This place has been in my neighbourhood for a long time and I've never ventured in - today as a result of reconnecting with friends I have not seen in over 5 years I got to go there, while it's a "local" it's what I would think of a a sports bar - the hockey game was on, but honestly I was so into catching up with friends I didn't notice, the waiter was great as were the other staff we dealt with, when I got the chance I checked out all the mugshots on the wall - some of the most famous people are on the wall, including , #Presley, #Bowie, #Fonda& even the biggest crook in current day - can you guess- he's orange On the waiters recommendation I had the Lamb Chop, a big portion that was perfectly cooked and tasty with the root vegetables and a good portion of mashed potatoes, my friends had burgers and we all finished off our plates, full and no room for desert - I realized I should have taken photos of the food, but I missed the opportunity! Our booth was comfortable for the 2.5 hour stay but I was wanting to catch some images of the walls of mugshots- it was pretty interesting to see the array of subjects! Yesterday was my birthday so we decided to try this place on the recommendation of a friend. We really, really enjoyed it! Warm, comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff and patrons. Probably the best fries I've ever had and my salad was fresh and tasty. And they didn't charge for the appie because it was my birthday! It's busy so you might have to start off at the bar before you get moved to a table but it's all part of the friendly ambiance. We look forward to returning! read more

Although I don't live far from here, this is one of those hidden spots I had never had the pleasure of visiting. Until now! It has a super cute interior with a fun theme. Although the view out of the front window isn't the best, they apparently have a nice rooftop patio, which I am looking forward to checking out once the weather gets warmer. Seems like very tasty pub fare, decent selection of beers on tap, and some fun unique drinks too (I ordered the Berry White - half Fruli, half Side Launch Wheat - and I'm OBSESSED. Came here a while back looking for something filling and manly to eat and wow. Their breakfast poutine was delicious. That egg was semi runny and the fries were really thick. You could taste the potato starchness in every bite. The cheese curds were chewy and they were warm! I know this seems trivial but I have been to poutine places that have cold cheese curds... Like.. Why? The ambience is very casual but not overwhelming. The din of other customers sort of envelops you in your own little bubble with your table. I really liked the hipster feel of this restaurant. A friend and I came here for dinner on a Summer Saturday night. The place was full but we were seated shortly after arriving. Menus are on the table and fairly straightforward. Large beer/cider/wine complementing a selection of comfort food favourites. I was slightly disappointed that none of the cocktails stood out for me and I ended up ordering an iced tea. For the meal, I was torn between a couple of options; However, being the Mac and Cheese fan that I am I went with my gold standard. The lightly dressed salad was almost refreshing and I ended up eating most of it during the meal. The Mac and cheese itself wasn't great but wasn't horrible. It was a good size portion, nice presentation and taste was quite good. I will admit I found the dish with a little too much sauce but I'll admit I'm really picky! Service was varied. We were checked on frequently but things like the bill took a little while to come. Price point a little on the high side but worth it. The decor appears to fit the theme of the restaurant well. I've lived near this place for a few months and finally visited for dinner yesterday. Great upbeat, friendly staff and a nice warm atmosphere. I ordered the steak salade, med rare and was very pleased. The dressing was perhaps a little dull and could have used more balsamic though. We've driven by this place a million times and wanted to stop in. Fiiiinally did and had a really nice lunch. Our server was quite pleasant and accommodating. The place had a really cool "mugshot" theme and I enjoyed my walk to the bathroom checking out all the neat pics of famous criminals! I had planned on a burger and changed my mind at the very last minute to try the veggie eggs Benedict. Was very pleased with my choice. Veggies were perfect, hollandaise was very good, but a little thin for my liking. I'm pretty sure the potato wedges were just the seasoned frozen kind, but man were they ever good! Dropped in on a Sunday afternoon and while there were a few cozy booths available we were seated at a small 2 person table next to the kitchen... I get it but come on the place wasn't busy... Anyway had a couple of good beer options so that was ok and since brunch menu was in effect I went for the bacon cheddar burger with potato wedges... Damn! That was a delicious burger with the perfectly cooked bacon adding incredible flavour! Try the house made hot sauce (we actually bought a bottle) and you certainly won't be disappointed! Hands down this is one bar that does food and sports right--it isn't just a bar with good beers and a great staff--food, sports, drinks are all done up right! It is pretty much a 'hipster' sports bar . The downside is the lack of heat during cold winter days... Boy oh boy it was cold and caused the food to cool down too quick (this is the reason for the 4/5 stars). The poutine here is