My friend left his card at the bar. Marsha, the bartender took it home for some odd reason and then "misplaced" it. A charge of 170 showed up on his account... The Blues couldn't pull up the transaction, no idea why? I guess she felt it was okay to leave herself a HUGE $100 tip. When confronted about the situation, she just tried to kick him out of the bar. I've heard from so many people of this behavior from her when she worked at the Crystal Bar and I find it very sad and unfortunate it's continuing at a different bar in town. It's a small community we live in, this kind of shit isn't okay. So, if she's working, I recommend people look at their receipts when closing out, don't leave your card, and just be aware. Prejudicial Establishment (keep clear) No stars. My best friend, a 69 year old tourist visiting Alpine, Arizona, kind as the day is long, was in Railroad Blues for Karaoke night. He was likely the oldest person in the bar. He had never seen Karaoke and was curious. The place was bouncing off the wall, packed full. My friend has very long hair and is often mistaken for Native American. He was walking out to get air when he was surrounded by four hostile young men (bouncers?) screaming obscenities at him. He was entirely mystified and feared for his safety. They walked him out of the bar to a waiting police car. He was put in handcuffs and spent the night in jail, the charge (public intoxication). He was without his prescriptions and ate the cost of a triple digit hotel room. It took a year for the case to be dismissed. There was no evidence, no breath test, no complaints. He was drinking in a Public House. It was a cut and dry case of racial or perhaps age profiling. You tell me what you think my friend was guilty of? Stay clear of this place if you are not white. Bad, bad juju folks. read more

It had great atmosphere a beautiful Roaring fire pit and excellent band. except the 5 people there didn't know Mawzy the band was playing. I couldn't give it any more stars and would have gave less if not for those things that made up for the bad attitude manager. On a Friday night a place like that should be hopping. I've known hole in the walls to have more people. people love a crowd and without one, it ain't no fun . When I asked how did they advertise because no one was in there, she said Facebook . someone should tell her that Facebook algorithms doesn't put the idea of a good time at your place front and center on anyone's feed. The sign they currently have outside is faded and as it's a one way , you can't even tell this place is there if you're not already familiar. One of her employees had access to one of those big huge Arrow Signs with lights where you can list the band names for only $100. When I smiled and started mentioning that it would look great on the far side in the grass so visible from the road she cut me off with snooty " I've been a manager for 19 years and the locals know we're here.! and didn't want me mentioning any other ideas I had as if not being interested in growing the business and making it better is a way to stay open or profitable. The employees said they no longer had a PR person and it shows. I was shocked by how she reacted so ungracious and defensively and I replied I was only trying to be helpful and kind. She actually said, so was she! Ha. this place is on 67 the main road from Mexico. Many of us Americans are heading across the border to get dental work done. The place could benefit by reaching out to Travelers. Hey even advertise a new drink special called Novacaine for people who got work done that week. Lol. While locals may know it's there, they also need to be reminded. Passive advertising like flyers and a road sign can help decide someone's evening impulsively. This is a really great place. I went here for the open mic night. When my friends and I came here, the bouncer casually asked if we were border patrol, which we all got a kick out of. This bar features a large fire pit where a guy comes and throws a couple of shipping pallets on top every few minutes. There is a lot of cowboy stuff everywhere and a beautiful painted portrait of George W. Bush by the stage. Also there is a large selection of cheap to nice beers. And all the people that hang out there are really friendly. read more

There was a time back in the 90s when this bar was the only good place to hang out in Alpine. Now that all the damn hippies have moved in and the big city refugees have staked a claim in the local "ranchettes," there's more crap than crystal in Alpine. Still, the Railroad Blues is the place to be. Richard Fallon has done a fantastic job in keeping this the best little bar West of the Pecos. People go to West Texas for the land, but they miss out on a great opportunity if they don't spend time with the locals. Of course, try to leave your metropolitan arrogance and biases in the desert up along I-10. There's no place for your kind on the frontier. You won't last. read more

While this place may be known for its music, the drinks leave a lot to be desired. We ordered Long Island Iced Teas which were sour-- yes, sour. We could not drink the LIITs because they were so sour. The bartender said she made them with Sweet and Sour mix-- yuck. We left the drinks and the place. I do not plan on returning. read more

