The Globe is a part of my home. I don't usually write reviews, but the food they serve here can cure a broken heart!! Truly soul food, and beyond that, the service is impeccable. It is constantly packed, but the staff and owners always tend to us and make sure our food is always the best quality. If you ever have time, talk to the owners. Tell them thank you. They are incredible people who really know how to make you laugh and feel completely at home!! Ask about their family's other restaurants in the area, they are truly a powerhouse of talented people. I am vegan and I always order the Thai Curry or the Mango Coconut Curry with tofu along with an appetizer of baji (crispy chickpea flower veggie fritters), samosas, or Tibetan dumplings (steamed). The curry is the best I've ever had, so incredibly rich and deep in layered flavor. The tomatoey Nepali style sauce served with appetizers is to die for--salted to perfection and the tamarind sauce is also incredible. Here's a little tip: if you LOVE spicy food, and I mean if you LOVE pain and suffering, ask for a 10 out of 5 spice level. One of the owners got such a kick out of me ordering high spice levels and I worked up to a 14 out of 5. Granted, once I ate a 14 out of 5 on an empty stomach and felt the impact for DAYS...lol so now I stick with a 5/5 spice level every time I go. So please be smart about it and use caution. The Globe is a spot that is very popular with the UW students, and it can get pretty crowded. It's a small restaurant that has a selection of asian fusion food. The menu can change/rotate, so be aware of that. You order at a counter and the staff bring the food out to you. My husband and I went and had some Afghan Korma Curry, thai coconut curry hurry and some momos with a mango lassi. I preferred the Korma to the thai curry, but both were good. I don't understand how this place is highly rated. Coming from CA, maybe the options are limited for global cuisines. There were swarms of people eating there, but I guess I don't get it. We ordered the chicken tic tac and some fried Nepalese dumplings. The dumplings were not great. They were overfried and the sauce was very overpowering. IMO, probably the worst dumplings I've had in a while. The chicken was good, but I guess it tasted like the Indian food from Costco. It saddens me because it looks like a family run business and they look like they are cramped cooking things. Service was nice, but the food was mediocre. Middle of the road and it probably because there is such a wide focus and scope of food. The seating is limited and super hot inside, so I would suggest eating outside if there is space. Every time I go to The Globe, I leave happy. The staff are always wonderful and very helpful at picking our your spice level. Be warned, 5 is SPICY! Thankfully they walk around with water pitchers often. The food is excellent and always delicious. They have fun menu items that are definitely a fusion of cuisines. The Creamy Curry Noodles is one of my favorites and a must try as I have never seen a dish like this anywhere else. The inside is quaint, so come prepared to wait if you want a table, but the service is quick and they can squeeze a bunch of people into the small space. read more

I'm an Indian food lover through and through, but this spot goes beyond the confines of Indian food--it pulls in bold flavors from across the globe, and it absolutely works. The creativity and uniqueness here have set a new bar for flavor in Madison. I've been to other Indo-Chinese restaurants, and, in a good way, this not even close to them. Favorite spot off state street. I love the Afghan korma, the 15 bean soup, and the Indian tic tac curry. You really can get anything and it will be packed with so much flavor. What a well rounded (no pun intended) menu at The Globe! It's an incredibly small diner with some indoor and outdoor tables - we were fortunate to get an outdoor table and the weather was perfect. Staff were very kind and attentive. Ordered both soups to try and I preferred the 15 bean a bit more, but thought both were phenomenally savory and flavorful! First of all, the guy who owns this place is the nicest guy, enthusiastically described and suggested dishes to us, and introduced us to his favorites. He warned us hot was going to be hot-hot, so we ordered lower than the spice level than we normally would and the food was plenty spicy. This place is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. It's right on the UW campus and has a few tables inside and outside. We've walked by this place many many times and never really paid attention to it until we saw some reviews so we decided to give it a try. Given it is a super tiny space we waited until summer to dine here at one of their outdoor tables. One problem with that idea was that on a hot sunny day their outdoor seating has no shade so we ended up eating inside (with minimum AC). Fortunately it was early and not too busy. You order at the counter. And I don't think they had any alcohol. I ordered the Korean BBQ pork bowl and my wife ordered the Korean chicken tacos. Both were big servings and very delicious. We noted that we should have ordered the Tibetan dumplings which everyone else had ordered and were prominently mentioned in other reviews. Next time. An interesting mainly Asian menu. I LOVE THE GLOBE so much!! I started going about 5 years ago in college and it was my go to restaurant when finals seasons came around and I needed a comfort meal or when people came and visited. Cute little place in downtown Madison. There aren't many tables but the seating was cozy and many people ordered carry out. The staff were friendly and good suggestions were made for our first visit here. There is an interesting mix of Tapas and different Asian flavors from Thai to Tibetan. We got the Samosas which were perfectly tasty and flakey, the Coconut Chicken Hurry-Curry at a level 2 spice which was pleasantly spicy and went well with our Thai Ice Tea, last we got the Tibetan Dumplings which were covered in a sweet spiced sauce with pulled chicken inside. We went there for the first time last night. I ordered the grilled korean bbq. I should have known something was wrong when he asked for what spice level I wanted since Korean bbq really shouldn't be spicy. A 1-5 with 5 being the highest. I said two. My wife got fried rice and said 2 and my daughter got tofu tacos and said 2. After two bites my dish was spicier than satans balls and I am used to spicy foods Same story with my wife's fried rice and one of the tacos. I don't know if someone just messed up in the back but It completely took away from the flavor which probably wouldn't have been bad if it wasn't so spicy.