one of the best in Toronto where cheese curds--real curds are used and it is melted under the gravy and fries--deelicious! There are variations such as the standard poutine, prime rib, and pulled pork! The size is fairly large and great to share. The deep fried pickle spears here are --overall myself and three friend came in for a snack/early dinner and left pretty happy with our 'snacks'... The low down is that this place has great beer selection but service is hit or miss. We came in last night and was greeted by a very friendly female bartender, however our male server had some attitude that made me question why he went into the service industry if he didn't care about his customers! You are being paid and tipped for being nice! Located near Keele station, it's a good location. We had read that the food was amazing, but when we tried the yam fries, they were barely cooked. Yuck! The venue was fairly spacious and could hold maybe 40-50 people. It's basically a bar with decent food, nothing special except for their "mugshot" theme. Finally made it into the Mugshot. Quite an improvement over the former Mackenzies (this should read "pseudo-Mackenzies" as the real owners of the Mackenzies brand moved west and opened a great bar next to the High Park subway station,, selling the original location to someone not quite up to their standards and who used their name in an unlicensed manner). The Mugshot staff was attentive and turned out to be the owners. They remodelled the place with great mugshots of famous people like Bill Gates (arrested in 1975), Jimi Hendrix (arrested in Toronto in May 1969), and would you believe, Larry King (arrested in December 1971). There is one main widescreen 42" HDTV with an HD source behind the main bar, and a secondary screen with music videos from the pay-for-music juke-box on the back wall. One of the bar owners/bartenders, Scott, is in a band, and plays eclectic mixes when people are not using the jukebox. They also have FREE WiFi. The remodelling included getting rid of the high-table and stools that were the main tables near the bar. Instead, they created intimate booths that are more appropriate, and likely seat more people, more comfortably. Scott also mentioned that they spent almost four-months fixing and cleaning up the place, and I can believe it. I think they did a great job. Good atmosphere, great roof-top patio -- when the temperature isn't 37 degrees Celsius like it was when I visited. The Bar specializes in independent micro-brew beers, so don't ask for a Labatts or Molsons product. Local brews like Steam Whistle and Mill Street dominate the selection. I personally prefer micro-brewed beer as it tastes more like the specific styles of beer that they claim to be: like a pilsner or stout for instance. Arrived too late to try out the kitchen, but they do have weekend brunch starting at 11 in the morning on Saturday and Sunday. Looks to be a promising addition to the Bloor by the Park BIA, and I'll certainly be back for more. read more

Mugshot is a nice and homey pub. There is a moderate amount of space to sit and the vibe is good. I went with my daughters and we tried the burger and wings. The burgers were good, with two thin patties rather than one thick & overcooked one. Frankly, with the Canadian regulation to ruin hamburger patties there is no point in having a thick one in a restaurant. Stack thin ones so you at least get double the charred surface. I had the Mugshot wings with the cornmeal breading and they were good. The covering was a bit soggier than I would have liked. Flavor was good, but I prefer a wing that tends more to savory/hot and these were more on a sweet BBQ angle. Beer selection was good with regular and guest taps. read more

The High Park neighbourhood is near-void of good places to grab a pint. Well, it was until The Mugshot Tavern opened anyways... The Mugshot easily provides the perfect answer to filling that void, and then some. Truly nice owners, delicious food, and a killer environment, this place takes the neighbourhood bar way beyond what it's expected to be. If the Mugshot doesn't have the best draft selection in a 10 km radius, it certainly has the most well-thought-out one. These guys obviously love beer, and more obviously is that they've put a ton of thought into what is being pulled from the taps. It's all craft beer, and some interesting stuff at that. Chances are they have a few you've never even heard of, like the King Pilsner and Warthog Ale. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that they're probably one of only a handful of places in the city with either on tap. Don't expect to find Canadian or Blue here; what they offer is much more creative than any of that stuff. The food, and the entire menu for that matter, is equally well-thought out. It's a killer mix of Southern-soul and comfort food, and they do a dam fine job of pulling it off. You can expect to find Southern favorites, like fried chicken with fritters, and some not so expected ones, like in-house-made corn dogs with chutney. The presentation is pretty decent too and again, goes beyond the typical bar stuff. It's pretty obvious that the people manning the kitchen know what the hell they're doing back there. Rarely do I go to a restaurant and have difficulty deciding what to order; at The Mugshot I was torn between a few items. They've done a dam good job of ridding the place of all remnants of the defunct McKenzies that used to take up the place. They've clearly spent a lot of time, thought, and energy turning it