I wouldn't give this restaurant 5 stars in HOUSTON or another big city, but for a small town this place was very good! We travel down 59 from my parents home in Arkansas from time to time and are thrilled to find this gem to break up the trip. The Cucumber Smash cocktail was delicious! There's a decent wine list. (I'm not driving). We had raw gulf oysters on HH special for $1 each that were nice and fresh and a half dozen Oysters Reynaldo with cilantro pesto that were delicious. Fresh rolls, white and wheat, were hot from the oven and very tasty. My pasta jambalaya was full of shrimp and nicely spicy. Hubby's steak was tender and cooked just right. The setting in the old train station is really lovely. We are so glad to see it preserved and cared for. We will be back!! read more

We decided to have an Oyster Challenge and try out all that this restaurant could offer. We have never had "Oysters Reynaldo" before= these are described as "Louisiana Oysters served with a pesto of cilantro and jalapeño and garlic that is sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese and then baked.".......these are good and tasty and are served with a tomato relish. We also liked the "Oysters Rockefeller" that are also served on the half shell and are served with a "stuffing of fresh spinach, bacon, Parmesan cheese and Anisette".......we have had these in a few places now and these would be the best of these type we have had. Our least favorite Oyster were the Broiled Oysters. These are also Louisiana Oysters served on the half shell and, " topped with Italian Herbs, Parmesan and Romano Cheeses and garlic butter and boiled..."..... These were mostly good oysters and our preferences are for the smaller oysters because the larger ones were not as good for us. We also had their bread and butter and it was good. The butter is sweet. We tried the Fried Artichokes too and they were tasty with the crab. Overall, good food. We sat in the bar area which was nice and full of TV's on sports channels. We watched a competition of musclebound guys in a golf long driving competition. Most of them could not get it in bounds. They should not have that in-bounds thing and just havewhoever hits it the farthest whichever direction should count. So happy to see Marshall's first truly upscale "big-city style" restaurant. The location and ambiance are the strongest selling points. The Ginocchio has a long history in Marshall with its origins as a hotel for the once bustling passenger train service dating from the 1890's. The newest incarnation for this beautiful building embraces the history and has become a welcome oasis for style and class. The restaurant ownership is trying to do things right. They have a professional staff committed to customer satisfaction. The bar is becoming a community hub. The room is festooned with large monitors to enjoy sports programming. On the night we came folks were also outside on the patio enjoying drinks and watching freight trains rumble by. One of the tracks is right next to The Ginocchio, and the building shakes a bit when a train comes by. Pretty cool! The bar staff is experienced, friendly, and seemingly can produce any style cocktail you may wish. Our party of three also dined in the restaurant. This was my first visit, and I was hoping for a little more variety in the menu. My friend - a frequent customer - steered me away from the Skirt Steak and suggested the Shrimp Scampi. My friend enjoyed his, but I found that the shrimp on my plate lacked seasoning and was bland. The portions could have been more generous. My house salad (extra charge) was just OK, and could have been larger. My wife ordered the redfish and enjoyed every bite. The bread served was unique and delicious. It was the highlight of my meal. It is annoying to hear the "house specials" for the evening recited by the server without at the same time announcing the prices for the items. To avoid having an awkward moment, the prices should be revealed before anyone has to ask. The lobster/crab taco (we got 2) was good, but again was a small portion and not worth the price IMHO. We also ordered the least expensive bottle of white wine. Our server told us they were sold out of that. We ordered the next highest priced wine, but the server didn't offer it for the same price, which is a common practice at other upscale restaurants. I was disappointed to see the only "chicken fried" option on the menu was for venison. That was too exotic and potentially "gamey" for me. I would have been happy to have ordered a good old fashioned Texas-sized chicken fried steak. The right recipe here would be a best seller, no doubt. It or another "comfort food" item could become the restaurant's "signature dish" perhaps. How about offering a great gumbo with a dark roux? Maybe a $25 hamburger and homemade onion rings that are well worth the price? Folks who would come to The Ginocchio would expect to pay more for top quality ingredients and portion size. East Texans like their "steak and taters". We will return to The Ginocchio on our next visit to Marshall, hoping our experience in the restaurant equaled that of the bar area. I was droopy and sad when we were seated in front of the swinging kitchen door. You know the drill...loud, bright/cozy/bright/cozy. Not a good first impression. Bleh. I hope a waiter trips so that I can laugh about this. The interior is gorgeous. Sleek, organic, antique, chic. I asked about the rose Cabernet...what's the depth of the grape? Dark or pink? She didn't know. FYI, it says it's dry...it's not. Hubby ordered blackened snapper, I the lemon butter salmon. Both good. Both very buttery. Lots of butter. Blackened with butter was surprising. And not great. Overall, I would have to say that I'm not thrilled, and for the price of 30 for blackened buttery snapper I'm going to have to be critical. Three small pieces of broccoli, about 6 slices of over cooked potato and a generous portion of fish was ok, but not memorable. Hoping that this place adjusts and refines. Nice to have a non-chain to have a fresh albeit not unique experience on my Saturdays in Marshall. Fyi, please don't ask me right off the bat if i have a reservation. Not friendly read more

