My husband and I stopped in Marathon for some breakfast on our way to Big Bend and the food/ coffee was worth the 30 min drive from our overnight stop in Alpine, TX! I got a Ham, Egg and Cheese Croissant and my husband got an Egg Sandwich. Both breakfast sandwiches tasted great! We also both got coffees that hit the spot! We're pretty plain re: coffees. We get either black cold brews or black iced coffees. We're just looking for the extra caffeine which V6 nailed!! Service was great- the employee we interacted with was so kind and personable! I was visiting Big Bend National Park and visited here over the two days I was there... so happy for this place! First off, the address directions via GPS were not correct, it's actually a block down from where GPS leads you... so, after circling around a couple of times, I finally found it. It was worth the effort... I had both the Mexican hot chocolate and the matcha. Very yummy, and just the energy I needed early in the morning for the drives to Big Bend NP and back to Amarillo, respectively. A friend got the yogurt and fruit and found it very filling with a side of breakfast potatoes. On both days I got a burrito. They added avocado and sour cream which gave just the right touch to an already delicious burrito. The staff was so friendly and answered questions about menu items and customizing options. The house kitty was also very friendly. The cafe is small, but there was no problem with seating early in the morning. The artwork on the walls is interesting and western in theme. I stopped by here after getting bbq a few doors down. This is a lovely coffee shop, albeit a little pricey. I loved the decor inside and the vibes overall. I got a Mexican mocha latte with soy milk, which was good but not amazing. I don't think it was worth $6.75, but still a good warm beverage to wash down the bbq. read more

This is a great spot for both morning beverages/food and tasty lunches. We ate lunch here twice and grabbed coffee and matcha for the road to Big Bend. The counter service is friendly and the ambiance is vibrant with contemporary takes on western art on the walls. For the lunch, when you have the choice of chips or pasta salad - go with the pasta salad! The dressing has great flavor and they use a unique blend of veggies that adds to the dish. Both days I went with the Turkey Ruben. They use thick, flavorful slices of turkey and the bread was soft with the great marbled flavor. My husband had the French dip the first day. The only feedback he had was the size of the sandwich was a bit on the smaller end for him so he didn't fill up. The second time, he ordered the Club Sandwich that features the same thick flavorful turkey. V6 coffee is a quant breakfast spot with a lot of options. When we arrived it was close to 11am and were asked if we wanted to lunch or breakfast menu. We asked if we could see both to decide to which we were told it was only one of the other. It was a bit odd but we choose breakfast. After we ordered a traditional breakfast and pancakes. For beverages we grabbed a latter and sweets an espresso cookie. The space inside V6 is visually captivating and it adorned with what I think is local arts take on west Texas. Each painting is colorful and intriguing. Our traditional breakfast plate was nothing outside of the ordinary traditional breakfast. I will say the eggs were a bit over done but the bacon and sausage were crispy enough. As for the pancakes there was the perfect amount of chocolate chips and the flavor had a hint of sweetness to partner with it. The pancakes are a must if you stop. The espresso cookie was large and chunky I anticipated a soft gooey center but was met with crisp only. The cookies flavor was off as if possibly ready to be replaced for purchasing. All in all we really Enjoyed V6...especially the shops connected through a door way that offered trinkets and more local art for sale. The best thing about everything was the people who ate there and worked there while we visited. It sounded like there were regulars and no matter if you are a first timer or an Alpine resident your greeted with a smile and just good feeling conversation. If ever you have a chance to drive through Alpine or are driving back from Big Bend V6 should be an added stop. read more

We spent three mornings at the Gage and ate breakfast at V6 every day. The food was great! My husband loved his breakfast burrito, and the migas was another favorite of ours. I ended up having the avocado toast with smoked salmon twice because it was so perfect. We ordered lattes with each meal, and they were excellent! Being a barista myself, I really appreciated V6! The Mexican Mocha is delightful and we had pumpkin spice lattes one morning for the heck of it and thoroughly enjoyed them! The vibes are good and the gallery/store next door is cute! After four days camping at Big Bend National Park without hookups, and an oh dark 30 wake up call to get a jump on a long driving day through Texas, I really only needed two things: a hot shower, and a hot coffee. Since the former was several hours away at a hotel, my bride and I settled in for the long drive from the back corner of the park to the nearest coffee joint in Marathon. We arrived around 8 AM, drop the speed to 25 through town, and found enough curb for the truck and trailer. Cute little town, I thought, here on US 90. A fellow that looked like a regular was sitting outside at a small table enjoying the relatively cooler start to it promise to be a hot Texas day, and I went inside. The young fellow behind the counter greeted me with a good morning, and took my order for two hot coffees, straight up. He managed to sell me on a couple of berry-filled empanadas that were wrapped in a basket on the counter, after he told me they were out of muffins and such. The coffee's were brewed fresh, and while I waited for a few moments, regarding the inside of the establishment. Plenty of wood tables on wood floors, low lighting, and what appears to be local artists paintings hanging on the walls. Seems like the type of place I would hang out and write a screenplay. If I lived here. Or If I was a screenwriter. Instead, I snapped a photo, resigning myself to the fact that most of my writing is in the yelp review format these days... And maybe someday (or more accurately, today) I would get around to sharing my experience of a cool little coffee shop, on the side of the road, in a quaint little town that you'll probably never visit. Stopped by for coffee and a quick bite to eat in the morning before heading towards Big Bend. The Barista was awesome. Quick, cool, professional. The coffee followed just as well except it was higher in the temperature scale! I went with the biscuits and gravy because I'm still working to max out my cholesterol. That and I just love good biscuits and sausage gravy. It came out kind of wonky. The biscuits were really wimpy. I must be binge watching too much of the "Great British Bake Off" because I can hear a judge with a Scottish accent telling me that it hadn't been "proofed properly". Not sure that's the real reason it is kind of deflated, but it's funny imagining it. The gravy was awesome with this subtle heat kick from the jalapeno's. I'm going to take of one star for being a bit pricey, but otherwise it was a perfect quick stop. I had a large Mexican mocha (cinnamon) and an avocado toast. They also have a variety of healthy fruit smoothies, muffins & cookies. The Gage Hotel anchors the town of Marathon, and this seems to be their go to coffee joint. It was crowded at 10 am on a Sunday in February, but the staff diligently fulfilled the orders. There's both inside & outside seating, and the place has a classy, sophisticated Texas vibe. Oh man this place is good! And a welcome relief driving out of Big Bend and eating camp food for four days! The migas were amazing! My fiancée (we got engaged at the big bend in Big Bend!) got the biscuits and jalapeño gravy with sausage and it was delightfully spicy, not too spicy, and really good. The coffee was sooo good after drinking percolated coffee off a Coleman for four days! (Not bad either, but it ainno coffee shop cawfee!) My only complaints would be the use of plastic utensils. I get that it's convenient but you're already washing the plates...why not silverware? They do charge for coffee refills, but it is good coffee and large coffee refills are a buck. The service was great and very friendly and prompt. We come to BB a lot, so we will be back! Love this place! read more