into something completely new. The environment, painted in bright red and tactfully covered in old-school, famous mugshot photos, is easily the kind of space you could hang out for a long, long time. It's comfortable and welcoming, the way a neighbourhood local should be. Despite not being an overly large place, it still accommodates nicely, and any excess people can spill onto their cozy rooftop patio. And the staff at Mugshot? They couldn't be any friendlier. Having only been open about a week or so, you'd never know it by their attitudes. Likely working long hours, round-the-clock, getting the place ready and established, they're still sociable, out-going, and friendly. I sure-as-hell didn't feel like a stranger in this joint, and I don't think anyone with even the teeniest bit of personality would either. Even coming in by yourself is sure to get you some conversation. It's clear that, after just opening, they're still trying to establish their crowd. It's still sorta random as to the people that might be in there. While one day the bar could be full of seniors, that evening it could be packed with a younger crowd. It seems to be dependent on the time of day, but it's also, unfortunately, the way the neighbourhood seems to work. Customers are sorta like family; you can't really pick 'em. The Mugshot isn't just the kind of place you sit, drink, and hide from the world, although it provides that pretty well; it's also the kind of place that you can unexpectedly get some truly imaginative and delicious food in a comfortable and welcoming space. The Mugshot is my favorite spot in Toronto. Here's why: -The staff rules! They are super friendly, attentive without being smothery, quick with a pint, and go above and beyond to make everyone (including American tourists) feel at home. -The food rules! Their barbeque pork sandwich is phenomenal (I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, so I know a thing or two about BBQ) and I have actually considered booking a Porter flight from CHI to TO just to have their macaroni and cheese fritters. And the few times when I have felt the need to order a healthier meal, I have really enjoyed their salads and curry specials. -The drinks rule! When I travel, one of my favorite things to do is sample the local beer offerings. And The Mugshot has local brews in droves! Bonus: They always seem to have some kind of cool, obscure cask option. Double-bonus: If you're on the fence about a particular beer, the bartenders are great about offering up a sample taste. Triple-bonus: Order "The General"....just do it. -The people rule! When I came to The Mugshot for the first time, I was a total stranger. When I left, I felt like it was my hometown pub and that the staff and the regulars were my TO family. I know the Cheers reference is totally overused, but it totally applies here, down to the sassy but sweet cocktail waitress and the bartender with the impressive head of hair! -The location rules! Right off the Keele train station, just at the end of High Park, within stumbling distance from 7-Eleven (in case you get a desperate late-night craving for Canadian delicacies like WineGum candies and All-Dressed chips). If you're too impatient (or cold) for the train, it's super easy to hail a cab on Bloor. I love The Mugshot and I'll never make a trip to Toronto without stopping there for a pint and a meal. Very disappointed with Mugshot Tavern. It is not a provincial requirement to have to show your vaccine. They wouldn't accept my vaccine cert because I didn't have the QR code. Also, 2 lovely older ladies were in the same boat as me and they wouldn't accept theirs either. I dont care about me but not everyone has a Smartphone, some have flip phones and if you have the vaccine cert from the Ministry Of Health that should be enough, Mugshot is not above anybody. Smarten up Mugshot and stop thinking ye are on a power trip and open your eyes to accepting people in that have a vaccine cert even if they don't have a QR code. read more

This place was a rare mix of a lively, comfortable bar with interesting beer and cider options as well as a place to enjoy fresh, delicious food. From what I heard, a lot of the food is locally sourced and as fresh as can be. for ex: I am not a fish and chips person, but I tried a bite of a friends who had ordered it, and wow, it was delicious. Flaky, moist... all the stuff you want in a good fish and chips. Homemade ketchup and tartar are a nice touch as well. Ordered the nachos to start, they were great! Maybe some of the best nachos in the city.. authentic tortilla chips, lots of cheese and thick cut veggies on top... no skimming here - homemade guac, sour and homemade salsa on the side for dipping. I ordered the fried chicken dinner that came with a side of deep fried mac n cheese and creamy broccoli coleslaw(soo good!) along with chicken gravy. I have to say I am a regular at Reggies Old Fashioned Sandwiches on King Street and their deep fried mac n cheese is pretty bomb, but the Mugshots was better! Never thought I would say that.. but it was creamier and less salty. Loved it. The chicken was great as well, thick breast of meat, very moist, so yum dipped in the gravy. Like the other reviewer said, it took me awhile to decide on what to order, because the menu had so many interesting items that I crave on a regular basis. The cider I was drinking was called Thornburry I think, you can ask the server and I'm sure that will be the one.. it was great. Not too dry or sweet. The only thing I would recommend is bring mosquito repellent for the deck upstairs.. though the cool treehouse feel is great for relaxing and hanging, you might get eaten alive by those little buggers. Also, don't go in expecting the food to come out in 10 minutes... relax and let those cooks do what they do best. The patio is small, but it does the trick, with about 25 seats for those who like to sit outside. There's no view at all, but there's really no better patio on this strip. