This non-hotel owned restaurant inside the Kimpton Saint George hotel is a good to spot when I stay here a few times a year. Staff is generally friendly and helpful. Sometimes slow and understaffed. TVs are everywhere and they have hockey, football, soccer, etc. on 24/7. Vibe is casual and cozy. Brunch menu has two vegan possible dishes on it: falafel burger and mediterranean salad (both with no cheese). Would love to see more or any plant based options on the breakfast and dinner menus. Would also be nice to have local wines and beers on the menu. read more

Ate here during brunch after visiting the Bata Shoe Museum across the street. It was not busy while we were there, only 3 other parties total during the roughly 1.5 hours we sat. Even though there were only a few people dining, the service was still a bit slow. I had the Kale Caesar Salad with Salmon and it was really good. My friend had the Fried Chicken sandwich (without the slaw) and enjoyed it. Wasn't the best ever, but a solid sammich. We made a reservation for 6pm on a Friday night and when we arrived most of the tables were full, so we were directed to a corner high table behind the bar. The privacy was good, but we missed all the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant and also the restaurant staff forgot about us at times. We ordered "Fortunate Fajitas" and "Fortunate Burger". The food was delicious and cooked well. They had 1/2 price bottle of wine offer for Friday nights as well. The Fortunate Fox is located in the Kimpton St. George but it has its own entrance to Bloor Street. I ate there numerous times over the course of my stay in the Kimpton, mainly for breakfast/brunch but I had dinner one night. I have to give it an excellent rating for both the food and the service. It really stands out from most in-hotel dining options. The main breakfast menu offers a nice variety of options, as does the weekend brunch menu. I can't say that anything they offered wasn't really good. I thought that the pancakes were particularly special as the waiter was able to describe the provenance of the maple syrup that they served with them (it was both local and organic). The one dinner I had consisted of a Greek wrap that was also excellent. The interior of the restaurant seems to mimic an English Club, with dark wood and associated knick-knacks. There is a theme of fox hunting, but in this version the fox has outsmarted everyone. There is a painting showing the fox wearing clothing and riding a horse with the hunting dogs walking along below. A Fortunate fox indeed! The diner will find themselves fortunate as well, as they will enjoy a hearty meal in a comfortable setting, and receive great service. read more

The Fortunate Fox is solid! For a hotel restaurant, this is one of the nicer ones I've ever encountered. The inside has a very clean, solid-colored Kimpton vibe. They take reservations and it appears they can accommodate big groups. We at here twice mostly out of convenience while staying in the Kimpton St. George hotel. For dinner, I had the fish and chips and we split the poutine. The poutine was huge! That could have been a meal on its own. The fish and chips was just okay (to be honest, I didn't finish it). I noticed a couple different stations around the restaurant for upscale bar games if you're feeling social. I only got to see The Fortunate Fox twice during off-peak hours, but I imagine this could be a fun place to meet friends for a drink. Quite an elegant place, good for couple dating, business convo and friends hang out. We got the round table booth which was nice to sit at. The waitress was friendly and patient, always smiling. Ordered their spinach dip and chicken bites for share, quite large quantities, and tasty too. Liked that they put a lot of spinach in the dipping sauce. Chicken bites had a lot of fries too. I've come here with a large group twice now for QE Trivia's weekly trivia night on Thursdays. LOVE the format of the trivia night, it's one of the best ones I've been to in the city (and I've been to a LOT of trivia nights). The host Ari is a ton of fun and we all enjoy ourselves. Unfortunately the food and drinks here are a miss. The drinks are either watered down or not flavoured correctly. Typically a cider on tap is served straight but they put a ton of ice in it which waters it down. Their aperol spritz is also totally watered down with soda water and hardly a hint of liquor. We've even had a bitter margarita from here, and I've never had a bad margarita! We've tried nearly all of their cocktails on the menu and they're all barely passable or downright bad. We've also been served the SAME cocktail in vastly different sized cups on the same night, which isn't great because sometimes they give you less and sometimes they give you more. The food was also not stellar. We've had the poutine which was much too salty, and their burger and Reuben was a really small size for the cost. Overall the food and drinks are plainly terrible, however they do have great entertainment. They have two dart boards for open use, some board games, as well as the aforementioned trivia night in Thursdays. Those are their only saving grace. If it wasn't for QE Trivia on Thursday nights we wouldn't be back! I give them a 3 stars only for their entertainment, I would not come here for the food and drinks. read more

