What a quaint relaxing place. While it's an indie coffee shop, it's not completely grungy like some hipster coffee shops. It reminds me of an upper middle class living room with its comfy couches, antique records and how well everything is organized. As for the food and drinks, well they had a great selection of pastries such as scones, butter tarts, muffins, cookies and empanadas. They also had your normal coffee selection with espresso based drinks, fancy tea and normal coffee. I had the empanada with spicy chipotle dipping and an iced coffee. The empanada was nice and crispy, fair amount of filling, sweet on the outside and salty on the inside. It also went really well with an iced coffee that was not too strong, but also not too watery. Verdict: this is a great place to chill and study. Also - they take debit and credit! Sweet for an indie coffee shop.

I fucking love Cabin Fever! But to be fair, what isn't there to love about quality vinyl, pinball machines, and tall boy beers for seven bucks, all packed into a little hole-in-the-wall spot?? Cabin Fever has the quirky attribute that many bars need these days. Their beer selection offered a few taps, and over a dozen tall boy beers that are all originated no more than 50km away. You can take your beer in glass, or in can if you prefer (which I recommend, as the pinball machines have cup holders). Vinyl records hang the wall with some string lights around. Usually, I'm against the seemingly lackluster hanging of string lights, but it really plays into the enjoyable ambience produced. All-in-all, Cabin Fever is the type of place that every town needs to be "that rad place".

It's never empty midweek at cabin fever!

This gem is our mid week go-to! Cozy, with delicious beverages and really great drink specials! The owners are fantastic, and always friendly. Loving the fact that we can add to the vinyl collection while having a pint! Sammies available also; each one pinball "themed" by name. :)

Row of pinball machines: Twilight Zone, Attack from Mars, Metallica, Star Wars.

If you hear of any event at See-Scape do not hesitate to go! There's free parking on-site around the back (don't quote me on that) so TTC take the car, or whatever but get yourself down there and put in those ear plugs (available at the bar) and enjoy the show. The main floor has some funky video games in one part and a cool bar to drink at where you just can't be bored looking at the swag all around you and chatting with some cool characters that you won't find in the Financial District, that's for sure. Friendly bar staff will help you whet your whistle so no problem there and the beer isn't overpriced either. Upstairs is where the action is with a neat industrial looking stage that has the overhead grid system made of metal that give it a legit rock venue look, even though it's very small. The bar upstairs has canned beers only so no problem getting one of those and hanging out, with mostly standing room only with a couple tables for the boomers, this is one of the parts of Toronto that makes you feel like you're somewhere else, like Hamilton for example : )

Fascinating place and very close. Nice people, and a cool beer selection. Highly recommended.read more

Low Bar - Saturday night vibes at Low Bar

Dropped in for a quick afternoon beer last week and had a good feeling about this place right away…read more It's got a friendly + cozy vibe + small but diverse selection of beer on tap. I think they call places like this "dive bars" in Toronto but they are known simply as "bars" in other parts of the world. They also have a fun newsletter called The Low Bar Bugle which was good reading. It seems to be only issue #1 but I look forward to more. Then we dropped in for a beer early on a Saturday night and the place was hopping. Seems like it is also a music venue. Which we clued in to as we watched the punk rock-n-roll crowd coming and going and listened to the sound blasting from upstairs (accessed via the red door next to the front door). Despite the busy night Low Bar maintained it's charm. Nice to have a great go to bar in the hood. (Low Bar is in the space formerly known as Gaslight.)

We tried the happy hour special Low Beer draft (big glass, $7), which was apparently something by Great Lakes. It was a quiet time of day with some regulars chatting around the bar and good tunes playing. Came back a second time on a Saturday night when there was a gig upstairs. Place was bustling with people getting a drink in before heading upstairs, then got briefly super busy during a break in the show. Cheerful crowd of punks, rockers and beer drinkers. Happy to see the scrumptious Bellwoods Roman Candle on tap (small pint, $8). Friendly place with groovy old chairs, low light, vintage lamps, random decor and even its own newsletter! There looks to be a patio out back, too. I'll be back!

