We showed up right when they opened so the food took a little bit longer since only 1 man was taking the orders, making the drinks, and cooking the food. A scratch bakery in this small town! They carry local products as well as their own belied goods. Sourdough bread was a bit costly... but loaded with flavor (made it into Toasted BLT). Cranberry pecan scone was crunchy and soft. They have precut and wrapped variety of quick breads. We tried apple, zucchini... they both were soft and had flavor. A bit sweet for my taste. My daughters and I came to pick up some breakfast sandwiches at Bread Garden Bakery on the mid-morning of 2.16.2025. I could tell right away that the food orders were backed up. It turns out we weren't all that hungry, but my oldest wanted to try some cake. We waited for what seemed forever. It was almost 15 minutes. A small group of women - most likely best friends - all met to have breakfast here. The couple in line behind us left while we waited to reach the register. It seems like a good place to meet up for coffee, but even for that I didn't want to wait. Sunday morning rush! Lol. Took visiting family here for breakfast. The avocado toasts were terrible - a thin green mayonnaise type spread with over cooked eggs with a dried out turkey slice on the side. No real avocado. Husband's breakfast was missing the gravy and when it arrived he couldn't eat his breakfast after he poured it on. We tasted it with our finger tips and it tasted like melted oily margarine with flour. The taste was difficult to get out of our mouths. Doubt we will return. read more

Waited 30 min for 2 cups of coffee!! Coffee wasn't the greatest either. Sorry but not what we expected. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast. This bakery is in a small Texas town. With that said keep in mind, there was one person working the whole operation while we were onsite. The gentleman was very nice. He was working not only the cash register, but also cooking the food. I recommend patience when you visit. Most small towns operate on a slower pace. We stopped in while charging our Tesla and the car was fully charged before we got our very simple food order. We were the only four people in the joint and it took over 45 minutes to get 3 egg sandwiches and a waffle. I'm really surprised this bakery doesn't have a Yelp account. I walked in to fresh baked sourdough bread, cookies, & muffins. I've heard their cinnamon rolls and croissants are amazing. I'll have to stop by earlier next time to try those before they run out. They carry my favorite chocolate brand from the hill country (chocolates El Rey). I purchased quite a few packages of the bark. They also sell Big Bend Coffee Roasters so I purchased the dark skies. This bakery is super cute and the service was fantastic!! Well, read a number of good reviews. Wife and I went on Monday morning. Not a soul in the place. But reviews were great and it being Monday morning, I figured probably their slowest morning. Biscuit sandwich a coffee latte and a scone was around $27. My latte was barely warm. Had to ask for creamer for coffee as non was set out. My scone was far from fresh. Wife ate about a 1/3 of biscuits sandwich. Pictures of this place shows fresh loafs of bread. Not a one in sight. Attendant seem as though didn't want to be there. We are traveling through. Maybe just a one-off bad experience. Threw everything away and went to another place that is similar with a big crowd and basically the same Tyler of purchase with extremely friendly personnel for $14. read more

We stopped in Alpine on the way to big bend, and I was lucky enough to stumble into this cute bakery. They have high quality sandwiches, a solid selection of drinks, and a very welcoming staff. Highly recommend! The rosemary bread is sooo good. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I love sourdough baked goods; especially sourdough croissants. They are not easy to make. But I expect a bakery to know how to properly bake everything they sell. The croissant I bought here was raw on the bottom 3rd. I can't in good conscience recommend any bakery that sells underbaked products. There is no excuse for this. On a positive note I did have a fairly tasty sourdough cinnamon roll. The girl at the counter asked if I wanted frosting on it and Of course I said yes. But then she couldn't get the frosting to come out of the squeeze bottle. Overall not a great experience. read more

Ended up with a sandwich from the cooler that had no meat (that was clearly listed on the label as having meat) and I ended up having to bring it to the staff's attention so it could be added. Bread Garden is my new favorite Alpine, TX restaurant! The food is seriously fresh, local and scrumptious! Her lamb sandwiches are off the hook with tender lamb and superb hard cheeses! It's VERY filling and wonderfully different from any other food offerings you will find in Big Bend. The salads are tasty and exotic! But my very favorite food at bread garden, (besides the amazing sourdough breads) is the Brownie! Chuncks of gourmet chocolate in a dense blend of goodness. Try one and you will be so glad you did! Probably one of the most delightful aspects of Bread Garden is the affordable pricing. You can get a big delicious filling lunch for under $20! ALSO, they are open when everywhere else to eat in Alpine/Marfa is closed! So much goodness in this business! read more

Coming from houston, I'm totally a foodie. I will say this place was delicious!! And honestly really cool that they had keto options!! She also had her children in the room and they were so cute also wearing little aprons !!! but more on the food, they were delicious and tasted very fresh! All bread is indeed homemade! We stopped here on the way to Big Bend for coffee and a bite to eat. There was one super nice woman working the counter AND she was training someone else to prep food/coffee. It was very difficult for the two to keep up, and this was a Tuesday morning around 10:30! She couldn't have been nicer (it was impressive how unruffled she seemed) and even offered to refund us because of the wait. I appreciated the gluten free options. I hope they found a way to better support the staff to handle the traffic this place obviously gets. read more
