We were referred here by one of the locals, and because of that we didn't have reservations. However, that didn't keep the staff from turning us away. We were greeted by the friendly smiles and seated right away. The ambiance was nice, I wouldn't say cozy, but it was nice. You walk in to a view of a bar to the left and a vault in front of you, which you can dine in. The waiter suggested the corn bread as an appetizer, and it did not disappoint. Moist and full of sweet flavor, I could not pin point the sweetness! My husband got the salmon and I got the trout. Both were a good portion and rich in flavor. I had a hard time putting it in words. It's a must try! We were so full by the end, we decided to take the skillet cookie to go. It didn't look as pretty in the togo box so I didn't post it, but I would also suggest to take it home or eat it there. I highly recommend this place, will return next time I visit. read more

Just wish it was a little bit bigger inside it felt slightly cramped, but that did not make affect my experience in the slightest. The server we had I can't remember his name but he was so funny, and helpful. He was so smiley and witty which we loved. He gave us such good recommendations on food, the pasta special they had was delicious! Seasoned perfectly, those croquettes were also super yummy, don't even get me started on that cornbread! The only thing I will say is the steak was good but just slightly over seasoned, but other than that perfectly cooked. I also got a side Caesar salad which was amazing, the amount of dressing was perfect and the croutons are made from the cornbread which I thought was interesting but they were very good. Last week, we decided to try out General Ledger for dinner. It was highly recommended by a local buddy and we were very impressed with our visit. The restaurant is in an old bank building. You can reserve a table in the old vault. We made reservations the night before and arrived early. We took a seat at the well stocked bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. They had a nice bourbon selection that was reasonably priced. We grabbed a table as soon as it was time for our reservation. Once at the table, our service was great. We looked over the menu and decided to start with a few appetizers. We went with the skillet corn bread and stuffed mushrooms. For our main meals, we went with the blackened pork chop and reuben sandwich. I substituted some white cheddar croquetas for the mashed potatoes that came with the chop Our apps came out quickly and they looked amazing. The corn bread was served with a big scoop of honey butter on top. It melted perfectly over the top of the bread. We cut our slices and noticed it was quite airy on texture and swimming in butter. I wasn't mad about that in the least. The flavor and texture was absolutely perfect. It was probably some of the best corn bread I have had. We shared the stuffed mushrooms. They were very unique in the flavor, but the combo worked. The sauce was so good that we asked for an order of bread to soak up every last bit. Our mains came out right after we finished our apps. The blackened pork chop was topped with a bacon onion jam. The sear and tenderness was spot on. Really enjoyed every bit of that chop. The croquetas were a treat, crunchy and rich. The Reuben sandwich was incredible as well. The house cured corned beef was perfection. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The food, drink, and service were all top notch. This old historic bank turned into a fine dining experience in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge is one that you should not miss. We arrived for our 5:45pm reservation on a Saturday, the place was crowded but we were sat right at our reservation time which was great! Our server Kim was fantastic, she smiled a lot and was super pleasant. For food we started with the cast iron cornbread which was flavorful, we also had the goat cheese salad which was fantastic, it exceeded expectations. We ordered the soup (clam chowder) which I would recommend. For our entree we ordered the blackened pork chop which was really good! We had peanut & Ginger Cole slaw and French fries as sides. We had reservations for 6. Once we arrived we noticed the vault was available so we asked if we could be seated in there. The vault is private, but would feel cramped if we had 8 to 10 people. However, the actual vault is pretty cool to see. We each ordered salads and appetizers. The Ledger Goat Cheese sale is amazing! If you order a different salad then boo you! For an appetizer we ordered Deviled Ham & Pimento cheese. As advertised the crackers are Ritz Crackers. I felt they could've used some fancier crackers to make this dish even better. Pimento cheese was amazing. Our entrees were all great. My only complaint is the Swordfish Entree is supposed to be served over Quinoa, but it was definitely served over Pearl Couscous. Nonetheless I prefer couscous over quinoa so it was great. Giving this a 3 star because it was better than average, but this location in a tourist town could have something 5 star. read more

The pork chop was moist but there was no semblance of "blackened" seasoning. Cons: extremely overpriced. None of the food was seasoned. The ribeye (for $54) came out so full of fat and gristle there was hardly any edible meat so that was a waste of money. Sides were your standard plain green beans (also no seasoning) and plain mashed potatoes. Overall- this place is at best a 3 of 5 stars. It was clean and we were able to get a table on a busy night. We asked the waiter for a few more minutes to look over the menu and he waited 30 minutes or more to check on us again, I even made eye contact with him, waved ,and he still walked the other way. I had dinner at The General Ledger during a recent jaunt to Blue Ridge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's in a historic bank building and they've done a great job by retaining some of the character and even turning the old vault into a private dining area...very cool. Our waiter Zach was extremely friendly and offered suggestions about the menu and shared the history of the space. My wife is a fiend for fried green tomatoes, and I must admit theirs were some of the best I've tasted. We both had the chicken paillard, me with angel hair and her with gluten free pastas; both were excellent. The white cheddar potato croquettes were a delicious side. We had the cornbread, which was delicious, then the ledger goat cheese salad followed by the cedar plank salmon with this wonderful kale salad and a side of rice. Everything was done to perfection. I ordered the 16oz steak & substituted the potato croquettes for mashed potatoes... Great choice by the way! It's came with seasoned veggies as the second side (green beans). The steak was very juicy & flavorful! Idk what type of lemon butter sauce drizzled over the steak but it was so good! Definitely the biggest steak I've ever ordered so I had leftovers for later. I also ordered the crispy crab fritters as an appetizer. Surprisingly, those were good as well. The sauce tasted a bit like marinara sauce but more flavored. We have been coming to The General Ledger several times a year since they opened and I've been ordering the pecan crusted trout every time. Over this time, I have experienced fewer and fewer pecans and less crusting at each experience. This time it was served with no pecans at all with no noticeable crusting. I had discussed with my server the importance of the pecans when I made my initial order and discussed again my disappointment when it arrived naked from the kitchen. Server tried to rectify by bringing some chopped pecans (I used) and a some miscellaneous sauce (not used). While the trout was cooked nicely, it in no way resembles expectations set by menu description or dated pictures in yelp reviews. OWNERS....It is time to review the menu and make updates. If you don't want to make a "crust of or with (noticeable) pecans" remove that part of the wording. You offer a nice enough product but the diner may leave disappointed and write a lengthy review detailing how things could have been better. read more

What takes this place over the top is the service. Mitshella was incredible nice and attentive to our needs. She understood the menu and was honest with her recommendations (she told us that the staff harvested a couple of the herbs on the menu!). The food was good. We ordered a good variety from their menu (Seared Tuna salad - dressing in PHENOMENAL, Divers Sea Scallops, Trout - must try, the mussels - meh) and also got several items to-go. Drinks were... okay.