Great find in a small town. Huge beer selection, including some gluten-free options, and lots of wine. A huge bonfire and motorcycles welcomed us off the highway, and the band playing that night came and sat with us before their set. After a 7 hour drive from Austin to Alpine, TX I was pleased to see an open bar 2 blocks from our hotel. It was 1:15 am in the morning and I was on a mission to get in at least 1 drink before last call. The outside of the bar is much like most bars in Austin, with a food trailer in the front and college students hanging out by a fire pit. As we walk in we are instantly greeted at the door by a bouncer insisting we smile before entering. I oblige, the husband not so much but after seeing the despair in my eyes (we cannot be denied a drink at likely the only open bar in town) he slightly smirks and we are in. Del Castillo was rapping up on stage and locals were dancing away. We made a B line for the bar and as we wait to order a drink I hear a female exclaim "watch I am going to grab this girl's a$$ and she is not going to do anything about it". I glance at my husband who is glancing back and forth between the two of us and I think to myself I am way to sober for such shenanigans and what kind of place did I bring us too. I decide to ignore her and work on making eye contact with the bartender. Then the lady proceeds to grope my butt as if she were shopping for fresh produce. My eyes get big I slightly glance back to see a lady closer to twice my age than not appearing as if she was going to go for it again, sigh. Then she exclaims "watch I am going to do it again!". OK now I completely turn around to face her and she instantly apologizes she had mistaken my a$$ for someone else's and it turns out she is the owner. Score, we got a free round! Despite the interesting "welcome" to Railroad Blues the staff was nice and would describe as interesting characters, they have a good beer and wine selection (they were out of most of their wine but still not bad) and a strong red sangria. read more

After visiting the Lost Horse in Marfa, Railyard Blues was a vision of Shangri-La! Firstly, RB has TouchTunes, which in my book, is a party! The locals were friendly. Some were shady towards us because... tourists, but the drinks are cold, the atmosphere is fun and they're open late. Can't beat that! read more

We drove an hour and a half out of our way on our trip across countryside for this place because this place looks so cool .we were excited that we were gonna hear some good blues music and country music and we could dance. Well when we got there let's just say that was not the deal it was horrible rap music no live music just the jukebox we gave it a chance ststayed here for a beer didn't change the whole time. Lots of ceiling tiles have came down due to water damage and you could see the mold up in the insulation they should cover that ceiling tiles are very cheap. Could be a very awesome place. My friends and I have been thrown out of this bar more than once-much deserved since I was an under aged college girl. After I turned 21 we spent many nights getting giddy by the fire and dancing, swinging and two stepping. Made my nights memorable as an SRSU Biology grad. 94-00. My Chemistry professor even bought me a drink for graduating in this bar (Dr. Houston). Loved the rockabilly feel. Still go back with my college bestie about every 5 years to drink the sangria and look for my name on the wall. Gawd that Sangria is heavenly and STRONG. This place is ok, but the service is not so great. The owner/ manager lady looks sad and pissed off all the time. The bartenders don't greet you and they also look like it's a burden that they are working. Never have I been to an establishment where owner/manager and staff seem like they don't appreciate the customer. Also they don't make accurate drinks. If you ask for something, they give you their version of the drink/shot. So technically your not getting what your asking for. But they say this is how we make them. I asked for vegas bombs with crown peach Malibu and Red Bull. But they told me they only make it with crown, peach and Red Bull. So if you try and correct them or ask them how you want your drink, they are happy enough to kick you out. read more

We had pretty bad experience in this bar. During Artwalk weekend we sat outside of this bar to eat a hot dogs from the mobil hot dog stand with intention only to eat and go. We ordered some drinks from the bar as well. The bouncer approached us and demanded $12 per person for the privilege to be there because there was band playing inside and some other band from Austin will be playing in hour or two. We did not have any intention to listen to this band and even stay that long but there was no discussion with the staff and manager we had to pay and got the wrist bands. We were very upset and felt ripped off . We were not informed ahead of time that using the picnic table 50 feet from the bar will cost $12/person . The bouncer saw us there and did not say anything ,did not react when we were buying drinks and did not informed about the band. We gave them enough business buying drinks so we felt abused at that point. I do not recommend this bar . Very greedy. read more
