Store: 3/5. A bit cramped inside - I understand they wanted to keep the purchase area separate from the confectioner's area, but a bit too much square footage set aside for them behind the counter. You'll be walking around quite a bit and you may have to go back and forth a bit to get a full sense of what's on offer. Combine the store ambiance with the incredibly high prices (we all agreed it's at least 20% higher than other gourmet chocolatiers) and I can't give it a fifth star. But the chocolate itself? Anyone who has driven down Route 202 heading to Flemington has definitely seen the iconic red building that is The Fudge Shoppe. I've shopped here a few times over the years, moreso since moving into the area. They have a wide assortment of sweets, even stuff for people who don't like chocolate. Some of the items they have: - Fudge (obviously) - Chocolate covered fruit - Peanut brittle - Cordial cherries - Truffles - Licorice - Swedish Fish - Gummi bears and worms During my latest trip, I picked up some of their dark chocolate bourbon cherries that spend a week soaking in bourbon before being coated in a chocolate shell. I picked up some milk chocolate Oreos for my wife (she doesn't like dark chocolate). They have baskets and seasonal treats throughout the year (Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Easter, etc.) if you need to pick up a gift for someone. The inside may feel a little cramped during busier times of the year but that adds to the character and charm of a place that's been around since 1961! read more

Very Disappointed! I ordered 80 assorted dipped apples for my department. I ordered them to be picked up at 11:00am. When I arrived there at 10:50am they were not even close to being finished. I had to wait 30 minutes for the apples to be completed. Then they rushed the last ones and the plain caramel apples were not even dipped properly and they were a sticky mess with the paper lining stuck to the apple. They were not dipped twice or dried. They did have nicely completed apples that were ready in the store but they did not give me those, I got the not dipped sticky ones. For the $821.01 I was charged they said they threw in one extra caramel apple for my trouble!! REALLY!! 8 apples are not even nice enough to give away. So sad that no one was paying attention to QUALITY, TIME, and the CUSTOMER. UPDATE-So when a manager got back to me she "argued" with me and said that we left the store at 11:02, WE DID NOT. There were three of us to pick up the order and we left the shop at 11:20. Since when do you argue with a customer, and not be TRUTHFUL, who spent $821.01? I also questioned why they gave me sub quality product that they would not put on their shelves to sell, and she did not have an answer. I also asked why they had PLENTY of great looking apples there at the store and why they did not offer those to me instead of sending me away with sub-quality product. Her response was that I asked for plain caramel, not with nuts. I said that if it was my business I would never let a customer go away with that quality and not give them the option of something equal, if not better. So...the outcome is that I have to drive there again and they will take back the 8 bad apples and give me 12, reason, I only was given 79 apples!!! This place had a ton of sweets to choose from ranging from fudge to chocolate candies to seasonal treats to much more! The staff was friendly and patient as we decided what to order. I had six different types of truffles as well as chocolate fudge and peanut butter fudge. Both fudges were excellent. They were not too rich like traditional fudge. Both also had a great texture. The types of truffles I had are below. The truffles were all noticeably light. Jersey Raspberry - This was probably my favorite piece tried. The raspberry filing was not too overpowering and mixed in well with the chocolate taste. Hometown Sherbet - I was most interested in trying this one as I have not seen a sherbet type chocolate. It did not disappoint as it was not too sweet and reminded me of a creamy sherbet. Italian Espresso - I am not a fan of espresso tasting items, but this was not too bad. There was just a hint of espresso flavor that paired nicely with the rest of the truffle. Madagascar Vanilla - This was all right. I did not know what to expect, but it was not bad. Triple Hazelnut - This was my least favorite. I was expecting more of a hazelnut taste, but just tasted the chocolate. Cinnamon Bun - This was particularly good. Returning from work, I have driven by this store for years on Route 202 and wondered what it was. I drove by returning from lunch with my in-laws and asked to go in, but they did not agree, since they were always rushing home. Besides, I am not a big fan of fudge, so I did not push it. Then finally one day, someone sent me a mail order Christmas gift of a chocolate assortment from there. It was absolutely delicious! There were chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered nuts, multi-colored truffles, chocolate covered smores, chocolate covered oreo cookies, almond toffee, etc. I now stop by the store when I drive by and also send mail order to my cousin in Texas for Christmas. So glad we randomly found this place on our drive to PA! I'll give an extra star because they have incredibly fair prices for their good quality, unlike lots of other chocolate shops. We liked every type of packaged chocolates we got -- almonds, pretzels, graham crackers- all very good quality. I imagine the per pound boxes would be even fresher/better? They have a tremendous selection of pre packaged chocolate, fudge, and truffles. The Fudge Shoppe often creates