While visiting Madison, this has became a favorite of ours- especially for brunch! The macaroons were amazing and their breads so delicious. I brought my spouse initially because they're a lover of French food and this blew her mind!! We love visiting on our trips to UW!! read more

It was a nice surprise to find out that they make Gallet des Roi the whole month of January like they do in France. My cake even came with a ceramic feve to put into the cake. The cake was delicious, flakey and almond cream was delicious (frangipan). I would call ahead if you want one because they might sell out for the day. I have also eaten several of their tarts. Visited Madison for a few days and had to check out this place for their macarons!!!! Love em and I was not disappointed with the variety of flavors available (a lot!!) and the taste . So good! Also got a caramel/nut tart which was so good, I went back the next day for more....and of course had to get more macarons read more

Staff attitude leaves a lot to be desired. I was criticized for being direct when the staff gave me inappropriate packaging for the goat cheese quiche. In fact he said "don't talk to me like that ". Seriously. I was not rude. I was upset because I had to return to the bakery after the quiche broke through the bag and leaked all over my car seat and my steps. read more

Good food! Prices are a little bit high, and the shopkeepers can be a little bit cranky, but I guess that's expected of the French ha ha. They have a lot of good pastries that are relatively authentic, and also some nonsweet things, like quiches. They also have crêpes on Saturday, and they must amazing thick, hot chocolate ever. Went to La baguette since was craving some French food. Was the worst French food I have ever had. The chicken in my salad had no seasoning at all, dry flavorless chicken breast. The salad dressing was flavorless too. The French onion soup was sad, was a waste of money. Stay away if you want to spend your money on something worth eating. I can appreciate the family ownership but suffice to say La Baguette just isn't for me. We've tried a couple of times and just been disappointed, especially compared to other reviews. The first time we came it was quite busy and if I recall they mentioned being understaffed, so I can understand some quality issues but on that day the French onion soup was transparent, tasted of nothing, and the diced onions were still crunchy. We haven't enjoyed pastries or the quiche we got either, the pain au chocolat was tasty but bready, but the quiche was like half an inch of dense, chewy dough. The preparation may have been intended but was not for us. I encourage you to try this bakery for yourself though. read more

I've been going here for years (from a very young age) and I have never once had a bad experience. The food (ESPECIALLY the goat cheese quiche) is genuinely heavenly, and it goes great with a combo of an iced chai. The bread loaves are also incredibly high quality! I came here everytime I came to Madison for their French Onion Soup (FOS) and also for their pastries. My boyfriend likes their FOS and I get why. It's pretty good with lots of cheese, flavorful caramelized sliced onions, it has a really great flavor. I love almond croissants and of course, I had to try one here. It was pretty good. So moist inside and yet its crunchy outside with all the almond flakes. I tried one from Madison Sourdough and I like theirs a lot better. To add, I feel that pastries sold here ar La Baguette are a little too expensive but its good enough so I let that slide. I am just used to eating Porto's Bakery's Almond Croissants that are a little over a dollar back home in Southern California. The girl working here nice. She's friendly, fast and knows what shes doing. I didnt like the owner's attitude though. He would greet all other customers but us. I hate being treated differently. In fact, when I went to Europe, I also visited Paris, France. They were definitely not the friendliest people I have seen visiting 6 different countries in Europe. This one guy tried to break my brother's 2-days-old M4 side mirror just because we didnt have any cash to give him. That was such an experience that I dont have good memory in France. Anyway, sorry for all that random story but I really didnt like the owner's attitude but other than that, it was all OK. I've been going to this bakery for so long and every time I go here it tastes like heaven, my personal favorite is the ham and cheese quiche. The texture and taste is fantastic and unbeatable at any other restaurant i've gotten a quiche. The quiche isn't the only thing that's fantastic though, every thing i've ordered on the menu is amazing and the owners are so sweet. 100% one of my favorite places to eat. read more

They have amazing selection of artisan breads. I would say the quality is not very consistent here. We have got some breads that were underproofed in a few occasions. Still, the flavors were still on point. Moving on to the tarts, they were okay. I didn't particularly like the thick breading the tarts had. I also got tuna tartines as well. Nothing to write home about. It was pretty basic. The bread for it was good though. Overall, good place to buy breads but pastry wise, I haven't found something I like yet. read more

We knew about this place but living on the East side this wasn't a convenient stop. Our main place for bread and pastries is Batch. Being newer to town we were excited that there was a French bakery in town. Being nearby on a recent afternoon we popped in since we needed some bread for a fondue and hoped to get some pastries in addition. Being later in the day there were few pastries to be had and the bread choices were slim. Not sure they had a big selection of either to start. We went with a ciabatta per the recommendation of the clerk which turned out to be dry and crumbling - disappointing. Though the staff was friendly we are unlikely to be back even if we are in the area. read more

La Baguette is a cute little French café located off of Mineral Point Road, conveniently next to Rejuvination spa... where I get my haircut! After my hair appointment, I popped in to grab a quiche to have for breakfast later this week. I was a little disappointed that the food selection was so limited, however, I think they were close to closing. I was torn between getting the goat cheese quiche and the asparagus quiche. When I asked the cashier which one she thought was better, she said the goat cheese-- so that is what I went with! The quiche cost me a little over six dollars and was big enough to split amongst two people. They offer breads, and some dessert options as well. I also noticed homemade croutons for sale next to the register. There is a small seating area, that never seems crowded, and plenty of parking out front. Just to warn you, they only accept cash or check... which has been a deterrent to me stopping in, as I usually don't carry cash. It's a great place to pop in for some bread, or a light brunch. Next time you're in the area with $$ on hand, stop in and try the quiche! read more

