Held my baby shower here in the upstairs banquet room on 2/25/18. Although it was a great celebration, I had some issues with The Fruit Yard. The room was not very clean when we arrived to set up. The carpet clearly needed to be vacuumed, there were empty sweet n low packets and other trash under the tables, there was no soap in the restroom, & some of the tablecloths were dirty. Our server was SLOW. We had to track her down on multiple occasions to get more drinks for my guests. (Which was very frustrating, because since we served ourselves with the buffet brunch, getting our drinks was all she had to do for our banquet. Well, she was also supposed to cut the cake we brought in.. but guess what? When it was time for dessert, our server was again nowhere to be found! My sister went downstairs to the brunch buffet area and grabbed plates from there, we cut the cake ourselves, and WE served my guests their dessert. 34 weeks pregnant over here, but sure, let me do the servers job!) Frustrating to have to pay a mandatory 20% gratuity fee, because that server did not deserve it! Lastly, Throughout my entire booking experience & up until receiving my final bill, there was one common theme that surfaced...they care about getting as much $$$ out of you way more than they care about customer service & your event. Before we ever officially booked the baby shower, I asked Angela (works in the office, handles banquets) if it would be possible to take pictures out on the grass by the water day of (weather permitting, and also if there were no other events going on out there of course) She said it shouldnt be a problem, she would make a note of that request, and just to let "our coordinator" know the day of so someone could unlock the gate for us. Come Feb 25th, it's a sunny day and I let the staff know that we'd like to take some pictures out there at some point if possible. They said OK, but no one ever once mentioned that they CHARGE YOU to do so! At the very end, we spent maybe a total of 5 minutes taking a few pictures In front of the water, then went back inside to pay our final bill. Guess what they added to our bill? A $75 "lakeside photo service fee." Yup. $75! For 5 mins of standing in bird poop trying to get a few pictures In the sunlight. I was FLOORED. I almost lost it, and was literally on the verge on tears, because it was already a very expensive event. I flat out said, "I will NOT be paying this $75!" If that's seriously your policy, you might want to mention that to your customers BEFOREHAND. Because I guarantee you, they will PASS with a "thanks, but no thanks!" But again, not mentioning the fee is probably part of their money making strategy. They eventually took the fee off, because i think they knew I was about to make a scene. Had it been someone a little less bold than I, they probably would have suckered the poor soul out of $75. And that's SAD. Makes me a little sick to my stomach that we paid over $700 to have this baby shower there...way too expensive for the quality of service provided. read more
