and quality were on par with most I've tried; the portion was very generous. The Chicken Yaki Soba was also portioned generously, but the sauce was far too oily for me. Service was consistent throughout the visit. I'd call this spot good, not great. Nothing was awful, but there are definitely hits and misses. There's some street fair going on in the back. Was fun finding a parking spot. It's a decent sized spot. There's an outside patio too. The sushi bar is empty but clean and welcoming. It's bustling inside, popular spot. I ordered a carry out order two mixed green salads with ginger dressing, a snow cone less roe, a caterpillar roll, a Philly roll with crab salad instead of smoked salmon, a fancy california, a salmon on the beach roll, a lobster tempura roll less roe. Almost $100 worth of sushi and salads, not cheap. Korean music playing in the background, nice. Food takes about 30-40 minutes to be done. My patience diminished after 20 minutes. They have 4 sushi chefs. They could at least offer me some water while I wait. At least the woman that took my order sensed my irritation and told me she checked and the sushi chefs are packing up my order at the 35 minute mark. 38 minutes and my food was finally out. Two minutes later and I would've canceled my order and walked out. The mixed green salad is okay. Had spirals of beets, some pickled daikons. The ginger was good. The salmon on the beach was much too fishy tasting for us both, it wasn't our favorite of all of the rolls. Neither of us wanted to eat it even. The fancy california was good. The caterpillar was okay as was the snow cone, neither were special to us. The best rolls for me was the lobster tempura and the Philly roll with the crab salad. Impromptu sushi after not being able to find (aka distractedly walking past the restaurant we were looking for). Open and prompt service. Servers in masks and all helping one another. We ordered some beers (Asahi and Sapporo) which they have in bottles and apparently on draft. Food came out almost all together except tuna tataki which arrived a bit later. Everything fresh and yummy. I am not a big fan of California rolls and wasn't surprised that I was not as excited about it as the sushi/sashimi on the plate. Lots of good bites. The shrimp tempura was great, some of the vegetables were not cooked that well though that accompanied the shrimp tempura. Seems to be under new management, or the management took over. Very different people behind the counter vs. last year. Quality has taken a nosedive. The rice tasted dry and old in my rolls. Icing on the cake: My wife later called to order a carry out. While ordering the person (sounded like a manager) abruptly cut her off and asked who would be picking it up. When giving them my name they mumbled something untellable that sounded like "that name does not match." It seems they were matching her caller ID with her name, and assumed it was a prank call. I got miso soup, ginger salad, and a spicy salmon roll. Long story short: slow service and food didn't taste that great. The miso soup was really good. I was pleasantly surprised by how huge the salad was! However, the ginger dressing had little ginger flavor, all I could taste was sweetness. The spicy salmon roll is where my meal went really downhill. The fish was so tough to chew and it just didn't taste great. There was a faint taste of mold but maybe that was in my head. On top of that, they put the tiniest bit of avocado on it. The service was slow. I also had to walk up to the counter to check out. I was really excited and decided to restrict my calories until dinner so I could indulge in a shrimp tempura roll. I know attention to diet isn't important in Dearborn (see: above average bmi) so that's besides the point. I walk in to greet my friend, who's always been skinner than me. The waitress who was some sort of desi woman was incredibly cold.. no hello how are you just dropping the menus on our table. We get to ordering-- shortly after our food comes. Suddenly, flies swarm around our food. I simply ask the waitress if we could switch seats and we did. Then, we still encountered so many flies and it completely ruined my appetite!!! At some point even when I was shooing the flies they overcame it and were on the food. When I spoke to the manager she said it was normal and that the doors were open bc it was summer so obviously there would be flies. It also smelled like rotting meat in the restaurant so I don't know if that was the case. She hardly gave a discount and said it was normal. I'm not even sure the flies were due to the being open... perhaps the reason could be so sinister the waitress was angry at me for noticing and decided to completely rip me off even though she exposed me to flies which could have gotten me sick This place only cares to make a doller on u XD anyways don't eat here there are plenty of other good sushi restaurants around that don't steal money from u and give u a horribly ghetto eating experience. Its a good place, but food needs flavoring, the food is ok but ramen is a soul food, it doesn't feel hearty it feels like we ordered water with floating veggies and the spicy one feels like some just threw on the chilli powder at the end, when you are drinking the soup the spices hit the back of your throat and makes you choke on broth. Sushi and buns were grt, spring roll was ordered for the table in the me u it was said 6 we only got 3, so told them we are not paying that price its half the order hence half price. We ordered the chicken and spicy chicken ramen noodles and both were delicious and generously portioned. We also ordered sushi - salmon on the beach and the firecracker sushi; salmon on the beach had a slight kick to it, not as flavorful as others I've had but good nonetheless.