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, and the music is always pretty good, too. I like this watering hole in my 'hood. Checked it out on a weeknight around 8-ish. Most tables were full but we got an empty booth for four at the back. I went for the Fish & Chips ($15) which was a huge piece of fish and a heap of fries. We also ordered the daily rib and wing special ($17), a vegetarian pot pie ($12) and the pulled pork sandwich ($12). Great beers on tap...we went with a pitcher of the guest tap - Granite Brewery's Peculiar ($16). Service was friendly and attentive. We liked the laid back casual atmosphere, reminded me a bit of Ronccy's Intersteer. Entrees were all good, a bit pricey for pub food but not outrageous. Background music sounded eerily like someone swiped my iPod and put it on shuffle, always a bonus in my mind. Definitely on my list of neighbourhood haunts. read more

Checked this place out last week after work. It was hot, we didn't feel like cooking dinner so we went to The Mugshot as my bf has heard good things about it. It wasn't busy when we went it, a few peeps at the bar, but all the booths at the back were full. We settled at one of the tables near the front, then scored the window table after this couple had left. Drinks: We ordered two ceasers. They came literally within 4 mins. They were tasty and had horseradish and a nice kick to them. After moving to the window table, we ordered a pitcher of cider... it's $20 for the pitcher which I thought was decent. Food: I was torn between the nachos and the burger. Since I didn't want anything super heavy, I opted for the nachos which the server said were really good. My bf ordered the fried chicken with the side of mac and cheese. Food came at a decent speed. I ordered the guac on the side for $2 extra. I would not do that again. There was nothing special about it and it was kind of brown. The nachos are home made, which was nice. They also do the layer thing with the cheese and toppings which is essential when getting nachos.. but I didn't feel like the first layer was baked long enough b/c the cheese wasn't completely melted. But I didn't really mind, I love nachos and cheese so I'll pretty much eat anything with that combo. NOTE: the jalapenos ARE HOT. They are fresh and weren't soft or brined out of a jar. Great - but hot. Thick slices too. The fried chicken - 3 big pieces including a huge breast.. it also came with a side of mac and cheese which was steaming hot and a little cup of broccoli slaw which was dilly and delicious. More of that please! The chicken was cooked perfectly, not greasy and had a rosemary gravy with it. Not personally the flavour of gravy that I would have chose to go with fried chicken, but I have never ordered it before from a resto. I thought maybe a peppercorn gravy would have been good. The chicken was nice but didn't necessarily have any flavour that jumped out at you. Know what I mean? The mac and cheese was awesome and garlicy. A must order if you love mac and cheese. Met up with Mr Kent P and Michelle to check out this new spot and grab a quick bite to eat before a film. Seeing that I was already late for dinner, I ordered hastily something I thought would be quick (gourmet mac and cheese) and would arrive at the same time as the others. It took more than 45 minutes for my party's food to arrive, and then nearly another 15 minutes for mine to arrive - Wait staff guaranteed it was coming in less than 3 minutes. Unfortunately, their slow pace made me so late for the movie, "Bridesmaids," I opted not to go. Of the movies I wanted to see this year in theatres, Bridesmaids was probably #1. Either way, it was a really long wait for a restaurant that had about 10 patrons. The gourmet mac and cheese was absolutely delicious but so rich I could only eat a quarter of it. It would have been better suited as a side to some chicken or something. Also, their tardiness might have been excusable if they prepared the noodles from scratch, boiled them, and then added the cheese, but I think they just warmed up a cold plate of mac and cheese (to be expected). Have been here twice with my boyfriend and we have loved it both times. Cozy, classier than a sports bar atmosphere. They always show the Leafs game( with sound) and have an awesome selection of craft beer on draft. They have two guest taps and a cask which is a bonus. To boot, their menu is reasonably priced, fresh and delicious. Recently vegan, I was very impressed to discover 3 vegan options on the menu. While the Mugshot's gimmick is cute, but their food and drink offerings are stellar. The fried chicken, their Sunday dinner, and the catfish are all absolutely delicious -- easily a step above most similar restaurants on Roncie, which would be the closest independent competition. Indeed, Id say the Mugshot is the signature tavern between Keele and Dundas West stations. They also have a great summer patio. Just the right amount of sunshine and the service up there is pretty fast. I do recommend calling ahead to ask how busy they are. Mugshot fills up fast on weekday evenings! read more
