I was in Marshall on business and staying at hotel just off I20. I Yelped for a place to eat and Yelpers came thru with the Honey Hole Cafe. It was basically across the street. So I wondered on over and looked over their menu. Lots of good options and I selected Cowboy Chicken Sandwich. I chose well. Nice thick crispy fried chicken breast, a couple slices of bacon, melted American cheese and a hand battered onion ring on top. I got the BBQ on the side since it was a to-go order. This sandwich did not disappoint. Everything worked. The BBQ sauce had just enough of a bite very good. The only thing I would do different is sub the fries for onion rings. Its sad I have to post this because we know Becky from Jefferson. Its labor Day weekend first off so make sure you have your supplies. We get to the restaurant and are told they don't have carbonation so the only drinks they have is tap water and iced tea. (First rule of a restaurant is always have an extra bottle of CO2 in stock). Well I drink none of those so I went down the street to get drinks and came back. I also heard Don Henley just came in prior to us, how embarrassing to be out of drinks for your busiest weekend... Anyways. It gets worse. They were out of cheese and other items. This is an ordering issue. You knew it was going to be a busy weekend why not be prepared. Or if you know you're out of bottled water or cheese send someone down the street and get canned drinks, water and cheese. Easy fix! Well we ordered around 1pm which they close at 2. After getting back from the inconvenience of having to get drinks I had to go out to the car. It was 157pm. As I get back from the car the front door was locked. Ok no problem I'll come through the exit door. Nope! There is no handle no nothing to open the door. There was another older man outside as well and we had both left out phones outside. Last resort I had to knock on the glass and a customer stood there. I saw a lady that worked there staring at me through the glass but she never acknowledged me or the man. So when I get in I told the older lady if people go outside how do they get back in. Her exact response was we don't want anymore people in here were closed and I'm tired. Very unprofessional response. I then was at the table talking with my wife about why I was locked out and the lady rudely interrupted me trying to correct what I was saying. I politely told her to mind her own business as I was taking to my wife. Like I said before it's sad that I have to write this because I consider the owner a friend but she was not here at the time so I want to make sure she knows what's going on in her restaurant. I ate the hamburger special yesterday. It was horrible. Meat was unseasoned and broken in pieces. Little mayo scraps of tomato and lettuce no flavor. This place is awesome! I make a point to whenever I go there to order a different entree each visit. The owner and waitresses are very friendly and attentive. The salad bar is simple, but fresh and delicious... as is their coleslaw too. The portions are hearty. Every meal I have had is great! Well this place was a nice surprise. We were driving back home from Florida and we needed some dinner. I saw this place near on google so I opened my yelp app and checked out the reviews and they were good. This place was a typical Texas "diner" I guess. The decoration, the display of things and the staff was like what you see when they display TX in most movies but in a good way. The food was great. Fried everything which once in a while its ok. Service was fantastic. And the prices were amazing. We all had either chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken and they were perfectly cooked and with the gravy they had a very southern flavor. Definitely a perfect spot when you return to TX from that side of the state. read more

Stopped on our way back to TN from a cruise out of Galveston. Everything we got was delicious! My daughter got the grilled chicken and it was phenomenal. My husband and I split the chicken fried chicken and barely made a dent, this thing is huge!! My son ate about half of his and loved it. read more

Solid home-style cooking with reasonable prices. The fried shrimp basket has excellent flavor. It reminds me of the way shrimp at Big Pines Lodge used to taste decades ago. Catfish and chicken fried steak are also stars of the menu, freshly made-to-order. The staff is friendly. The decor is, well, lacking. But give them time. This place, I hope, has the recipe for success. If you don't like fried food, this probably is the place for you. But if you do, you'll be returning often to the Honey Hole. read more

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. My brother and I stopped in on our way back to Shreveport and got the WORST experience ever. We waited 15 minutes for our waitress to take our order and then waited 30 minutes to get our order. When the plates came, the food was COLD. LITERALLY REFRIGERATOR COLD! When I asked to just pay for the drinks that we consumed, I was told to " just go. I regret I didn't take pictures, but definitely want to give a review. Visited the Honey Hole last evening with my husband after months of stalking their Facebook page lol (we live about 25 miles away). He had the special of the day which was prime rib (approx 14-16oz), a side, salad and Texas toast all for $20!!!! I ordered the small chicken fried steak plate (and I had enough for leftovers ). Hubby said the steak was seasoned well and my CFS was tasty. The sides were good as well (you can add salt and pepper to your taste) and they also offer complimentary beans. The atmosphere was welcoming as the staff were friendly. This was our first visit, but definitely will not be our last. read more

I would swear this was an old Catfish King building (their new location(2024)). Walked in and was greeted by lake and fishing motif. There were plenty of options on the menu, a side salad bar and complementary beans(spicy) for the liking. I got the grilled fish and it literally melted in my mouth. Ate at Honey Hole for my birthday on March 28th. Wanted the large chicken fried steak but they were out, so they agreed to give me 2 of the halves, which was basically the same thing. Chicken fried steak was fork tender, with good batter, and good gravy, toast and mashed potatoes. My one small nitpick would be that pretty much everything would have been taken up a notch with some seasoning, especially the chicken fried steak batter and gravy. My mom wanted shrimp but they were out, so she got fish. She basically echoed my sentiments that seasoning would definitely help, but said the coleslaw was good. My dad had a chicken sandwich, and said it was fine, but he was more complimentary of the beans, which came with the meal. He said they were great. My mother and I ordered fried pies for dessert and they were both good. Overall, I thought it was a good meal that could have easily creeped into 5 star territory with a few small changes. I've lived here for years and this was the best catfish in a restaurant that I've tasted for miles. This was not your regular ordered from the supplier and cook catfish they had to go and catch this themselves from the lake and fry it. It tasted like your uncle made it at the family fish fry and I'm glad I got to come. My waiter had some great personality and was helpful as we needed her. The decor for the time of the season was festive and you've gotta love creativity! I pray this place gets all the traffic it needs because it's definitely a Honey Hole for some great eats. read more
