Even the parking lot was trash free, and there weren't a lot of stray carts lying around (that could either be a testament to Walmart being on top of their game, or to the people of Ft Stockton just being very courteous.. We may never know lol). The interior of the store was a LOT smaller than I have ever seen, but it had the basics. Enough to be called a supercenter, I reckon. The people were friendly, and not just the employees. It appeared to be a true small town walmart, where everyone is just plain friendly to everyone. People of Fort Stockton, although you may not realize it you have a gem in this Walmart. Trust me, I have seen MUCH worse!!

They even have a bulk section with a lot of spices, so that was nice. It is a little bit pricey but I guess that's the cost to pay to be autonomous in the desert for a few days. Definitely the best stop you can make before Big Bend National Park.

The new store is a nice upgrade, the prices are higher but looking at the travel to bring Alpine what it needs and the cost of shipping etc... I understand the higher price. This store is a good place to shop if you're in need, if you don't like what's offered then there are other options Dollar Store, Blue Water, and you can even have things shipped! The managers and staff are helpful and kind, personally I am happy with Our Porters, and living in a small town it's a puzzle piece that helps me get by and get the items that I want and need.

I was…read moreglad we stopped in Marathon because it's got a lot of cool stuff on its "main st" style strip, and while the French Company Grocer isn't fancy, it is surprisingly well-stocked with pretty much anything you could think of wanting to bring with you while you're camping or "glamping" in this beautiful part of Texas! The staff were also super nice and helpful, and we couldn't resist getting some of their homemade cookies that were absolutely delicious. If they have the cherry cookies while you're there, grab one! Heck, grab five and enjoy one while you're strolling down the strip of unique shops, just make sure you finish before you head into the little art gallery and gift shop, which is also a must-see!

The staff were very welcoming, greeting us as we came in. When deciding on a sandwich, you get to pick the bread, the meat, the veggies and the condiments so literally no two sandwiches could be alike. The sandwich also came with a side (we opted for the coleslaw and the fruit) and by far, it was a good little bite that held us over as we continued to explore the area. They have seating inside as well as outside and it's worth the stop and taking a peek inside.
