Was very impressed with the variety of merchandise stocked in this store!!! I honestly can't think of anything I would have needed that I couldn't find here. Produce looked fresh and the staff were extremely nice and helpful!!! read more

I think this is the closest grocery store to big bend from any direction (based on the map). It's a relatively small local place but they do have good stuff! There's a small beer and wine section, a small produce section, and of course they have plenty of pre packaged food and drinks in the back. They had pet food and gardening stuff in the front too. It's nice to have a little place like this in Study Butte for the community; I'd bet if you go a little farther eg into Terlingua there are other spots but this grocery store is like less than 10 mins from the entrance to big bend so it's very convenient if you need to pick something up on the way in or out of the park! read more

We found everything we needed. Great place, in the middle of almost nowhere, with so many interesting people and groceries.

THIS! If you find yourself in this area, stop by. Really nice, independent grocery store in an area where it's hard to find because the area is so rural. We stocked up as we headed into the park and their ample inventory was very appreciated. read more

This is a great convenient store. They have anything that you may have forgotten to bring with you. Although the price is quite a bit more then you would expect to pay, but in this remote area that is expected. Great shop and very nice customer service. read more

Well everyone says/recommends to get your grocery there. What they don't tell you that there is a dollar general a few yards away with a lot more groceries than the cottonwood. Selection is better. Meat looked old that had as well as other stuff did too. read more

Only been here once but they seemed to have a little bit of everything. We came for cheese and crackers, both were great. Associates were friendly as well. Easy parking and easy to get in and out of here quickly. read more

It was fine. The service was serviceable. I wanted ice cream and I got me some ice cream. It was clear that I was there the week after a busy tourist week and the staff was tired of us tourist types read more

"If they don't have it you don't need it!" That's what the locals told me when they recommended this place for picking up extra supplies on a trip out to Big Bend. I needed bug spray and some citronella candles to keep the bugs away after that awful first day of camping. This is the only store available in town and let me tell you, it has everything you could find/need from a big box store. I was amazed at how the owner keeps everything stocked and organize. One of the locals actually told me the owner 'takes request' for what to buy. This lady told me she is lactose intolerant and can only drink soy milk so she tells the owner to buy soy milk for her. Sure enough, he will get for you if you need it. If you like a certain brand of can soup, he will get it for you on his weekly shopping trip. He takes his trailer hitched to his truck all the way to Alpine once a week and buys supplies to sell at the store. And you thought your shopping list was long thinking about what this guy buys in bulk haha. I saw everything from cleaning supplies, frozen food to pet food and even electronics! Do keep in mind they do bring all these items from far away so that is reflected in the price you pay at the counter for these things. read more

Cottonwood General Store - Grocery Near Me - Terlingua, Texas

See all

The only decent grocery store I'm aware of in the area unless you want to drive a very long ways back to Marathon, Alpine or Marfa. To be honest, I'm not sure of the availability in the last two but they're well over an hour drive away, and Marathon only has the French Grocer which is somewhat limited. That said, pretty solid availability and is obviously serving this region with a little bit of everything. It's also part hardware store, part liquor store, etc. Only down side is don't expect a lot of fresh green vegetables. That's not necessarily the fault of the store I suspect. Anything that gets here also has to be driven a very long way in. On three visits for groceries, the cilantro was DOA. Laying flat and past due. Should have been tossed in my opinion. Also good: things like firewood for that Airbnb stay many here are engaging in. Camp fires are not allowed inside of the National Park but outside I'd guess no problem as long as you're very careful. We found the staff here to be engaged and friendly and pretty much everything we wanted we were able to pick up for our extended stay. Good to know as we travel to this area at least once a year but this was our first experience with the store. It's highly recommended. read more

What an amazing little place, a little of everything!! Stopped in to find sunglasses holders for a float trip....YES...they had some, along with one of everything else, it seemed. Awesome! read more

Great spot to stop for firewood, supplies or groceries. Easily accessible and well stocked.

