This review is for my daughter's wedding on August 12, 2017. I had mixed feelings about writing this because there was both good and bad points. I also wanted to give the owner, Joe, a chance to call me back on the issues we had, but as of today, I still have not received a callback. This feedback is from my view, as well as gathered comments from some of the guest.
GOOD: The reception was held outside. The lake area was beautiful and nicely kept. We were very happy that they have a tent for the tables and dance floor because it provided shade. The food was good, especially the tri-tip. The facilities person, Chad, was great. Whenever something needed to be addressed (water for bathroom) or extra umbrellas, he took care of it right away.
BAD: The place was not set up completely which would have been fine but after almost a half hour into the start of the reception the tables that were in the sun we were stilling missing umbrellas and the bathrooms did not have water for guest to wash their hands. The gift table and sign-in book table were in the wrong area.
Food Service - Food was buffet style but the event coordinator, Julie, said that she will be serving the head table as well as the parents' table for both sides. This was nice to hear since my mother who sat at this table has difficulty walking. The problem was the staff didn't finish giving food for our table. When I asked Julie if they were going to finish serving our table, she said she that they did but when I told her that there was 5 of us with no plates, she looked over to check if that was correct before saying she will get more. Did she think I was lying about if we got food or not?
The dishes from our dinner were left on the tables the entire time. One of the groom's guest noticed that the head table was not cleared off as well so she asked the staff to remove the dirty dishes 3 times. When it still wasn't taken away she started to take dishes to the back of the tent herself.
Water - It was a hot day. There was no water at the tables when we first arrived. Luckily, they did have a container of water for guest to get some but throughout the day we had to keep asking the staff to refill it. During our meals, our guest had to keep going to the table in back of the tent to refill their water pitchers or grab more.
Flies and gnats - The food was left out for guest to get more but some people informed me that the flies and gnats were sitting on the food that were not covered (fruit, gravy) .
Cake - This is where we had the most problem. First they brought the cake out too early and placed it in the hot sun. When I informed Julie about this she said that she just brought it out but the guest from both sides of the family said it was there for a while.
After spending hundreds of dollars on the wedding cake, my daughter and son-in-law did not get a piece, nor did anyone else at the head table. My daughter went to talk to Julie after she was told that there was no more cake. Julie informed her that the cake was cut and served and that the flower girl (who happened to be my other daughter) ate 3 pieces. We asked my young daughter if she did eat three pieces, she replied no and that she waiting for a cake. That's when Julie kept insisting that she ate it and therefore made my 8 year old cry. Julie did not say apologize for her mistake. She later said that people were pulling the cake plates out of the head table but again this was a lie because my sister and I were out in front of the table helping out and we did not see any cake at the head table.
Some of the guest observed that the cake that was given to the people was the sheet cake (chocolate) not the wedding cake (white) and only a few people got the wedding cake because they asked for it. Some of the guest did not get any cake, so again, they had to either ask for it or pick it up themselves from the table in back of the tent. The pieces on that table were all sheet cake. When I asked for a piece of cake, they started to give me the sheet cake. I asked, "Is there any more of the white cake?" The waiter looked around then went around the back table and underneath it before pulling out a piece. When I told Julie, about this, she said that was impossible and I was wrong. Did she think I was making it up?
A couple days after the wedding, one guest told me that she saw Julie wrap the cake and put it in back in the box. She thought they were saving it for the bride and groom but later she saw the box, sticking out of one of the garbage bags to be thrown away.
Our experience with the event coordinator, Julie, was not good one. We couldn't find her most of the time. The bride and I had to keep asking the waiters to go find her. They had to get her from the restaurant since she was not at the lake area. She lied about the cake issues. Some of the guest who spoke to Julie said that she was either short with them or rude. read more
