We were offered free samples by an older, extremely friendly gentleman. This New Mexico girl loved the salted jalapeno pecans, naturally. Lol. They didn't have any pre-packed so I grabbed the "Hot-N-Spicy" variety - love them. My oldest chose "mocha madness" while my youngest gravitated towards chocolate fudge. My total came out to $91.96. While they do not shell the pecans themselves, they get them from the Pecan Capital of the World, San Saba, Texas. I walked away with three small individual bags and a 5-flavors "Texas" round tin for an early birthday gift for a special someone, my mom. I can't wait for her to open it because I forgot what flavors I chose. LOL. During my last visit to Marfa, I was lucky to be able to snag a visit to the Marfa Maid Goat Dairy…read morelocated just outside of town and owned and operated by the amazing Melinda and Allen. The tour of the dairy farm was the absolute highlight of my most recent Marfa trip. Melinda and Alan were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. In addition, to learning all about the cheese making process, how the goats are cared for, and how the dairy was founded - we also got to learn all about how our hosts wound up in Marfa running a dairy, as well as great local insight into Marfa and the surrounding areas. I simply can't rave enough about them both. In addition to that, let's not forget the other highlights of the trip - getting to pet cute, friendly goats to your heart's content AND sample some delicious cheeses. Unfortunately, it was not the right time of year for fresh cheese so we couldn't purchase any, but what we were able to sample was SO GOOD. A visit to this active dairy farm is a great way to spend an hour or so in this kitsch little art town located in the middle of the Texas desert and mountains.

We learned about their background, hung out with the adult goats and wandered over to the baby goat area last. Lastly, we took turns milking one of the goats. :) The goats are amazingly friendly and intelligent and the goat cheese is decadent and awesome! The whole experience took roughly and hour, but you can stay longer or shorter, it really depends on how your group is interacting.
