That said, it's a cool spot with great people and I'd happily go back. I ordered their signature breakfast sandwich, egg, bacon, and cheese on a biscuit. It was good, not mind-blowing. The biscuit was a little dry, which was a bummer since that's supposed to be the star of the show. I kept wishing for some butter or sauce to bring it together. On the flip side, I also grabbed a slice of cake and that was excellent, easily my favorite thing I ate there. For drinks, I got a matcha latte. They warned me the matcha was a bit earthy and suggested adding sweetener, which I did. I always wonder if "earthy" is code for lower-quality matcha, if ceremonial matcha doesn't really need sugar, but with the sweetener it was totally fine and enjoyable. The space itself is cute and very Marfa. It's in a converted gas station that's part coffee shop, part vintage clothing store, with vintage motorcycles to keep the gas station theme going. There are only a couple of tables, and it's not really a place I felt like lingering with a book or a laptop. More of a grab-a-coffee-and-move-on kind of spot. If you're visiting Marfa and heading out to explore, it's perfect for that. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. They were attentive, brought my food to the table even though they initially said it would be window pickup, and the place is dog-friendly, very relaxed, and unpretentious. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in town.

They make some excellent drinks and the staff is very friendly. The shop is in a old gas station so there is plenty of parking and places to sit inside and out. This is a very chill shop with relaxing vibes in the creative town of Marfa Texas. Marfa, by the way, is a pretty awesome place to visit :)

The far west end where I thought I needed to go was closed. Another door - maybe two - led to employee-only or FedEx or maybe UPS-only areas. Eventually through the fish aquarium-like entrance I saw displays and what seemed like a menu. No one was up front in the surprisingly dusty, dirty room. Or was that ground coffee powder? Lol. After milling around a moment looking at the flavors, I finally saw a doorbell to ring for service on the dang table. I settled on a Vienna roast called "Dark Skies" ($14 per 1-lb. bag) that is rich and smooth just like the packaging says... I tried it today. Even the decaf coffee I tried at night (for some reason, any amount of caffeine keeps me up at night nowadays so I refrain from drinking anything caffeinated after 3 PM or so) was equally good. When we saw that they were roasted by Big Bend Roasters, we made it a point to stop by during our brief stay in Marfa before the long drive back home. After a late lunch at The Water Stop, we checked Yelp and it indicated Big Bend Roasters will remain open until 3 PM. We got there at around 2:30 PM and saw "Closed" sign on a door. Thinking there must be a mistake, I opened another door and must've startled the guy in there in what looked like an area where they bag the beans. In any case he told us to come in via the other door with the "closed" sign. When we came in, we asked if they were closed and he just shrugged and asked us if we knew what we want. My wife told him about the coffee at the Gage Hotel and he knew exactly which ones we wanted. He went back into the room we initially saw him in and bagged the whole bean coffee we requested (2 1-lb bag of Bolivia Caranavi and Decaffeinated Mexico Chiapas). We were charged $13 for each bag! Looking at their website, they charge $15 per bag not including shipping...so glad we stopped by and bought coffee right there to get the discount. While I don't think we'll make the 6.5-hour drive just to buy coffee from them, perhaps we can ask friends visiting the area to stop by. We are now fans and currently savoring coffee from Big Bend Roasters while at home this foggy December morning...nothing like coffee made from freshly ground coffee beans poured from a French press!

The service was excellent, and the atmosphere struck a perfect balance--clean and contemporary, yet quiet enough for real conversation, with plenty of space to sit and linger. I didn't get a chance to ask who roasts their coffee, but the light roast was impressively smooth, almost tea-like, with none of the bitterness you'd expect. I also ordered a mocha latte and loved that they make their syrups in-house--the freshness really comes through, a welcome change from the usual plastic-bottle pumps. Overall, it's a calming, rejuvenating space and an easy place to slow down and enjoy a great cup of coffee.

I understand the grocery store has a closing time but the staff should expect a 5-10 minute delay in closing for customers to finish shopping. They can always lock the door and then unlock for a customer to leave. There's an appropriate way to let customers know when it's time to go but not the way the store employee approached me. They signed up for the job so complaining to me is unacceptable and absolute horseshit. The staff should be talked to.

First off, the address directions via GPS were not correct, it's actually a block down from where GPS leads you... so, after circling around a couple of times, I finally found it. It was worth the effort... I had both the Mexican hot chocolate and the matcha. Very yummy, and just the energy I needed early in the morning for the drives to Big Bend NP and back to Amarillo, respectively. A friend got the yogurt and fruit and found it very filling with a side of breakfast potatoes. On both days I got a burrito. They added avocado and sour cream which gave just the right touch to an already delicious burrito. The staff was so friendly and answered questions about menu items and customizing options. The house kitty was also very friendly. The cafe is small, but there was no problem with seating early in the morning. The artwork on the walls is interesting and western in theme. Everything was warm, clean and inviting. This is definitely the place to stop when you're in the area.