I recently dropped by for first time during lunch hour, and similar to all restaurants in the area, it's wasn't busy during this time so there were plenty of seating and reservations were not required. However, evenings and weekends can be quite busy, but reservations can be made via OpenTable. I ordered the Burger of The mouth with a side of salad, while my friend ordered the Indie Fried Chicken Platter. I personally found the burger and salad to be quite delicious. The beef patty was juicy, with all sauces and ingredients complimenting each other nicely. My friend on the other hand, found the chicken a little dry, and the coleslaw warm, and soggy. The restaurant had a cozy laid back feel at this time, contrary to the loud and lively evenings. The hostess/server was attentive, friendly, and efficient. She let us sit anywhere we wanted when we arrived given the quieter afternoons, and she knew the menu well.

I love coming here, this brewpub is a consistent favorite of ours!…read more In a nutshell they have excellent beer, food and service and you can never go wrong when you come to this place. They have a wide range of in-house beers, sours and even hard to find Ales. The ambiance is welcoming and accomodating to all ages (even kids). If you're a first time customer and undecided on which beer to choose, I encouraged you to try their Beer Flights which includes 5 oz. sample of 5 beers on tap. I love IPA's and Pilsner so I like ordering the Instigator & Marco Polo. Instigator, a West Coast IPA has a light honeyed sweetness with plenty of hoppy goodness. Quite malty but has well balanced and smooth tasting notes. The Marco Polo on the otherhand is a flavourful dry-hopped lager but super crisp and refreshing which is perfect for hot summer days. My SO who is into strong and dark ales swears how good their Zombie Apocalyse and Breakfast Porter. But the huge draw of me coming here is mainly how impressed I am of their food menu. They offer fresh and high quality dishes that doesn't taste like your clasic pub meals. I always order their Southern Fried Chicken since this is the best Southern Fried Chicken I've ever tried. The fried chicken is intensely flavourful and incredibly crunchy and pairs well with any of their beers. The Indie Burger is another one of my fave. This is your ultimate cheeseburger - two smashed beef patties that is juicy in every bite. Staff are also knowledgeable, friendly and will answer any questions you have about their beer offerings. Top notch chef, nice atmosphere and a wide range of pints to sample makes Indie Alehouse one of the city's top must visit locations for beer drinkers and foodies alike.

The absolute ultimate spot for a nostalgic night out…read more If you're tired of the typical bar scene in Toronto and want a place where you can actually do something while you drink, Tilt is the answer. I've been here a bunch of times with friends & it never fails to deliver a massive hit of childhood nostalgia mixed with great local beers. The concept here is elite: you pay a flat cover charge at the door (I think it's around $10 now) & every single arcade cabinet, pinball machine & retro console inside is completely free to play. No dragging around cups of dirty tokens or dealing with cards that run out of credits. You just walk up to a machine and press start. They have an incredible selection of games. You've got all the classic 90s arcade staples like NBA Jam, X-Men, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a killer lineup of old-school pinball machines, and even a section in the back with couches where you can play Mario Kart or Smash Bros on N64 and GameCube. The machines are genuinely well-maintained too, which is rare for an arcade bar. The drinks menu is heavily focused on Ontario craft breweries, which I love. They always have a great rotation of IPAs and stouts on tap. Food-wise, it's exactly the kind of greasy, satisfying comfort food you want while gaming - solid burgers, massive plates of poutine & great corn dogs. Just like Snake & Lattes, this place gets incredibly packed on Friday and Saturday nights. The lines can get long and it gets loud and sweaty inside quickly. If you want to actually get a turn on the popular pinball machines or the N64 couches without hovering behind someone for twenty minutes, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. It's way more laid back, you can easily grab a booth & you can play arcade games until your hands cramp up. A mandatory visit if you're hanging out in the West End!
