Their CC machine also didn't work for 10 mins when we tried paying, and by then it was just a lot of negative stuff piled on top of each other. The actual shop itself is a pretty low-end, hole in the wall type shop, but trust me when I say it's these types of places that have some of the best, most authentic Vietnamese food. There was an eggshell still on the hard boiled egg, they put vegetables when we ordered without veggies in the pho and mind you, they came to our table to clarify if my friend didn't want veggies in his pho, the drunken noodle was watery, and the vermicelli bowl was a bit bland. We were looking for an alternative to Saigon Noodles, so tried Sunny last night. I found the #5 carelessly made with "rare" beef very overdone and ittle in the way of meatballs, tendon or tripe. Broth was so-so, My lady had the vegetarian and found it too sweet at lacking in vegetables. It would have been a 3 star, but I found the restaurant itself was filthy. Given steady stream of delivery drivers it is clear this place is focused on takeout. Very loud and cold for eating in. Apparently Saigon Noodles is the best we can do in Madison. read more

As a student, this pho is what gets me through tough times. Whenever it's cold or im craving comfort food, I always get sunny pho because it's convenient and does the job. Combination Pho 7.3/10: For pho in Madison, it's pretty good. Their portions are big and the broth is a bit on the sweeter side but I don't mind. One critique I have is that sometimes their tripe isn't the freshest, the color of it just doesn't seem right but the rest of the meats are fine. Pork and Shrimp Spring Rolls 5/10 I'd pass on their spring rolls just because their are not really worth the money and they're super basic. If they had more noodles in them or even added the crunchy rolls that some spring rolls have they be better. The pork is also kinda dry. Lemongrass Chicken Vermicelli 7/10: Solid vermicelli dish. I really like the egg rolls with the fish sauce they give. I also ask for an extra fish sauce just cuz I like to drench my noodles in the sauce!! The lemongrass chicken is super flavorful too. I usually don't get this cuz it's cold, but occasionally I'll get it and remember it's pretty good. Service 10/10: Food comes out really fast, workers are attentive and nice. Ambiance 7/10: Small shop with tinted windows, it gets kinda cold inside during the winter so wear a coat, but nothing too special about the restaurant itself. I got a regular vegetarian pho and the broth was very flavorful! You can easily make it spicy by adding sriracha and chili crisp provided on the table. The regular size had a good portion and should be enough for most people. They have plenty of other dishes if you are not in a mood for pho, including boba teas. We heard from a friend that Sunny Pho is good so we went to try the pho noodle special and the spring roll, the pho broth is kind of the sweet side it taste like plain liquid with sugar no flavor. the spring roll we order the pork and shrimp spring roll, the price on the receipt are different from the price on the menu when we place the order. Their spring roll are very tiny if you compare to other restaurant that they serve . We also order a Banh Mi sandwich for $9.19, not much just 1 piece of meat kind of like pork ear and some pate spread on the bread. Drunken Noodles don't have a spice level like another local place but nicely done. A bit on the greasier side for the left dish in the pic. They don't serve a lime wedge with it but you can properly ask for it. Egg rolls were nice and not greasy at all. I know this is a traditional Thai dish from a Vietnamese place yet they did well but the service made the day. Will return for Pho and crab rangoons. We're trying more places and happy to recommend. The pho has a deep, rich broth with generous, lean cuts of beef and flavorful meatballs. It came with bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, and slices of jalapeno as garnish. Staff: The owner was very pleasant and attentive Food: Iced coffee was watered down and didn't have that strong espresso flavor you'd be used to with Vietnamese coffee. Egg rolls were fine. They are wrapped with large lumpia wrapping so didn't have that airy bite. But still crispy and filling tasted good. We got both the Large sized pho (Sunny Special and Beef). The sizes were massive!!
