    Steak Frites

It's easy to miss but worth trying to find. Service was friendly. It's a bar with food, not a restaurant with drinks, so there wasn't a large selection but the Steak Frites were excellent. It was busy on a Sunday night which was interesting but tables turned quickly. I would go back to try some of the other cocktails. After having sotol in Terlingua, I was interested to find it in Alpine in an Old Fashioned but it was very tasty. Next time, we'll visit the patio outside - it was a bit chilly for us that day.

Prickly pear and old fashioned- both fantastic!

Delicious burgers and yummy cocktails! While a little pricey for a burger, it was really good and we were happy to find something open on Christmas evening. Cool spot! Service was friendly and helpful. Very casual and comfortable!

We were disappointed to discover that the bar in the Holland Hotel was closed for renovation. We are here for a week in our motorhome at the Lost Alaskan campground, which is also a great place. After a little research, we decided to try the Alcove Social. I'm glad we did. It's a comfortable place and the bartender welcomed us as we walked through the door. I noticed that she welcomed everyone as they walked in. As I said, it is a comfortable and welcoming place with a better than decent bar. We sat at the bar and had a hand-made margarita with all fresh, in-house made ingredients. Bartender asked what tequila we preferred. They use fresh squeezed lime juice and in-house made triple sec. The rita was delicious. One of the best I have had. The young lady tending bar was very social, considerate, and knowledgeable. I cannot recall her name, but she hails from Nebraska and her Great Plains upbringing shines. The whole thing was so enjoyable that we will be back in a day or two for another rita and will try the food. They also have live music on weekends. Looking forward to returning. EDIT: Returned on August 2nd to listen to music and eat. Neon Leon was the performer. He is a Texas Singer/Songwriter of sorts who plays both electric and acoustic guitar (with a pickup). He was really enjoyable and had quite a repertoire including some very good songs he wrote. Just him and his guitar and that is all that was needed. Several locals were there listening and providing some great conversation. This is a great place. We tried shrimp on pita bread and it was flavorful and delicious. The menu is simple and food is well presented.

I was in the middle of my epic journey to hike through 5 national parks in 9 days and was tired from driving so dropped off my stuff at the hotel and sat down at the bar (more like a gastro-pub!) and had two of the local beers... loved the Hopadillo! Had the trout and mashed potatoes... delicious and not too heavy since I was going to be hiking a lot the next day. The bartender was fabulous and keeping up with all of the customers by herself and while training a new person. Ambiance was impressive... there was karaoke on the back patio and everyone was having fun... I was tired and kept to myself at the bar. Highly recommend this restaurant/gastropub... everything went very well!

I suggest you take the labels off your apples before slicing and serving them in a salad. Also, cutting out the core would be appreciated.

Getting there, though, felt like stepping backward in time--partly paved roads, weathered buildings, and aging homes that quietly carry the town's long history. Then, almost abruptly, Sentinel Marfa appears as a striking contrast. The building is crisp and modernist, the kind of clean, intentional design you'd expect in a big-city neighborhood, not tucked into a rugged, historic West Texas landscape. Inside, that contrast continues. The high ceilings and open, airy layout give the space a contemporary calm, while scattered tables display local art, newspapers, and small curios that root it firmly in Marfa's creative spirit. A hallway beside the ordering counter leads to a quieter back room, which in turn opens to an outdoor area shaded by a massive oak tree. The place was buzzing, full enough that we ended up sharing a table with another family, which somehow felt fitting in a town like this. Coffee is ordered at the counter, with both staff and baristas displaying some of that West Texas charm and with a smile. Drinks are picked up at the counter while food finds its way to you. The coffee drinks are crafted with beans from Picacho Coffee Roasters. Straight coffee and lattes were exceptional, and the breakfast tacos, made fresh with fluffy eggs, cheese, and potatoes, delivered exactly what we needed. By the time we left, we felt not just caffeinated, but welcomed and ready to explore a place where time seems to move at its own deliberate pace.

My husband and I were driving back to Austin from California and decided to pull over, catch a basketball game, and grab a bite to eat. What we didn't expect was one of the most genuinely welcoming experiences we've had on the road. From the moment we walked in, every single person we encountered was incredibly kind, warm, and inviting. It didn't feel like we were just customers passing through--it felt like we were being welcomed into a community. The food was fantastic! The street tacos were hands-down the highlight--fresh, flavorful, and some of the best we've had anywhere. And the prices were more than fair. One of the most memorable parts of our visit was being given a tour of the backyard area. The team shared that it had recently suffered a fire, but they were still proud to show us the space and even invited us back once it's fully restored. That kind of openness and resilience really stuck with us. Oh--and we can't forget Tito and Becky, the two sweetest cats who made the experience even more special. Joe's Place isn't just a stop for food--it's a place full of heart. We'll absolutely be back next time we're passing through. Thanks Joes place!
