I was very delighted to find out the French Workshop opened in Plainview so I wouldn't have to drive to Garden City if I wanted some sweet treats. The desserts are always great, if not a bit pricy. Many of the desserts are quite sweet but there's a nice selection of mildly sweet items as well (like the fruit tarts). I stop by once in awhile for desserts to share with family or to indulge by myself. Recently, I tried their savory menu for the first time with a croque monsieur. They helped to toast my sandwich and it made for a tasty lunchtime item. It was very solid and better than I thought it'd be. This is a City-fied café that belongs on Madison Ave. Instead, it is in Plainview, Long Island, sandwiched (talk about puns!) between the Banana Republic Factory Store and Ann Taylor. All three stores share a common parking lot. I took photos of food and drink menu items that I have not seen in any Long Island café. Examples: The dark chocolate pie that is covered entirely with dark chocolate shavings. The honey hazelnut latte The Nutella latte The Greek yoghurt bowl whose berries are topped with swirls of Nutella. The hazelnut cupcake that has hazelnut filling buried inside. The lemon caramel tarte, which is a foodgasmic blend of two of my favorite flavors. ******************************************* There are many more delectable desserts and drinks that tantalize the taste buds. There are vegan options, too, like the vegan blueberry muffin. A variety of sinfully-tasty sandwiches and paninis are also made fresh. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the interior decor is chic. The French Workshop would impress any first date. It is also kid friendly. The lines move fast, and the interior is clean. Came in close to closing time so I was expecting to get in and out quickly. The line was still quite long, and I had never been here before. Everyone standing on line was blocking my view of nearly the entire pastry case. A man asked me what I wanted before I had seen anything available besides macarons. It being a French bakery, I asked if they had any almond croissants and he said he had to check, then came back and said he had three in the oven but would be another few mins. So I asked if I could have all three. He didn't immediately say yes, I'm not sure why, but then eventually agreed. The line continued moving, and I continued waiting for the croissants to bake. By the time I got near the register I saw two more pastries that I wanted to order. The man was still in the back, presumably checking on the croissants or starting to clean up, who knows. Again, it was close to closing. When I got to the register, the cashier (young girl) asked what I had ordered and I said oh I ordered three almond croissants, and she rolled her eyes and yelled the man's name to confirm the order, he said yes, he was wrapping them up. As he's doing that, I asked her can I also get the pistachio donut and she ignored me, gave me my total for the three croissants. I said also can you please add on the pistachio donut? And she sighed and said, "yeah at the register we don't take orders we just ring up what you asked for on line. But I'll do it for you this once." So she put the pistachio donut in a box, gave me the other three boxes that I could only assume were the three almond croissants (at this point entirely sight unseen, bought just on the man's word that they existed). Thought, wow, what an insane business model to be a cashier at a bakery and think you'll never be taking orders? Or that someone waiting on a 25 min line of people blocking the whole case may decide they want something else while standing next to it for a long time? I've also never been here before how would I know that? How would anyone guess that? How would anyone logically intuitively figure out that a cashier in a bakery wouldn't retrieve baked goods that you ask to purchase? Maybe the pastries will be so good I will forget to be offended. All three almond croissants were burnt. Hard as rocks, dark brown, bitter, under a mountain of powdered sugar that was of no help. Sheer spite got me through them. read more

Food is always great - love the sandwiches, pastries, especially the cakes!!! THe coffee selections are also good (hot or cold). The service is fast and staff are always friendly. This location is always busy, lots of customers. The interior looks huge, clean but tables are always filled so it's difficult to dine in. This bakery is also located at a busy plaza so parking are often times hard. So these are the only issues that we have but everything else is great!!! read more

Came in here tonight with a friend for some dessert. It was 8pm and they closed at 9pm but they were still super busy! There were so many delicious looking options but we went with the raspberry tart which came with a vanilla bean custard. The shell itself was delicious and crunchy. The custard was to die for!! We also got a chocolate mousse cake which was called something noir. Had brownie crumbles on top- so mouthwateringly good. We both got chamomile teas because it was non caffeinated and it was late. Super good and came at the perfect temperature to drink when it was served. Also wanted to note I've received multiple cakes from here for my birthday at work and have tried other things they sell and all were good. Cheesecakes, fruit tarts, brownies and cookies all amazing. Beautiful display of desserts that taste equally as delicious. We tried four types... and all were amazing and fresh! We can't for my birthday and truly enjoyed it. We appreciated that it was open late which allowed us to swing by after dinner. Presentation was lovely as well as he pastries were on a silver platter. I usually frequent their Bayside & Garden City locations and this was my first time at this one. I saw it 2 months ago and was so surprised that they actually opened their third location in Plainview. My cousin came here a few times solely for their crème brulée and she absolutely loves it, which is why I decided to stop by for some. The store was clean & spacious with a large seating area and all the showcases were fully stocked. It was truly dessert heaven! I bought the last 3 crème brulée on display. The girl who helped me out was extremely friendly and helpful. The caramelized sugar was a little bitter for my taste but nonetheless, it was delicious! The custard was rich & creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. They come in a ceramic ramekin too. I could probably devour 2 in one sitting, they have a small ($8) and large size ($33). Besides that, I also like their cold brew coffee (better than Starbucks), croissant, spinach & cheese bougatsa and the Monte Cristo sandwich. read more