As a lifelong resident of Marshall, Texas I have watched this historic building go through many owners and endeavors. We drove over from Bossier City because we were recommended and heard that the chef from "The Village" was there. Restaurant is in an old historic building right next to the train tracks, which was neat when the trains would go by. The food was well worth the drive!! My husband and I brought some friend here and Received food poisoning.I called the very next day and was told a manager would call me back but no call. I'm so surprised. The goal of my call was to inform them so they would not serve what we ate to anyone else or look at the ingredients used and make sure nothing was spoiled. SO pleasantly surprised!! A fabulous dinner club like up north- HERE!! The apps were so amazing I ordered the escargot in this wonderful sauce Caesar salad and the artichokes with pimento sauce for dinner husband had the skirt streak, soooo tender and delish!! Ate at Ginocchio for the first time tonight with some girlfriends. We had a 5:30 reservation and the place was empty. By the time we left they were just about at full capacity. Toby was our waiter. He was friendly and attentive. We ordered the black bean fritter, chicken piccata, and the shrimp scampi. The chicken and shrimp were both served with the potato of the day which was roasted Yukon's along with steamed broccoli. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Last night my husband and I celebrated the eve of our 40th wedding anniversary at The Ginocchio. We are staying in Marshall for the weekend. We shared the fried shrimp appetizer and the red snapper. Both of us were not full but not overly so. The food was very good and the service was also. Then we finished the meal with a cinnamon roll bread pudding that was really good. We made reservations here Nov. 15 for our 50th wedding anniversary. We had eaten here previously and enjoyed it very much. The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful. On this visit, we arrived at 5:00pm, per our reservation. I assumed the early hour was the reason that we were the only ones in the restaurant. We were seated, our orders taken and served promptly. Our drinks were refilled once. We watched the staff standing in back talking and laughing. Again, we were alone in the restaurant, but did not see any servers until time to pay and leave. On our way out the door, the receptionist shouted "happy Anniversary "! It would have been nice to at least been offered a cup of coffee or something as a way of saying "Thank you" for choosing us to celebrate your special day! I was bragging to someone at church Sunday, in Shreveport, about how nice the restaurant is and the great food. They responded that they also liked the place, but went for a special occasion and was treated very "cool" by the staff! Super food, great service. Perfect for a special occasion. Steak was really nicely seasoned and cooked exactly as ordered. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Veggie of the day (potatoes) were also terrific. Bread delicious! Pretty good choices for little ones, we got the fettuccine for our 6-year old. Will definitely go back. So glad we have a great steakhouse in Marshall, again. It's been too long!!!!! Only suggestion: we went early... when the place filled up it was pretty loud. The Ginicchio didn't match up to the pictures/ reviews I saw on yelp. The food was good but not great, over priced for the quality. My steak was over cooked but recooked correctly. If your going to drink here stick to beer or wine. Our lemon drop and cucumber smash were extremely weak! For the second round we told the bartender with short blonde hair and she said it was "illegal" to put more than 1 shot in a drink... which is not at all true. Ambiance was lacking, very bright and noisy. We probably won't be back. read more

Wow, what a surprise. We drove over to Marshall to eat here for our anniversary and it was wonderful. My wife had the special cowboy ribeye and it was cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. I had the blackened salmon and it may be the best I've ever had. We finished it off with the turtle cheesecake. This is a great place to enjoy a nice meal and a really neat atmosphere.
