Sadly, we found this gem on our last day in Alpine. Probably good that we did, otherwise I might have eaten my weight in fluffy, tender, delicious pastries! The cake doughnuts were some of the best I've ever eaten and the long John with Bavarian cream was a melt in your mouth cloud! My coworkers in van horn request for those of us commuting from Alpine to bring them as a treat! The boxes are sturdy enough to transport and they taste fresh! We were traveling through Alpine on our way to Big Bend and were in the mood for a sweet morning treat. Not only did Bakers Dozen Donuts satisfy our craving, we also left with delicious kolaches! I had never had a kolache before but figured it was the perfect time to try one when we saw the posters advertising them on the glass windows outside the shop, but when we walked inside and immediately saw they were fresh out of them we were devastated! But there was no reason to fear, the extremely friendly staff offered to give us a call in 20 minutes once the batch that was cooking was done. We had some errands to run in town anyway so we took care of those and came back for our donuts and kolaches after we got the call. Best. Donuts. Ever. They were so soft and fresh and the kolaches were the absolute perfect snack for the road trip ahead. So much, that when we road tripped back through Alpine a few days later after our trip to Big Bend we stopped there again and got the same order as before. Sure enough, their donuts and kolaches were once again the perfect treat. If we ever find ourselves in Alpine we will for sure make time to stop at Bakers Dozen Donuts! I don't eat donuts at home, but when I come to Texas there are so many local donut shops. I always stop at Baker's Dozen when I'm in Alpine. Lots of varieties of donuts, eclairs, and donut holes. They also have kolaches and sausage rolls. Big self-service coolers with juices and cold drinks, and of course coffee is served. Friendly folks give a warm welcome every time. We parked our 24ft rv in a shared parking lot near the road planning on doing laundry at the laundromat and getting a donut. The lot was less than half full and the spots next to the businesses were not used. We were parked for less than 2 minutes when the donut shop owner came out yelling we couldn't park there and threatening to call the police. All he had to do was ask us to move but he took it to 1000% from the get go. What a jerk! And to top it off the posted hours indicate the donut shop isn't even open after noon. read more

We loved the small business intimacy and service. The owner is so friendly and happy to welcome guests. If that wasn't enough to make your day, the donuts and kolaches will be the cherry on top...or the donut glaze on top. They had several "fill to order" donuts where you can choose the donut type and your filling of choice. In almost 40 years of living, I've never had this option and I felt like a kid in a donut shop. Donuts were amazing - lightly crisped on the outside, while soft and doughy inside. They fill the donuts when you order to keep them from getting soggy. Reminds me of what donuts tasted like as a kid, before all the chains came along and "mediocritized" everything. This is a cute, small shop and easy to find for those traveling through, and it has great hours. The real issue for us is that they packed all five of our donuts in one small bag, so they were smushed like pancakes by the times I got home. Stopped here during our overnight stay in Alpine, and don't let its simplicity fool you! These donuts are DELICIOUS. it's a family owned store and they are all so sweet and welcoming. It is heartwarming to support a nice family business. When I talked to them, they mentioned moving in a few months, so I am not sure how much longer they will be open but try to visit if you can. read more

So it's been two weeks since my trip out to west Texas and my mind is still on these dang donuts. I came across this place on Yelp before we were about to head back to Houston and thought: How good can these donuts be? They're just donuts. 5 stars in a small town? Psh. It can't be THAT great. I WAS WRONG. Have you ever had a donut that is so soft and airy that it feels like you're biting into a pillow? Have you had donuts that withstood time and continued to stay soft and airy the following day? Have you ever randomly picked like 10 random donuts and they ALL tasted amazing?? Have you had a kolache in a freakin croissant?! I'm still in shock by how good these are. I talk about them all the time to my friends. If you're traveling and visiting the area, please do yourself a favor and stop by BD! The friendly staff and patrons make the experience that much better. I recommend the kolaches, blueberry (tastes like a blueberry muffin morphed into a donut), cinnamon roll, apple fritter, the bavarian cream filled (freshly filled on the spot too!), and the classic glazed and glazed donut holes. Omg, I can not even explain how good these donuts are. Light, fluffy, moist, airy, and with a slightly sweet glaze. And that's just the plain donuts. Add when I saw donut holes with chocolate frosting, I was heaven. They were so delicious, I wish they had more (only a dozen 1/2 left). The only thing that could make them better would be if the could fill those chocolate covered donut holes with Bavarian cream (but that could be time consuming) With the ability to choose your filling and have it filled to order guarantees you will get a fresh donut and not one with a wet mushy donut inside from sitting there all morning. The hours on Yelp states open til 4pm but they are only open til noon. I will definitely be back. I can only wish they had one closer to my house than 8 hours away. read more

We ordered donut holes, 3 sprinkled donuts, a sour cream glazed, a chocolate glazed and they gave us a blueberry cake donut to round out a half-dozen.