special seasonal flavors like liquor truffles for Father's Day and variation on peppermint for Christmas. The Fudge Shoppe helped me make a Valentine's Day-themed work event much more special. From my first call, this team was nothing short of amazing. I wanted to bring in my own molds and have them make about 200 pieces, but they went above and beyond. Not only did they make the molds (they all came out so perfectly) but they divided them into 40+ separate gift bags at no extra charge. Not sure if that is the standard for most chocolate shops but I thought it was pretty great. The only charge was for the chocolates themselves and the candies I asked them to include in the gift bags as well. Seriously, the entire process was seamless. One day I was dropping off 15 ice cube trays and then a few days later I picked up perfectly gift wrapped chocolate/candy bags. This all happened about a week before Valentine's Day so just imagine how busy they were with just daily orders. Still, the chocolates were ready right on time. 5 stars for how good the chocolate is here. 5 stars for how great the staff is. 5 stars for how flippin' cute the red barn building is. I live 1 hour from the Fudge Shoppe. Since I'm a fudge lover, and I know of no stores in my area that make their own fresh fudge, and my birthday was 2 days ago, I planned a weekend getaway that included a visit to the Fudge Shoppe. There are so many great restaurants, parks and dive bars with live music in the Flemington direction, that I will probably do more weekend trips in the future to this area. I was on my way to the winery when I noticed this shop and had to make a U turn to check it out. The minute you walk in you are hit with the wonderful aroma of chocolate. The shop itself it's super cute and very well organized. They carry all types of chocolate and you can buy it by the bag, pound of individual. After going around 2x and tasting some of their samples my friend and I finally made up or mind and got a pound of chocolates. We went with an assortment that consisted of coconut, peanut butter, nuts and of course fruit. Each one was delicious but I have to say my ultimate favorite was the chocolate covered pineapple. They are the place to go for chocolate. All other chocolate wishes it were as good. They are friendly and very helpful. Best and most uniquely known for their chocolate dipped fruit. They have various chocolate filled items in their cases. Sugar free, and liquor filled are in the back case. The side case has nuts, butters, jellies etc. The covered fruit and fudge are in the front. I love the maple and walnut fudge. There are also lots of holiday molded items around the outer walls. I've been coming here for years. Got wedding favors here, and everything was perfectly done, just as requested, so each person got a similar box. read more

I've been to the Fudge Shoppe a couple times and it's simply amazing. I would highly recommend it for all of your chocolate needs! First and foremost, the staff is great. It seems like most of the employees are young teens. Every time I go, I'm greeted by a "how can I help you?" and a smile. I wish I could remember the name of the girl that helped me the first time I went. She was SO friendly and patient with me. She was able to answer all of my questions and even offered me a free sample of one of the chocolates I was looking at. The space itself is relatively tiny but packed from wall to wall with all types of chocolates. They usually have some free samples on the counter. Some chocolates are pre-packed while others can be bought per pound. They have a bunch of uniquely shaped chocolates such as golf balls, dogs, elephants, and horses just to name a few. The Fudge Shoppe has a wide variety of sugar free options as well. Out of everything I've tried so far, I must say I personally love the truffles. There are so many flavors. They also have... drum roll please... alcoholic chocolates! Some flavors include: Porter beer, Fireball whiskey, Lone Eagle's double IPA, salted margarita, tequila, moonshine, and kahlua. I've given these as gifts and they're always a big hit! Cute shop with a lot of variety. I have passed by here many times and finally stopped in to get treats for Easter. I picked out things each person would like, bridge mix, caramel marshmallow eggs, and a fudge/nut caramel egg. The marshmallow egg does not actually have any caramel in it, just caramel flavor and the chocolate does not taste like real or quality chocolate in any of the things I purchased. I have a soft spot for places that are authentic and this place looks and smells of authenticity. Stopped by a couple of times while I was on my way to PA from NJ and leave satisfied every single time. All of the chocolate is made on spot and they coat almost everything in it. My family and I grab boxes of fruit dipped in chocolate for the road and although we all get different kinds of fruit,'y absolute favorite is the raspberry dipped in dark chocolate. It tastes like a Ghirardelli chocolate only better. The fruit is super sweet and the chocolate is super rich. The staff is really friendly also. I love this place! It's super cute and I feel good about supporting a local, independent sure. When I visit New Jersey for work, I always try to stop by for yummy souvenirs for my family. My parents love the dark chocolate toffee and dark chocolate mints. For the kids, they always have seasonal treats- in officer, there were Graves stones with assorted candies, but those were to fragile for the plane ride home, and witches cauldrons files with milk chocolate balls were terrific. So many good reviews! Guess my experience was the exception. I