This spot is part of a hotel and not too far from the st George subway station. It's a lovely space. Quiet and well kept. Not a fan of the books on the wall that have the spines missing. Doesn't quite work. Really wish they would have kept it because the vibe might feel warm and welcoming. The experience was okay. In fact, everything was a little flat. Nothing we had stood out and would make us come back right away. The fried chicken, hummus and turkey burger were filling but just didn't have any particular excitement in a dining experience. It's my birthday and my husband surprised me with a trip to Toronto, staying at the attached hotel. The trip in too a longer than we were expecting, and I was so hungry I said I didn't care where we ate, so he chose this restaurant. We came in and sat down, and a few minutes later a guy says not a word and puts down two menus. A few minutes later another man comes and fills up our water glasses, replacing one because I guess it was dirty. Neither person said a word. Finally a friendly young man comes and takes our order, and I asked if we could move to the newly vacated table because it was extremely dark. The wings didn't take long and were fresh and delightful, but no other plates were given to us though they knew we'd be sharing the wings. Our food came out shortly after and it was pretty, but had no flavor at all. My husband grabbed a random waiter to ask for ketchup snd hot sauce for the fries and a soda. Nobody ever came to check on us and see how everything was. I joked with my husband that I bet we'd get their attention real quick if we tried to walk out. Well, after 15 minutes of waiting for the bill after a different waiter took my almost untouched fish and husband's plate away and we were about to accidentally find out. I went to the bar with my husband's card because I was tired of waiting. I put the credit card on the bar after asking for the bill from someone behind the counter. I put the total with tip on the card and signed the slip, then went to leave. This was the ONLY TIME it seems that we got quick service. The original friendly waiter chased us as we were going to the door saying I needed to add our room number to it to be billed. I seriously thought I paid. We went back to the bar and completed what I thought was done since I put the card right in front of the person who gave me the bill. My husband jokingly said "well, you weren't kidding, we really did get their attention quickly!" As someone who has worked in customer service for over 25 years, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're there for a meal and not there to drink and get bar type finger food. They seem understaffed or just don't care that people actually want a bit more interaction than tossing a menu in my face and not saying anything. Get a self serve kiosk at the door or on the tables if you want to not have to talk to people, you already have the signs by the entrances to seat yourself... You know, except for the "reserved" area of tables that didn't have people there for over an hour enter the time on the cards on the table stated. The Fortunate Fox is a pretty good restaurant located on the property of the Kimpton St. George hotel. I have no experience of actually eating here so this review will only cover what it was like for me to order takeout from here while staying in the hotel. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: If you're staying in the hotel, don't even bother using the hotel phone to call this restaurant. No one ever picks up the phone that way! It's better to go down and place a take-out order in person if that is what you want to do. The two times I ate from here, I got the Fox Breakfast, which is composed of 2 eggs any style, crispy potatoes, bacon, sausage, roasted tomatoes and toast. Sounds delicious if you ask me - and it truly was. The potatoes in particular were so great. Crispy and flavourful. On both occasions, the food was also promptly made. No extra waiting, which is a nice thing. The breakfast came to about $26 which is a bit on the high side, but that is to be expected in a high-end area like Yorkville. All in all, a good restaurant that I would eat at again - but only once in a while because of the high prices! One star taken off because of the phone answering issues I had. read more