I'll preface this by saying that perhaps I didn't order the right thing at La Baguette, which by all means seems like an authentic, honest French Bakery. I do want to return to try their pastries because those looked delicious, but I was not a fan of their French Onion Soup. I ordered the soup based off looks; I saw an older man enjoying a bowl of it and it looked good, with strings of cheese and croutons swimming around. He reminded me of a regular who would order the same items over and over again, so I figured it had to be a bowl worth the trip. When I first tasted it though, the main flavor I detected was reminiscent of slightly flavored water; it didn't taste of anything really, even though it had all the fixings you'd expect in a French Onion soup. I left pretty disappointed, as I know that FOS, when done right, can be an absolute dynamite dish. La Baguette offers plenty of other french cuisine, so I more than likely will stop by again to try something else on their menu. read more

Several weekends ago I stopped in at La Baguette at the recommendation of a friend. Nobody approached - none of the staff even made eye contact. After about 5 minutes with no staff approaching, I looked in the case. My first choice was quiche - but it was equal parts dough and egg. I ordered a tuna sandwich on a ciabatta. For a French Bakery shop in the Madison, La Baguette has a decent selection of bread, salad, sandwiches and two soups: tomato basil or French onion. We've came here a few times based on a friend's recommendation (it's honestly one of her favorite shops in town). For brunch this morning, I got a fruit tart and chai latte. The crust of the tart was hard to bite into, and was a little messy to eat but still tasted good. The chai latte was semi-sweet but did taste a little watery. My boyfriend got a sandwich which the bread was hard and not warmed with tiny pickles that was barely noticeable. Overall, I can see how this place can appeal to others, and it's worth trying out at least once to see if you like the type of French Bakery cuisine. Just remember to bring cash or check as they do not accept any card and beware of using large bills. You might just end up with a wallet full of coins as change. read more

I recently started coming here again, and I had forgotten just how good the food is! I enjoy the brie sandwich, pain au chocolat or chocolatine (depending on my mood), and hot chocolate. I would love to eat here every day. They also take cards now! I have only been back alone, so I can't speak to whether the service for larger parties has improved. I stumbled upon this place while waiting for another appointment in the area. All the food looked so good and I was disappointed I couldn't order more (there is only so much one person can reasonably eat). The serving size was generous and my mocha was rich. cute little bakery/cafe. had the tuna sandwich which was nothing to write home about. for the price of $8.50 I was expecting a bigger portion of at least a dressed up tuna salad with some chips. this was just canned tuna with mayo. the bread was great though. the salmon tartine was great in comparison. topped with lots of smoked salmon which was paired with a small salad. they had lots of great looking desserts/pastries but we were short on time and had to pass this time. read more

The quiche will change your life. Does that sound like an overstatement? Probably. I mean, it won't make you rich (unless you can find a way to market it to the masses, and then it might). It probably won't help you find the love of your life - but if you do and s/he doesn't like this quiche then it probably wasn't meant to be. If I lived on the west side of town, I would probably have a slice of quiche weekly. At least. It comes in a variety of delectable flavors, but the star of this little slice of heaven is the pairing of thin crust and light custardy eggs. This is no thick triangular slice of over-cooked egg product. No. This is the real deal. While you're ordering, don't forget to choose a sweet from the case and a loaf of bread to take home (the olive loaf is particularly good). I just ordered a bowl of French Onion soup, it came In a bag with croutons and cheese on the side. It looked like a clear soup with absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I also ordered a hot beverage that was also watered down and certainly not worth 4.50. The lady at the counter was sweet but appeared scared due to her boss or father who proceeded to scream at me in front of the entire store and told me to never come back just because I claimed the food tasted like hot water and had no flavor. Please do not patronize this restaurant. He needs a dose of his own reality... Sad to say that was by far the worst french onion soup experience I have ever had in my life... read more

I took my spouse here Friday July 7 expecting the wonderful food and service I always experienced the many times I ate there before Covid. What a shock. The coffee was lukewarm, the Brie was not melted (ordered the melted Brie sandwich on a baguette), the ham was I believe a processed ham, and worst of all the baguette was not at all crusty. I went up to the register to give my input. I started out pleasantly asking if perhaps there was new ownership or a new baker. The young girl said no and wondered why I asked that. I continued being pleasant by saying a friend and I frequented La Baguette before the pandemic and always had delicious food and superb service. I then explained this time was different - the Brie was not melted and the baguette very soft. I was haughtily told the Brie sandwich was cooked 1 1/2 minutes and I must of gotten the 'rustic'???? Baguette. I explained again that this time the Brie was not melted and baguette not crusty. I was taken aback by what she rudely said next: "We'll if you don't like the food, don't eat here!" By then I was angry and said "if you were a good business person you would just apologize and thank me for the input. And believe me I will NOT be back. " When I got home I tried to call the number on the website to talk to the manager - twice a recording said you had to have some kind of remote access code to continue. So I clicked on 'contact us' two different times and was told either wrong URL or page was moved or deleted. So not being able to reach anyone I'm giving the first bad review I've ever given a restaurant. And I didn't even get a chance to talk about the lukewarm coffee and processed ham.