I don't want to admit how many times we went here in five days but it was a lot! Nice little store packed full of goodies while you're visiting Terlingua and BBNP. Prices are a little inflated but thats expected and I was surprised at the quality of brands, like stuff you would find at Whole Foods and Sprouts then also regular Kroger and Target esque items. We grabbed fresh produce, snacks and stuff for dinner so we wouldn't have to eat out every meal. Staff was half and half with mask wearing and customers were mostly wearing masks. read more

Stopped in 3-4 times over the 5 days I spent in the Big Bend Nat'l Park/ Terlingua area. Had everything I needed along with hiking/camping gear if you needed some in a pinch!! Great environment & customer service on point!! Food & produce was fresh and beer was ice cold!! read more

An absolute gem of a place in the literal middle of nowhere. You'd think this place would have just the basics but no- they have so many amazing options from boutique to vegan to speciality to one of kinds to essentials. It was wild walking in here and seeing orange extract to bake a Bavarian chocolate cake using coconut flour and fresh almond milk. Like what!! Anyway, I just wanted a Gatorade zero and some Doritos after a hike at Big Bend and they had many options. It's only 20ish miles from the main trailheads. read more

It was so nice to have this small cute little grocery store close by when traveling. We were able to find everything we needed one night to make an entire meal. Very clean and friendly staff. read more

Has what you need from a few staples to trailer parts. Enough to keep you going. Obviously nothing is cheap- it's been brought in to get you out. Staff was nice. read more

Great little grocery store. Has a good selection considering its size. Prices in general were not bad. We went here several times during our trip and always found what we needed. read more

This is the nicest store in the Big Bend area and they have everything rom produce to marshmallows!

You can truly get just about anything here...except decency. The older lady behind the counter was as rude as I have encountered. I am not sure if she didn't realise that we could hear her nasty remarks about other shoppers or the attitude when we went to purchase. She walked away mid service for us and made rude remarks about a very polite gentleman who was merely asking for a price on an item. Will not shop here again as I like to keep my dignity. Oh and a total lack of masks from either staff during a global pandemic was not a good look. read more

This is a great grocery store that has everything that you could think of. I was surprised at the amount of gluten free items that could be found in such a small store. This is a great place to stop and get extra supplies or a snack. read more

Great, small store with a good selection of pantry and fresh food items....meat, vegetables, etc. They have most basic items that you might need and some specialty items as well. The store hours are also very convenient. read more

They have ice grapes veggies water food ! Everything you need going into Big Bend! Nice clean store with nice people.

Really great place for a small town! They have everything you can imagine in this store. The variety will definitely blow your mind. The price of course is higher then normal but with supply & demand that's to be expected for this ghost town. You'll stumble across things you don't see at your normal grocery store which is nice to try new things also. read more

If you're staying in the Terlingua area, this is a great place to stop for just about every need you may have. Great service, fresh produce, and just a quaint shop to grab a variety of items. read more

Nicely stocked grocery store right in front of big bend national park. This little store greatly exceeded our expectations for the location. It has just about anything you would need to make a meal. Was shocked to find a store out here so well stocked. Both my wife and I have to watch the ingredients in the things we buy and were pleasantly surprised to find so many of the brands we normally buy. Wonderful staff as well. read more

They have overcharged my credit card EVERY SINGLE TIME I've used it at this store. Be careful!!

Seriously, you can get just about anything here. The selection is amazing for such a small space.

So...you are out in the West Texas desert...patchy cell reception...you are running low on supplies...you are worried...WELL DON'T BE! I was in Terlingua with friends, including ones from Napa Valley, Santa Cruz, San Diego and Dallas. To a person everyone was taken back by the quantity and quality of what this store carries. So....if you are headed to Terlingua or the surrounding area, you don't need to haul a bunch of stuff with you...Cottonwood will hook you up! read more

What a gem in the middle of no where! They have just about everything you could want or need. The staff is very helpful. If you can't find something, just ask. If you're going into Big Bend NP, this is your last chance for a real grocery store. The camper stores in the park are very hit or miss and not for real 'grocery shopping' - more like snacks & drinks. The staff is very friendly and good at their jobs. read more

This is my local grocery store servicing BBNP, Study Butte, Terlingua, and Lajitas. For such a remote area, the Cottonwood Store has about anything you could want or need. Thanks Rick for your great work and loyalty to our community. read more

A quaint little grocery that has most everything you need. Somehow, they even sell Great Value and Ozark Trail products.

We visited for some essentials when staying in terlingua for our big bend visit. They had everything we needed and more. Prices are a bit high which is to be expected. The staff was so friendly and the store was very clean and well-organized. Glad to have a place like this during a busy time when restaurants in the area were unable to accommodate visitors! read more

We concur that this little gem deserves the 5 star reviews - amazing variety of food stuff, snacks and assorted items that are stocked here. They have added a selection of plants recently. There was a good variety of organic, vegan, organic, etc. Cold drinks, lots of snacks and friendly staff - highly recommended. read more