Perhaps because there was a wedding going on in the other room, but that shouldn't compromise the rest of the dinner services. The waiter didn't notify us that 2 of our orders were not available, so our friends waited until everyone else's food were served then was told their options were out. This might be one of the worst places I've been to in Toronto. To get right into in our waitress was swearing and inattentive to us the whole time / came to our table maybe 3 times in the 2 hours we were there. We ordered just drinks and 2 appetizers for the table and each thing took well over 30 minutes to come. I ordered an espresso martini and it came looking like dirty water. She then told me they're espresso machine was running out when they made it... and therefore couldn't make me a new one (disgusting). I then asked for a dirty vodka martini and I got brought a gin lemon twist one? The first drink came after 30 minutes of being there and the "fixed" one came after 30 minutes so after the first hour of being there I didn't even have a drink yet. To finish it off the food was all gross and felt like the grocery store 50% section. Went here for Thursday night trivia, after not having visited this place in yeeeears. The renovations are lovely! The place looks much more upscale than the old Fox I used to grab a couple pints at after school. The trivia night was fun, although we were seated at a table where we couldn't actually see the screens projecting the visual clues (kind of important ). Maybe they could project the clues on more than one TV in the future? The food was fine, very traditional pub fare, and the beer selection was average. The salt and pepper wings are prepared well and taste great. We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day for dinner as well. The poutine was good quality. You can't compare it to Montreal poutine but it is a nice change of pace. I loved the Out of Office cocktail (ginger beer, pineapple juice, etc). The strawberry rhubarb pie was very good, as is the apple strudel. Mac and cheese is good, and the salmon and potatoes were amazing. Fennel was a nice touch. The sauce on the potatoes was unexpected and unique. Music was a little loud and made for a little hard of hearing but overall service was good and lots of tvs for hockey or nascar. Overall ambience is good and I would come here whether it is a standalone restaurant or whether it is attached to hotel. The space is nicely decorated, with comfortable couch seats and some high bar tables also. There is usually a special every night. The scramble egg could've been fluffier but i do like the toast that came with it, it was pregrilled) . Food was good like every other brunch place. I came here for lunch and seated myself. A server came to my table within 5 minutes and provided a menu and glass of water. I ordered the salmon, asparagus and potato. Overall the food was okay. The salmon was juicy and the potatoes were well cooked . Unfortunately the asparagus was overcooked and they left the skin on my salmon (yuck!!). (Food: 7/10) My server was attentive and checked in frequently. She wasn't very talkative but was efficient. (Service: 8/10) Overall my experience was good. There's a very modest beer selection, but they have a local on-tap IPA and the very rare MGD, Guinness, and some other standards. The fish fry was fresh and enormous! It only lacked acid, as it wasn't served with lemon or malt vinegar. It's not common in an Irish pub style place, but a side of coleslaw or other vegetable would be a nice touch. The pulled chicken sandwich was very good, too. It could use some kind of spice, but I could asked for hot sauce. It was huge, in any case. Prices are super reasonable. Worst bar I've ever been too. They have a super loud DJ playing but no dance floor so you just have blasting music but has more of a lounge feel. Owner has clearly no idea how to run a bar. I ordered a whisky sour which was meh. Had a horriblely sweet bitter taste but that's fine the bartender was new. Since I spilled my drink I ordered a second and was told no because I was driving. I told them I was actually just biking across the street. And it should not be problem as I only ordered 1 drink which spilled. Just a terrible experience. We were there for maybe 2 or 3 hours because our waitress couldn't have given less of a crap about us. We intended to be there for maybe one hour. She didn't put our drink order in until well after our appetizers were done, and after our plates were cleared. No one checked in on us about our meal, and there were lots of things we needed or were missing. I ordered steak and wasn't given a steak knife until a good 10 minutes into the mealtime, and it was given in passing. Food was only just OK, certainly not the price we paid for it. All in all, you couldn't get me back here with a ten foot pole. I would maybe even consider coming back if it was just the food, as the decor was nice, but the customer service just completely turned me off. You're way better off going somewhere else and spending your money on a place that's going to care about you as a human being. read more

This place is really great. The hotel above it is also pretty awesome. The food though is really good. I expected it to be pretty good but it actually has surprised me. So far I have not had anything that I've been disappointed in. I mean anything on the plate at all. I ordered the chicken club sandwich for 11 dollars and wanted my fries to be poutine. It wasn't on the menu but the waitress said she can check with chef. Eventually I got it for an additional 5 bucks. My friend ordered fish and chips with a ceasar salad. The batter tastes amazingly crispy, while the fish, however, can use a bit more seasoning. I am always against seasoning the batter as it's harder to measure and the batter can fall off sometimes. Waiters and waitresses were all friendly and actively checking on us. The restaurant has a no outside drink policy, but they agreed to let us drink our beverage as long as it's in the glass they offered. Overall, the portion and price was great. The food is about decent. The service really stands out. The fact that this place gets a three star on yelp is bizarre to me. read more