To start, this place is gorgeous. Marble lined, filled with sandwiches, pastries and sweets. Bit of a confusion to order but managed to grab a raspberry madeleine and a small mint hot chocolate. To sum it up: I was whelmed. The madeleine itself was alright. Fluffy in the middle but didn't have that buttery taste I enjoy. The jam was nice and tart though. The hot chocolate was a disappointment. It was like the La Croix of hot chocolate: hot milk with a whiff of chocolate. The mint was plenty pronounced though. Overall, I do want to try this place again. Maybe next time I'll order something that was prettier? Who knows. read more

Came to grab a quick bite for the airport and I was suggested to try their sandwiches or paninis. I got the CHICKEN PESTO SANDWICH and since I wasn't eating it right away, I decided not to toast it/warm it up. I can say that it was delicious for a sammie that wasn't even toasted! The amount of pesto was perfect with enough oil to keep the bread moist and the chicken lean and tasty. Slight cheese and tomato give it a fresh bite. The place was very nice and cozy, very appetizing! There were a lot of people and the line was long, but definitely worth the wait. The pecan pie was just the right sweetness. We visited this location a few weeks ago because I wanted a fresh baguette and ended up getting distracted by all the amazing pastries and treats they had in the display! I've visited the garden city and bayside locations but this hands down was the largest and nicest location! We got a few pastries including my personal fave, the crunch, a Mille fuelle pastry, a fruit tart, a hazelnut chocolate tart, and one opera pastry (as well as the baguette we originally came for!) Everything was so fresh, so delicious and amazing, I love that the quality of the pastries are standard across all locations, and they NEVER disappoint! My friend told me about this new place that opened up in the Plainview Centre Mall only about 2 months ago... so came to check it out! Wow! They have a big a big variety of baked cakes, food, bakery items, macarons, and desserts... they also have sandwiches and drinks too...so much to try! Definitely made it hard to decide what to get as everything looked really good! Decided to get a couple of items to try: 1) mixed berry and strawberry tarts... the strawberry itself was very tart.. 2) Profiterole Choux - 4 cream puffs on a tart 3) slice of carrot cake 4) Sunrise - Dacquiose filled with mango and passion fruit coulis topped with coconut mile mousse, glazed w/ passion fruit -- delicious! 5) Pistachio muffin -- so moist and delicious - have to go back and get some more next time Note: all the tarts have the same base...just the topping is different Staff is very friendly and service is quick. Always a fan of The French Workshop. I visited this location a while back when they first opened. It is located in a shopping center where the CVS, Trader Joe's and a few other stores in the same center, so you can always stop by after you are done shopping for something sweet. Inside there is table seating to dine in after your purchase. It looks bigger inside then from the appearance from the parking lot. In the back you can view the bakers in the back preparing the delicious treats that are displayed in the counter windows. They have a good variety of desserts from fancy pastries, macarons, pies, cookies and tarts. They also have savory items such as their sandwiches and savory pies. I love their mini spinach bites and their apple crumb tart. The apple crumb tart has a nice contrast of the sweet sliced apple with a soft crumble topping dusted with powder sugar and crisp tart crust. It is offered in both mini and larger size depending if you want to just treat yourself or bring home to have at home with family or friends. They also serve a variety of crafted coffee drinks including hot chocolate or teas if the other two dont fancy you. The staff is always friendly here to the patrons. Most of the time the line moves quick unless a larger crowd comes in at once and depends if they are short of staff that day. The only reason I had to knock a star is because it can be quite pricy to purchase items here. So I usually visit to treat myself. I will definitely be returning again soon. read more

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The food is great so that's why we keep coming back, but all the French Workshop locations, this one in particular, has horrendous customer service. I hate leaving negative reviews and emailed them privately to let them know first but I have not received a response. (This was months ago because of another negative experience at this location). We always have very basic, simple orders and they always always always screw up the order. Every time. They either give us someone else's item, they give OUR item to someone else, they heat up things that we specifically ask not to be heated, they completely leave items out of our order, the list goes on. I don't understand why this keeps happening, and I think there is a simple solution since it seems like the majority of the issues arise at the cash register. Keep every customers items on a tray and when they get to the cash register, you have all the items on one tray. Instead, they put everyone's items in a jumbled mess and the cashier never knows who's is who's and they end up giving everyone the wrong thing. Please, take this advice or figure out another way to be more organized. You have great food but it should not be this complicated! read more