ordered fudge for my husband's birthday. It arrived by mail in a timely fashion, but the product crumbled when my husband went to get an initial slice. I sent a complaint and was told they take care to only have fresh product and apologized. The owner I was told, would get in touch when he returned to work. Never heard from them again. Went here with my two close friends on our way back home from one of their birthdays -- we live near New York City. Besides their chocolates being delicious and made fresh every day (you can tell when tasting), they are staffed by tremendously nice employees with kind eyes. And, to find out the best flavor for the palates of you or your family, they give you whole pieces to try. I got cashew dark chocolate (hit the chocolate spot for me) for my family; and, tiramisu for my close cousin back home (her favorite). We spoke to Rich, when checking out, perhaps someone in leadership, but he definitely shared with us his values and even values of their business. We spoke about the struggles of COVID-19, this pandemic, and even how it's changed their sends to the hospital to maintain encouragement -- we all have different roles in healthcare, both remote and in person. Either way, he gave us some extra chocolate strawberries, that could be for our families, or even anyone we see who is an unfortunate situation. In summary, we felt that not only does the Fudge Shoppe have a quality product, but they have quality employees, and they have heart, And, that's at the center of any establishment that my friends and I will support. The first time I went here was in 2012, and i got one of their huge lollipops they have behind the counter. Ever since then, I go at least two times a month because it's so great! First of all, the staff are so sweet, whenever I walk in the adorable barn-shaped building I'm greeted by a smiling face behind the counter. The person always asks how I am doing and will help you whenever you need it. The best part of the shop is the candy and chocolate, of course. The chocolate is the best I've ever had, it's so sweet but has an amazing creamy texture. It is definitely not some cheap candy from Walmart. Their candies taste great. Some of the stuff they sell such as candy corn and butterscotch are so much better than other candy companies, who's candy tastes and looks like plastic. They also have fresh chocolates behind the counter, such as chocolate covered fruit and truffles. You can order as much as you want from the counter, which is great. They also have free samples on the counter you can try, and it's always hard for me to not grab five of them. They make different candies for different holidays as well, such as chocolate and candy Christmas trees for Christmas and chocolate heart boxes for Valentines day. It is nearly impossible to find a downside to the Fudge Shoppe, but the only thing I could think of is that they could make their chocolate and candy less expensive, as it costs around five dollars for one bag of candy. But, since it is so well made, the extra bucks are worth it. I will forever support the Fudge Shoppe, and I hope they keep making amazing chocolate for many people to enjoy. read more

Warning: You will indulge. I've been to the Fudge Shoppe about five times now and I always come out of there excited to dig into whatever chocolate covered thing I've purchased. The shoppe itself is small but it packs a wollop! This is the closest thing to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory you can find in Northern Jersey (minus the Oompa Loompas). I particularly love the chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered Oreos. The fiancée and I stopped by the Fudge Shoppe the other day to purchase a ton of chocolate for gift bags at our upcoming wedding. I'm excited to pass on the Fudge Shoppe's deliciousness to others as I'm excited to pass on their greatness to you too! If you're driving down 202 and see a red barn on your side of the road... pull in and satisfy your sweet tooth! I stopped by here during the drive from North Jersey to New Hope, PA to to get out, stretch and get past the highway hypnosis that I was fighting during that long boring drive on 87 and 287. So glad we stopped! I really enjoyed the free samples and I purchased a chocolate "card" as a gift for a friend who is leaving town. I asked about putting the chocolate "card" in a box, and not only did they do that they also gift wrapped it for me. So great!! I also purchased a dark chocolate cluster with salted cashews - super tasty. Just wish they had some bottled water in the store as the chocolate samples made me thirsty. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place so much. I have never actually been in it but everything that I have been given from this place is amazing. Steve bought me chocolate covered fruits and it is the best I have ever had, nothing compares to how sweet and fresh they taste. It's tons of different flavored fruit: banana, pineapple, raspberry, strawberry, blueberries. It taste so great. Just recently for Easter I received a chocolate bunny with jelly beans.. the BEST jelly beans I have ever had. Nothing compares to these! Not even Jelly Belly (which I also like), but these are just so fantastic that it was hard to stop eating them, soft and the taste was perfection. The chocolate is great, but they're fresh chocolate covered fruit is absolutely out of this world. We go there every Valentine's Day to bring a box home for ourselves. They have lots of different fruit usually including pineapple berries and bananas. They have both milk and dark chocolate and both are amazing. Always worth the trip always so tasty! read more