I spent a night at the Gage Hotel in Marathon. While V6 Coffee Bar is owned by Gage, it's not actually inside the hotel. It's a block away. We grabbed some takeout on the day we checked out. This coffee bar served breakfast and lunch and we barely missed breakfast so lunch it was. I ended up getting an egg sandwich that ended up being just alright. Pretty similar to what it would taste like if I made it myself. Not a bad spot if you're in a hurry but I wouldn't go out of my way. On a good note, they also have smoothies which is always a win in my book. Got one of those bad boys for the road too. read more

The iced vanilla latte is perhaps my favorite of all coffee drinks. They make those perfectly here. Also, they have a great-tasting classic breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, etc.. None of it tasted bad. My wife had avocado toast. She really liked it. At least I think she did. She ate nearly all of it, anyway. The artwork on the wall was really awesome when I was here in December 2021 - some guy named Eric Tippeconnic. I wanted to buy one of his original paintings that hung on the wall, but it was freaking $5000! Come to find out, Eric Tippeconnic is a fairly well-known artist - his work was recently on exhibit in the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. I guess once you are good enough to have your work displayed in such a place you can get away with charging whatever you want for your art. read more

In Marathon, your options are VERY limited. This coffee shop/cafe is connected to the Gage Hotel, as is just about everything on this street. It's a little pricey as you're in a remote area. Good breakfast burrito and other breakfast options if you're wanting to sit and eat. What to get: smoothie, latte (extra hot) & breakfast. I didn't try the sandwiches, but they looked like a good to go option if you're heading into the park. There's a decent size gift shop attached to the place as well and restrooms. The coffee drinks were never quite hot enough and when I asked for a full up of my water bottle, I got warm water. Other than that, good place to stop. read more

Coffee isn't very flavorful or good but it's there are not a lot of options. The menu is odd and doesn't fit the culinary experience of the kitchen. Their avocado toast is not seasoned, or prepared well. It's toast with avocado and tomatoes stacked on top....yum, I guess ‍ Wife had the migas and said it was good. Kinda reminds me of the coffee I get at the airport. Staff are nice. Cute, clean space but the coffee is not great. You know the times you get a cup and after that first sip you know. You know this is watered down trash coffee. Of the four venues at the Gage the V6 imo is the outlier. They need to work on their bean roasts and get decent espresso. Then work on improving the menu. I'm not sure why this place has such good ratings. The food is overpriced and the portions are tiny. All the dishes, with the exception of plates and utensils, are disposable so your small breakfast is contributing tremendously to the overfilled landfills. My sister had scrambled eggs, which cost $12 and were gone in two bites. I had a side of potatoes (5 tiny pieces of undercooked potato) and an oatmeal ($7 for a tiny paper cup of regular oat meal). Left hungry and $35 poorer. The only good thing was the drip coffee. My sister had a latte, which she couldn't finish because apparently it was terrible (and, of course, very expensive). I had regular drip coffee, which was surprisingly very good. Service was mediocre and the space is nice. There is a good amount of seating inside and outside. Pretty photographs, which inexplicibly are on sale for a whopping $300 each, hang on the walls. Will not be back, I'd rather be hungry and keep my money. read more

First stop in the area when the wife and I zoomed into town driving our convertibles. Weird thing was, our tops weren't down till we hit Marathon. We drove from just outside of Austin across I-10 thru gloom and even a little ice. That all disappeared about 50 miles before like the clouds parted just for us when we arrived. A bit of a chill still in the air; we decided a hot beverage would warm us up quite nicely. We stepped into V6 waiting a few moments to order with me picking a small Mexican mocha latte and the wife a dirty chai latte with almond milk. I loved my drink; wife thought hers tasted like pine sol and dishwater. We actually left it on the counter. Main reason for the average star rating was the staffers. Not even remotely friendly or overly helpful. We were still standing outside when one of them asked about the drink we left. We told her it was unacceptable and she just went back in and closed the door. No offer to even replace the drink. read more

The barista greeted everyone like a local even though, let's face it, nearly everyone coming here is passing through. We're here because it's the last hint of civilisation before going into Big Bend. Which means they could have gotten away with being mediocre at best. When you're the only option, you don't have to go above and beyond. Yet, they do. The coffee was excellent. All I had was a bagel (I'm a light eater) but they still treated me as if I was buying out the store. If I'm ever passing through Marathon again, I will absolutely be going back.