I stopped in yesterday to pick up dessert for the kiddos. Although they have decadent desserts of all kinds, I decided on Macaroons. They have every flavor! I picked Nutella, blueberry, lemon, pistachio, vanilla and coffee. They were a hit! I had the coffee flavor, which was good. My niece & nephew had Nutella & Vanilla flavors & gave the thumbs up. I'll definitely come back for more. If you're going to do Macaroons, the French do it right! It is pricey, but worth it (2.95 each). The staff was friendly & helpful. I've been craving some good croissants for a while and came across The French Workshop in reasonable distance from where I live. I stopped by on Sunday lunch time and it was fairly busy with most of the seats taken up and with a decent line. I ordered couple things - Mini Mixed Berry Tart, Plain Croissant, Chocolate Croissant, Chicken Avocado sandwich, and Matcha latte with oat milk. The chicken avocado sandwich was very good - The chicken was flavorful and I loved the bread (obviously considering it's from a baked good shop). The croissant was amazing - so buttery and flaky - it definitely satisfied my craving. I would come back just for the plain croissant. The mini mixed berry tart was also very delicious. The berries were good quality, the pastry cream was lightly sweet, and the tart crust was great also. The matcha latte was also pretty good - pretty standard matcha drink you would get from a cafe. Overall the baked goods were great and I would definitely come back to try out their other baked goods because they have SO MANY options. The only thing that was a little tough was that there are SO many options and when you are looking at the options on the showcase, you are essentially in line to order (since the showcase is covered by people in line to order) and I felt a little rushed to order without getting a good chance to look through everything. Also they start taking the order midway through the showcases so you start ordering without even having a chance to see all the other types of baked good down the line. Also it was very busy and felt a little hectic - I brought my things to work with but the ambiance wasn't really a type to do work. Randomly came across this bakery while searching for places to visit in Long Island, was such a pleasant surprise! I recently visited Paris this past spring and this bakery took me right back to the French bakery feel. A beautiful array of pastries just like the Parisians do and the taste was spot on! Compare to the one in Bayside, definitely not as good. The pastries taste better at the Bayside location but not far off but the sandwiches in this location is just down right disappointing. Got the honey turkey sandwich and it literally has 2 thin slices of turkey inside ( see for yourself in the picture). At the Bayside location, the sandwich has a much more reasonable amount of turkey inside!! Service on the other hand, wonderful! People who work there are delightful, helpful, and very efficient! The location is bright and has large space to house plenty tables. Will be back for pastries/bakery stuff but not sure if I will get sandwiches from here again until they bring it back up to a reasonable standard like ones from Bayside location. read more

I am a huge fan of the French Workshop, both in terms of product presentation AND actual taste. They have many large and inviting display cases filled with French pastries, cookies, cakes and breads. While EVERYthing looks mouthwateringly delicious, I must say I end up being overwhelmed by the choices to the point of ordering NONE of them (can't make up my mind)..... and just end up ordering an assortment of their mini-size cookies. Actually, this time, I only ordered their oatmeal raisin, which, admittedly, is my absolute favorite. I like that better than their chocolate chip, chocolate, or toffee cookies. I don't know what it is about the oatmeal raisin cookie, but both my husband and I can't get enough of them. Guess we'll have to keep buying and eating them till we figure out what their secret ingredient is that makes them so good. :-) read more

Ngl I was actually intimidated to walk in because The French Workshop looks SO fancy. I worked up enough courage to walk through the door and I am glad I did. They have an almost overwhelming selection of items both in cases and pre-packed. I picked up a Nutella cake off of the table to bring home to the fam and let me tell you, I almost wish I did not try it because once I started eating it, I could not stop. I put it in the oven to warm it because it seemed that perhaps it was headed towards the end of it's life span and doing so revived it. Very tasty. Not overly chocolatey - just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth. I purchase a vegan carrot muffin to have in house and although I did not care much for the icing, but the muffin itself was very moist with a good texture and no raisins thank the lord. The honey hazelnut latte was absolutely delicious. This would be a wonderful place for an afternoon coffee date. read more

Imagine a bakery that looks like a jewelry store inside. Everything is pristine and all of their goods are showcased incredibly well. I just checked this place out last night for the first time, my wife had been here a couple of weeks ago with a friend and since we were nearby we decided to stop in again. We bought a few items for ourselves and the kids, a créme brûlée cheesecake, carrot cake, apple tart, and at least one other item. Everything was a hit. I'm saving the cheesecake to share with her later but I had the apple tart to myself and it was delicious, she loved her carrot cake the kids loved what they got as well. It's a little out of the way for us but that's probably a good thing otherwise we'd be spending way too much money here. read more
